Re: Qosmio G30-129 supports 8GB RAM?

Hi,
I have a Qosmio G30-219, will this support the 2 x 4 GB - SO DIMM 200-pin - DDR2 (667 MHz)?
The reason I ask is that the tech.spec. states max 4 Gig RAM and 533 MHz, I just wondered if it would work :-) (since the spec. probably was written long time before the 4GB RAM chips were available).

Hi!
Two Memory modules can be installed to provide a maximum of 4GB.
So 8GB are not possible on this notebook.

  • Qosmio G30-194 support the sata2?

    Hi All,
I have a Qosmio G30-194 laptop.I would like to buy a Intel ssd,but for the ssd need SATA 2 support.Because just SATA 300 when the ssd works the right speed.I mean 250Mb/s read. The SATA 1 only works max.150MB/s.So my questions is my laptop support SATA2?
    Thank you for help.
    Kornel

    Hi
As far as I know the Qosmio G30-194 HDD controller supports simple SATA (150mbps).
I dont know what specification does the SSD needs but for example the SATA2 HDDs can be used because the SATA is down compatible.
However, if the SSD needs the SATA2 (300mbps) controller then there could be an issue

  • The reason why ONLY the 17'' MBP and the 15'' 2.66 support 8GB RAM

Hi, I think I know why Apple is able to offer 8gb ram support on the revised 2.66 MBP and not on the 2.53 or 2.4 MBP.
    Take a look at this:
    15'' 2.4-2,53 NVDA Chipset
    http://s1.guide-images.ifixit.com/igi/oEmmaxSOKDDvZfZh.large
    17'' NVDA Chipset
    http://s1.guide-images.ifixit.com/igi/SSLSgODWYbiIuTLL.large
There are TWO different revisions. The first is B2 and the latter is B3.
I think that the former does not support 8GB of RAM and the latter does. That explains why the 17'' has support and now the NEWs 15'' also have, Apple gave the 15'' not only a speed bump but also the newer revision of the chipset!

It is no longer possible to navigate to the 8GB page, but the direct link is still working:
    http://store.apple.com/us/memorymodel/ME15_2_66MBP
I called the Apple Store (1-800...) and was told that the max is still 4GB. Then I read the direct URL out to the sales rep and he was surprised to see the page. He put me on hold and when he returned he said he'd spoken to a sales engineer who said that it was untested and unsupported, but that this did not mean it would not work.
I'm not actually interested in buying 8GB of RAM right now, but I would like to have some confidence that if I buy a MBP now, that I will be able to upgrade later when memory prices come down.
My guess is that Mac OS X 10.5.7 will be released soon and at that point the specs will be updated to max 8GB supported.
    Fingers crossed!

  • Does 2009 Mac Pro quad core really only support 8GB ram?

    See:  https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4433#3
Does this mean that you cannot install more than 8GB of RAM?  Or does "maximum" mean that was the maximum you could order one with at the time?
If 8GB is the max, that's a pretty serious limitation, especially for a 3.5 year old machine.
Also, the amount of RAM it shipped with is 3GB.  Since there's no such thing as a 3GB or 1.5GB module that I can find, I guess I will need to replace the RAM that is there in its entirety.  I would very much like to install more than 8GB.  One of my applications specifies a minimum of 4GB.

Apple only recommends what they have tested themselves on currently-shipping machines.
Since they didn't SELL denser DIMMs, they did not bother to test them before that Mac was discontinued.
There are four slots, the last two of which are shared. You can install 8GB DIMMs (pairing is not necessary) for very reasonable amounts of money, often, but not always the old DIMMs can be retained if desired. You can also install 16GB DIMMs under certain restricted conditions if you do not mind the expense. This Mac-centric Vendor has done their homework on the issue:

  • Unibody 17" supports 8GB RAM why not the 15" ?

Pardon my ignorance....but if the 15" can only support 4 GB of RAM and 6GB unofficially, I would of thought the 17" with the same components and OS would be the same?
It's as though Apple has purposely prevented the 15" from accessing more RAM in order to keep a gap between the 17" and 15" models beyond the screen size and a few minor differences.
    Any thoughts?

The OS doesn't have anything to do with it. If the OS did, a Mac Pro would be limited to 4 gb RAM.
The hardware matters. That's why a Mac Pro supports a phenomenal amount of RAM. Nowhere has it been stated that the new 17" and the new 15" are the same internally, and I'd bet that they aren't.

  • Qosmio G50/402 - How to use 8GB RAM?

I have Qosmio G50/402 with 8GB RAM installed although the useable is only 4GB.
Is there any way to use the 8GB?

    Hello
    This can have different reasons.
Firstly you have to check if your notebook supports 8GB RAM. Check the specifications of your chipset but as far as I know Qosmio G50 should support 8GB RAM.
Furthermore it would be interesting to know what OS you have. To use full 8GB RAM you have to use a 64bit OS.
And what type of modules you are using exactly? In worst case the new module isnt compatible with your notebook. Normally the best option is using two identical modules from one manufacture, e. g. Kingston. I have very good experience with these RAM modules for notebooks so I can really recommend it.

  • Qosmio G50-12K - BIOS update for 8GB RAM support?

    Hi
I just upgraded my Qosmio G50-12k to 8GB RAM and installed Windows 7 64bit ultimate. The Windows see 8GB RAM but can only use 4GB. I have BIOS version 2.0.0 I wanted to upgrade to version 2.10 "P0060v210.exe"
When I run the BIOS update i get this massage [Error] BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsepported OS or service pack installed.
I am really clueless on what to do. Can Qosmio G50-12k BIOS be updated to support 8GB RAM?
    please help !
    thanks allot eliot

    Hi eliotah,
In my opinion BIOS update is worth a try!
But I dont understand why you cant make this update. Have you installed Toshiba Value Added Package? In my opinion its necessary to start the BIOS update.

Actually the unibody machines switched from an Intel chipset to the NVidia MCP79 chipset.
The thing is tho, what I dont understand is why both late 2008 and mid 2009 motherboards use the came motherboard (both using the same chipset) and still limit the user from doing this. I thinks its just apple's way of saying "Buy a new computer"
Below in the links, NVidia say that their chipset used in the late 2008 systems can support 8GB but its up to Apple if they want to enable it or not.
It's really not fair at all, its been proven that the late 2008 systems can support the update just by a simple EFI update. *Get on it Apple!*

  • Qosmio G30-175: DVD-RAM Drive thinks its a CD drive

    Hello people, me again.
My 2 week old Qosmio G30 - 175 has a DVD-RAM drive that now appears in My Computer as a CD-Drive. Consequently (I think) it won't auto play DVD's. I can play them manually through Media Centre or WMP but no option appears in the drive's properties for auto playing DVD's.
Can anybody tell me why this has happened? It used to show up as a DVD-RAM drive. The only thing I have done is to install Nero Premium. Would that have anything to do with it?
    Many thanks.

Joao, I have tried uninstalling the drive and letting Windows re-detect it but still the problem persists. Thanks anyway for the suggestion.
Gipsyman, I will investigate further what other burning software is installed and remove it and see if it helps. Thanks.
Sorry about the delay but I have been working away all week.
BTW the drive won't autoplay CD's now either. Whenever I put a CD or DVD into the drive Windows brings up the normal Explorer window and just displays the contents as folders. Right-clicking and selecting Autoplay I get the options for CD choice only (ie play with Media Centre etc.) but the "always perform this action" check box is greyed out!
I have been in touch with Toshiba support and they are still looking into it.
My system clock loses time too, whether or not it is connected to a time server. :-( Thanks...

  • Qosmio G30-189 BIOS Update to support Intel Core 2 Duo ( MEROM )

    Hello !
Can you tell when Toshiba will release a BIOS Update to support the new intel core 2 duo mobile cpu.
The actual BIOS 1.4 does not recognize the new cpu type.
As Toshiba delivers a core 2 duo based qosmio in USA G35-650 a bios should be availble.
For sure I now that this makes the gurantee go away.
    Please help.
    Greetings
    Marcus Reichert

Hmm, yes sure - i work in IT and I think I repaired 5000 notebooks ... I am certainly not mad at you !
I am happy that anyone answeres me ....
So, I have here an Qosmio G30-145 and the G30-189 - they are absolutely identical.
Only the Video Ram is smaller and a different CPU is inserted.
In the US there is the G35-650 - also nearly the same - and this uses a creo 2 duo.
Be sure Toshiba will not build different units - they just change the name and include some minor changes to config ( pal and ntsc etc. )
You will be sure to see a G30 with Core 2 Duo very soon here in europe or germany and then bang - it will be the same hardware with a different bios - I BET !!!
Yes, I know the power Saving Tool and I agree with you in all points.
BUT windows XP, Linux and Vista do also habe power schemes and controll the fans - the Toshiba tolls adds only more features.
I think the actual bios accepts now the core 2 duo, but still has problems with the power scheme - Intel says the CPUs are nearly comaptible.
I have tested Core 2 Duos, Asus and other - no problem at all.
I think if we wait we get a bios which fixes all, problem is I need it know.
    Have a nice weekend
    Marcus

  • Windows Vista 64 Bit and Button Support - Qosmio G30?

Windows Vista 64 Bit and Button Support?

Everybody claiming that Vista x64 (or Ultimate) can't be used with FN keys or Flash Cards is utterly wrong!
I have a Qosmio G30 running Vista x64 Ultimate, and have both FN keys, Toshiba Flash Cards and (partly) the hardware buttons at the top working.
After a lot of research, I found that Toshiba has released a 64-bit version of VAP called util_tvap_27581D. If you google it, you might discover it...
