Re: Question about RAM expansion on Satellite M60

*RAM extention*:
What kind of memory should I buy if I want to extend it from 512MB to *2GB* or more for
*Satellite M60*-182 under Windows XP Home Editon with Service Pack 2
I mean: frequency, symbol, producer etc. to work properly?

Hi,
your machine can be upgraded to a maximum main memory capacity of 2GB, which means:
to expand the memory to the maximum limit what the machine is able to, you must put 2x 1GB DDR2 S0DIMM modules with a frequency of 533Mhz in both slots of your machine.
I would suggest you the following brands: Toshiba, Kingston, OCZ

  • Question about memory expansion on Satellite A80-117

I have a question regarding the memory compatibility.
(The A8-117 is a 1.6 GHz Centrino (Pentuin M processor 730) with 533 MHz FSB, and 2 MB of 2nd level cache, Intel® 915GM Express chipset)
At the moment i have 1 chip of 512MB (333MHz, CL 2.5) installed. I plan to upgrade to 1.5 or 2GB. So what bothers me is: can I install a 533MHz DDR2 modules on this laptop (in that case the old 333MHz one goes out)?
At the official Toshiba site only 333MHz DDR are provided, while the 915GM express chipset allowes it.
If 533 is not possible i guess i'll just buy additional 1GB of 333MHz DDR.
    Thanks in advance!
    Bostjan

    Hello
At first I want to say that is always recommended to use compatible and tested RAM modules. On this way you will be sure it will work well and without any problems.
According the notebook specification you can upgrade RAM to 2GB max and compatible modules are: PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-2M51) and PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-2M1G).
You can use faster RAM modules but for me it is really not necessary. The notebook specification is 333MHz bus speed and faster modules will not help that notebook runs faster. It is better to buy 2 x PA3313U-2M1G and you will have no problem and notebook will runs much much faster than before.

  • Questions about ram upgrade of Satellite L100 (PSLA3L)

I have the above laptop and a new stick of Ram, don't have a manual however are there instructions for upgrading this?
I've opened the back and type of clip that holds the RAM is unfamiliar to me. I can see how it goes in but it doens't clip in easily which leads me to belive i'm missing somthing, either that or it requires an ungodly amount of force.
    Grateful for any assistance

Why you dont take a look into the user manual???
There is an detailed instruction placed ;)
Simply remove the cover, lift one side of the insulator sheet and fit the modules connectors into the computers connectors at about 45 degree angles. Press the module careful to ensure a firm connection.
Push the module down so it lies flat. Latches on either side will click into place to secure the module
    Thats all

  • Question about USB Expansion for Satellite L30-105

    Hello,
Just ordered a L30-105, but have noticed that it only has 2 USB ports. Is it possible to expand this via an expansion card (or any other solution!)?
Seeing as I have broadband via USB, an optical mouse, 2 printers, an external HD (for music - photos etc) and a photo card reader, looks like i may have wasted a decent amount of money buying the L30-105.
    Cheers in advance!

    HI Daniel,
Unfortunately, the only way in which you can add extra USB ports is to use a powered hub of some sort to increase the number of available USB ports. Using a powered hub will ensure that your USB devices all receive sufficient electrical power to function correctly.
You could also consider a PCMCIA adapter card which will provide a further two USB ports but this will obviously prevent you from using your PC slot for any other purpose. I use just such a card on my A30 from time to time.
    regards,

  • Question about RAM CL

Hi guys. I'm finalizing my PC build and have a question about ram CL that I cannot find answers to on the tweakers page here. http://ppbm7.com/index.php/news/planning?showall=&start=3
I'd like to use these two ram sticks as an example.
    Transcend JetRam™ High-Performance 8GB DDR3-1333 240-Pin Module : CL9, 6-Layer PC Board
    Transcend JetRam™ High-Performance 8GB DDR3-1600 240-Pin Module : CL11, 6-Layer PC Board, Ultimate cross-platform compatibility and stability
My question is, which is better for video editing? On the one hand we have 1333mhz at with a CL of 9. On the other, we have faster 1600mhz ram, but at a higher CL of 11. Now, I'm not one to get caught up in the technicalities like it may seem, but I do want to understand these so I can make informed decisions, especially when price is a factor. In this case however, they are the same price...

    From http://ppbm7.com/index.php/news/cpu-mobo
Make up your mind about the number of memory sticks you want to install. On the X79 platform, do you want to use 4 slots, or do you want to fully populate all 8 slots? This is very important especially with i7-3930K / 4930K CPU's, which have a rather finicky memory controller.
Make a shortlist of quad or octo packs of memory sticks in the size you want, limiting yourself to ONLY sticks using 1.5V or less.
Check the motherboard manufacturer's site QVL list to see which of the sticks on your shortlist are approved. Pay attention to the number of slots for which they are approved. Some modules are approved for 4 slots only, others for fully populated use.
Check the memory manufacturer's site QVL list to see which motherboards are approved.
Try to establish if there are users that have been successful in using the sticks on your shortlist and delete any that were giving trouble to others. NewEgg can be a good source for that.
Now that you have a very short shortlist, contact the Technical Support departments of both the motherboard manufacturer and the memory manufacturer and ask them to confirm or deny the compatibility of the memory modules in the quantity you need.
If both confirm compatibility, check the physical height of the modules including heatsink in relation to the intended CPU cooler. Do they fit without modding?
In general, only buy matched sets of memory sticks. There are too many different sticks with the same type number, that will cause grief when bought as four single sticks, but you limit the risk by only buying quad sets or octo sets for fully populated X79 platforms.
CAS latency is no longer important, in fact, with the finicky nature of the memory controller of the Sandy Bridge-E, it can be advantageous to choose a higher CAS latency for improved compatibility. What can be important - relatively speaking, only in single digit % performance differences - is the rated speed of the memory, 1333 or 1600 or 2133 or even 2400.
Even though the X79 platform only supports - at least officially - up to DDR3-1600, one can use XMP profiles in the BIOS to have the memory run at its rated speed of say 2133. For my new 'Monster' I followed these steps and ended up with a fully populated 8 x 8GB octo set of G.Skill RipjawsZ F3 DDR3-2133 sticks that are running without any problems at 2180 MHz.

  • Question about Ram upgrade on a Satellite A110 machine

    Hi,
    I wonder if i can replace my 512 MB PC 4200Mhz SO-DIMM DDRII with a 2 GB PC 5300Mhz SO-DIMM DRRII i to my A110 Satellite?
    thanks in advande.
    /Mattias

The notebook can be upgraded up to 2GB. You could use max 1GB RAM module in one memory slot!
The notebook seems to support the 533MHZ FSB and therefore I should be possible to use the 533Mhz memory modules too

  • Question about Ram upgrade on a Satellite Pro A200

I want to purchase some internal memory for my A200 Satellite Pro Mod No,PSAE1E but I cannot find my model in the drop down lists, which memory do I need, I want to upgrade using two 1GB memory sticks, at present I have two 512MB sticks installed.

    Hi
    The compatible modules are: *DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM*
As far as I know all notebooks from the A200 series can be upgraded up to *2GB* .
This means that one memory slot would support max 1GB RAM module.
As the previous user already said, the Kingston modules are not bad.
I use it in my notebook too and till now the modules are ok.
    Cheers

  • Question about Ram upgrade on a Satellite A200

    hi friends,
i`ve a Satellite A200-13O with 120GB HDD, 1.8GHz Intel Centrino Duo, 1GB ram but it has 2 512 chips installed.
if i upgrad 2 1 GB ram is there any chance of improvement in performance....??
and what if i upgrade to 2GB dual channel....??
    it has Windows Vista Ultimate...!!
    Thanks,
    Nagal

You mean you would use only one 1GB ram module?
Well, you would still have 1GB RAM but the dual channel cannot be used due to missing of second module.
So if you can, try to use exactly the same 2 modules to get the best memory performance.
The notebook supports two memory slots therefore you cannot do anything wrong insert 2 modules into the 2 slots to run the modules in dual channel

  • Question about HDD upgrade on Satellite M40X-184?

    Hello
I want to ask if there is an option to insert a new hdd in my toshiba. As far as I know there is no official support for this??
There is an access to the place where the disk is placed on the side of notebook. S
    o my question is
    1. is it possible to place a new disk (faster and bigger)
    2. is it possible without loosing warranty
    3. what disks do you suggest
    Thanks Szczepaan

    Hello Hinni
Unfortunately there is no public document about that and those information has Toshiba service partner or some independent PC and notebook service specialized for upgrade.
I can just tell you that Toshiba directly dont support hardware upgrade and I have noticed that hardware upgrade is cuts into three areas:
    - user upgrade (memory)
    - dealer upgrade (HDD)
    - service upgrade (WLAN card, BT module)
If you want to exchange the HDD alone take old out and notice all data on the sticker and talk with your local dealer if you want to buy the same but with more capacity. You can test new one and if there is some problem (not recognized by system) you can send it back any time.

  • Question about CPU upgrade for Satellite A30-104?

    Hello,
My Satellite A30-104 has recently come to the end of its warranty, and having had to open up the heatsink for cleaning and seeing that the CPU was accessible, I wonder if there is any (likely) scope for upgrading it.
The processor is a Celeron (Northwood) 2.6GHz. I'm not looking for more grunt, I'd prefer a lower-power chip, though the much larger L2 cache of a Pentium 4 is also desirable. I'd be very grateful if anyone could advise whether any upgrades are likely available, and if so which chips would be appropriate? If I can give any more useful spec information, please ask.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, thanks for the reply -- and sorry it went ignored so long, it turns out I hadn't configured my email watches correctly :(
I appreciate that it's really a job for a technician, and I don't want to brick a perfectly good computer, but I think its EOL is not far off anyway so I'm prepared to be a little more invasive than before.
I know that I can get at the CPU, and I know the basic precautions for physically tampering with PC internals.
What I'm first of all concerned about is this: if I replace the CPU, and it doesn't function with the laptop, can this damage other parts of the system such that it'd no longer work by replacing the original?
The Celeron puts out a great deal of heat (all the time) but isn't it fair to assume that a P4-M will be less hot?

  • RAM expansion on Satellite L50-B-18E

Hi, I need to expand the RAM memory on my laptop, it is a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-18E i5.
How can I do that? Do I send my laptop to some technical support office or can I do it myself?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi
According notebook specification your notebook was offered with 4GB of RAM but it can be upgraded up to 16GB.
Compatible RAM modules for your machine are:
    2GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M2G
    4GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M4G
    8GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M8G
Unfortunately this notebook model doesn't have memory cover placed at the bottom side so I think memory upgrade by notebook owner is not supported. Theoretically you can do this alone but if you remove some hardware components this will cancel the warranty so I think you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
Memory modules you can obtain on your own and just ask service to put it in the place. I cannot imagine it will be expensive.

  • Question about new BIOS on Satellite L20-182

    Hi :)
I've got one question: may I install new BIOS 2.20 on my Satellite L20-182 model no. PSL2XE?
If I can't, why users PSL2X can do this? Are there so many differences on both models?
Greetings and sorry for my English - I'n not the best :)

    Hi,
just for explanation: the bios you mentioned is the right bios for the machine. Toshiba is not writing the full model number since there is a range of model numbers of the same model, so dont worry, they are not different. Maybe the last digit but this is not important for you.
Why I am knowing this? Because many manufacturers are doing this and I was many times confused when updating bioses from another manufacturer...

  • Compatibility question about RAM

Having replaced it with 1GB RAM I am selling off the following...

4 years ago Apple was selling the 700 MHz and 800 MHz 15" G4 iMacs which are not compatible with PC2700 RAM.

  • Another Question about RAM

I bought my laptop in December of 2009.
    13" MBPro.
I have been curious about upgrading RAM since that would be one of my only ways to improve performance. I am slowly adding to this computer so I need to improve it where possible.
I saw something about the "10%" page-in and page-out idea.
My laptop was rebooted earlier today but... as of right now...
    Page-In: 474.6
    Page-Out: 305.3
Would it be worth it for me to upgrade the RAM??
    Any input is appreciated!

Page-outs should only be 10% or less of Page-ins - if you're seeing equal values then yes you need to add more RAM.
