Re: Protecting your system

Macs are just as vulnerable to SPAM and viruses as PC's, don't kid yourself. I write programs, IT Tech and security is my specialty. Your Mac is not only likely to have SPAM, I'd bet on it. There is only one way to completely safeguard your system, open mail on the internet, don't download anything from the internet. The internet is 96% SPAM infected. You-Tube, My-Space even Wiki, all have SPAM and viruses imbedded in their format. Download over the internet, scan, detect, isolate and delete all malicious content, only than transfer to your system. I wrote a program that will completely protect your computer from these items, and guess what? I give it away to other Mac users. I hate when people say "Macs cannot be infected, they need no security." WHAT??? Wake up and smell the viruses that make your curser swerve, applications that need to "Force-Quit" What do you think is going on? Macs contain the harm and damage that most SPAM is designed to maliciously create, yet are just as vulnerable as a Dell (I can hardy write that), yet I lie not. Post a message, I'll tell you exactly what's wrong.

The SCCM report and manuall installation says that the patch is "not required" and
The update is not applicable to your computer" means your computer doesn't require that particular patch.

  • Issue with latest Adobe Reader 11.0.10 - Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due to incompatibility with your system configuration.

    Since updating to the most recent Adobe Reader v11.0.10, getting an Adobe Reader Protected Mode: Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due do an incompatibility with your system configuration.  Would you like to open Adobe Reader with Protected Mode disabled?

    The solution I was looking for was to launch Adobe Reader in Protected Mode.
    I could not identify issues preventing Protected Mode from starting.  What ended up working, was to do a complete uninstall, followed by a reinstall.  Now we can load Reader in Protected Mode.

  • Adobe reader cannot open in protected mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration.

    I keep getting the error message: Adobe reader cannot open in protected mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration.
    I have Windows 7 Home basic Service pack 1 and have already uninstalled and re-downloaded Adobe reader XI twice. I have also read other threads on this forum, and
    tried the suggestions, including running Kaspersky anti-rootkit, no threats were found.
    My Adobe reader shortcut icon shows a small blue and yellow shield in the bottom right (I uninstalled Windows essential protection), but the problem prevails.
    I would rather get to the root of the error and fix it and not just disable protection mode!
    Please help.

    Hi,
    Please refer to the solution in:- Error: “Acrobat Failed to Load core DLL”.
    Also, may want to try disabling all Non-Microsoft Startup Services.

  • Adobe reader 11 cannot open in protected mode due to incompatibilty with your system configuration

    I have deployed Adobe reader 11 is our IT Enviorment using SCCM 2012 and the following warning Adobe reader cannot open in protected mode due to incompatibilty with your system configuration. Would you like to open Adobe reader with Protected Mode disabled is being displayed. When tried opening PDF files. Is there any way to isolate the cause without needing to disable the protected mode without needing to disable protected mode from Adobe reader settings.

    To the best of my knowledge: no.

  • Azure Antimalware (Endpoint Protection) says "your system administrator has restricted access to this app"

    I see many posts about using SCCM to configure policies, etc., etc. However, I can't find any information about my specific issue:
    I have installed the Antimalware extension on several Azure VMs. Only one VM allows access to "System Center Endpoint Protection". All the other ones say "your system administrator has restricted access to this app". Now, since I am the
    system administrator, I am at a loss how to be able to see / configure the other VMs using this program.
    I have not installed SCCM, since I didn't think I would need it. If, in fact, I must install SCCM, it pretty much defeats the purpose of an extension.
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    --- If I am in the wrong forum, please let me know where I should post my question, since there don't appear to be any forums discussing extensions for Azure.

    Although azure endpoint protection is the same core technology as SCEP it is not managed in the same way. Also, if the ConfigMgr agent is not installed on these VMs, then it's quite impossible for ConfigMgr to the source of the issue here. You are better
    off posting to an Azure forum.
    However, did you elevate when launching the EP console?

    EFI Boot ROM version MBP91.00D3.B08 (EFI 2.9) (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1593)
    SMC version 2.2f44 (SMC 1.8) (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1633)
    I downloaded and tried to run both the files

    AND
    MacBookProSMCUpdate.pkg
    as offered on this matrix, which instructs:
    "This article lists firmware updates that were released for Intel-based Macs. They update the firmware that originally shipped from the factory. If your computer does not appear on this list, an update from the factory firmware is not necessary.
    If you are unsure whether your computer needs a particular update, simply download and open the update installer. The installer will alert you if the firmware update is already installed or not needed."
    and instead of a message telling me of the proper update
    "This software is not supported on your system."
    So, why would the manual updater not tell me I already have the proper SMC and EFI updates?
    What is the reason I get the message that the software I downloaded from Apple Support is not supported on my system?
    Is this indicative of a larger problem with my MACBOOK PRO?

    [email protected],
    why were you trying to reïnstall the Boot ROM and SMC versions that were already installed on your MacBook Pro?
    I agree that  a “not supported” message is certainly less clear than an “already installed” message would have been.

  • Cannot find Microsoft Word installed on your system

    Hi,
    Wonder if anyone can help...
    I just tried to generate my printed documentation in RoboHelp
    and everytime I try I get the error message 'Cannot find Microsoft
    Word installed on your system'.
    It is installed, and when I go to Tools > Options >
    Tool Locations you can see it is pointing to the right location
    (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.EXE).
    This is the first project I have done with RoboHelp 7.0 on
    Vista- does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

    First, thanks to Wkugelman for this new initiative. I think
    we are a big step nearer, but not quite there yet.

    This happens to me on XP too, so there must be some other
    problem. I do have adminsistrator rights on this PC. Here's what I
    do
    1) Find WINWORD.EXE and create a shortcut to it on my
    desktop. I rename it to WINWORD.EXE
    2) In RH. Menu:Tools > Options > Tab:Tool Locations
    > Pane: HTML Editors
    3) Select the line Word 2003 and click the Edit... button to
    change the path
    4) I get a popup called HTML Editor with Word 2003 grayed out
    above, and a path selector text box below.
    5) Now it doesn't matter whether I use the path browser icon
    and navigate to my new shortcut, or whether I enter the path
    manually. When I click OK I get a popup saying the path is invalid
    or I return to the HTML Editor popup but the path to Word has not
    changed (it remains C:\Program Files\Microsoft
    Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE ).
    Notes: It doesn't matter whether the path is on C:\ where
    Program Files (with Office11 And Adobe Robohelp 7 reside), or on
    D:\ where my "My Documents" directory is with subdirectory My
    Robohelp projects.
    I have also played around with the two radio buttons at the
    bottom of the Tool Locations tab:
    * Auto-select editor and
    * Use default editor
    But to no avail. Can someone explain what these options
    change?
    If protections on the OFFICE11 directory or Winword
    executable are the problem, wouldn't it be simpler to loosen these
    so that RH can use it?

  • Your system administrator has restricted access to this app.

    Enabled the Endpoint role on primary site server.
    Enabled Endpoint protection in Default Client Settings
    We have Default Client Antimalware Policy set.
    When I click on System Center EndPoint Protection in All Programs I get following error:
    Your system administrator has restricted access to this app.

    I am getting this on several windows client builds with SCEP now, we don't have an Applocker policy at all, one of the computers in question is running Win 7 Pro!
    I cant see how it could be malware as the users are standard users.
    I also don't know how long its been like this, but a machine we just re-imaged last week is now doing it.
    going to re-image and see if an update is causing it.

    Windows used to not do well with a lot of RAM, but I haven't

  • The maximum report processing jobs limit configured by your system administ

    I have Created a common page that has a CrystalReportViewerControl (name of this page is ShowReport.aspx). The report name and database name that required for the report is being passed in a querystring. The database connection info is being pulled from the web.config file. All of the reports that I am dealing with have dynamic parameters and the Crystal Prompt page is automatically being created by the crystal viewer for these. Everything in my application is working fine except that when I try to access any report for the 76th. time I get the following error "The maximum report processing jobs limit configured by your system administrator has been reached."
    I have already researched this error and am aware that the PrintJobLimit can be modifed to increase this limit or can be set to -1 if we need to allow unlimited connections. However doing this is not an option due to the degradation of server performance.
    The other option that I have tried is to make sure I close and dispose of the report document object on the Page_unload or the page_SavedStateComplete() however on doing so even the session variable that I am using to store the originally created reportdocument is loosing all of the values it requires to display the report. The session variable is still available i.e. it is still of type report document but it has no values for any of the properties like FileName, database etc , basically for all of those properties it show an error "Invalid File Path" when viewed in debug mode.
    I have already tried several approaches but with no luck. Every single time I close the originally created ReportDocument object I loose all the required values in the Session
    I am using Crystal Report XI R2 , .Net 2.0 and ASP.net

    We have started receiving load report failed error again in one of our production servers. This problem occurred some months ago and on that time we found that in the code reportdocument.close method was not called so we added into the code and set the print job limit to 400 and problem went away for couple of months but now it has started again.

                'Hide the controls and display a message if there is no data
                crvMain.Visible = False
                btnPDF.Visible = False
                btnExcel.Visible = False
                lblNoResults.Visible = True
            End If
        End Sub
        Protected Sub Page_Unload(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Unload
            m_oReportDocument.Close()
            m_oReportDocument.Dispose()
        End Sub
    Can any one tell if we are doing anything wrong in our code. We don't use sub reports any more however we do use paging and some of our reports have 200+ pages. Also is it possible to find out print job limit and concurrent users by writing some code.
    Thanks

    I suspect it's not the code - after all it worked(?). It is much more likely that, it is the load. Remember that the report engine can only handle three concurrent requests at any one time. Also, remember that you can run out of print jobs real fast as subreports also count as print job. E.g.; say someone added a report that has 4 subreports in the detail section, the report runs a 100 records, you will be at 401 print jobs and thus over the limit. You can keep increasing the print job limit, but that means you are loading the server and eventually you will bring it down too...
    It may be time to consider, web farms or Report Application Server to scale up(?).
    Getting to the latest SP is never a bad idea either.
    And have a look at the scalability suggestions in this doc:

  • Does MacKeeper weigh on your system?

    I've hesitated a lot in starting this discussion.
    Jesus Christ! How a common non-expert user can get completely lost in intricate discussions on the horrors or virtues of this software! To no conclusion, at least for me.
    I have bought, installed, and used MacKeeper for a couple of months now, and - as far as I was able to notice - it did absolutely no harm to my system.
    My only doubt is if it weighs on the system. Meaning: does it slow it down in a notorious way?
    I know I risk starting another "tornado" with this question, ending up with no objective conclusion. But I thought I'd give it a chance.
    For that purpose, I'd beg all those who feel like answering, to keep to the slowing down issue, and nothing else. Try to keep away from things like unethical advertising, crashing your system, impossible to uninstall, unwanted warning messages, and so on. Many of these issues may even be true, but with the endless, overheated and inconclusive discussions I've read, I prefer to rely on my own experience for those matters, and as I stated above, until now I've had no trouble.
    So here it goes, with a tiny hope someone might help.

    And what do you people say about free anti-virus software, like the one from Avira (avira.com - a software house I trusted a lot when I used Windows)?
    The first thing to keep in mind is that there are no OS X viruses - none. It is logically impossible to detect and eradicate something that is not present, therefore Mac anti-virus software is of no benefit. The only viruses that can be detected on a Mac are those that affect Windows, for which Windows users are responsible. Without anti-virus software a Windows computer will become useless in a very short amount of time.
    If Windows never existed we would not be having this conversation. The best thing for a Mac user to do is forget it ever did.
    Mac malware exists - it always has - but it is incredibly rare. Nothing can prevent you from deliberately or unwittingly installing ill-written software or something malicious on your Mac, but OS X protects itself quite well on its own. All you have to do is let it. You already paid for its benefits as part of your Mac's purchase price. As far as third party AV software is concerned "free" is often not worth it.
    You shouldn't stick your head in the sand pretending that Mac malware is not a threat. Threats exist and they always will, and the best defence against them is to educate yourself. Blindly installing some magical cure-all avoids education and is a poor strategy that borders on irresponsibility. I will leave it to others to suggest some resources for you to follow.
