  • MSI Radeon R9 270X GAMING 4GB and GOP UEFI vBios Flash?

I'm thinking about getting a MSI Radeon R9 270X GAMING 4GB for my HTPC since it's kind of shorter and was wondering if MSI provides a GOP UEFI flash for it or if it's capable of doing so?
    Thank you.

the card has 2 VBIOS's and some have one that is Legacy and another that is GOP already (others have a Legacy and a LN2) so its a 50/50 if it has it out the box!
if it doesn't there will probably be one available as the Rx - 2xx have been around a while now!

  • MSI 270X Gaming troubles!(black screen on boot/Fan speed on max)

Hello. I bought a brand new videocard - MSI 270X Gaming. But I got troubles with the computer boot. I start the computer, i got the greenting sound of Windows 7(everything's work), but i don't have anything on the screen - pitch black! And the fan speed is max. That's it!!! In order to make it work, I'm suppose to unplug the card from the PCI-e slot and put in back in. When i do this, it work fine... until the next time I have to turn on my computer. Again the same story. Only removing and putting back the card in the PCI slot works. I updated my MB Bios to latest ver. - don't work. Clear CMOS - don't work.
To make sure the problem is in the card, not in the PC, i'v putted another videocard and it's working nice
So guys if you have any ideas how to make this card work fine, please tell me. My other option is to return it to the store!

oki, have you tried to switch the card vbios to the other one and to see how it goes?
OK, didin't do that. If it not removing my warranty, tell me how to do it?! Please!

  • [HELP] R9 270X Gaming 2GB OC - Gray Screen of Death

    Hello.
I bought an R9 270X Gaming OC seven days ago, and at first here is my hardware:
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400
    ASUS P5QC
    4GB DDR3
    WD 1TB CAVIAR BLACK
    Corsair CX500
I'm using Windows 8.1 64 bits, and my last VGA as one NVIDIA, so here is What i've done to install the R9 270X:
-Removed NVIDIA drivers and turn computer off.
-Removed the VGA and installed the R9 270X.
-Removed any remaining folder/registry from the NVIDIA.
    -Installed Catalyst 14.12.
In the first three days with the VGA, when playing games [Dying Light or even older games such as Age of Emprires II] the R9 worked fine, but if I try to watch a video [online or downloaded] the GSOD happened, the same happened when using Skype. Also, returning from sleep mode made the screen turn black and nothing shows on screen, sometimes the entire system freezes and I need to manual restart the computer, others even with black screen, If I pressed the power button the system turn off without issues. Tried running Benchmarks to make the GSOD, but after 3 hours, nothing happened... then tried to watch many youtube videos and after 1 hour the GSOD happened.
After reading some topics about this problem, I made a few things to try stop the GSOD:
-Removed 14.12 with DDU and installed 15.4 beta
-Use HDMI input or R9 instead of the DVIs
-Set computer to High Performance on Windows Control Painel.
Doing these 3 steps above, the GSOD disapeared from the third day until today [seven day] when it just happened freezing the entire computer a little before I come here post this.
I read somewhere too that increasing the CPU Vcore could fix the problem.
I know my CPU is not the ideal for the R9 270X, and I'm planning on getting a FX 6300.
    S/N: 602 V303 180B1409087XXX (if necessary, I post the last 3 digits)
My motherboard doesn't support UEFI and I don't tried switch the R8 BIOS.
    My current BIOS in attachment.
     Pitcairn.rar (95.09 kB - downloaded 9 times.)
So... what could be the problem?
If i'm missing some information or something wrong, pardon me, and sorry por bad english. I'm bit of desperate here to fix the problem or accepting I will need to RMA the card [before the time expires]

Testing another operating system is a good place to start since you do not have another PSU or another system, or any other hardware to test on.
If I were you I would install Ubuntu to a USB or DVD and run that. Then, try to get the same GSOD. If it happens in the OS then you know its not a Windows problem or setting
Also, Windows 8.1 (I run it on my gaming rig too) has a problem with the way the sleep settings work. Even when turned off/deactivated, it still can be problematic. My motherboard still gets readings about unstable sleep mode even though its off.
If you decide to run Ubuntu from a USB or DVD you can try to get the GSOD by repeating your behavior BEFORE installing the AMD drivers and then again after installing them. Now, if you get the same GSOD then you know its a hardware issue.
Question: Are you using Afterburner? If so, have you turned off all of the graphics overdrive options in Catalyst?
I'm not using Afterburner, and I don't activated AMD OverDrive yet.
Strange is that, with my old low profile graphic card, sleep worked without any issues.
I will try Ubuntu then to see what happens.
Also, I've made some progress. Since my last reply on this topic, I've done some things and until today no other GSOD or white screen happened:
    1) Deactived hardware acceleration on Chrome (no more GSOD on Youtube)
    2) Repaired system with sfc /scannow, scanned for malware and removed them.
    3) Switched BIOS in the graphics card.
Also, one day when I turn my computer on, the keyboard act strange like the Enter button is pressed many times, and it's not a Windows issue because even on BIOS if i acess it I cannot do nothing because if I press left for example, the enter comes and open submenu, if I do esc the enter opens it again. On Windows if I try to open one icon, for example, it opens endless times what i've cliked like I've entered enter.
So, I just switched Keyboard USB port, and it's all okay now.
Is there any possibily that could be the BIOS in R9 with some bug?

  • R9 270x 2gb Gaming Edition OC - Black Screen Issue

So I've had this card for almost a year and it was working fine until recently. The screen started going black while gaming and started happening faster and faster. The monitor essentially loses connection. I know that people have already posted about this exact problem, but I need some help. At first the problem appeared to be fixed when I unplugged my computer for a bit and then plugged it back in (I was just unplugging it to take the side panel off) but for some reason it fixed the problem. However just the other day the problem occurred again and I can't seem to fix it this time. I've tried 2 different monitors, 1 HDMI and 1 DVI, and so I know it's not that. I just downloaded 2 different drivers, one is amd_14.4)v78.zip and the other is AMD_13101_78_vga.zip are these going to help or just make the problem worse. I can't post all of the useful information right now but I know that I've got a AMD FX 6300 processor, 8gb of G.Skill RAM, and a MSi mb, running Windows 7 64bit. Again, sorry for the lack of information including BIOS and all that. I'll post that later but I really need some help. I have yet to try the card in a different computer, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to but at this point I'm pretty sure it's the card. Not sure why the problem is just starting to occur, I may have installed some drivers recently, I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

test the card in another machine to isolate the issue and to verify if the card is faulty
Well I can't really and I'm 98% sure it is indeed the card due to the fact that there have been a decent amount of people with the same problem. Some people believe it's a driver problem, which seems possible. It was fine for a bit but just today it happened again. So I'm not sure why the problem is so inconsistent.

  • Where to buy MSI R9 270X Gaming 4GB ?

Is it available ? Limited Edition ?
Newegg has no stocks they only have the 2GB version

It is a normal card (no limited Edition) but most likely the demand for 4GB cards of that class is not that high therefor less sellers have them in stock than they would have with normal 2GB versions. Also it is a pretty new product.

Well here we go on Premiere Pro CUDA vs OpenCL debate.  Today I ran the CC 2014 (Premiere 8.0.1.21) comparison of the R9-280X and the GTX 770 SC.  Here are my results:
    "25","103","27","502", Premiere Version:, 8.0.1.21   GTX 770       907 seconds
    "25","117","48","502", Premiere Version:, 8.0.1.21   R9-280X        906 seconds
The first numbers are the Disk I/O tests and have no bearing here.  The second number is the GPU accelerated H.264 timeline and you can see a small difference in favor of the CUDA card, incidentally the un-accelerated times for CPU only are 907 and 906 due to our +/- a few seconds Windows time base of a 1 second clock
The real test of GPU acceleration is the third set of numbers from our MPEG2-DVD export of AVCHD video a major difference of 27 to 48 seconds.  This is slightly better than my CC test which was 27 to 52 seconds, hence the comment that it was only half as good
I chose the R9-280X as being the closest specification wise to the D700 and the D500 that I could obtain.   If you decide to go with the R9 series I did notice that with the H.264 timeline which has three 4K clips that it uses much more video RAM that the CUDA cards do for the same exercise.  My R9-280X had only 3 GB of RAM but I have no way of knowing that if that was a limiting factor.  My  GTX 770 had only 2 GB and it did not use all of that at any time

  • How to How to install ATI Radeon HD2600 driver on bootcamp 3.0 windows 7 partition w/black screen problem

Ok....so i've posted this question in a different way, and i gotten several "scratch the surface" answers from people just saying to install "Ati catalyst", or insert the os x dvd and run set up.exe, and update  to boot camp 3.1 or 3.2...while these all seem like great suggestions, I am finding myself needing more specific direction or "hand holding" so to speak.....here is the MAIN problem...
    The Background/history
I used boot camp (3.0, and i found updates for 3.1 for imac and for windows, but can't find for mac pro, AND they all are ".exe" files which run on windows..which as you'll see is the big part of my problem...So I recently updated my mac pro (with the ATI Radeon HD2600 graphic PCIe card with 10.6.7 from 10.5.8.  I created a single partitioned drive to install windows 7 professional 64 bit.  The download software function didn't work (Thanks, APPLE for that poor level of support) so have to select the option that i have already downloaded, or have other media with the drivers already on it....i restarted with the windows 7 disk in....
The installation of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
So the installation of windows 7 seemed to go flawlessly, was able to use my existing 23" hd apple cinema display (so somehow it has drivers that work with the graphics card, or maybe the motherboard's on board video components) and i select english, and install now, custom, blah, blah, blah...installation causes a few reboots, then restarts ultimately back in os x since that is the default boot os i use on this desk top and have to do the "opt" button to select booting in windows....so when i try restarting in windows, now using the actual boot drive on which i am installing it, it ran through another reboot or two, but then after that, my display goes black....  in the communities, the solution sounds super simple... "go download the ATI catalyst for the black screen problem....windows 7 doesn't have device drivers that work with the ATI radeon hd2600...no problem, just go download and install...."
The problem, re-emphasized :  I cannot even finish the install for windows, because of this driver problem....i cannot see anything....I have tried to reboot in safe mode, and that then seems to invoke whatever basic drivers that do work, likely through the motherboards onboard video vs the actual graphic card, and the screen works and says that it's wanting to complete the installation, so i'm thinking awesome this is gonna work....and then.. "windows installation was not completed and cannot be completed in SAFE MODE, need to restart, blah, blah, blah" pops up...and forces reboot...so Safe Mode allows me to see, but won't allow me to finish the install of windows 7...and without completing the install i can't run (ranther I DONT KNOW HOW TO) any of the various .exe files everyone is telling me are the solutions to my problem...like update 3.1 and 3.2 bootcamp...they're all .exe files?  not sure why, because bootcamp runs in 10.6.7 i thought, but whatever...it needs running Windows to execute...then the ATI radeon hd2600 driver for windows 7 that i downloaded from the site has an installation program that is an .exe file, which needs windows to run...  Does this make sense, why i can't just use these fixes, that seem to be the only fixes out there....so can someone school me step by step here (not just the highlights) of how to update bootcamp, and how to install the ati radeon driver  without having been able to complete the windows 7 installation because the monitor goes and stays black????
This is so very frustrating for the record...and any substantial help "not just go download this..." would be immensely appreciated.
Some other things i've been told to try that i've tried and nothing seems to happen as i'm told it will....
---I've been told to install the osx dvd and run "setup.exe"  - AGAIN...it's an exe file...and 2 - when i put in the os x file it just wants to re install 10.6...so need more help if this is even a real solution to understand how to make it work...
---I've been told to update boot camp to 3.1 and/or 3.2 from 3.0, using Apple Software Update....Well, my software update is saying everything is up to date and there is nothing new to download at all, and when i reverify the bootcamp version it is still only 3.0.2...and again downloading the updates from www.apple.com/support/  for 3.1 and 3.2...all of those are .exe files...need windows to run them...again, refer to the problem described in detail above...
---I've been referred to the black screen on imac early 2011 thread saying it should fix my problem...and reading it it SEEMED like the most promising resolution...it involves creating a boot flash drive for windows 7 and an xml file that sets the imac drivers to auto install during the windows installation..and it got me farther than anything else..but still ultimately ended up in the darned black screen...my assumption is that it's because it's for imac and not mac pro so not ati-radeon specific drivers....ok....that's enough..please...anyone who thinks they can help...your help is desperately needed...thanks so much in advance!

hey Hatter, thanks so much for getting back...so just to be super clear...is there no way to install the drivers using an exe file given my current state? no way to do it with command prompt or something?  if can make work with existing card, i'd prefer it...now when you say it's 'toast' how do you mean?  it works well with the os x partitions and always has...so i'm not sure i follow, just want to be clear...
Now to your point of starting with only the one drive installed...so i would put that bootcamp drive in bay 1 and disconnect the rest...i'm not totally sure what you're suggesting the effect should be of doing this?  just that i'm just installing windows without the bootcamp deal...but if windows 7 doesn't support the ati radeon hd2600, it still will go black screen no? or you're saying it will run video through the motherboard if it's the only bootdrive, and will run all the way through the windows install without trying to switch over to the hd2600?  (slrry flr these questions..just really want to make sure i understand what you're telling me..thanks so much for your patience and help by the way...it's very greatly appreciated...your support is priceless!
So now, assuming none of the above is possible...referring now to the ati 5770 that you referred to...you mention it works with 10.6 well, and that windows 7 supports it ...2 questions on that
         1) Windows 7 supports" meaning, out of the box windows 7 supports it? or will i have to install drivers still through some update, because again, if that's how i have to do it, then won't work, cuz can't start windows to see anything to install any drivers or run any thing at all...so it would have to just work with initial installation.
2)hardware wise for my Mac Pro 3,1...intel dual quad core xeon, blah blah....will this card work? it's a PCIe and should fit on my board no prob, etc?

    Hello All,
I just received my new MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming. 4GB. It freezes/locks up upon booting into windows. If I do not install the drivers. It does not lock up. As soon as I install any driver, it goes to a black screen, and locks up. I have read the forums, and see a few other people have reported this issue. I have tried the following AMD Catalyst drivers 14.7(beta), 14.1, 13.2. All still have the same issue. I have tried installing the driver manually(via device manager) with out the CCC. I have also tried the native drivers from MSI's website. still same issue. Not sure what else to do here. I am using a CoolerMaster RS-850Watt power supply. Windows 8.1 Pro. Here are the rest of the details of my setup. Anyone know of a fix for this issue?

Hey guys, thanks for trying to help. I ended up going back to the retailer. memory express. They determined that the card was DOA. They exchanged it and provided me a new card. New card has no issues. thank you for the help.

I have the same problem which many are having. msi r9 270x 2gb gaming OC, Black Screen after catalyst drivers intall. I have tried various drivers, including 14.7 RC1 beta drivers.
First time i installed drivers provided on msi website (AMD_13101_78_vga), those worked fine until once i rebooted after 20 minutes. One thing i did was used the msi fast boot without using fast boot program installed in windows 8.1.
    Things i have done already:
    1. formatted pc many times
    2. used all the various versions of catalyst
    3. Cleared CMOS (removes battery for and hour, shorted for 10 seconds to reset)
    4. done bios flash with atiwinflash in windows with MSI.R9270X.2048.131129.rom 015.041.000.000.003348 (from techpowerup.com); one thing i noticed after using this rom that without catalyst drivers installed, i can see windows recognize that my gpu has 256mb memory which was before only showing 8mb before this bios update. but again after catalyst 14.4 this black screen came back again.
My card serial number is - S/N: 602-v303-070B1404044342,
Please provide me with the bios to use with this card and how to flash it again if atiwinflash is not advisable.
Also tell me which catalyst drivers to use for stable system if not 14.4 or should i use provided on msi site 13.101

4.) Be aware that gpu-z screenshots or what gpu-z reads out as bios version are NOT of any use for identifying the required vbios version. While it doesn't hurt to add those when S/N and an actual copy of the vbios are also supplied simply just adding screenshots or version readouts will not get you any further and us having to ask for the required informations.
As Svet already said we need the actual vbios.

  • 270X Gaming - Black screen after driver install

I just recently purchased an MSI R9 270X Twin Frozr Gaming.
I physically installed the board and booted my PC. Windows started fine, albeit in VGA mode. I then proceeded to install the latest AMD drivers for the card (13.11 Beta). I made it through installation and then rebooted. When I rebooted, I got a blank, black screen after the "Starting Windows" screen. I was unable to boot windows, so I restored to last known configuration and tried again with different drivers (13.9) with the same result.
Does anyone know why windows hangs when it loads the display driver? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi everyone. I just wanted to give you an update. It seems I have resolved the problem.
After attempting other fixes (fresh Windows install, MB BIOS update, etc), flashing the BIOS of the video card fixed the problem. I used the BIOS version
015.040.000.000.002887. I believe the BIOS the card shipped with is 015.039.000.000.002887. Anyway, there are no problems now. I was able to install Catalyst 13.11 Beta 9.5 with no problems and no black screens.
I got the BIOS and ATIWinflash from TechPowerUp. I'd post links, but I am too new to the board.
    Thanks guys.

I own the R9 270X, which is on my PCI-E x16 slot, motherboard: Gigabyte ga-b85m-d3h.
When I try to install drivers for my card (those that come from AMD site, those from MSI site or those on the CD attached with card) my screen turns black in the middle of installation.
The monitor works, but there is just black screen displayed. When I restart it stays black after the Windows logo or it crashes during the usage. When it crashes it displays a solid color screen with some vertical stripes. Usually somewhere after 15 minutes from start.
My motherboard BIOS is up to date.
Card has worked great for 2 hours after fresh installation of Windows but then the problems i mentioned came back. I was even able to play games on high settings, but then the solid-color-crash occured again.
Is my card faulty and should I return it?
    Specs:
    Intel Core i5-4440
    Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H Intel B85 LGA 1150 mATX
Power: Corsair VS 450W ATX 120mm
Windows 8.1 64, but tested also on Windows 7 64 installed on my computer.

I'm back on my computer (where I can't install propper drivers), haven't checked with afterburner.
    Two scenarios:
    1. The screen started to flick/jump when we wanted to run testing game (Call Of Duty 4) on his computer, we didn't even get pass the starting window, then when we returned to Windows the flickering and jumping didn't stop. Then it was steady for a 5 second, and again flickering and jumping.
    2. When I first received my newly assembled computer after fresh Windows installation I was able to play Assassins’ Creed Black Flag for about 15 minutes, then the flickering/jumping occur. Then after many trials (including removing and trying different drivers, setting up fresh windows and so on -remember, I wasn't able to even install the drivers after that) I was able to again install drivers and play for like 2 hours. Then - same as earlier problem occur.
So in conclusion, I've manage to install my drivers two times. But then the "solid color and stripes" or "jumping and flickering" problem occurred after few minutes of computer usage.
One more thing. On my computer even at low resolution the screen had some glitches (stripes here, dots there), on my friend's computer, there were no glitches at first. The flickering-and-jumping or solid-color-and-stripes problem occurs only on resolution HIGHER than 800x600.
