  • How to test anomaly detection in IPS6 ?

    Hi!
Does anybody have experience with AD in IPS6? I tried to test it today with 3 nmap sessions each scanning 100 different IPs. I saw the Sig 13003-0 (single scanner) fired:
    signature: description=AD - External TCP Scanner id=13003 version=S262
    alertDetails: . adExtraData: numDestIps=150; currentThreshold=150; destPort=80
The scanner threshold was indeed set to 150:

    Low = 10
    Medium = 3
    High = 1

This is ok. The problem is that the Sig 13003-1 (warm) didn't fire, however the number of scanned IPs was very high:

    Questions:
    - what does Low/Medium/High exactly mean in threshold histogram?
    - how does the sensor detect worms? When the Sig 13003-1 fires? What sequence of events should happen?
    - how can I test it?

The sensor constantly watches for scanners on each port.
There are 3 categories of scanners:
Low scanners - scanners that are only scanning a low number of hosts.
Medium scanners - scanners that are scanning a medium number of hosts
High scanners - scanners that are scanning a high number of hosts
NOTE: I can't remember for sure how many hosts must be scanned for it to be a "Low" number of hosts, or "Medium" or "High". But it may be something like 5 hosts scanned is a "Low" scanner, 20 for Medium and 100 for High. Once again I am not sure of those numbers.
Also be aware that the number of hosts scanned is not the Total numner of hosts scanned, but is instead the number of hosts scanned THAT did not respond.
If you connect to 100 web servers and all web servers respond then it does not count that as a scan. If you try to connect to 100 web servers and 92 respond, then for the 8 that don't respond you would be categorized as a Low scanner.
But just because a scanner is counted in a category does not mean an alert will be generated.
There are 2 types of alerts (subsig 0 alerts, and subsig 1 alerts)
Subsig 0 alerts are for a scanner that is scanning enough hosts that you want an alert for it even when no worm has been declared.
This is the "scanner Threshold / User Configuration = 150" that you see in the "show ad-knowledge-base vs0 thresholds current" output.
If a scanner scans more than 150 hosts then a specific alert is generated even though no worm has been declared.
Any scanners scanning less than 150 hosts are still categorized but do not have alerts generated for them when no worm has been declared.
The subsig 1 alerts are for when a Worm has been declared.
Here is how a worm gets declared:
The Thesholds for Low, Medium, and High that you see in "show ad-knowledge-base vs0 thresholds current" is the number of active scanners in each category that are allowed to normally be seen on your network (this is the number of scanners that will be seen on your network even when there are no worms).
A worm gets declared when the number of scanners in any one of the 3 catgeories goes above the threshold for that category.
Let's take for example Medium=3 as the threshold for port 21. And let's assume it takes a scan of 20 hosts to be categorized as a Medium scanner.
This means normally you could have up to 3 scanners on your network where each scanner is scanning 20 or more non-responding hosts on port 21.
(Maybe these are 3 network administrators periodically checking to see which machines have port 21 open)
Suddenly you have 5 scanners that start scanning on port 21 and each of the 5 winds up with 20 or more non-responding hosts.
That 5 has broken the threshold of 3, and a worm is declared. Now any Medium Category scanner on port 21 will begin being declared a scanner under a worm condition (subsig 1).
    So for your testing.
Instead of running a scan of 100 hosts from just one machine, I would recommend you scan the same 100 hosts from 2 or 3 machines (NOTE: Only need to scan a single port across those 100 hosts).
Scanning 100 hosts should get them categorized as High scanners. And having 3 High Scanners should push it over the threshold of 1.
BUT keep in mind that it needs to be 100 hosts not responding on the scanned port.
Then you will also want to try it with fewer hosts being scanned (like say 25), but with say 5 machines running nmap doing the scanning.

  • Powerbook Duo 280: power questions

I'm interested in buying a particular PB Duo 280 (might even be a 280c) on eBay. The Duo comes with a Dock, but no AC adapter of its own and the battery is down to single digit minutes of life.
So, what I want to clarify is which adapter I can safely use without frying the Duo. I've seen specific Duo adapters, but these command a higher price on eBay (I'm in the UK, where vintage Apple tech is that little bit rarer/more expensive). Am I right in thinking that a G3 adapter would work OK? I have a G4 iBook 45W adapter, but I gather that wouldn't be compatible.
Moving on to batteries... As a noob at this sort of thing, is recelling a battery something I might want to attempt?
Thanks for reading and any help is appreciated.
    Regards
    Gareth

"Am I right in thinking that a G3 adapter would work OK? I have a G4 iBook 45W adapter, but I gather that wouldn't be compatible."
The thing that is important is the diameter of the DC output cable connector. If the diameter is the same, it should work.
"...is recelling a battery something I might want to attempt?"
    Not in a million years.

  • Verizon Edge: Fully Explained, Plus a few questions

At first glance Verizon Edge sound good, with a second look it seems to be a huge scam, but with enough research it seems it depends on the scenario.
This document excludes information regarding new customers who haven't had 6 months of good payment etc.
This document makes some assumptions which are located at the bottom in the form of questions to be answered by a Verizon representative.
The Basic Shared Plan, Subsidized phones and how it all works.
    The Plan
Unlimited talk and text have become a given with Verizon, so it all comes down to data. The way the plans work are quite simple, there is a set price for the pool of data, For example my family has 6GB of data for $80. The price increases or decreases by $10 per 2GB(Not including very small amounts or large amounts) --- 10GB is $100, we'll use this number later.
After that you pay a flat price per device depending on the device(All devices use data from the same pool - when the data runs out you're charged $15 per 1GB over(rounded up to the next GB -- 4.05 rounds up to 5GB) or you have the option to upgrade your plan by 2GB for $10 more a month.
Smartphones are $40/month, basic phones are $30/month, tablets and other devices are $10/month
    The Phone
The typical subsidized smartphone is $200 when you sign up for a 2 year contract. This price can vary with special offers or more expensive versions of phones(ex: 64GB iPhone over the 16GB one)
So you just got a $600 phone for $200, but that doesn't make the phone a $200 phone, and that doesn't mean you only payed $200 either, the other $400 is technically still payed for by you.
The remainder of the phone cost is nested within the monthly flat-rate access charge.
$400 over 24 months = ~$16.67 (of the $40) per month is actually going towards the phone.YOU ALWAYS PAY THE FULL PRICE OF THE PHONE WHETHER YOU KNEW IT OR NOT.
The difference, whether you have your own phone or are month to month you will pay $40 access fee a month no matter what, so if you're not getting a subsidized phone every 2 years you're giving Verizon more money in a way.
Total Cost with the Shared Plan
    1 Person with 10GB Data($100 + $40) x 24months + $200 = $3,560
    2 People with 10GB Data
    ($100 + ($40 x 2)) x 24months + ($200 x 2) = $4,720
    3 People with 10GB Data
    ($100 + ($40 x 3)) x 24months + ($200 x 3) = $5,880
Verizon Edge (Check bottom for assumptions and questions.)
You still have unlimited talk and text and the data works the same way all for the exact same prices.
The monthly access charge for each device is where things change.
If you have 8GB of data in your pool or less, this charge is reduced by $10 ($40 --> $30)
If you have 10GB of data in your pool or more, this charge is reduced by $25($40 --> $15)In most cases it is cheaper to have 10GB while in the Verizon Edge program than to have less.If you have a really low amount of data or only have 1 or 2 people in your plan this may not be a good option for you.
These reduced prices only apply while you are still making payments on a Verizon Edge phone.
You do not pay a subsidized price for a phone although you are saving the same amount or more through the reduced access charge.
You will pay the full retail price of a phone over 24 months with no down payment. (ex: $600 phone = $25/month)
Total Cost with Verizon Edge (assuming 10GB and a $600 phone)
    1 Person($100 + ($15 + $25)) x 24months = $3,360
    2 People($100 + (($15 + $25) x 2)) x 24months = $4,320
    3 People($100 + (($15 + $25) x 3)) x 24months = $5,280
    What's Good About It?
If you have a 10GB plan or higher(Or upgrade to it), and your phone is $600:Your monthly cost will be EXACTLY the same..
    How do you benefit then?
You save the $200 you payed for a phone each 2 years.
You can change phones once a year instead of every two years and still have the same monthly cost as you do without Edge.
If you 'Edge Up' early you have to finish paying up to 50% of the phones cost right then(Normally payed off by 1 year)
    Edging UpWhen you 'Edge up':
50% or more of your phones total cost must have been payed off and it must be at least 30 days since the last Edge up.Typically a year or longer in unless you pay the remainder of the 50% at the time you Edge up
You must return your current Edge phone.
This phone must be in good condition as determined by Verizon.Or there will be a Fee
Must be Returned within 14 days of Edging upOr there will be a Fee
Switching to Verizon Edge (While in contract)
    Requirements for eligibility:
Contract must be from before 11/13/13
    Offer to switch expires 6/30/14
You must turn in your current Verizon phone(Subsidized phone on your current contract)
Like I said early, in the basic plan you technically pay for the other $400(more or less) through your monthly access charge.
In order to recoup this money they want the phone back.
In most cases this is at a lost to the customer, for example,
    $600 phone, $200 paid, $16.67/month toward the $400 after.
I'm 16 months completed which means I payed an estimated $466.67 of the $600 phone
    Questions
I assumed there isn't but: Is there monthly financing fee?
    Any other minor fee?
Do you pay the ~$30 activation fee when Edging up as you normally do when upgrading phones?
What happens once you've payed the full cost of the phone?
I understand that you no longer get the reduced monthly access charge.
My question is, if you payed off the full cost, do you have to return the phone anyway?
If your phone is not eligible to trade back(Damaged or other)
If you want to edge up which scenario is true:
There is a fee because the phone is damaged
You have to pay the full cost of your current phone(rather than 50%)
    other
    When switching to Verizon Edge:
If you choose not to give back your current phone or it is not in returnable condition what happens?
    I heard it's a $200 charge?
The remaining balance on my current phone would be $133.33 ($600 - $466.67) would that be the charge?
You are not eligible for switching to Verizon Edge?

A few corrections to your post.
When "edging up" you CAN pay the extra to get you to 50% of the cost of the phone. This information is from the Edge FAQ, #2 under "Contract and Payment Plan"
Can I pay more than my scheduled monthly Verizon Edge installment?
No, unless you are either seeking to Edge Up to a new device, which requires that at the time of the Edge Up transaction you pay at least 50% of the device following the initial 30 days of the Verizon Edge Agreement; or you are seeking to pay off 100% of your Verizon Edge Agreement, which you may do at any time.
For your point in #3, at least currently, you may be able to do an "Early Edge" if you are currently under contract. From #4 under "General Information". While it simply states you must return the phone on the line when placing your Edge order, I assume you must return the phone purchased when signing your current contract.
What is Early Edge Open Enrollment?
Early Edge Open Enrollment is a limited-time option to participate in the Verizon Edge program. You can get your choice of the latest smartphone sooner than you would under a traditional 2-yr contract.
If you’ve had your current phone since 2/1/14, you may be eligible to purchase a 4G LTE smartphone through the Verizon Edge program. You’ll pay for your phone in monthly payments.
To be eligible for Early Edge, you must meet all the following:
    Be eligible for Verizon Edge
Have had your phone since 2/1/14 or longer
Return your phone in good working condition*
The Early Edge Open Enrollment option will be available 2/13/14 - 6/30/14.
Note: You must return the phone that was on your line at the time you placed your Verizon Edge order, and it must be returned to Verizon Wireless within 14 days of receiving your new phone. If you do not, you may be charged a non-return fee of up to $200.
Also, your last statement is only valid if the phone active on the line is the phone you purchased when entering into the Edge agreement. You can only Edge Up by returning the phone you purchased on the Edge agreement(or authorized replacement phone such as warranty replacement or insurance replacement). You cannot purchase a smartphone, subsequently activate a basic phone on the Edge line and then return the basic phone when Edging up simply because it is the active phone on the line Edging Up.
Also from the Edge FAQ, #2 & #4 under "Edge Up and Returns"
What are the eligibility requirements to Edge Up with Verizon Edge?
To be eligible to Edge Up, you must:
Have had your Edge phone for at least 30 days
Have paid at least 50% of the full retail price of the phone
Return the Edge phone in good working condition with no significant damage, as determined by Verizon Wireless
How do I Edge Up when I'm ready?
There are three ways that you can Edge Up:
Bring your original Edge phone (or authorized replacement) to a Verizon Wireless retail location where a representative will help you complete the Edge Up process.
Complete the Edge Up process online using My Verizon.
Call Customer Service at 1-800-922-0204 and they’ll help you complete the Edge Up process over the phone.
Beginning April 13th, you’ll be able to complete the Edge Up process at select Verizon Wireless authorized retailers.
If your previous phone is an iPhone with iOS 7, you must disable Find My iPhone prior to sending it back. To disable Find My iPhone:
    Tap Settings.
    Tap iCloud.
    Tap Find My iPhone.
You’ve successfully disabled Find My iPhone.
Note: If you use My Verizon or Customer Service, you’ll need to ship your original Edge phone (or authorized replacement) back using the shipping label provided by Verizon Wireless when you complete the Edge Up process. You’ll be billed for the new phone when you Edge Up. However, once it’s determined by Verizon Wireless that your original Edge phone was returned in good working order, you will receive a credit back for the remainder owed on the original Edge phone.

  • Load Balancing question

My company is in the process of building a small scale network architecture strictly for testing purposes. We have a DMZ area that contains 2 load balancers and 1 web server. The web server is a SunFire 280 and has two gig e nics. They want to cable one nic to one load balancer and one nic to the other. Since this is only one box we have to put the nics on separate subnets. The question is, can I configure the load balancers in a failover situation of an active active situation with one load balancer on one vlan and another load balancer on a separate vlan.

I did not able to understand why you want to give ip to two NICs from different subnets.
There is NO any requirement, like that. If you have your own requirement can you explain me that?

  • Buying iPod touch 2g - have 6 questions

    Tomorrow most likely. The 16gb. $280 ($20 off at Wal-Mart 8-)
Don't really care about the rumored iPod Touch 3rd gen; as the 2nd gen will be able to download the 3.0 software. I wouldn't use the camera anyways as it would probably only be 4 megapixels or less, and I have a 8 megapixel digital camera.
    Well, here are my questions.
1.) Since it is bluetooth compatible, will I be able to use my headset as a microphone to record college lectures? I would place the headset near the professor if he allows it. I know it doesn't have a built in mic.
2.) Hard case reccomendations? I heard good things about the Tumi T-Tech case. Id like for it not to hamper any of the functions.
3.) Im going to convert AVI movie files to MP4 movie files. There should be no hassle porting those to the Ipod right?
4.) Will I be able to drag my Mp3 song files into the folder which contains the songs? Or do I have to use iTunes. I feel that it is easier this way when you download from other music purchase programs.
5.) If Apple does announce the new iPod touch within the next month, does that mean it will be out on shelves? Or that the features have just been announced?
6.) Finnaly, screen protectors. I heard that you really don't need one. It's not like I would ever put it in my pocket with keys. What do you think?
    THANKS for ANY help!

just to add my opinions: (i think the above post covers 1-3)
4.) as Nocturnal says, you have to use iTunes. the iPod touch doesn't have a disk mode like other ipods, so the 'drag and drop' method which worked before will not work.
5.) thought you weren't that bothered about it? lol. i would imagine they'll announce it before it is released. that's usually what happens isn't it? educated guess, we're looking at early september (that's when the last two gens have come out) if there is to be a new release. put it this way, i upgraded to an 8GB touch from a 4GB nano, before they brought in the app store. if it was just down to my music and podcasts, 8GB would be plenty, but now i'm seriously starting to think i need that extra space! but i won't be buying just yet.
6.) i didn't bother with one, messed up putting it on, so just gave in. over a year later and i don't regret it. the back is a bit scratched, but that doesn't worry me greatly. i use a silicon case from http://www.exspect.co.uk/, it's starting to look a bit ragged (edges are splitting a little), but it does the job perfectly adequately for what i want.
hope you enjoy your ipod touch experience, it really is an amazing toy!

  • I posted question but still haven't got problem solved, please help

I have a table which has two columes
    time- timestamp
    value- integer
I have problem writing query to get rolling up cumulative of value for time buckets
    Wanted results like following:
like cumulative value for rolling 5 minutes time bucket for past 1 hour
    If current time is 8:51:00
    value cumulative value
    8:51:00 3 256
    8:46:00 4 253
    8:01:00 3 14
    7:56:00 6 11
    7:51:00 5 5
user want the time bucket can set to 5min, 1 hours, 1 day
and the data can be refreshed every 1 min. Is there some way we can get live rolling time bucket like
if currenct time is 3/18/2006 11:07:23 am, the interval(Time bucket) send to 1 hour. Results like following
    count(*) interval interval3
    187 88 3/18/2006 10:07:00 AM
    280 87 3/18/2006 09:07:00 AM
    34 86 3/18/2006 08:07:00 AM
1 mins later. time is 3/18/2006 11:07:23 am. refresh data, the result like
    count(*) interval interval3
    188 88 3/18/2006 10:08:00 AM
    282 87 3/18/2006 09:08:00 AM
    36 86 3/18/2006 08:08:00 AM
    Is it possible?
    Thanks a lot
    previous question link
Re: Help about rolling cumulative sum in time bucket

The referenced thread had a much better subject line.
Question can the number of required buckets that are brought back be limited to say 12? If you can limit the result set to a fixed number of buckets then you should be able to just use a group by on a case statement with a little date/time math in it. That is you would be able to calculate the time boundries from the present and then compare the row data timestamps to the boundries.
With a variable number of buckets you would need to find the difference in the desired units (5 min, 1 hour, days ? 24 hours) between the current_timestamp and the oldest timestamp in the data. You would then need to calculate the boundries and compare the data. Doing all this would be more resource intensive than the group by the case test.

  • Handful of saved up questions

As before, G5 Mac, last version of Tiger, GoLive 7.
With help here I think I've solved the table/cells template page to show thumbnails of portfolio pieces which will link to larger versions. All base-align on the left.
These are my remaining questions which I've saved to put in one query:
    1. To move type from the edges of a cell, I go to Type > Alignment > Increase Block indent--which is supposed to increase it "incrementally." The increment I get is gigantic and I see no control for adjusting it. Is there?
    2. Each cell in my table, now 4 rows x 4 columns, has a thin black border which looks fine in Layout view and in two browsers so far. I have no idea how I ended up with a fine black cell outline but I am happy to keep it. If I place a thumbnail that does not fill the height of the cell, is there a way to move the outline down from the top of the cell to the top of the thumbnail?
    3. I am showing my work in different categories. If category X, say, Ads, has 13 items, my page of 16 cells shows three, outlined, empty cells. I have found NO way to delete 1, 2, or 3 cells, but only a whole row. (I can cheat by putting a "message" in a blank cell but I'd rather just delete the empty ones.) Can I delete individual cells? How?
    4. What I read suggests that in a template I can't change anything. I doubt that's true. But if I open a new page from a 16-cell template, can I still bring in new thumbnails into the cells on that page?
Oops!--I tried it. I get a message saying that there are no "editable" parts of the template. Must I select each of the 16 cells, or maybe the table as a unit and mark it as editable? Or should I just save it as regular page and dupe it as I need it and forget the whole template thing?
    5. In a few test cases, the cell is 152 pxl tall, the art is 153, says the Inspector. Yet the art does not go all the way to the top of the cell. Speak of counterintuitive! What am I doing wrong?
    Related, and last:
    6. If I simply drag a thumbnail into a cell, for some reason, it sits in the bottom of the cell, that is, the top of the thumbnail is near the bottom of the cell. If I wait a second, the full thumbnail pops up and fills the cell properly. I can live with this weirdness. But can I avoid it?

  • Questions about smart objects in CS3-CS5.

    Hi.
    Two questions.
When I replace content of smart object in CS2 the content takes the size of previous state of smart object in pixels.
It was very useful when need to replace some background to another and it autoresized to the new size and proportion.
For example, when I replace content of smart object with external size 100x90px and 100x90% proportion (can see with Ctrl-T) with file with 200x300px size, i have new smart object with old size 100x90px and new proportion 50x30%.
When I try to do the same in CS3-CS5 I get smart object with size 160x216px and proportion 100x90%.
Haw can I return the old behaviour?
    Second.
In CS2 I use files with a lot of smart objects each of them may consists with some others smart objects and so on.
But i can`t use this scheme in CS3-CS5 because of very high consumption of scratch memory.
Very-very simple example. In CS2 create file 4000x3000px, create new layer and draw there black square 300x300px.
Convert the "square" layer to smart object. Then duplicate it with Ctlt-J 30 times. Save the file and reopen.
The scratch size is about 280 MB and practically not changing when moving layers with movetool.
Open this file in CS5. The scratch size is about 2.5 GB and quickly increase to 5 GB and above when i try to move layers. And this is a very simple file.
If i will try to open several such files in CS5 the amount of useing memory will be fantastic.
Why there is such behaviour whis memory in cs3-cs5 photoshops?
PS. sorry for my english. hope you understand me.

    Hi,
What version of Ps and AI are you using?
    1. In Ps, there's no controls for the AI layer visibilty, but the visibility attributes should be respected.
    2. The placed file is an embedded copy, not a link to an external file. However, there is a script that you might find useful for your purposes. I'm not sure if the Win support improved with CS5.

  • Upgrade and questions

I have bought a MSI R9 280, I was wondering if it is okay to put heat sinks on this and still be okay by the warranty because I was going to put a Kraken G10 on and putting a better 92mm fan and was gonna put heat sinks on the vram and memory and was wondering if it is safe to put them on because of the warranty and my other questions is where can I get heat sinks that will fit on with this bracket?

Theoretically cooler can be replaced BUT it needs to be possible to undo any modification before sending for rma else it will not be accepted. Hence the original cooler must be mounted when returning the card. That leads to a massive problem with aftermarket vrm and memory coolers that will be glued on the components to be cooled. These can usually not be removed without damage. Warranty would therefor be void in such a situation. Also any physical damage or irreversible modification caused in the installation process or damage caused by the use of the aftermarket cooler will void warranty.
If you want to know for sure contact MSI tech support: >>How to contact MSI.<<

  • SX 280 - The Life and Times of the Lowly Battery

I know there is another thread about the battery issues on this camera.  I have even posted there, but that thread is long and Canon seems to have forgetten about its issues with the battery.  So, here is a new thread that will hopefully get Canon's attention.  I do think they decided that the issue is closed after the latest firmware "fix," but it still is a problem.  So, ...
Canon, please convince me to keep the SX 280.  Please tell me that the latest firmware change to 1.0.2 was only one step in the process of resolving the poor battery life and hasty shutdown during the recording modes.
Do you monitor battery levels differently in picture mode and recording mode?  It sure seems like it. You definitely display different levels.  Is the level displayed in each mode an anticipated level and not a true level of power remaining?  If this isn't the case, then I do not understand why the levels are very different in the picture-taking and video-recording modes.  If the battery level starts flashing red (low battery warning) in the video mode, it should be flashing red in picture mode.  Instead, we see the battery level display fully charged or partially charged when switching to the picture mode from the flashing red of the video mode.
Zooming puts a drain on the battery.  No argument here.  But, I think that what the camera is doing is monitoring the battery level during a zoom and if it sees the battery level drop below some line, it triggers the red-flashing or shuts off the camera.  I think that the camera should allow the zoom to complete, THEN check the battery level. It might not be that low.  Of course this only seems to be an issue during recordin mode.
The battery gets quite warm, almost hot.  I wonder if battery life "improves" when used in cooler temperatures.
I am not sure if I am going to keep the camera.  I am hoping that Canon opens it eyes and ears and uses its intelligence to really determine the cause of the battery problem and FIX IT.  For now, Costco's excellent return policy will allow me to test this camera a bit longer.  My tests actually show a respectable amount of battery life, but there is still a problem in the video recording mode.  I am not much into video recording, but if I have it, I expect it to work.  It would really be nice to know how much battery power is remaining when doing anything on this camera.  I just want ONE BATTERY LEVEL that is displayed the same while in any camera mode.

I hope the above article will help you guys..

  • Questions for mister, Tiresmoke

    Hello, all
In the dutch forum of msi we have a conversation going on about the Ballistix memory modules but it seems now that the Ballistix PC4000 version 2x 512 doesnt work with 1t on the msi k8t bios 9.1
    it all started here, http://forum-d.msi.com.tw/index.php?topic=1967.0
i got myself pc4000 ballistix but they aint working on 1t not on normal speeds neither on overclocked speeds upping or lowering voltages doesnt make a single difference. only when i set my dram speed on 100 x2 so in dual channel 200 mhz it works.
Iam a overclocker and was able to push my venice cpu from 1.8 ghz to 2.5 i reached the highest possible fsb of 280 x 9 ( but i had to lower the memory to drr 266) aswell the ht (ive tested aswell 7 hours on prime and, stable). Now my question is why cant i use 1t ? is this is a fault of msi the bios 9.1 or is my memory simple being bad? (wich i cant believe but ok)
atm i have timings of 2.5 4 4 10 2t and that on 251 mhz so 1 mhz above the normal speed. i wasnt able to use 1t on any speed except the drr 100 which is silly to use in my opinion. so basicly if i wouldnt overclock my cpu i would of lost performance big time over my old memory modules since i was able to get 6000 score in sisoft on memory bandwith and that with pc3200 twinmos sp, not that it was stable i had to lower it abit so i came on 5300 or something but now i reach about 5700 5800 in sisoft and 6200 in everest iam disappointed because i expected 1t to work.
    any idea here?
oh and btw before i forget ui30 sended me here and i had to wish you aswell greetings

its more complicated then that ive used 1t on 2x 512 twinmos but on this memory it doesnt work proper crashes at the moment i see my windows desktop and if i use drr100 it doesnt and there are more ppl out there that have the same problem with the venice and other high quality memory modules. it simple aint stable enough to handle the 1t timing and that does sound to something bios related. maybe its aswell the chipset or the integrated memory controller of the venice i dont know, but is there something going on @ msi when it comes to a new bios on memory timings and such?

  • Table cell - text formatting question

Can't seem to find how to do this. I changed the marging of
the box to 5 pixels. That only seems to effect a sentence after a
hard-break. It does not effect soft-breks/returns.
I'd like every line in the cell to be 3 pixels from the left
    border.
    Thx!

Not enough. Code from Main.css please.

  • I7 CPU Question

    Hi Everyone,
I've been reading these forums for quite awhile and taking in all the great advice and answers.  I now have a question regarding processors.  I understand the opinion that under the current price points, the i7 920 is a superior buy than the 940.  Because the hefty price differences don't justify the limited gain one gets with the 940.  My question is this, Frys has the 940 on sale for about $330 and currently the price I see on the 920 on places like newegg is $280.  Given the $50 difference is it worth it to buy the 940 or is overclocking the 920 still the way to go? (I'm not worried about spending the extra 50 bucks, but more curious if I should).  I picked one up since they stopped production on them and quantities were limited, but I have two weeks to return it.
I'm going to build a new computer over the next couple of weeks, and then plan on swapping out the cpu when the new versions come out later this year and drop in price (assuming they are compatible with the x58 motherboard, which I believe I read they would be).  But for now, I need a faster setup than my Q6600, 64 bit vista, 8 GB.  The rendering times on some of my projects are killing me.
I primarily work in Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects, both CS4 versions.  Most of the videos I create are either industrial for DVD / Web or web videos created with green screen.  I also make short films for film festivals.
    Any opinions would be appreciated.
    Take care,
    David

That Fry's ad is a day behind in my East coast area.  $329.99 is a super deal.  Fry's also has a Cooler Master case, Elite 341 Mid Tower on sale for $14.99 after a $10 mail-in rebate.  This case is listed on Newegg.com for $50.
While I was at Fry's yesterday I saw a computer with a large LED touch screen. I did a search for a hi-def *WMV on this system. The playback was amazingly vibrant and sharp on the clip that I found.
I wonder if an LED would be a good choice for a video editing reference monitor. I noticed in the TV section at Fry's that the Samsung 55" LED's have a picture so sharp and clear that motion picture level special effects look less realistic.

  • Newb here witha few questions.

Not a newb to macs but to my powerbook. I had a Powermac G3 all in one beige with 384 MEGS of ram, 9.2 OS and a factory speed of 233 MGHZ clocked to 280 and 4 GIG HD and CD drive. It since died a few years ago when the power unit/supply...i am guessing, crapped out. I now just purchased a Lombard 400 MGHZ powerbook G3 DVD/CD, with 64 MEGS of ram and a 6 gig HD. There is some things i need to get for it...ram, batteries and a bigger hardrive but i am happy with it. I am running 10.2 on it right now and REALLY need more memory. I am about to install 9.2 on it as well. My question is the PC slot on the left side, what can go there? I know the 333MGHZ Lombards use a DVD decoder there but mine does not since its built in. What sorta things can go there? Also i have a 10.3 CD here...should i install it as wellor will it make it run slower since i only have the 64 MEGS right now.
