Re: Satellite A300: How to dedicate video memory

hi i was checking methods on how to make my graphics card work a little harder and people kept telling me to dedicate some memory to my video.
these are my settings right now:
total graphics memory: 358 mb
*dedicated video memory: 0 mb*
system video memory: 128
shared system memory: 230
so i was looking for a solution on how to do that and i found this :
[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgRBDNDvMwU]
but i cannot get to this menu,
please help,
Nathan
ps. do u think this graphic card is good enough to play new games? (eg. cod5, far cry 2, etc.)

http://ftp.toshiba.ca/support/TechSupport/quickspecs/quickspecs.asp?id=Quick%20Specs%20Chart&family=sat ellite&partnum=PSAJ0C-SH308C
It says:
Mobile Intel GMA X3100. Up to 358MB of shared video memory
Unfortunately the Intel Graphics solutions are not designed to have great 3D performance.
You need an ATI(AMD) or nVidia graphics chip for decent performance.
If you want to play the latest games, you will need to lower the resolution and use low graphics settings.
Note that many games need special DirectX/OpenGL features to run, which the Intel chip may not have.
I imagine older games like FarCry1 will run ok

  • Satellite A300 - How to get Windows 7 recovery disk?

    Hello!
    I have Satellite A300 with windows vista recovery disc and I want to upgrade to windows 7! how can I get one?
    how much does it costs?

    Hi
    The upgrade is pretty easy: Just purchase a Microsoft update disk and then you can update Vista to Windows 7 Thats all!
    But if you bought your notebook from June 26, 2009 to January 31, 2010 you can order a Windows 7 upgrade disk directly:

  • G580 (2189) How Increasing dedicated video memory? (HD graphics 4000)

    g580 (2189) i5-3230M hd Graphics 4000 video memory size is set only 32MB!! And there is not bios setting to increase memory to 64 or 128mb?? why?

    Hi
    Welcome To Lenovo Community
    We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,
    Intel(R) video controllers do not have dedicated memory. They all use shared memory from the RAM installed on the system and reserved to the video controller through a technology called DVMT (Dynamic Video Memory Technology), which dynamically adjust the amount depending on how much is needed.
    The driver uses a small amount (~32MB) of driver for internal housekeeping purposes- that memory is taken at boot time.  All other memory needed is dynamically allocated to graphics as it is needed - up to 1.7GB on a 4GB system.  This is more than enough for all applications that you would be running.

    Hope This Helps
    Cheers!!!

  • How to adjust video memory for Toshiba A305-s6905?

    Hello, I bought Toshiba A305-S6905 from best buy last month or more.
    Now everything goes well. I am glad to own such a laptop.
    The machine's spec describes the graphics card:
    "Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
    Features 128-1294MB dynamically allocated shared video memory for intense detail."
    the video memory is dynamically allocated, and the range is 128-1294MB.
    I want to know how to get the largest video memory for some games like CS, etc. I tried to manually adjust the video memory size in BIOS, but failed. There is nothing related with video memory option.
    please help.
    thanks.

    There's software installed that does it automatically based on what the system is doing at the time. If you're playing a game, it will give it the necessary video memory.
    I am assuming you're asking this because you're not happy with the performance of the game, otherwise you wouldn't be trying to adjust it manually. I am also assuming you're talking about CS. Unfortunately, systems with integrated graphics (what yours has) just aren't cut out for playing graphically-intensive games. You'll need to spend more than $600 for a computer that is good for games.

  • Satellite A300 - How to change the Vista language to English or Spanish

    I bought a laptop *Satellite A300* with Windows Vista Home Premium in *Italian*.
    Can I update the operating system in *English* or *Spanish* or I have to buy I new license of Vista.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You cant update your Vista Home Premium to an other language.
    If you want an other language, you must buy a new Windows Vista.
    In the Microsoft Knowledge Base I founded an article about the language pack but this is only for Ultimate:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925471
    Before you buy a Vista version, here can see the differences between Home, Business and Ultimate:

  • Satellite A660 - how to transfer video from my digital camera?

    How do I directly transfer video from my Panasonic digital video camera to my A660? I want to burn DVD. Camera has HDMI output and/or 3 wire (audio / video) RCA jacks.

    Hi
    The camera should support other ports in order to move the files to the computer.
    The mentioned ports like HDMI out and RCA can be used in order to connect the camcorder to the LCD TV but not to the notebook.
    So check the camcorder again there should be an USB port (mini or micro) or firewire which would help you to export the files.

  • How to free video memory ?

    Hey,
    I'm making a simple presentation, lets say with 2 slides.
    In each slide, i've embeded a video from an external link, lets say video1 and video2.
    In slide 1 i have :
    video1.seek(0);
    video1.play();
    In slide 2 i have :
    video2.seek(0);
    video2.play();
    I use the keyboard to go back and forth the slides.
    My problem is when i go back and forth several times between two slides, the memory used keeps increasing.
    Any solution ?
    Thank you.

    if this picture shows what I suppose(12 instances of a flvplayback component) :
    you dont need to use the same component multiple times to show multiple videos:
    instead have one Layer where you put one FLVComponent that stretches over all 12 frames and set the sourceporperty of this component with actionscript.
    so say your compoennt on stage is named "videoplayer".
    in frame 1 yous have this:
    videoplayer.source = "video1.flv"
    videoplayer.seek(0);
    videoplayer.play();
    in frame 2 you write:
    videoplayer.source = "video2.flv"
    videoplayer.seek(0);
    videoplayer.play();
    etc.

  • Satellite A300 - How to install Vista on different partitions

    Now i need to install Vista in C but when i press f8 or f12 the windows repair not found to install Vista.
    Plz how can install Vista however i have E partion (hddrecovery) and (d partion winre) ?
    Plz help me this is important to my very match
    Sorry about my lang and i hope to found answer thanks
    mohamed

    Hi
    Sounds like that you didnt understand how the Toshiba recovery procedure works. Normally you have two partitions on the HDD after you start it the first time. On the second partition there is a folder called HDDrecovery. This folder contains an image of factory settings and you can start this installation if you go in advanced boot menu (F8) and select Repair my computer.
    But this is only possible if the preinstalled OS is still installed. If you install another OS like XP, you can only use the Toshiba recovery disk.
    So Dr.Lamp is right, in your case you can only restore the factory settings using Toshiba recovery disk.
    I hope I could help you a little bit.

  • Satellite A300 - S-video doesn't detect TV

    Dear All
    Last week, I bought your new product: Toshiba Satellite A300
    I liked its specifications specially the s-video output.
    When I reached my house, I connected it to my TV:
    Toshiba Bomba 29A3MJ
    http://www.toshiba-gulf.com/site/product/prd_details.asp?prdid=1044&catid=123
    I used S-Video to RCA Cable:
    http://www.accessories-shop.net/images/5FT_4_PIN_S-VIDEO_to_3_RCA_TV_male_Cable.jpg
    I then set the TV to the mode which I used to use for another laptop.
    I kept clicking Fn+F5 on the satelite laptop with no use.
    Nothing was displayed on the TV screem.
    Before, I used to connect HP Pavilion dv2000 to the same TV using its s-video and it worked fine.
    Please advice how to fix this issue.
    Best regards

    Hi
    Usually it should work.
    Both devices should be OFF. Then connect notebook and TV using this cable.
    Power up the TV and boot up the notebook.
    If the usage of FN+F5 will not detect the picture on the TV then I would recommend checking the settings in your graphic card properties.
    I dont know what graphic card you have but my Satellite notebook has been equipped with the Intel graphic card and I can change the settings in control panel -> Intel graphic card media accelerator.
    Maybe your notebook supports ATI card. So such settings could be found in ATI catalyst.
    PS: Check if you are using the latest BIOS and latest graphic card driver too.

  • Satellite 5200 - Video memory corruption

    One month ago I encountered a problem with a slightly garbled screen
    on the internal and external displays. More or less visible vertical
    strips appear on the screen. They are mainly blue on dark background
    (best visible) or yellow on white background (less visible) and have
    approximately the same thickness of order 1-2 mm and length of order
    1 cm. The locations of the strips depend on the positions of details
    of the actual picture currently displayed on the screen.
    The boot screen is also garbled but now by red vertical strips located on the left and on the right of the red logo "In Touch with Tomorrow Toshiba"
    In the full screen text mode, odd characters appear in positions which correlate with positions of true characters.
    The BurnIn Test V4.0 Pro indicated a video memory corruption (the adapter is NVIDIA GeForce4 460 Go, 64 MB, integrated RAMDAC). That is very interesting, yesterday
    there was a short period of about 5 minutes when all the described above symptoms suddenly disappeared.
    Even the BurnIn Test showed that everything is OK. But after this period, the symptoms recovered again. For this
    reason I would like to ask how to solve the problem.
    Is this indeed a bad video memory which can recover and then become bad again or other reasons, such as a bad connectivity, etc.?
    Thanks.

    hi, i had the same problem on a Satellite m70-159. With one diference- mine would start only in safe mode. But the same vertical strips, even in the ''in touch with tomorow'' screen. this was the good news. the bad news is that they had to replace both the motherboard and the video module.
    sorry.. and it's not like anything had happened to my notebook..

  • How to use right keyboard symbols on Satellite A300?

    I have just recently purchesed a Toshiba Satellite A300.
    The system details are as follows:
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo CPU T5850 @ 2.16 GHz 2.17 GHZ
    Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit.
    Memory Ram: 3.00GB.
    Anywho, it cost 879 Euro + postage and handling. The problem is the keyboard. The keyboard language is set to English (US). For who knows what reason, some of the keys do not enter their designed symbol/function/numeral.
    For example, in order to make the symbol ''@'' i have to use the corresponding key sequence SHIFT+','
    But when i press SHIFT + 2 i get ''
    I cant figure out why, but i cannot even get it to work. A lot of the keys are out of whack. I haven't touched anything, i only got it over a week ago. It cost me a lot and i can't seem to find any support. I had a technician look at it, but he was unable to figure it out.
    I've tried holding down ALTGR and shift and pressing INSERT and everything but to no avail.
    PLEASE, i need to figure out how i can ressolve this issue, i cant access one of my email accounts, because i can't figure out whats wrong with the keyboard.
    my email address is [email protected]

    Hi
    The solution is easy. You have to change the keyboard language to English UK.
    Check this Microsoft page [How to change the keyboard layout|http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/765a7264-b593-4458-90cf-0d0713b5dfe61033.mspx]

  • How to connect my Satellite A300-1J1 to HD TV

    Hello
    I have a Toshiba laptop model Satellite A300-1J1 (which does not have a HDMi socket) & have just purchased Toshiba XV551D 40" HD tv. Want to be able to connect laptop to tv with the best picture quality possible, would a DVI to HDMI cable be better than the standard 15pin monitor to external monitor/tv cable?
    My laptop has a IEEE1394 socket, i'm presuming this is the same as a DVI socket??? (I could be wrong tho!) Also on reading the tv manual, it says unless I am connecting HDMI to HDMI, I would need a separate audio cable?
    Please advise asap, I'm looking to buy all necessary leads online rather than go shopping so want to make sure I get correct leads from the off.
    And apologies if i sound thick lol.
    Thanks

    HDMI or DVI will be the best quality.
    15pin VGA is analog and has a limited resolution.
    If your TV has speakers, you can simply use HDMI to output the sound to the TV (HDMI includes audio signals).
    If you use DVI, you will need an Audio Cable from the headphone jack on the laptop, to your Speakers/Hifi.
    IEEE1394 or FireWire is not a video connector. It is similar to a USB port, primarily used to transfer video/audio from a camcorder to your PC.

  • How can I install windows XP on my Satellite A300-129

    Hello,
    Since a few days I have bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-129. I'm very satisfied with the laptop, though I don't like to work with Vista so i would prefer to reformate the laptop and install Windows XP Professional(32 or 64 bits, dunno yet).
    However I don't know if i have to do anything special for it, because this is my first notebook I've got and I only once had a laptop with drivers on a CD. Now i'm switching operating system i think i need some driver disc's for my webcam and stuff like that.
    I hope some1 can help me :)
    Thanks alot
    BTW I'm dutch, so sorry for my English.

    > And i've got a legit license of XP Pro, though i dont understand what u mean with the sata driver things. Do u mean i need to ADD the drivers on the current Disc with windows XP?
    The point is that your Windows XP CD does not contain the SATA drivers which are necessary to recognize the HDD during the XP setup procedure.
    So you will have to include the SATA driver pressing the F6 button while the XP setup is loading. For this procedure an external FDD drive is necessary.
    If you dont have a external USB FDD drive then you could create an Win XP CD and could include the SATA drivers using the free software called nLite.
    One note; Use the forums search function for searching on other threads about the nLite and how to create such CD. I remember there are many threads in the forum about this theme.
    Cheers

  • Re: How to use the second hard drive in Satellite A300?

    I have been given a second hand Satellite A300 that was being thrown out due to a faulty DVD.
    I fixed the DVD and have a perfect working system.
    On opening the case I discovered it has 2 x 250GB hard drives. I checked CMOS and the 2 drives show. Yet, Vista only shows the one drive.
    Excuse my ignorance but how do I access the second drive?

    I have Satellite A300 with two hard drives and each HDD has other operating system. Both HDDs are recognized properly.
    I dont know what is wrong there but both HDDs should be recognized automatically.
    Try to set BIOS to default settings and check it again.
    Try to start bootable Microsoft installation disc and check if both HDDs are shown in setup.
    I just hope there is no some hardware problem.

  • How can I tell what video card and how much video memory does my iMac have?

    How or where can I find out: which video card does my iMac have and how much video memory does it have? I've tried looking in System profiler, but I did not see it there. Thank you.

    Once you open System Profiler there should be a line called "memory" which is the RAM (vs. hard drive size which is not what is called memory), e.g., Memory: 1.5 GB
    For video click on the line Graphics/Displays and look at the chipset line, e.g., Chipset Model: GeForce2 TwinView
    Kappy's instructions are handy for checking the original configuration of your computer, but that may have been changed at some time, especially if you bought it secondhand.
