Re-registering a used Apple product

Why can't Apple simply "link" the serial number of an already registered Apple product instead of blocking it from being re-registered?  Allow the re-registering of a used product and link only the serial number without divulging any identifying information or data.  That way people purchasing used Apple products can keep track of their products under their Apple ID Account.  It does not make sense to disallow re-registering of re-purchased products.  I would like to be able to keep track of all my Apple purchases in one place even if they are not covered by warranty.  It seems like a huge waste to only be able to use your Apple ID Account if you are under warranty.  What about newly purchased applications and music?  Why is it such a big deal?  Seems like it would enable Apple to keep track of equipment better.  I realize this is not their primary goal but if they want to be customer service oriented, it seems like the thing to do.  There are millions of used Apple purchasers that could use the service.

But it is really simple. Someone who sells an Apple Product has to give up the ownership by unregistering it. The registered owner can always unregister any mac or mobile device.  Do not buy a product, that is still registered to the previous owner. When you buy a product, make sure, that the previous owner has reverted the product to the original state it has been sold:

  • How can I get hardcopy Apple brochures and catalogs to teach and encourage people in my university community to use Apple products.

Apple has the best devices and software in today's ICT scape. Sadly, people in my University hardly use them. For some time now I have been teaching and sensitizing members of my university community, mostly professors and lecturers to use Apple devices to ease teaching, learning and personal activities. I have been able to get a good number people hereto buy and use Apple products, especially mobile devices. I'll need hardcopy catalogues, manuals and poster to enable get more effective as they is no Apple shop or dealer anywhere near.
How can I get these items?
    Thanks.

Contact the original cellular provider, as they are the only ones that can provide unlocking.

  • HT5622 how do i register a new apple product

i got a new ipod and i am out of the country and need to register it to the united states.

The Apple Product Registration website is closed.
If you’re trying to register an Apple product, chances are it’s already registered. Most Apple products can be registered when you turn them on for the first time and begin the setup process. Service and support for your Apple product are linked to its serial number, so it’s OK if you don’t register it. If you'd like to check the service and support coverage for your Apple mobile device or computer, click here.

Is there  a way to sell a used apple product back to apple

Apple doesn't buy them back but in some cases may take returns or have a recycling program for them.

  • What is the best home set up for a family to share/use apple products

Hi, I am relatively new to apple (have an iPad) and having been a PC user for years I was pleasantly surprised with the apple experience and am now trying to work out the best set up for me, my husband and young son as I am buying them both of them apple products this Christmas.  New Mac laptop/ ipad for hubby and then an ipod touch for my son oh and a new mac laptop for me. We are also thinking of moving from Blackberries to iPhones. Yes we seem to be hooked! but i am unsure about the home family set up and how to replace my PC network that I run off an 8TB server.
In reading the forums I keep seeing people talk about problems they have with two apple IDs and trying to merge them. I have also heard about a family ID allowing us to share apps legally.  I am really nervous of setting us up wrong and then having problems later and hence i am now looking for some advice on how to share as much as we can legally but also make usage practical and not invading each others privacy. thoughts so far:
Music - I think we are happy to share the same music and access using one ID (we currently don't buy much music from apple but have lots of CDs we share).
Photos - It would be nice to share photos - as long as my son or husband cannot accidentally delete photos of mine (which is my biggest concern). I currently load all camera photos onto my 8TB storage box as the network owner and my husband has full access to copy any photo to his laptop but can never delete the original copies by accident.
Apps - If possible i would like us to share these but they are cheap enough these days to separate if really needed. Would be good to share licence for pages etc though
cloud, contacts, facetime, email -  this is what is making me consider separate IDs or learning how to have multiple users in one apple ID - I do not want to have to share synced contacts with my husband. I have near 300 contacts now through work etc and he will not want them plus i will not want his or him being able to delete mine by mistake. and then for email and facetime, well I want to give him his privacy so I do not receive his messages etc. especially now that we are considering switching to iPhones
Then last but not least, i don't know the best solution for my son. he is only 7 years old so even though I don't want to pay for things again I don't want him being able to download "just any" app from the purchased icon in Appstore. Also, is there a child friendly setting to prevent him from viewing inappropriate content on the internet?
Appreciate I have asked a lot of questions here but I am looking for any genuine advice out there. Thank you in advance to any potential advisers.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You don't need to use the same ID on a device for iCloud and iTunes.
iCloud covers mail, contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, bookmarks, photostream, document syncing etc and for these I recommend you each have your own ID's, this will stop others from having access to and likely more importantly being able to edit or even delete your personal information.
Someone of Age needs to be responsible for an account, so for younger children you will need to create and be responsible for an account yourself but let the child use it.
For iTunes you could use a single account so everyone can share music and apps or you could use separate accounts (there are ways to share content between users, Apple provides homesharing to do this).
When choosing how to proceed with iTunes, it might be worth remembering that someday your children will reach 21 (or whatever age they feel they have become independent) and will likely want their own account, changing accounts later may make it difficult to access previous content.
Photostream now has shared albums, so you can share just what you want with others. Shared photos using shared albums cannot be deleted by others with different accounts, but if you all shared the same account they could be.
Facetime and messages can also use an ID independently of each other, iCloud and iTunes. Separate ID's are recommended for these, joint accounts can be problematic.
iTunes has parental controls for youngsters, however at 7, I suggest you don't reveal the password to him and enter it yourself when he needs to purchase something, otherwise you may receive unexpected bills.

  • What are the best ways to recycle used Apple products?

I currently have a iPhone 4 (32 GB, Black) and a Macbook Pro (Mid-2009, 2.53 GHz, 250 GB storage, 4 GB memory) that I don't use anymore. I'm looking into recycling them or selling them but I'm not sure about:
    a) What the products are worth - the iPhone looks brand new and the Macbook Pro is in fair condition but needs a battery replacement
    b) Which recycling programs to go with - Apple's PowerON program has shady reviews and I'm not sure whether to trust sites like 'gazelle'
If anyone has any advice on recycling or selling their Apple products, let me know. Thanks!

    jess_ek,
To get an idea of what the products are worth, take a look at recent winning bids on online auction sites for identical items to yours in similar condition.
If you prefer to recycle rather than to sell, you could donate them to iFixit, which will make maximum use of their parts to help keep other iPhones and MacBook Pros running. If you’d prefer to sell them, you could offer them as individual lots on online auction sites, or advertise them for sale on online classified ad sites.

  • Making an eMac wireless using Apple products

Well, if you've got an eMac USB1 (the USB1 is the important bit) then, basically, your options are slightly less than the thin end of zero. You can only buy an Airport Extreme card (which I did), but that doesn't fit. You need a plain Airport Card, but Apple doesn't sell them.
The Airport Express (yes, I brought one of them too) is useless too, because you can plug in your broadband cable, but then you can't plug in your computer. The only solution seems to be an Airport Extreme Base Station, but, guess what - THEY DON'T SELL THEM EITHER!
I always went for Apple products because you didn't have to be a nerd to get them working. With this wireless stuff I'm not so sure...
eMac 800MHz Mac OS X (10.4.8) Airport Extreme card and Airtport Express

I would recommend an ethernet wireless bridge such as the Linksys WET54G.

  • Registering a itouch/apple product twice

    Hello,
I recently lost my itouch and i have the findmyiphone app installed and the itouch is locked with a lock screen.  From reading on here I found out that you can still get past the lock screen by restoring the itouch.  After you restore the itouch do you have to reregister the product?  Can the person who has the itouch register it a second time and if they do will the findmyiphone app still work after a restore?  Just basically wondering if the itouch will be of any use for the person or is it more likely that they will get rid of it at a pawn shop or contact law enforcement and report it stolen.  Thanks.

I do believe that he/she will be able to use thier apple id with the device restored. However, if a problem were to occur on the touch, they will not be able to receive apple's product warranty since it has been registered in your name. The serial number along with the registered user's name I believe stays on record permanantly.

  • HT4623 I'm new to using apple products, recently was asked to consider using a ipad mini for my specific business needs. Does anyone use the mini for their business?  How does it work for you?

I'm new to using the apple OS.  Recently had business partner buy an ipad mini, was thinking of buying more for our businesses.  I'm used to using Windows Office products for my reports, wanted to know how apple's Pages, Keynote and Numbers compared and whether they could be used on the ipad mini.

I have asked a moderator to provide assistance, they will post an invite on this thread.

  • Registering a second Apple Product

I want to register my daughters Ipod but as she is underage I tried to get an Apple ID using my email which was declined. How does one solve this?

Do you already have an ID for yourself with the same email? Try using your daughter's email address, you can go ahead and put in your information for the rest (just so it will be approved, and since you will be supervising the account).

  • HT204266 I have used apple products, phones, apps, iPads for 5 yrs. now, 1 iBook said I had to switch back from a U.K store? I've never been! Now I can't even update my apps I've used for years

This is my 1st time   so I can't tell if you all could see my entire question:
Basically, I've been kind of an apple junkie since my first 1phone 3G approx 6 years ago then on to the iPads.  I've been really lucky with the apps, iTunes, etc. and finally decided to try a couple books and Instant nightmare.  Every time I open my apps or I books it s me I have to switch to the U.S Store.  I've never, switched out of U.S???  Now it's infiltrated my Netflix.  I go under settings and it it's all cool.  I'm in the right time zone.
Please help me!! I'm healing from a surg and this is my only entertainment while waiting to get back to work.
    Thank you much!!

Reboot your iPad and then try changing the store again.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Using iCloud has absolutely no bearing in this issue whatsoever.
