RE: removing "quicktime" from my System Preferences?

I have removed/deleted every quicktime from my computer except the one located on my "system preferences" page. How do I delete that one? Thanks for your help. George

Niel,
Thanks for the advice. I did as you said but it was not located there. All the other ones were there. I must have a "ghost" figure showing up after deleting all of the other quicktimes. Now, how do I get rid of the "ghost" figure? Thanks for the info! George

You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and do a search for <i>ask.com</i> via the Filter at the top of the about:config page.<br />
You can reset all <i>ask.com</i> related prefs that appear bold (user set) via the right-click context menu to their default values.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • Unable sign into my icloud from macbook system preferences

    Hi,
This is my first post here. I searched for a few days and saw that this problem is not new and a few people have reported this and had gotten it solved.
So again, the problem is, I am not able to login to icloud from the system preferences. I am able to sign in to the web icloud.com alright.
It also works well on my iphone and ipad. The problem is only with the mac after Yosemite upgrade. It started because I found that new contacts that I added on the macbook contacts were not synced on my iphone. So I decided to logout and login again..but haven't been able to login since then.
    So far I have tried
    1. deleting and resetting keychains,
    2. removing the applications folder in Library/Application support/icloud/applications,
    3. tried logging out from other iOS devices and only from mac,
    4. creating a new test user,
    5. changing the apple id password.
..and none of this worked. So if anybody has any more suggestions, I would be glad to try it out.
    Thanks,
      SS

Solved my own problem. My iMac was waiting for acceptance of iCloud Terms & Conditions.

  • I am using 10.6.8 and I cannot get an Imac to appear in workgroup manager, the mac is bound to both AD and OD. I have removed the bindings, rebuilt the mac and also removed it from bot system but still it does not appear in OD in work group manager.

I have a mac which is connected to a network and is bound to both OD and AD with no issues on my server when I try to manage it through Workgroup manager it does not appear.
I have unbound it , removed it from both systems completely and even rebuilt it but it still does not appear in WGM.

If your server is 10.6 and your client is 10.7 you'll have to add it manually to WGM
via mac address.  10.7 clients don"t automatically appear in 10.6 server wgm

  • ICloud missing from my system preferences

I recently changed my email for my apple ID log in and since doing that I keep getting an error that pops up to fix my apple ID and password for my icloud. When I click to update it takes me to system prefferences and gives me a NULL error. I have OSX 10.8.4 and always had the access before this issue.

    Hi eric,
Well, that's just weird. Any chance that something changed in your User profile? Have you logged off of the computer and back on? Just some ideas. I fear that if your iCloud option is missing altogether from your System Preferences, that may indicate a corrupted OSX and require a re-install of Mountain Lion, so just trying to think of anything to avoid that.
If it is an OSX issue, that is outside my purview. We have some really good systems experts here in the Community, and they usually pick up on these types of issues, so post back once you have checked the User business if things are still whacky. Hopefully they will be monitoring.
    Sorry I couldn't help!
    Cheers,

  • Using Spaces (from the System Preferences)

I have enabled the Spaces from the System Preferences to keep my programs more organized. I use almost every program of the Adobe Suite on a regular basis. I had put the different programs in four different Spaces because I often have many windows open each program, so I like to keep them separated. When I move to a different program in my Adobe Suite my toolbars disappear and I have to hit Tab a couple times to get them back. This is very annoying especially when I am in the text tool. I am about to disable the Spaces. But I want to see if anyone out there knows what I can do if anything.

Nothing yet, Tiffany. Nobody has admitted responsibility for that glitch. Probably its just one of those things which has to do with development cycles and timing. CS3 was created and released before Leopard was available. Adobe seems to be on the next version and this issue doesn't really matter to them. Apple keeps changing their system often enough it is hard for the engineers who have to keep up with all the changes. The net result is that problems don't get addressed while new features are prized because they seem more valuable to the marketing department who appears to be dominant at Adobe.

  • Cannot open nor remove quicktime from my computer

Cannot open nor remove Quicktime from my computer.
Quicxktime is installed but when I try to open a mp3 file using quicktime my Windows installer tells me that Quicktime cannot be found.

Windows installer tells me that Quicktime cannot be found.
Is that the QuickTime.msi that can't be found, robert?
If so, unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing QuickTime again. Does the install go through properly? If so, does your QuickTime Player launch now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • I can't sign into icloud from my system preference!!

We have two desk top mac's OS X 10.9.3.  We switched the house computer to our office and visa versa.  After unplugging it and setting it back up the one now in the house will not let me sign into my iCloud from the System Preference area. (the other works fine) I have tried everything.  I know I am using the right ID and password because I can sign in online but nothing will let me sign in under the icloud system preference and get my icloud to connect to the cloud information.  HELP it's making me crazy  I have spent the whole day trying everything.

I can sign on with two different id's (that are email addresses) and both use the same password.  And I can sign on to icloud.com via Chrome and have no problem.  But when I try to sign on to icloud via system preferences it tells me invalid password with one of the email addresses and that I can't sign in at this time - etc. with the other email address.
I think I give up and am going to haul it into our computer store tomorrow.  I just want to scream at this point.
None of it makes any sense.
Thanks for trying to help me.  I do appreciate it!!

  • How do you remove a third party item from the system preference

I am running Mt Lion 10.8.5 and need to remove the Norton Antivirus that is in the system preference.
What is the trick on getting it out of there?

    Hi,
    Read All on this one.
The Disk or the Installer .dmg that you got for this should have an Uninstaller included.
On a  Disk it may be a separate item.
However sometimes it is an option choice during the Install screens.
The web site for the app should also have instructions (in rare cases the Uninstaller is on the web site)
Common "all user"  add-on Preferences Pane are stored in Had Drive Name/Library/PreferencesPanes
The ones that come in the OS are in Hard Drive Name/System/Library/PreferencePanes
Note the Path Bar displayed across both pics.  (Finder > View Menu > Show Path Bar).
You also have a User Folder version Hard Drive Name/Users/(your account name)/Library/PreferencePanes (~/Library/PreferencePanes)
You have to use the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder and type (Copy from here and Paste there) in the Dialogue box that appears  (use the ~/Library/PreferencePanes option)
There is a good chance this one is empty.
Broadly speaking though the more complicated the processes behind a Preference Pane or app the easier and better it is to remove it with the correct Uninstaller.
    Norton is Invasive !!
    USE THE UNINSTALLER Method

How to remove Sweet picks from my system? I am running XP SP3

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • I cannot get onto my iCloud to manage my storage, it will not let me access iCloud from my system preferences

I am trying to get onto my iCloud account to renew my storage for the year, but I cannot access it.  When I go to System Preferences and click MobileMe, I get an error message that says I cannot connect to the server.  Is there another way to change my storage plan?
    Thanks!

You can only pay to continue your free extra storage from System Preferences on a compliant Mac or from Settings on an iOS5/6 device. If you cannot access either of these then I'm afraid your choices are to go to http://icloud.com and delete as much data as possible to bring yourself below 5GB (assuming you are indeed over it) or to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion - you have less than a day to do this, which doesn't make it an advisable course of action.
If you decide to upgrade, what you can do depends on your Mac's specifications. If you are on Leopard you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard first (Intel Mac required).
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
    and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Bluetooth seems to have disappeared from the systems preferences selection page on my Macbook Pro. Where to from here?

My Logitech mouse quit working and I assumed low batteries. I replaced them and the mouse still would not connect. The Bluetooth icon on the menu bar is dimmed with the squiggly thru it and the message is "Bluetooth: Not available." The Bluetooth icon in system preferences, which WAS there before, seems to have disappeared. No selection option at all: it simply isn't there. When I click the Mouse option I get "Install a USB mouse" and nothing else. So where I do from here to get my mouse alive an well once more?

I have the same problem. How do i reset the SMC?

  • Question about Removing Permissions from the System Folder with chmod

    Hi
I have a question about the removal of permissions from the System folder (and sub directories and files).
    Background
Since installing a new HD, clean install of 10.6, application of updates and moving over backed up user directories I have had several issues with permissions.
I have read several threads on this and using disk warrior and other tools I have been able to fix most of the issues.
    The Problem
The issue that remains is a permissions check using Disk Utility keeps reporting
ACL found but not expected on "System".
followed by an extensive list of sub directories and all.
Attempts to repair take hours and the same errors are reported.
    Found Solutions
I have read about changing and/or completely removing the ACL from the permissions from the System using two different commands:
sudo chmod -R -N ./System/* ( to remove all ACLs)
    or
    sudo chmod -R -E ./System/* ( to replace all ACLs )
My Question is ( to the UNIX gurus):
What is the difference between the usage with -E and -R and which is the best approach for a Systems directory and (subordinates)?
    Many thanks!!

    OK
So I misread on the your instructions about the PW reset, did it, no harm in that. I did also select the options to reset all the permissions for all the accounts and the ACL issues were not resolved. My bad, I forgot to note that.
You do suggest getting and expert opinion but alas these are rather elusive. In most cases the Apple solutions is to do a complete reinstall... I have found that unless you completely wipe a drive and rebuild everything there are often artifacts left behind. Since I have full and redundant back-ups I would rather explore and hack a little instead of a dull old system reinstall. The irony is the system issue I had was it was the result a reinstall and combo update on a new drive. I recognize the risks of entering the realms of the System folders but I am willing to explore knowing full well that I have a path to recovery.
Thanks again for your insights. I come to the forums looking for insights and ideas but not a lecture...

  • Mouse menu disappear from the system preference..what happened?

after I updates to OS 10.47, my wired mighty mouse completely stop working. I checked both the USB ports with USB flash drives, they work just fine. But when I checked the system profile, the info of the mouse does not show up. I also checked the system preference, strangely, the mouse option does not show up under "keyboard and mice". All I see is keyboard, trackpad, bluetooth and keyboard shortcut.
anyone knows what is going on? thanks alot!
Black Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

If your Mighty Mouse isn't working then the mouse options in the preference pane will not show up. You'll only see (like you said: keyboard, trackpad and bluetooth). If you have a working mouse plugged in, it will activate the Mouse preference and you will no longer see the trackpad option. That particular preference pane is dependent on the hardware that is present.
Sounds like it might be time for a new Mighty Mouse - a perfect time to spring for the wireless one
EDIT: I misread your first sentence and didn't realize that it stopped working after the 10.4.7 update. Yes, I would try to reinstall the software. But my original response (save for the "spring for a new one" segment) still applies.
