Re: Qosmio X875-Q7280 - Reverted BIOS from 6.10 back to 1.30

Hi guys. A few days ago I decided to listen to Toshiba's Service Station alert and updated my BIOS.
Big mistake (at least for a X875-Q7280 owner)
The new version had incompatibility problems:
* Eco Mode became useless as it forced me to work with the screen in brightness level 1 all the time.
* A glitch in the BIOS turned off the touch pad from time to time.
* I noticed the right side fan was working more as the laptop became warmer than with previos BIOS version.
* The "Panel open - Power On" was enabled all the time, regardless I set it to "Disable" in Hwsetup or BIOS.
An hour ago, I decided to revert to the previous BIOS version (*from v6.10 back to v1.30*). I did it myself.
Now I can use Eco Mode with a very acceptable screen brightness, the laptop is cooler now, no loud fan sound, it doesn't turn on whenever I open the panel, etc.
What I probably miss is the booting screen with just the big "Qosmio" logo on it. Really, it was elegant :)

Hi hitchhikers and sorry for the late reply... I thought I'd receive an email whenever there is an update in my posts in this forum... anyway, to revert the BIOS version you must create a CD with the ISO image included in the BIOS updater file.
Use Nero or Ashampoo or even Toshiba disk creator to 'create a disc from image' and boot from the CD. The program will do the job automatically.
Carefully read the recommendations like to plug the computer to the AC outlet, and all of the other recommended actions.
Also, don't forget to follow all the instructions like press F9 to load defaults after the update is done, etc.
That's how I did it. I wish you luck but if you have a Toshiba rep to do the job, I'd recommend you to take your laptop with them... I did it myself because I had previous experience some time ago and I was prepared to take the consequences if something go wrong... Good luck!

  • Qosmio X875-Q7280 - recovery CD question.

Ok i've got Toshiba Qosmio X875-Q7280. Does it even come with recovery cd/dvd. I want to reinstall the windows (like a did a year or so ago) but can't find any system restore cd's in the box or anywhere. (I do have some disks i don't know where are they from)
So do i need a recovery cd/dvd to reinstall hte windows from it's factory settings (also keeping everything in D) or i can do it without one. Because i looked everywhere and can't find a cd related to this laptop and i'm too scared to start a recovery and then get asked for a cd i can't find.

Since long time Toshiba offer notebooks with preinstalled OS but WITHOUT installation disc in the box. OS installation disc (recovery disc) must be created by notebook owner. For this purpose Toshiba has created and preinstalled small tool called Toshiba recovery disc creator.
If Im remembering well all started with Windows Vista.
Original recovery image is saved on HDD. If there is no problem and so long your notebook has original factory settings you can install original recovery image using HDD recovery option.
Anyway, Toshiba recommends recovery image back-up. Using preinstalled tool you can create bootable recovery media. If HDD recovery image is not possible you can use this created recovery media and install original recovery image and start to use your machine with factory settings again.
This original version must not be activated. It contains valid product key.

  • Where is the HDD light in Qosmio X875?

    Hi to everyone!
I have just opened my Qosmio X875-Q7280 and immediately noticed that there was no Hard Disk light status indicator... at least where it should be.
Can you tell me where is it located (if there is one) or tell me what application may I use to know when the HDDs are working or not? This is very important to me.
    Many thanks! :)

  • Update BIOS from DOS command line?

Hello, I'd like to be able to flash the BIOS from the boot prompt or with a USB/CD/DVD based tool. I cannot open any OS even from live DVDs. My Presario SR5507F came originally with Vista installed but over the years it was upgraded to Windows 8.1. It gave us years of reliable service but sometime last fall the PC started experiencing seemingly random reboots and powerdowns. Things got pregressively worse until the PC was unusable. It would run for 15 or 20 minutes and then reboot. The problems started shortly after a Windows update, so I thought this was a patch or driver update issue. I tried reverting an removing patches to no avail. I also tried installing Ubuntu and Fedora, but they exhibit the same issues. Fedora is worse than Ubuntu, though. I tried to reinstall Windows 8.1, then 7 and finally the original Vista 32-bit OS but all Windows installations fail at some point during drivers installation. The computer just enters an endless reboot cyle and Windows cannot be installed. I ran memory tests but they all pass and I can use a text based OS, such as DOS. I have tried to reflash the BIOS, thinking it may have been corrupted during one of the reboots, but since I cannot install any version of Windows, the BIOS flash tools refuse to work. I need to be able to flash the BIOS from the DOS command prompt or at boot. Is there such a tool from Compaq/HP? Thanks!

The BIOS file is found on THIS PAGE and is listed asMCP61PM-HM Motherboard BIOS Update 5.271.5 MBAug 2, 2012sp40911.exe Open the download after it is complete with 7-zip by right clicking on the sp40911.exe, then extract the Net5.24 to a known location.  AWDFlash downloadJust rename the file to 524.bin and use awdflash from DOS.Use  awdflash 524.bin /cc/cd/cp/py/R

  • Qosmio X875 - ECO mode doesn't work right after Win 8 upgrade

I used Toshiba upgrade assistant to upgrade to Win 8. It did a good job uninstalling the non-compatible software before upgrading, and installing the new Toshiba and driver versions after the upgraded was completed.
I activated ECO mode and to my surprise, it isn't working as before (in Win 7):
*Now, it just works with brightness in level 1*... very dim. Before, ECO mode allowed me to go up to level 4 and still was considered to be in Eco mode..
If I increase brightness, the message "eco Mode is turned Off" immediately pops up.
How to contact Toshiba to let them know of this problem and other problem I found with the new BIOS?
    BTW, I own a Qosmio X875

    > How to contact Toshiba to let them know of this problem and other problem I found with the new BIOS?
Contact your Toshiba authorized service provider in your country.
    Read this:
+What is the TOSHIBA eco Utility?+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ2503AT0000R01.htm
    > It changes the display brightness to Level-4, changes the dimmed display brightness to Level-1 (*4),
_The *4 means Only on models with Windows7 installed_
I assume the previous configuration was related to Win 7 only.
The Win 8 was made for mobile (tablet usage) too the battery power consumption is very important factory using Win 8. The battery consumption needs to be hold on lowest level as possible.
So I assume now using Win 8 and ECO mode means to save max power and to extended battery working time to a max level.

  • Qosmio X875-Q7190 2nd hard Drive Use Problems

    Hi,
I have had my Qosmio X875-Q7190 for over a year now and i'm running out of room on the main hard drive. I've noticed the second drive of equal size wasn't being used at all to a point it didn't even have a partition on it. My question is how do I set my system up for spanning of the two drives, so the second drive is an extension of the first drive?
I've gone through the online document, but it seems to be very generic to a whole series of notebooks, many of which may not even have a second drive and as a result I can't seem to find any information on it. I've looked in the system BIOS for some hint of a setting having to do with setting up RAID on the drives, but there is none to be found. I've tried partitioning the second drive, but the option for spanning is greyed out.
At this point, I'm getting ready to look at backing up my critical information after ordering two new, larger hard drives. Then, wiping the current one clean after receiving the new ones and reinstalling everything with setting up the second drive as a data drive only.
I have been getting into a lot of 3D Graphic Art and Photo/Video editing over the past several months and while the software has taken up a lot of room on my system, all the content I have been adding has really been eating up my space like mad. I'm also looking at doubling the amount of RAM in my system and I have been looking for where the other two SIMMs where. Just so you know, the information is not in the online documentation, where you would think it would be. Thankfully, I found that information here in the forums.
    Thanks,
    Jeff Salakar

Update: The drive was reformatted on another g5 10.5 system and worked when I placed it back in my system. This leads me to believe that my install of 10.5 needs to be wiped clean and re-installed.

  • New Qosmio X300-14p with bios 2.40

    hi,
i purchased a new toshiba qosmio x300 in a store that had a single one still in stock.
i have had a x300-.14p (pqx32e-04h02wgr) before and thus know it a bit.
i remeber : the latest bios for the x300 even today is version 2.10
i was surprised that the new x300 i purchased has the bios version 2.40 !!!
    ================================================== =========
how can a new x300 have a later bios than that offered in the official toshiba support site for the qosmio x300 ?
my question : is this ok ?
or is this some weird error and do i have to DOWNGRADE bios from v2.40 to V2.10 ?
but it looks normal and as of yet i have not detected anything unusual.
maybe a toshiba official can help ?
    but besides, any clue welcome.

the hdsetup tool of course reports the same version than the bios : 2.4
the notebook was one that has been standing as a demo in the shop for awhile, so it might have
been used a couple of times by the personal for demonstrations to customers.
so i repeat my question : how can there be a bios 2.4 when the latest offered by toshiba is 2.1 ?
IS BIOS 2.4 OK for QOSMIO X300-14P ?
    ===============================
of course i expect that someone from toshiba at least from time to time reads and answers here.
this is the OFFICIAL toshiba forum on the official toshiba site, of course i expect them to read and answer here !
what kind of company is this, anyway ?
especially in cases like this, when users can obiously not help.
and it is in their OFFICIAL website,
i expect that they answer those questions.
it is their job. thats what support forums are for.
my question is still unanswered !
i am still waiting for an answer (for quite some time, now).

  • Need extra cooling for Qosmio x875! Surprised?

I'm looking for a laptop cooler and/or vacuum cooler for my Qosmio x875. I am currently considering the CM SF-19 and the CM Notepal X3. Which one is better for the Qosmio x875? I couldn't find exact specs on the Qosmio airflow, so I am loathe to simply make a judgement based on what I can guess.  I've already reapplied thermal paste and that brought my motherboard and CPU down from 100°C down to 75°C during maxed out gaming. A significant improvement, but still a bit too hot for my tastes, which is why I'm looking for extra coolers.  Any suggestions?

    Hello Tom
Maybe you should simple clean up your notebook, or be sure your notebook is placed properly on the desk.
You can also put something under back side to make more distance between the desk and your laptop. I have placed two small books (about 1 cm) to allow better air circulation.

  • Qosmio X875-Q7290 Black Screen of Death

    Hey everyone,
My dad purchased a Qosmio back in 2012 for work. It's a powerhouse that can pretty much accomplish any job. Here are the specs, and then I'll get into my problem:
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
    System Model: Qosmio X875
    BIOS: InsydeH2O Version 03.72.306.30
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.3GHz
    Memory: 16384MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M
    Display Memory: 4095 MB
My dad passed shortly after he purchased the laptop so I then took it over and brought it to college with me. There was an incident where my motherboard completely fried and Toshiba fixed it for me. I was extremely greatful and left notes for the staff in my box when it shipped to Toshiba, haha.
It's been over a year since that incident and now I have come across another. I'm a heavy gamer and, until 4 days ago, have had a flawless experience. The black screen of death has only emerged recently and seems to be increasing in frequency.
Usually this happens when I am gaming, however it has also happened when the computer is simply idle. Everything will be running just fine and suddenly the screen will go black, the keyboard becomes unresponsive, and if there was sound it is stuck in a loop. The only way to remedy the situation is to hard shut down the computer and restart it.
Since the first incident I have been diligent in monitoring heat which has never gone over 71c even in my heaviest of game play. I have also uninstalled and re-installed the most current video driver. I have run multiple virus checks, I have cleaned the computer inside and out, defragged the harddrive (Well not really out of the ordinary I do it every wednesday), and have also done general clearing and cleaning of any unnecessary files.
Still, no matter what I do, I am getting this Black Screen of Death. I have followed many guides and suggestions which have done nothing. When I reinstalled my video driver I did, atleast, get about 1.5 hours of gameplay which my heart was then crushed because it happened again.
I am WELL over my warrenty... And can not afford to take my computer to a profession / send it in to Toshiba. I'm moving soon, as I have just finished college, and have yet to find a job.
Any advice or questions are welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

It's hard to know for sure, but it does sound like a hardware failure that would require servicing. RAM would probably be an easy place to start if you were looking to do hardware troubleshooting yourself.
As an aside, if you just copy WoW to an external drive and copy it back, it'll work without needing to go through a lengthy install/download process. You'll need to install the Launcher though of course. In fact, D3 works the same way. You might already know that, but it makes it easy to back them up.

Hello, I am having problems with my power connector not staying in it's socket allready!!The laptop is on a small table and the laptop is only used a few times a week!Is there a Right Angle 90-degree Power Adapter Connector Converter for TOSHIBA Qosmio X875-Q7290?I think this would help solve the problem. Thank You

Get an aftermarket universal charger, perhaps?    Their connectors are mostly  right-angle.    I have some iGo Green model that looks like this but is an older model.    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834993922

How did you copy files to the external drive, and what files did you copy? Did you drag and drop in the Finder? Use a clone utility? What files did not successfully copy?
If you reformatted the drive as part of your install, then you won't be able to recover any files from the drive. Reverting back to (reinstalling) 10.4 will not help you.
Do you have a complete-drive backup of your old system?

  • Z68 WIN 7 will not boot after setting drive BIOS from IDE to SATA

    MSI Z68MA-ED55 (B3) Motherboard
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS
SATA III Solid State Drive with greater than 500 MB/s throughput
After installing WIN7 and all my Applications programs I noticed in the BIOS that the driver for the SSD did not properly set to fully support the SSD but remained in the IDE mode.
This computer was built for technical graphics work and not for child's play.  So I don't want to have to reinstall all the applications software for work with all its required protection features from theft.
    QUESTIONS:
    1. With this high transfer rate SSD, is it worth the performance improvement to reset the BIOS from the IDE driver to the proper driver?
    2. If so, how can I set the BIOS to the correct driver without reinstalling everything?
    3. At some level of the installation the system should have sensed the SSD SATA III and changed the driver from IDE. Where should this take place?

    Hi,
I had the same problem. You need to put it back to IDE, boot to Windows then follow the below instructions and it works fine. (Courtesy of Guru3D)
    Enable AHCI
The last tip we want to give you to gain a little extra performance boost is that you enable AHCI mode. AHCI mode can help out greatly in performance for SSDs. Now, if you swap out an HDD for an SSD with the operating system cloned and THEN enable AHCI in the BIOS, then you'll likely get a boot error / BSOD.
The common question is, is there a solution for this ?
To answer that question (and as we do safely with all modern chipsets) there is a way to safely enable AHCI mode. Here we go:
    1. Startup "Regedit"
    2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
    3. Open msahci
    4. In the right field left click on "start" and go to Modify
    5. In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"
    6. exit "Regedit"
    7. Reboot Rig and enter BIOS (typically hold "Delete" key while Booting)
In your BIOS select "Integrated Peripherals" and OnChip PATA/SATA Devices. Now change SATA Mode from IDE to AHCI.
You now boot into windows 7 or Vista, and the OS will recognize AHCI and install the devices. Now the system needs one more reboot and voilla ... enjoy the improved SSD performance.

  • After restoring BIOS from USB still HP BIOS Utility starts

Hi guys, after a BIOS update my HP Pavilion 15-e026sl not boot anymore, it does the following scheme:
    I press the power button
Power, Bloc Maiusc and wifi lights and fan on but dark screen
2/3 seconds and everything shut down
The pc automatically reboot with bloc maiusc light flashing
HP Bios update starts with the need to recovery Bios because it's corrupted
Flash the Bios, but when verifying the bios flashed I got error
    Everything restart from point 4
So, I read on this forum and on the HP Support Center how to create the famous "HP_TOOLS" USB stick in order to restore the BIOS image. (With another pc) From the Support Page of my Pavilion 15-026sl I downloaded the latest BIOS update (F.23), I started the .exe file and I created the USB Stick choosing the correct option.
Then I put the USB on the Pavilion and with Win + B + Power combination the pc started to recover BIOS from USB, and this is the log that I extracted from the USB stick:

    Verification of BIOS image failed
The pc reboot itself and everything restart from point 2.
Infinite Loop! How can I do to resolve this issue? It's something broken on the mobo? Or do I have to clear the CMOS? Or something similar?
    P.S.: My warranty ended.
P.S.2: I put USB Stick in USB2.0 port and not in USB3.0 ports
P.S.3: I have also tried to:
    Remove HDD and power on
Remove RAMs simultaneously and power on
    Remove CD/DVD-RW and power on
Holding Power On for 1 minute with no external power and power on
    But nothing's changed
Thank you to anyone who wants to help me

Download the current BIOS Rompaq on another Windows PC. Double click it to open it. Choose the" create a recovery USB flash drive to use on devices with corrupted BIOS." option
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-134117-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Plug a 2GB or larger capacity flash drive into an available port
Once the recovery usb flash drive has been created, plug it into your pavilion 15 notebook and press the power button to boot to it and write a fresh bios rom file into the CMOS ROM to replace the corrupted one currently there.

  • Booting BIOS from USB doesn't work (890FXA-GD70)

    Hi all,
in case of BIOS crash, recent MSI motherboards should be able to boot using a BIOS provided from an USB pendrive. I have tested this function by calling it directly by BIOS option, but it fails after BIOS is loaded getting a blank screen (debug code: 09) or the monitor off (debug code: 31). Does any of you know whether the problem is fixable or any hints? Is it working to you?
    890FXA-GD70 (either BIOS 1.0 and 1.6)
Verbarim Store'n' go 4GB USB pendrive (tested with FAT32, FAT16 formats, partitions smaller, bigger... nothing)
BIOS save function doesn't work as well. Some bytes are different comparing the saved file to original one.

it's probably m-flash issue, what's current bios version installed?
Yes, you can say: "Flash your BIOS to the last version released some days ago, and retry", but that is the last chance for clear reasons. The problem hasn't been fixed flashing from 1.0 to 1.6, and I guess likely this code with the bug is in non flashable part of BIOS.
I wonder whether Boot 2nd BIOS from USB Drive (or Backup BIOS to USB Drive) is working for someone, it looks impossible it is entirely broken...
