Seems that there is something wrong with motherboardmaybe its already damagedthe replacement of capacitors is a sensitive procedure and the motherboard can be damaged always during such replacement

do I have to remove the keyboard?
and wath is the limit of GB

    Hi Theo,
HDD is fest mounted on your machine and it is not easy to change it. First of all you must to remove keyboard, then display and top cover too. If you want to do it yourself be careful. If you make something wrong it can be very expensive.
It is not easy to say what the limit of HDD is but I am pretty sure that you can use 10GB without any problems. Try to contact Toshiba Service Partner. Maybe they can give you some precise information.

  • Satelite A300-1GN and Vista x64 driver support

    Hi,
I am (happy?) owner of this model for 2 days.
However it seemes logically that if this notebook can support up to 8GB RAM (i bought with 4GB) there should be possibility to install x64 operating system.
It seems, but it's not like I see. There are no drivers for x64 MS Systems on Toshiba official website to download.
Well, I am able to understand you do not want to support Win XP x64, because this system is getting older.
I can not understand how it's possible that every large company supports Vista x64 for their devices and Toshiba do not.
It seems perverse that you do not deliver suitable drivers and I really can't believe that.
I am wonder and i hope the main reason is that product I own is a new model and the drivers appears soon.
E.g. Satelite A200 has x64 support despite its a lower and weaker model...
I hope we can expect that our doubts will be explaining, and Toshiba will not slight their custommers longer, but will incline to our requests.
If I am mistaking of looking for needed drivers, then want to apologize for my post,
but if I am not wrong I will be satisfied to hear rational answer and ensure that the drivers will comming soon!
    regards
    Kuba

Well I really hope it will be.
Mabye can you tell me how long does it usually take to support the drivers for 64bit systems for new model by toshiba?
If I will have to wait e.g. 2 years there will be no sense to wait for them. If does it usually take about few months I will be waiting carefully.
Or mabye somebody can give me advice if there is a sense trying to find needed drivers on devics producers sites?
Finally my question is, if models having nearly the same devices and configurations like sat a300-1GN and sat a300-15B are probably using the same drivers?
If there are the same graphic cards the same webcam the same loudspeaker? :)
Is there any sense to try drivers for this devices for sat a200 series?
I am sure i will try to install Vista x64 for few days so i am satisfied for all tips i will get here.
    Greetings,

+The following table defines all the currently supported DFT error codes. For example if during testing of your hard drive DFT reports a error code of 0x70 as shown on page 14, this indicates that your hard disk drive has problems reading one or more of its sectors. In most of these cases the drive can heal itself of these errors. To do this first back-up all your data from the problem drive ( if possible ) then run DFT again and select either the Erase Disk or Sector Repair option which is under the Utility heading. If you already have a backup of the data on the hard disk or the data isnt important you can opt to run Erase Disk/Sector Repair from the Test Result screen. Once the selected operation has completed you can then run one of the test options Quick or Advance to confirm that the drive has been healed. The result code, which should be displayed, is 0x00 if the test returns another code then you should check with your drive/system vendor if the drive can be return for warranty replacement.+

  • Satelite A300 - Unknown Model

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A300 but do not know the rest of the model code. The guy I got it from removed the serial sticker. When I try to download drivers I can choose between:
    Satellite A300-ST3511
    Satellite A300-ST3512
    Satellite A300-ST4002
    Satellite A300-ST4505
    Satellite A300-ST6511
In Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers. I can see my laptop, and it only says A300 at model.
When I go to Control Panel > System and Security > System. All I can see there is what cpu I have (Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3200.
Any help would be much appreciated with identifying this laptop or getting the right drivers for it.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply
I have been there, but I do not know what my short model number is.
And if I search without it I get like 100 different drivers and have no clue which is compatible or the ideal for my machine. if I just search the A300 I get 100 different drivers, no idea how to know which ones I must download.
And If i search different short model numbers I get either less or more results and that tells me that some of that 100 drivers will not be compatible with my specific machine.
Is there any way to find my short model number?
    Thanks

  • Waiting for new charger for my Satellite A300

I dont know if I am onto the right place for my problem.
I bought a Toshiba laptop on 9th September 2009. Model: Toshiba Satelite A300-1RY.
Everything has been going fine with the laptop since date of purchase, except for the fact that it is so slow to start up and shut down although I am told this is normal on Toshiba laptops, until last week when the charger stopped working on it. It was working fine and then next thing I know my laptop shuts itself down and wont start up again, I tried the charger on 4 plug sockets and it wouldnt work on any of them.
I brought the laptop and charger into my local branch of the shop it was bought in. It was tried in a plug socket there and wouldnt work so they said it is definitely the charger that isnt working. I was told it would be sent off to Toshiba and they would send out a new one and I could pick it up in the store within a few days.
That was on the 22nd May. I still hadnt received any update from them so I called them yesterday to check. Firstly I was told that it was sent off for repair after I was told I would be getting a new one. Then I was told it wasnt even covered in my warranty but it was going to be repaired as a gesture of goodwill. Then I was told that it hadnt been looked at at all because the man I left the charger with had taken the serial number down wrong, and I wasnt told this until I rang nearly 2 weeks later to look for an update.
I am absolutely furious to be told that my charger isnt included in my warranty. I was told when I bought the computer it had a full one year warranty. I explained to the man I bought it off that I hadnt a clue about laptops and had never bought one or used one before so he recommended I buy an extra 2 year warranty which cost me a lot of money on top of what I was after forking out for the laptop. I was told this covers anything that goes wrong with my laptop for the next 3 years and after that if anything goes wrong it would be time to get a new one anyway. So to be told now that actually very little is covered in this warranty has really infuriated me. DID are adamant this is not the case and this is not what they sell. If this wasnt the case I would not have wasted the money on extra warranties if they do nothing to help me when things go wrong.
The fact that the charger has stopped working after just 9 months was a total surprise in the first place, and then to be told yesterday that it isnt covered by its original one year warranty was just a total shock for me.
I am really angry about the whole matter, especially due to the fact that after nearly 2 weeks of waiting for updates I am now told this, and also the fact that when I left the charger into shop I was told it was no problem and I would have a new one within a few days.

I am not 100% sure but I think one year warranty is for whole product including AC adaptor.
As I can see problem is guy that works by your local dealer.
What you have done is right and probably I would do the same but you can try to ask them who is Toshiba service provider they are working with and try to contact them directly.
Explain the situation and try to clarify this with Toshiba service provider directly. Be cool on the phone or directly in service. Take the bill with you where they can see the date of purchase.
I believe they will help you with this.

  • Re: Strange power supply issue on my Satellite A300

    Hello All,
I have a problem with my Satelite A300 which is difficult to explain and i havent found this problem anywhere else in the forums. I am not an expert of computers and i will try to explain the problem.
When the battery is fully charged and i switch on the laptop, i can use the laptop for 5 minutes and i get a warning to plug in again. When i plug in, the system gets stuck. Nothing moves or nothing happens. Press the power button for a few seconds and the system is shut down. I recharge and restart again and i play sopcast video or some other video application, and then plug-in the system, it works fine. Again i can use the system unplugged just for a few minutes, if i plug in it hangs.
If i play sopcast and plugin, it works.
If i start the system in safe-mode, it starts fine and i can use the system as long as i want. Even if i plugin during safemode, it works fine.
I checked with some experts and they say the graphics card is gone. Some say there might be a virus. Some say thats a problem with the battery and charger.
Please help me. I am writing my thesis now and all my data is in this system.
    Thanks,
    RV

Set the BIOS to default setting. Restarted the notebook. Pressed F12. Selected CD/DVD and pressed Enter. System started. The screen went blank for sometime. The DVD drive was making some noise. Then i got a message after 2-3 minutes which says " Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by the faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.

  • Compaq Presario S4500UK Won't start after wall-socket disconnect. Is this a CMOS battery issue?

Recent software rebuild with additional internal HDD (March 2011) as dual-boot WinXP/Linux setup worked fine.  CD/DVD RW drive started to give cyclic redundancy check errors so replaced drive a week ago.  All still OK.  Change of electricity provided and increased energy usage conciousness switched off machine at the wall overnight after normal shutdown.  Machine would not restart in the morning.  Did not load BIOS; all lights came on briefly and then went dead after 3-4 seconds with power light still on.  One can get a similar effect by plugging the keyboard into the PS2 Mouse Socket as I did once!
After 20 minutes or so trying all sorts of things managed to boot from Linux CD.  Shut down/restarted and all's fine provided I don't switch off at the wall.  Also seems to be OK after brief 5-10 second power off but problem persists with any long disconnection.  It seems that after 10-15 minutes power-on and 2-3 attempts at restarting, the BIOS comes up and all's well, although it has stopped in the middle of a Windows or Linux start-up on one or two occasions.
Am I right in thinking the problem might be the result of a dead CMOS battery?  The reason I ask is that the clock seems to keep time OK and there are no apparent issues with BIOS once it loads.
Any help/guidance would be much appreciated.  Further config info below.

I didn't get any replies so I went ahead with replacing the CMOS battery but that hasn't helped.  The problem is also evident if I power down and leave it for about an hour or more before trying to restart even if I don't disconnect the wall socket.  It seems to take about 15-20 goes at restarting before it fires up.  I would be really grateful for any clues as to what's wrong.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Still no replies to my increasingly ticklish problem so I'll give you the benefit of further investigations in case it prompts some words of wisdom...
So it's not the CMOS battery.  Other symptoms emerge...
    1.    "Crashes" are absolute, immediate and without warning - just like someone turned the lights out.
    2.    "Crashes" also happen occasionally when firing up Truecrypt using the "Auto-Mount Devices" option but thus far have not occured when selecting the required device first.
    3.    The problem appears to be getting worse in that it takes longer to persuade the machine to start from cold.
    4.    If I remove one of the HDDs the machine boots up fine - or it has so far (about 10 times after power disconnect for 1hr or more).
This makes me start to suspect the PSU.  I've done the diagnostic checks on the HP website
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=...
and it appears that the Power Supply is working just fine but if I remove a device not required at boot-up the thing will fire up first time.  My analysis seems to suggest that the existing PSU (Lite-On PS-5251-08HP) rated at 250W is working at near capacity but it cannot service the peak loads when the HDDs spin up during boot-up.
    Can anyone confirm this, pls?
If this is the case, can anyone suggest a suitable upgrade?  There's loads of product out there with prices ranging from £15 to £150 but as I'm a bit of a numpty and I don't seem to be able to narrow the choice down sensibly.  I've tried going through the info on the HP website and various tech forums/fora without getting very far.  It would be brill if there's someone out there that knows the product and could share their knowledge.
    Tks in anticipation!

  • Gtx 460 Hawk Modding? about gtx 557,5 :)

Hi guys, i am bored about my GPU so i wanna do some crazy things on it
i have a gtx 460 hawk talon attack, vid of the card is 1,012 and i was so Unlucky about it    it hits hardly 880 mhz without Artifacting on 1,087 volt
i once tried 1,15 volt and reached roughly to 932 mhz and take benchmark on Vantage... it was minor artifacting...
my elder brothers Hawk Talon Attack is vid 0.937 volt and can reach easily 951 mhz with 1.087 volt on vantage
i wonder if i add some nec/tokin capacitors to my card according to gtx 560 twin frozr, and gtx 560 ti twin frozr, will it increase my o.c. capacity
    note: sorry for my english...
    About the referance this idea:

    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_560_Twin_Frozr_II_OC/images/back_full.jpg

you just have a lower potential gpu. Adding capacitors won't change that. Progress with such means is most likely marginal but as any hardware modifications comes at the cost of possibly killing the card.

  • Satelite Pro A300-28R - Display shows horizontal stripes

My Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 sometimes displays horizontal stripes which effectively makes the text and images unreadable before laptop crushes and I have to reboot. Usually happens when I am on the internet. Does any one know why this happens and how to solve it?
I once telephoned Toshiba UK Technical Support and a rather impatient adviser said it was a static discharge problem but why does it not happen with my Pavilion laptop?
My Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 is less than a year old yet the above problem has occured on numerous occasions. I have also had to replace the power adaptor already due to the cable being too stiff at the cylindrical piece next to the jack. Does any know of a production issue with this series of laptops?

    >My Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 sometimes displays horizontal stripes which effectively makes the text and images unreadable before laptop crushes and I have to reboot. Usually happens when I am on the internet. Does any one know why this happens and how to solve it?
Such display symptoms can be related either to a display, graphic card driver or the graphic card chip.
First of all you should try to update the graphic card driver and should check this again.
Secondly if this issue would appear then you should connect an external monitor to the notebook in order to check if the same would be visible on external screen.
If yes, then the issue might be related to the graphic chip.
This would be the worst case because an graphic chip cannot be replaced but the whole mobo has to be replaced in order to solve such problem.
