Re: Quicktime Pro install

I have OS 10.5.8 & Quicktime Player 7.6.9. Bought QT Pro upgrade registration, entered reg # in QT prefs, restarted, but still do not see QT Pro.  What have I forgotten?  It's possible QT was on when I entered reg #.

The Pro key unlocks all the features of the QuickTime Player. There is no QuickTime Pro application.

  • Need QUICK! help for Quicktime Pro Install

I came in this morning knowing I'd be pressed for time, and that I needed to convert a WMA file to an MP3 for a meeting. I decided to use Quicktime Pro 7. I made the purchase and have been trying for a 45 minutes of precious time to get it installed but am running into one bit of crap instructions after another. First, the instructions say to go into my system preferences and click the Quicktime icon. There isn't one. Next it says to download Quicktime 7 and load Quicktime Pro as an upgrade to that. Downloaded QT7, installed and it went off into space somewhere. Not in my applications folder.
I'm running out of time. Why can't this just be an install process like any other normal program intead of making a person crazy?
    Any help would be appreciated.
Runing OS 10.6.8 on a hugely capable system.

Oh, I think I get it now. So Quicktime Pro 7 will never show up as Quicktimje Pro 7, as advertised, but will be cleverly hidden within Quicktime Player 7 so that after it is actually loaded, it will still be called Quicktime Player 7, and there will be no visually recognizeable evidence that the install was successful, unless you've experienced this before and know what to drill down & look for, which rarely is the case when a person purchases and installs a software for the first time.
Both the Registration and About windows will display the  normal QT 7 icon with the "Pro" text embedded to indicate QT 7 is properly keyed for "Pro" use, as well as, "un-greying" the "Pro" specific options in various menu windows when content is loaded/a player window has been opened. As  explained on various Apple web pages, purchasing the "Pro" key does not add any new codecs and does not download any new software. It only turns on the track/layer editing and conversion features for direct access from within QT 7 without having to purchase a full editing app like FCP. This is the way classic QT has worked for the last decade since I started using v5.
Thanks for the kind and thorough assist, though, Jon. I'll manage from here. Curious about the South Jersey Apple Users Group. I'm up at the northern border, in the lakes region, town called Ringwood.
The SJAUG primarily hosts membership throughout "South" Jersey (i.e., from Burlington County to Cape May County.) In the past, when membership was more active, we actually held meetings twice a month (Medford leas and Pine Hill School) to host a split membership. The Video SIG used to be quite active but between the split meetings, dwindling membership, aging membership (many have been members for 10-15 years and at 66, I am considered one of the younger members), and closing of the Pine Hill meeting venue (Pine Hill meeting members now usually go to the MUGSNJ at Gloucester County College), our membership and SIG activities have greatly been reduced over the last few years. In any case, we normally meet the third Saturday of each month at the Meford Leas facility just off Rt 70 in Medford. (http://www.sjaug.org)
I have not visited user groups farther north than the Princeton area. Would invite you down to the next meeting (26 Jan '13) but I'm sure there are closer groups if you are interested. Retired, my video/QT interests are promarily centered on the creating and maintaining of my own personal video library for iTunes/TV/Airvideo management/streaming of content.

  • HT3820 Quicktime pro install unsuccessful

Bought Quicktime Pro. Registered...  hit (secret) tab key. Logo changed to Pro. BUT I do not see the "Pro" logo in About QuickTime Player. AND I do not have QuickTime Pro available as far as I can see.

The registration info merely "unlocks" the Pro features found in QuickTime Player 7.
In all my years of using it I've never had to restart to use the Pro features.

  • Quicktime Pro install

Problem solved, I'm just too impatient.

There is no Pro Player. Every single download of QuickTime Player includes all of the Pro features. Nothing else to download or install.
The registration enables the Pro features and the only place you will see the word Pro is in the QT Control Panel (under your serial number).
Unregistered versions have the word Pro in a gray background on some menu items. Since yours no longer shows this you're using Pro.

  • Install Quicktime Pro?

I'm on a Macbook Pro. I have FCP v.6. My Quicktime is Player only and there are is Quicktime icon in the System Preferences. I've tried to download and install Quicktime Pro 7, but when I do I get a message saying there is already a version of Quicktime on my system and to do a Software Upgrade- that doesn't get me Quicktime Pro.
I don't have the install discs, so how do I get Quicktime Pro installed on my machine?

Thanks to Niel and the download at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923. I now have Quicktime Pro on my Macbook.
But what happened to the flv export option?

  • Help! Quicktime Pro

i purchased quicktime pro about 3 months ago from Apple.com
However, i recently had to clean out my hard drive and back everything up. obviously once i got my laptop back, i didn't have QuickTime Pro installed anymore. since i've already paid for it, how do i get it back? how do i download it again and prove that i've already purchased the software and should not need to pay for it again?

    Hi,
I am having a similar problem. I purchased QT Pro (key) and now have only QuickTime (player) on my MacBook Pro.
When I go to the QuickTime preferences, it says I have QuickTime Pro and it shows my registration key. However, every time I open QuickTime, it only shows up as "Player" and NOT Pro. None of the Pro functionality is available either. So, I tried to reinstall the QuickTimeProMediaComponent.pkg, but it stops abrputly and tells me to try and install it "again". I've tried to reinstall it again and again, and it still gives me this error.
Is there some way to download a new copy of "Pro" and use the Key I purchased from Apple to install this again, or just make it work?
    Thank you so much,
    Joel

  • QuickTime Pro - preparing movie to go on .Mac so it can be downloaded to PC

I have created a movie using different applications (i.e. iPhoto; GarageBand; iMovie; Quicktime Pro, etc.). I have it posted on my website using iWeb, and I am able to download the movie to my desktop where I can resize it to fill the screen. I would like others to be able to do this on their computers.
When I tried it out on my PC, the triangle on the lower right side of the QuickTime movie wouldn't even open. I have QuickTime Pro installed on both computers. Is there a way to save QuickTime movies to .Mac websites so that others can download them to their desktop no matter what kind of computer they have?

    Thanks for the reply.
I will take your answer step by step to make sure I understand. You said:
    1. "Saving" a QuickTime movie using the controller is a feature of the Pro upgrade so only Pro owners can save your iWeb files using the controller menus.
    My response:
My original question mentioned that on my PC I also have QuickTime Pro and yet I'm not able to activate the controller menu (I'm guessing the downward pointing triangle at the bottom right is called the controller menu - if I'm wrong please let me know). I have also told my friends who want to be able to download the movie, that they have to have QuickTime Pro.
    You also stated:
    2. Make sure your page layout in iWeb doesn't have some page element "covering" the controller part of the window.
    My response:
You are right about that. I've discovered that problem several times. It isn't an issue here, however. I also have tried several different ways to save the movie. First just using a blank page with nothing but the movie on it. Next, using the movie page with nothing but the movie on it. Also using both the .mov format (original QuickTime self-contained movie format), and the .m4v format. It still can't be downloaded to the desktop on my PC.
    You added:
    3. To allow others to keep a copy of your file merely requires you give them the direct URL to the file. They can then use any Web browser to keep a copy.
You can add this to your iWeb page as a "text based" link.
I'm not sure I understand this last piece of advice. I have the movie on a website I created through .Mac and iWeb. My friends are able to view the movie on my website. Since the width of the movie is determined by the way iWeb is set up, you can only view the movie ON the website in the width you use when you save it to iWeb. I have resized it as large as possible on the page on my website. When you are able to download a movie from a website to the desktop, however, you can resize it or "Present the movie" so it fills up the screen. You also can open it in iTunes and then convert it to play on an iPod if you wish. That is what I would like others to be able to do so long as they have QuickTime Pro.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "They can use any web browser to keep a copy." How does that allow you to download the movie to the desktop?
Thanks again for responding. If you have any thoughts to add, please send them.

  • Getting a New Computer - how do I transfer over quicktime pro?

I'm getting a new mac, and have quicktime pro installed in my current one. I can't find the original .dmg file, but I have the authorization key and purchase receipt. Will simply copying the installed quicktime file over to the new computer and uninstalling it from the old one work? Or do I have to install using the .dmg file?

    Welcome to the forums!
Your new Mac will be running Snow Leopard 10.6.
Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".
Once you have installed Quicktime Player 7 by one of the means mentioned above, just enter your authorization key and you should be good to go!

  • I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am

I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am? I need them and don't want naturally to buy them again!!!
    Thank you

Assuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product.  You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store.

  • I've lost quicktime pro and can't find it. I had to re-install my HD and now QT Pro has gone and I can't find details of when I bought it.

I'm 10.6.8 and I use a Macbook Pro. I bought QT pro a while ago and since I've re installed my stuff all I've got is QT and I need the older version (that I paid for) to edit.
Any help will be much appreciated.

It's not the player I need
QuickTime Pro is not a separate application, so you won't find it by searching your system or by looking for a download. A Pro key just unlocks the extra features of QuickTime Player and the QuickTime browser plugin. You need the QuickTime Player 7 Kirk and I have referred to; only that version can be "unlocked" with a Pro key.
I can't find that either. I've trawled my email and can't find it.
Log into your account in the Apple Store and click on the Downloadable Software Purchases link. You should find the key shown there. If not, you may need to purchase a new key.

  • Just bought Quicktime Pro, can't load into V10, but won't allow me to install V7 with V10 Present.

OK I video'd my bands latest gig on the weekends using I-Movie, but when played back on I-movie, the video / Audio are over 10 seconds out of sync.  Common Problem apparently, however on Quicktime it runs smoothly, so I was told I need to edit it in Quicktime Pro.  Easier said that done.  Quicktime Pro is only available for V7, I have V10 installed, and it will not allow me to install V7 when V10 is installed. Already paid for the rego, so not Freaking impressed with Apple having such a F..d up system in place where they do not keep the Pro version up to date with the free version.  What do I do?

There is a version of 7 that works with 10.  Does this link help?

If QuickTime Player 7 isn't in the Utilities folder automatically, you can install it separately. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3678
Instructions on how to register your QuickTime Pro key can be found in that same document.
    Regards.

  • Quicktime Pro does not install with Final Cut Studio

I have an iMac with software version 10.5.7. I installed Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut version 6.05). With other similar installations on an iMac, Quicktime Pro came as a normal part of the software. On this iMac, the Pro version of Quicktime did not get installed. Is there a way to `unlock` it? Thanks

Final Cut Studio install should "unlock" the QuickTime Player Pro features.
What makes you think you do not have it?

  • Quicktime Pro Re-install
