RE: Printing to Epson R1900 stylus fromCS3

Seems simple- cannot figure out how to turn off color management in printer dialogue box so PS manages colors. Drop down menus are not what is shown in manual?! New printer, installed software and ICC profiles for photo papers. Am not getting good prints - any ideas?

There are different drivers for Leopard vs Tiger. The latest for Leopard can be found at:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/SupportLeopard.jsp
and choosing the 1900 model. It seems to work pretty well, and from Aperture, at least, has an option to turn off Color Management.

  • PDF's not printing to Epson R1900

Posted problem awhile back. PDF would not print to my Epson R1900. Downloaded umpteen different drivers. I am on a G5 Intel Dual Core running OS 10.5.6 or 10.5.7 since yesterday. Adobe very little help, Epson likewise, although I talked to an Epson Tech for about 45 minutes one day.
Decided I had to fix this myself. When in the Print window Click on "Advanced", check mark "Print as Image". This enables printing the PDF.
Adobe has a note about this on their website now.

    Thank you!!!
I recently noticed that when using the Gutenberg drivers on my Epson Stylus Photo 380, it was shrinking the pages slightly.
So I decided to update the Epson drivers, and use them instead.
After updating, I could no longer print over my network. It was making my crazy. I tried everything that I could think of.
I saw your post & tried it. Perfect, worked like a charm!
    And such a simple solution.
    Thank you.

  • Dark Prints from Epson R1900 w/ Colormunki

I use the Epson R1900 and Colormunki and still get dark prints. Here is my setup.
    GEForce 8600 GT video card
    Sceptre DCLCD20 monitor
    Epson Stylus R1900 printer
In the calibration process, I have to turn my monitor Brightness control all the way to 0 to get to come close to what Colormunki wants.
I have to turn off the Enbale DDC Calibration function in the preferences or Colormunki sets my monitor so dark, I can barely see it.
I've tried printing in both Lightroom 2.4 and PS CS4 using the Colormunki generated profile and both prints come out dark - the same but dark
In LR, my color management settings are Profile: Epson ... (my profile) and Rendering intent: perceptual.
In PS CS4, my Color Handling settings are Photoshop Manages Color; Printer Prilfe is my colormunki generated profile, Rendering intent is perceptual.
    Both print previews look fine.
    Both prints come out dark
    Any suggestions would be appreciated?

    I don't use a Colormunki..but what you say here

sounds very strange. Usually when profiling a monitor and setting the luminance value (which is either called the brightness or backlight) control, you start from the brightest point the monitor will go to and then the device measures this and sets a recommended luminance value measured in cm2 (that is candles to the square meter) and you reset your monitor brightness until it matches the required value. Are you reading the instructions carefully as what you say here just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Setting the monitor to 0 (o what?) and saying the calibration device sets your monitor brightness (this will be done on the monitor controls not by a calibration device)
If you are also using the colomunki to make printer profiles I have heard of several serious problems with the device regarding this. I understand it makes icc v4 profiles and your printer drivers may use icc v 2...this will cause difficulties. You will usually be better using the canned profiles supplied by any paper manufacturer than attempting to make your own profiles with these cheaper end of the market devices in my experience.

  • Illustrator CS2 Printing Help - Epson R1900

    Hi there,
I've been printing to my Epson R1900 with no problems from  Illustrator CS2 from my Macbook for a year without a problem. I got a  new Macbook, only slightly newer than the last, reinstalled Illustrator,  and now my print quality is in the gutter. I've tried to adjust the  print settings, which I never had to do before, and it's still very  poor. What I am printing are just graphics I've drawn on-screen. No  images. In the Output section of Print Presets, I can't adjust anything  except Right Reading or Left Reading. Can anyone help? I don't know what  changed. All of the printer drivers are the same and are installed. The  strokes of lines look pixelated, as does the text. I know I could do  "Create Outlines" to sharpen it, but I never had to do that before, and I  want to be able to edit the text later.
    Hopefully someone can  help.
    Thank you for your time.
    Keli

You upgraded your OS as well and that is what has changed you will not be able to print from the epson R1900 with smooth curved lines or smooth paths.
Simply not possible in the newer OS above 10.5.
This is what you must do, Print from Acrobat or if you wish rasterize the art and print that.
Or save it a psd rasterized and print that from Photoshop.
    Or purchase a RIP software.

I have just purchased a new windows 8 computer and have cc photoshop installed.  when trying to print with my epson r1900, the only print options available are landscape or portrait and paper size letter or a4.  has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you solve it.

  • Printer ICM Epson Photo Stylus 2200

New computer with Window 8 64 bit.  Installed Epson Stylus Photo 2200 printer.  Download windows 8 driver update epson15163.exe with stylus driver v5.93.  After setting Photoshop manages color for printing, subsequently in advanced tab, highlighting ICM causes error message:" Printer driver host for application has stopped working."  Any resolution available?  Can only print image by allowing printer to manage color.

I think I found a work around. I am also having this problem. I went to Control Panel > View Devices and Printers > Select the Epson 2200 Printer Properties *NOT PREFERENCES* (right click will get you a menu to select this) > Advanced > Printing Defaults > click ICM > click No Color Adjustment > select the other details for the print job > click Save Setting > give the setting a name and click save > NOW, go to the print settings from printing out of photoshop and apply the saved setting you just created and it should change to have both "ICM" and "No Color Adjustment" clicked.
I've been looking every where for a fix, explaination or work around to this and I haven't found anything. I think this is a Windows 8 64-bit problem...but it could just be us, too. Let me know if this worked for you!
I'm working with WIndows 8 64-bit, running Adobe Photoshop CS2.

  • LR2 Printing Blank Pages on Epson R1900

Printing to Epson R1900 and Lightroom spontaneously started sending blank images. Made one print which was fine. When I sent my second print all I got was a 13x19 page with just the gloss optimizer. In the LR2 print preview window the image also shows blank. The image in the main window is fine. Printing is still good out of Photoshop so not the driver (which I subsequently re-installed).
Do I need to reinstall LR? Already re-booted and re-launched the Mac several times (running Leopard).

    Hi!
You say you updated all the software in the system.
Does this also mean you updated the security update
after upgrading your OSX version to 10.4.7?
If you updated some things and not others, that could
have effects on your wireless printing. And so could
upgrading the OSX from 10.4.4 to 10.4.7.
There are some newer printer drivers available from
what used to be known as gimp print; some free ones
that are supposed to help some printing issues; but I
do not know if they'd be of any help to your wireless
    printing issue as presented here.
Sometimes just doing routine system maintenance
can help the computer access peripherials and the
parts just start working again. Do you use any interface
utility such as OnyX to run system maintenance and
do you occasionally run "repair disk permissions?"
These kinds of things can sometimes fix the unseen cause.
    Good luck and happy computing!

  • Epson R1900 dark prints from CS5

I had Photoshop 7.0 on my PC and printed to an Epson Stylus Photo R1900 with great results.
I purchased a MacBook Pro and tried printing some of the same art prints (transferred via hard drive) using Photoshop CS5 and the same Epson R1900 printer. The prints are very dark!!  I switched to 'Printer manages color' on the advice of an Epson technician who said PS is managing color based on 4 ink colors. The Epson has eight colors. I have tried multiple settings, I bought a Color Munki and calibrated my monitor. I still can't get the same quality print that I got using my old PC and version 7.0 of Photoshop. Has anyone else solved this problem yet? I have found numerous comments online about the Epson R1900 printing too DARK!

I took my Epson R1900 printer to Washington State University and asked the printer technician to see if he could help.
The instructor and technician were co-teaching my photography class that included adjusting our digital photos in Camera raw and using correct settings in Photoshop to make prints. My prints turned out perfect on the WSU Epson. They were too dark on my R1900-(terrible actually.) I had a photo of mallard chicks with dark brown feathers, on my Epson R1900 they printed out with almost black brown feathers. The instructors tried adjustments (Photoshop manages colors), adjusting curves, and got the same result I did.
We then tested to see if it was my Mac. We used the same image and printed to my Epson from the WSU Macintosh computers.  This same image had printed perfectly on the schools Epson but printed dark on my Epson. Same settings. They suggested that I buy a different printer. The instructor said he had colleagues that had experienced similar problems. I just keep hoping I can find a solution rather than buying new.

  • Epson R1900 Printer Installed with Airport but not printing

I just installed my new Epson R1900 Printer and it says that it is online and recognized but when I send something to print it comes up in the queue and then disappears and doesn't print. The printer isn't idle or anything like that though, it still says ready.

I am guessing that using the card reader function also falls into the category of "advanced features" of the printer. I could not find a way to read my CF when plugged in to my Epson Stylus CX6000.
To solve the problem, I actually did unplug it from the Time Capsule and used it directly, only to reconnect it with the TC when I was done. Not convenient at all. Any word on whether Apple is working on this, or not? Or any other solutions?
In researching this issue through the Apple pages, I found that initially the Airport did not support a USB hub (single printer only), but now a powered USB hub is supported. A good sign that things do change for the better.

  • Printing to a shared Epson r1900 Over The Network

I'm considering an Epson R1900 printer as a replacement for my old Epson Stylus Photo 870. My printer will be set up in the basement though and hooked to a Linux box as print server. With the 870 I mostly use a CUPS raw queue on the Linux box and everything works fine. My Mac with OS X 10.5.6 prints just fine as do the Windows machines in the house. But in this case the Mac is using Gutenprint drivers since the printer is so old.
While I'm sure I can just use the Gutenprint drivers for the R1900 in the same way, what I want to know is how well the Epson drivers for the R1900 will integrate in this environment. Will they accept the fact that I'm passing the print commands through CUPS to a remote printer or do they need me to hook the printer up locally? If they're designed for a local printer can I fool them by hooking the printer up locally on installation and then redirecting the printer settings to point to a CUPS raw queue post installation?
Also, does anyone have experience with Gutenprint vs. Epson print results for the R1900? I'll mostly be printing from Aperture 2.1.

The problem is that the Epson driver(s) on OS X are based on Carbon and bypass the CUPS backends. Mac-to-Mac print sharing uses this fact and redirects USB comm output to the other Mac. If you could duplicate this on linux, you'd be a Mac and linux legend!
The More Printers > Epson USB drivers require USB connection; the Gutenprint (CUPS) drivers don't.

  • Print settings for Epson 4880 Stylus Pro - confusing

Am running LR 1.3 on a PC, Dual-Core, etc.etc. Last week I installed 1.3 and my new Epson 4880 Stylus Pro. Previously, with 1.2 I had been printing with an Epson Stylus 2200 and had no problems.
The 4880 driver, which is the latest and only driver at this point, brings up print options that I find confusing. It may be just a matter of terminology, but when I use the settthe ings that I think are identical to Photoshop CS3 handling of printing, the image is way too dark. P'shop CS3 prints beautifully with the 4880, exactly what I see on my calibrated monitor.
I want to let the Adobe engine handle the printing in LR, yet when I set the 4880 print setting to "No Color Adjustment" and show the proper 4880 profile in the LR settings, the resulting print is too dark. When I set it to "ICM Advanced" and enter the monitor profile, the printer profile, and the Rendering Intent, everything prints beautifully. I thought these settings, the "ICM Advanced", handed everything off to the printer, which I don't want. Am I just confused about which settings lets the Adobe engine do things? I've read Evening's LR book and anything else I can find about the Print Module, but the 4880 driver is different enough from the 2200 to create confusion. Also, the PC and Mac drivers have some different options.
I think the 4880 driver is very similar to the 4800, so if any user can help, I'd appreciate your advice.

Because when you start a new thread someone inevitibly gets on you for not searching for an existing thread.
I have an HP 2509m monitor.  There is no luminance setting but according to specs it's 300 nits.  Brightness is set to 90.  I can't find anywhere that will give me the cd/m2.  I really don't think it's the monitor since my Epson R1900 does not have the same issue.  I played with the settings some more and it seems color density is the only thing that make a noticable difference.  I turned off color controls on the printer and used CS4 for color management.  Set the ICM to the right printer and paper.  That DID make a difference but not much - still very dark printout.  And I'm not talking a little darker than what's on the screen - I'm talking black where it shoud be gray.
Here's the picture I'm having trouble with.  This is reduced in quality so I could post it, but you can still see what I'm talking about.  Note the building on the very bottom.  To the right of that are some hills that are dark green and you can make out some of the detail of a road with parked cars along it.  They're dark, but you can make them out.  In the printout, pretty much everything except the building is black.
    http://i789.photobucket.com/albums/yy173/pdeys/DSC_0067_comp.jpg
Can you see the green hills on your monitor?
I thought it might be the paper so I tried it with glossy instead of semigloss.  Same result.

I'm trying to print a .psd image from Photoshop CS5 using my Epson Photo Stylus 2400 printer.  Yesterday, I downloaded a suggested upgrade and it hasn't worked since then. I used Time Machine and replaced the Epson utility with the old one. I then get a message:

  • Problem printing in illustrator with my epson r1900

Hi, all. I recently bought an epson r1900. Tried to print out some images and types with my r1900 in either illustrator or photoshop.  The images printed allright, but all my types is getting some "pixelated edges" when its not a stright line...the edges are not smooth at all...no matter when the type is 12pt or 72pt... But on the other hand, when i convert the document to a jpeg and print with "Preview" the problem sloved... it does have a solid edges type... why is that?? i did have lots of experence with my pervious epson 1280,2200,and 2400 but i never got this problem before....can you guys help me with it??
    thanks

Wingyluk, were you ever able to find a way around this problem? Any driver download or RIP app that works with this printer? I have the same problem. However, I had the same problem a few years back with my older CS3 and older mac and somehow it ended up working (can'y for the life of me remember). Now that I have upgraded I am faced with the problem again.

  • Epson R1900 Color Issues Only Printing From Lightroom

Hi all - my first post here thought I've been reading this forum since I purchased 1.1 a while back. I'm using 1.4.1 with XP Home, service pack 3. I've had very few issues with this release (which is why I haven't jumped to 2.X yet). To date, I've occasionally printed snapshots with an HP 1115, but most printing has been through labs.
I recently purchased an Epson R1900 and I've been unable to get colors to print remotely correct through Lightroom. It looks to me like the color is getting managed twice, regardless of the settings I use. The R1900 driver allows a preview before actually printing, and the colors it shows are always off by a lot, regardless of whether I let Lightroom manage color or the printer.
Other less sophisticated programs do not have this problem. I can print a JPEG image through Windows Photo Printing Wizard or a pdf through Adobe Reader with much closer correlation to the monitor. Prints from the HP 1115 are comparatively much lower quality, but through Lightroom or other applications, color is within reason. I'm assuming there are others that are successfully using this printer with Lightroom running on Windows XP. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I solved my color problem by updating the printer driver to version 6.60. When I discovered that a newer driver was available I had attempted to update it but it would not install correctly. I contacted Epson for help, but only received links to non-relevant information. I eventually determined that using MSCONFIG to keep all nonessential programs from starting would allow the driver to correctly install. Simply shutting down all user launched programs and my virus software was insufficient.
Prints are definitely on the dark side, but I've been able to compensate as Dan has suggested. Otherwise, I am quite pleased with the prints it produces on Epson Premium Glossy, and am looking forward to experimenting with other papers and ICC profiles. Thanks all for your help and suggestions.
