Re-preinstall

I have recently purchased a remanufactured Ultra 10 with preloaded software. During bootup I recevie the following prompt: "re-preinstall needs to be re-run". How is this accomplished?

Hi
What is the full error message that you are getting, it should be
something like this:
NOTICE: can't find driver for console frame buffer
fsck of /tmp/devices/pci@1f,4000/scsi@3/sd@0,0:
failed, re-preinstall needs to be rerun
Normally if this happens you would have to re-install a new O.S.
version.

  • The guide to bootcamp assistant states that bootcamp can only be installed on a drive with a single partition. New Macs with Lion preinstalled have two partitions - the second is a recovery partition.  How do I install Bootcamp?

Late in August 2011 I took delivery of a new 27" iMac with Lion preinstalled.  I need to run Windows as well. Following Apple's written suggestion, I printed off the then current 12 pages of the document "Bootcamp Installation & Setup Guide" which clearly stated that the hard drive you were going to install on had to have on it, before install, a maximum of one partition.  Using finder and disk utility I determined that there was only one partition.  Unbeknownst to me, there was (is) an additional hidden (from those two pieces of software) partition on the disk.  As of machines delivered new with Lion preinstalled, Apple has begun to include a "recovery partition".  In that partition there is a copy of the software necessary to reinstall Lion via a download from the Apple App Store.  Not knowing the partition was there, I cranked up  "Bootcamp Assistant" which nicely offered to repartition my hard drive creating a "Bootcamp Partition" in addition to the existing.  I told it how big to make each and hit the do it button, subsequently destroying my operating system.  Oh, it very nicely told me, after the damage was done, how many partitions were REALLY on the disk and that I could not install Bootcamp cause there were too many partitions.
Luckily the the Recovery Partition, which at that point I knew existed, was not harmed and after doing some research on another compter, I used it to once again download Lion from the App Store and reinstall. So, I have recovered but am still stuck with the problem:  how do I install Bootcamp in this new environment?

First you need to seriously back up your Mac.
A clone is an exact duplicate of your existing Mac HDD. Merely copying and pasting a drive will not make a bootable backup. In case of problems you can boot from an Ext HDD clone and use the utilities to repair, reformat, or clone the Ext HDD back to the internal Mac HDD.  While Time machine back ups are easy you can not boot from it. The best thing to have for any kind of problem is a bootable clone backup on an external drive. Some even have two external backup drives in case one fails. There are two good apps for cloning named SuperDuper and Carbon Copy Cloner.
In dealing with the recovery partition a simple approach is to clone the Mac partition to an external disk then re-partition the Mac to a single partition (GUID partition table) . Then clone the external disk clone back to the Mac. You will now have only one Partition and Boot Camp assistant sould not object.
Some have recommended getting rid of the recovery partition while others have advised not to do this. If you have the Lion USB Thumb Drive you do not need a recovery partition so can discard it without concern. There is another way to get rid of the recovery partition if you decide to do it but first be sure to have a backup of your Mac ( I know I sound like a nagging mom but many dead computers have been saved by this simple precaution).
    Use Disk Utility.
    1) Make the Recovery visible in Disk Utility by using a program like Secrets:http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/27025/secrets or MacPilot:http://www.koingosw.com/products/macpilot.php (15 day free trial).
    2) Highlite the Recovery partition and Control click it and select Mount the partition.
    3) With the Recovery partition highlited, erase the partition, you'll get an error message, ignore it.
    4) Now highlite the top identity of the hard drive and select the partition tab.
    5) Highlite the Recovery partition and press the minus sign.
    6) Click and hold on the bottom edge of the partition above and drag it to the bottom, if it doesn't go there automatically, the press apply.

  • Dual Boot Windows 7 with preinstalled Windows 8 on GPT-formatted hard disk and UEFI BIOS.

    Question for Jordon Wees,
    Hi,
You wrote: I can successfully install both operating

    the second partition. <o:p></o:p>
    But I couldn´t!<o:p></o:p>
Could you please provide me how to install Windows 7
64 bit on a PC that already has Windows 8 64 bit preinstalled?<o:p></o:p>
I have also a GPT-formatted hard disk with UEFI BIOS
but I get the error message that windows can´t install Windows 7 on the disk
    because it is a GPT-formatted hard disk.<o:p></o:p>
    I don´t understand this because it is a GPT-formatted
hard disk with Windows 8 on it!<o:p></o:p>
I can´t change the hard disk to MBR format because I
will lose Widows 8 and all other partitions.<o:p></o:p>
In the BIOS for the storage dives Boot´ option I
selected the: only UEFI, I could also select the option ´first UEFI´ but it doesn´t
change the failure of installing Windows 7.<o:p></o:p>
    Thanks, Sia

If I am reading your issue correctly. Windows 8 came pre-installed on a computer with a hard disk setup as a GPT with UEFI configured.
If this is the case then the outcome you are experiencing is correct.
Windows 7 does not inherently have the ability to install into a GPT disk from the base installation.
The Windows 7 DVD is designed to install using BIOS mode.
Also note that Windows 7 x86 does not support UEFI mode.

They are updated through the Software Update facility, not the Mac App Store.
    Thanks for popping in....
My iLife apps are all from retail install disks predating Lion/ML; I am running 10.8.4 and as soon as I choose Software Update from the menu, the app store 'Updates" window opens with "checking for updates". I believe that behavior (SU being directed to MAS) was changed with ML?

  • Is it possible to switch from the preinstalled iTunesU to the original iTunes on an iPad. If it is can someone explain how to do it?

Is it possible to switch from the preinstalled iTunesU on my iPad to the original iTunes. If it is can someone tell me how, and is this something that commonly happens?

I'm not sure what you are asking.  There is no "preinstalled iTunesU" on an iPad.  The iTunes app is a portal to the iTunes Store. Use the icons at the bottom of the page to switch to different sections of the store.  Use the Music app or the Videos app to access iTunes media you have synced to the iPad.

  • LaserJet M1132 installation on Windows 7 hangs on "Preinstalling drivers..."

I cannot install a Laserjet M1132 on my 64-bit Lenovo X240 running Windows 7. I am trying to use the USB installer, which appears as a CD drive on my computer. Because I have turned AutoPlay off, I run the executable installer. The installation proceeds normally until it reaches "Preinstalling drivers," where it hangs forever. I can only stop the installer by killing the process with Task Manager.
I tried several times, including rebooting the printer and my laptop and using different USB ports. I also tried running the installer in compatibility model.
The only unusual configuration of my laptop is that I have a whitelist for outbound connections on my firewall, but I thought this was an offline installer. I have been able to successfully install and use this printer on other computers running Windows 7 and Windows 8.
EDIT: I am on a metered connection, so I have a strong preference for approaches that don't require large downloads.

    Hi @katinthehat ,
I see that you are unable to install the printer on one of the computers. I can help you.
When did the install hang? (before or after connecting the USB cable, was the printer recognized when connected)
    Disconnect the USB cable.
Run the uninstall from the CD.
I would disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software to see if there is a program interfering in the back ground. How to use MSCONFIG . Click on the start up tab and click disable all.
Download and install the latest drivers, if you still have bandwidth left. If not run the CD again. (check it to make sure there are Windows 7 drivers on it) HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver.
Then you will have to go back and enable the startup programs and turn the Antivirus Software back on again.
Please provide the results if you are still having issues.

  • 1 week purchased Mac mini slow to boot with preinstalled mavericks.

I've just purchased a mac mini 2.5Ghz with Mavericks preinstalled. I've added 8GB ram so it has 10gb. Apart from that everything else is standard. I've moved from a iMac with Lion and it was much faster to boot up. The mac mini takes about 1.5 - 2 minutes to get to the login screen. I'm thinking an SSD will help but I don't want to pay for one just yet.
When i'm logged in, everything runs fine. I've only had one strange issue. I've had this mac mini for a week and I've looked through suggestions boards, I will try the sudo commands that have been referenced in  the communities. But I am feeling like mavericks is the Windows equivalent of Vista. I understand that there hasn't been updates to the Mac mini hardware wise for sometime, but in the past with other upgrades I've done (but with other models) there haven't been any issues like these ones with boot times.
I am interested to see if other mac mini users also have these issues - it seems more to be a mavericks issue. I am just a bit flabbergasted that I never even though this could be a problem.

Thanks, I think I really need to get an SSD - been reading alot in the last 30 minutes about the improvement. For now I will put up with it because I don't want to spend the money just yet. I'm pretty darn pleased with my mac mini i'll be gutted if they remove these from the line up!!!

When checking components of ECC system I did not found 'WEBCUIF' component whereas in xml file (generated by SOLMAN) it exists. Which direction I should take. I am afraid to delete entries in xml file.
You need to download and install all requirements as selected by Solution Manager for EHP4, WEBCUIF is a required component. Do not delete any entries in the xml file.

  • Is there an issue with modifying a prototype file with a preinstall script?

    Solaris Packaging content
I have a prototype file in which I need to move a specific directory to somewhere else other than the BASEDIR.
I am attempting to do this with a preinstall script by running my prototype file through sed and creating a new prototype file where specific entries that match the various regexp entries in the sed command now have a alternate path assigned to it.
    For example:
    Original prototype file entry:
    d none <directory 1>/lib 0755 root other
    Output prototype from preinstall execution:
    d none <directory 1>/lib=<directory 2>/lib 0755 root other
However, even though I can go into /var/sadm/pkg/<PKG NAME>/install and execute the preinstall by hand properly, I get the following:
pkgadd: ERROR: preinstall script did not complete successfully
Any ideas here? Manually editing the prototype file before pkgmk and pkgtrans is not possible with how my package is being created due to an automated process, however I would really like to leverage the functionality of the prototype file for pkgrm's instead of moving them in a postinstall script and then removing each in a postremove script.

I don't see any issue in downloading the static copy.  Even if you were allowed to connect to the wsdl directly or add it as a service reference in Visual Studio then you would have to manually update that reference.  In closing, you aren't losing
any functionality by downloading the static copy.

  • HP pavilion dv6 Recovery Partition include preinstalled programs?

Product Name : HP Pavilion dv6-6009tx Entertainment Notebook PC
Operating System installed : Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
hi, I bought my dv6 laptop from my polytechnic (Singapore), and it came with microsoft office 2010 pre-installed.. Because after a year of usage, the laptop has became a bit slow, so i was thinking of doing a system recovery with the recovery partition included in the laptop. I wish to ask if the preinstalled softwares (microsoft office 2010, visual studio 2010, visual studio 2008, etc) are included in the system recovery image?

is there no way to contact hp support in singapore? because the helpdesk seems to be situated in India, and they have no idea what softwares are installed for laptops that are bought through schools.. and I can't seem to find a correct number which is local. i chose the country as Singapore, but the number I call is forwarded to India helpdesk...
    EDIT:
in the "swsetup" folder, there are alot of programs, the drivers, etc that are preinstalled by HP, but there is no Microsoft Office 2010 and other softwares that is provided by the school included..

  • Thinkpad W530 : How to install Windows 8 Professional over preinstalled Windows 8???

Hi, please help me, I'm spending way too much time on an issue that should take me 1 hour max...
When I try to clean install Windows 8 Professional from a dvd or a a usb key, my laptop silently retrieves the preinstalled Windows 8 key product instead of asking me the product key. I can't find a way to enter my 'Professional' product key, I always end up with a basic Windows 8 installation.
Please don't refer me to this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/Installing-Full-Retail-Win-8-Pro-on-a-Lenovo-System-supplied/t...
In my case the installation doesn't fail, it just silently retrieves the basic Windows 8 product key from the bios or whatever.
I also tried to upgrade from within Windows 8 by starting my Windows 8 Professional dvd during a session, but once again, it never asked me for any product key and nothing changed, I still ended up with the basic Windows 8 at the end of the process.
Or is there a way to flash the preinstalled OS license?
    Thanks,
    Frank
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Oook, got it. Here is my method (largely inspired by other threads..):
    1. Prepare a bootable Windows 8 Professional installation USB key: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2227-create-bootable-usb-dvd-windows-8-iso.html
The link for the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool is: http://images2.store.microsoft.com/prod/clustera/framework/w7udt/1.0/en-us/Windows7-USB-DVD-tool.exe
    2. You have to create two files and manually add them in the folder named « sources » on the USB key. Create both files with notepad.
First file is « El.cfg », you have to modify the « .txt » extension of the notepad file to « .cfg ». It contains the following text:
    [EditionID]
    Professional
    [Channel]
    OEM
    [VL]
    1
Second file is PID.txt, it contains the following text where xxxxx-.... is your product key:
    [PID]
    Value=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
    (Step 2 is inspired by http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2796988 and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824952.aspx and http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8/Upgrade-Windows-8-Retail-to-Windows-8-Pro-VL/td-p/1086823 )
    3. Boot from the USB key!

  • Re: Satellite S50T-B - cannot activate preinstalled Win 8.1

My friend Sherry bought a Satellite S50T-B pspq8a-00h008 laptop at Chrismas in Canberra and brought it back to China.
Now, she found the system cannot be activated via neither online nor by phone. when tried to activate online, she received a error message "0x800707b, The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." I helped her try several solutions but all failed with the same error code.
Here are all solutions we have tried:
    1. roll back any changes for optimization purpose.
    2. retype the product key by the following commands we found online:
    slmgr /upk
    slmgr.vbs -ipk xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
    slmgr.vbs /ato
    3. try to activate by phone, use the command "slui.exe 4", it appears "the system cannot be activated by phone"
    4. restore the system. we are shocked by that the activation still doesn`t work.
by now, we don`t know what we can do to activate windows 8.1.
does anyone here could help us ?

If your notebook is still preinstalled with original recovery image that you got with your notebook create bootable recovery media (DVD or USB stick) please using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool. How to do this is described in users manuals document.
After doing this use this media and reinstall Windows. Start your notebook, connect it to the internet using LAN cable or WLAN connection and I hope everything will be OK.

how do i uninstall iphoto? it was preinstalled on my macbook pro when I bought it used and I can only update with the previous owners password.

Do you have the current MacOS X version 10.10.2?
Then you can simply move iPhoto from the Applications folder to the Trash,
sign into the App Store with your own AppleID
reload the "Featured" main page of the AppStore with ⌘R,
then download iPhoto with your own AppleID.
Make a backup of your iPhoto Library, before your launch the new iPhoto the first time,
If your current system is not Yosemite, you can only buy a boxed iLife 11 version of iPhoto to install it independent of the previous owner.

My problem is with Outook 2013. It is stuck in "Loading Profile".  Solutions from the Net did not help.  Uninstall and Reinstall Office 2013 did not work either.  I badly need to make Outlook 2013 work in this laptop.
My last resort is to to Uninstall and Reinstall Windows. How do I get a copy?
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Many thanks for the reply Erico.
I tried Recovery Manager but it says "Recovery Manager is already running".  And when the window was able to pop up, the Recovery Media Creation option is greyed out or disabled.  Is this because my laptop has a Recovery Partition (D?
The Recovery Drive says "3.24GB free of 23,8GB".  But the folder is empty.  Is it because I tried to delete it before to free up some space?   I just couldn't remember if it was successful.
My HP Pavilion does not have a CD drive.  I use a USB flash drive to install Office 2013.  I am used to using Office 2013 and Windows 8.1 already.  I want to retain the same settings.
Been searching the Net for this Outlook 2013  "stuck at Loading Profile" problem.    I've only been using Office 2013 for 2 months.
I don't remember installing an Indexer program.  How do I find it in my laptop?
    MY antivirus is Avast.

    Hi Touctzba,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I understand your concern, Lenovo does not recommend multi boot OS (Operating System) as the computer pre-installed applications are programmed to perform on single Windows platform to provide the best performance as per OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). I would suggest you to create a Recovery Drive for Windows 8 using the below link and then installing other OS.
How to Create a USB Recovery Drive and Use it to Recover Windows 8/8.1?
Do post us back for further queries.
