Re: Satellite A660 - Windows 7 update killed Tuner Driver

I have the Satellite A660 type psaw3a-07T00R
The last Microsoft update stopped my internal TV tuner from working with MS media watch tv program thing.
I've tired removing then reinstalling Yuan DVB-T ATSC Tuner Drivers, but nothing works.
the internal USB unit keep coming up as a STK770D.
Anyone have any ideas??
Thank you

Its very strange that some MS update affected the TV tuner functionality.
> The last Microsoft update stopped my internal TV tuner from working with MS media watch tv program thing.
Can you post some details? I mean do you see an error message or whats wrong exactly?
Generally you should be able to roll back system and the installed updates.
So in case this issue is related to the Windows update, the system roll back should fix it.
Of course its not really a solution because Windows system should be updated if updates are available but for the first time it should bring more light in this case.
By the way: how did you try to reinstall the driver? Did you uninstall the driver firstly in device manager?

  • Satellite A660 - Windows 7 boot problem

Hi, i have i think biggest problem i ever had. I got Toshiba Satellite A660. I got Windows 7 ultimate 64bit (just to know.) The notebook freezed so i pressed to shutdown button to shut him down.
Then i was trying to start him but i saw only "Starting Windows" for more than hour.. When I was trying to use repair disc i saw only green loading bar (like loading in windows XP) but nothing happend again. So I tried to use installation disc but I only get a "Starting windows" and nothing happend, same with USB boot.
    Anyone could help me?
    Thanks for every post.

I understand that your computer was working and running W7 64 bit.
Can you or have you looked at the BIOS? I don't know what you can see/change but is the hard disc displayed and is the memory reported?
If you use the W7 disk or the recovery disc to boot the computer can you get to the Install Windows screen and select "Repair your Computer". If you don't see that screen you'll have to make sure the DVD or USB is the first boot device.
At this point come back for some more ideas or google for something like "windows 7 command prompt repair"

  • Satellite A660 - Windows wont load - I cant recover

    I have a Toshiba Satellite A660 7U.
Last night it failed to boot.
I ran the Norton ghost start up cd and backed up most of the stuff I needed.
I also noticed C drive has become just 1.5gig and there was a extra drive!!!
I tried to run system restore using Toshibas start up factory restore settings. first it says not enough space in C drive then when I changed the settings to delete all partitions it was preparing for a long time the copying also for a long (10min) time then switched itself off.
Now what shall I do? Is my HDD gone?
I can see all my stuff when I use Norton ghost though. I copied most of the stuff in D drive. Possibility of a virus?
    william

Thanks guys. Yes i have made the DVDs.
Now what I did was format the whole drive 600gb using the 3rd party bootable drive. Then I started using recovery disks to restore. But almost every time the computer switches itself off for no reason while trying to copy the files. At times it switches off as soon as I push it on. Partition software was able to format the whole drive without any issue.
Could it be the partition tables that are messed up?- what i mainly dont understand is as to why the machines switches off abruptly. Could it be the MB or the RAM or failed HDD that switches off the computer.
Any ideas are more than welcome.
I was able to back most of the data to a external HDD. Does recovering to factory settings make HDDs go bad?
    null
I just noticed, as I try to copy the recovery DVDs contents the machines switches off again in 20 sec o so it tried to starts itself, then again it switches off the again it starts by itself, this is weird this goes on happening...

  • Windows Vista Update posts 64bit driver for Qosmio F30 32bit Vista

    Hello
Today I've noticed that Windows Vista update is posting the wrong update for one of Qosmio F30 drivers.
I have Windows Vista 32Bit but Windows Update post a 64bit version of the driver.
    see the screenshot [Here|http://imagefilehost.googlepages.com/f30Wrongupdate.jpg]
    Any idea?

    hmm... this is strange ?:|
The Toshiba x64 ACPI compliant driver means definitely a 64bit version!!!
I dont know why the Vista driver update notification reports an 64bit driver for a 32bit OS but usually the 64bit driver shouldn't be compatible with the 32bit OS.
However, the case seems to be clear dont install it if the driver is not designed for your OS.

  • Satellite A660-11M - BIOS updater (Winflash) crashes every time

    Hi all,
I bought an A660-11M a few months ago and thought I'd update the BIOS to stop Tempro nagging and see if it helped any niggling problems I've been trying to fix. I downloaded the zip, extracted and ran the .exe as per instructions on the help site. Winflash opens, runs the first step (load new bios) but freezes on step two (analyse old and new bios compatibility). Then a 'Winflash.exe has stopped working' message from Windows pops up.
This happens whenever I try it, even with antivirus shut down and straight after startup with no other programs running.
    Any ideas?
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, I've 'dualbooted' Ubuntu using wubi but the bios update was failing before I installed it...perhaps it would work better in Wine? ;)
    Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the speedy replies! I did read a lot about not touching the bios unless there were serious problems, but I have had occasional random start ups (particularly from suspend) that I wouldn't mind fixing and as the advice is usually something about making sure the bios is up to date I thought I'd have a go.
I'll try reinstalling Value Addded Package and see what happens - it shows as installed in Control Panel but I did uninstall some of the Toshiba bloatware. Thought I left the important stuff alone though... If that doesn't work I'll ignore it and go for the quiet life!
@Xardas: I was terrified when it froze the first time! I gave it two hours before rebooting but I seem to have had a lucky escape. :)

  • Windows 10 update killed my laptop, P2PP BurnBoot Check Failed( restoration incomplete)

I tryed to update to windows 10, but I was in audit mode and could not, I rebooted my laptop out of audit mode and had to restore some software and settings, the restore failed and gave me this BurnBoot error.
I have already tried resetting the BIOS, changing time, putting it in legacy mode etc, still did not work, please help me!

I suggest to try performing a system recovery but set your expectation that this will remove everything that you have from your laptop and will set it up just like a brand new one again, then if you still have plans of going to WIndows 10 upgrade I strongly recommend to run all updates first through WIndows Update and HP SUpport Assistant Here's the guide to perform System Recovery http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643 Hope this helps

  • Satellite C650 Windows 7 64-bit video driver

I have removed the home edition of Widows 7 from a new Satellite C650 laptop so I can install Windows 7 Professional (I need to join a domain). I have all drivers installed as well as the BIOS 1.50 update, but the display driver fails to run with an error indicating the minimum requirements for the device have not been met.
What's this all about ? The driver I downloaded is from http://tinyurl.com/3yctbxm
    Full URL:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=2777925& rpn=PSC08U&modelFilter=C650-ST2NX1&selCategory=2756709&selFamily=1073768663#
This driver is the only option available when filtering for Windows 7 64-bit.

Great. Support for European models is on European support page.
Problem is that many people check US page for European models and wondering why their notebook model is not listed there.

  • 10.6.6 update killed Hard Drive - endless problems

Like most people posting here the 10.6.6 update went fine at first, the App Store worked perfectly (of course...), then I tried to move a file to my External HDD and I got Error -36.
I rebooted. Grey Screen with the spinning wheel never ending. Ran all sorts of Disk Utility things and various error messages came up (Signal 8, I/O ballsed-up - stuff I don't normally deal with so don't know about), then reading forums and this site in particular led to no avail. So, re-installed, losing a ton of stuff (yes, I know...). So far, so fairly pi$$ed off.
So I'm back with 10.6 trying to update using 10.6.6 at first, then 10.6.5 (both normal and combo update) - nothing works. The Software Update fails when it tries to update before restarting, then each DMG file from Apple has an invalid checksum.
So, for the chance to buy another version of Angry Birds I lose tons of work and my MBP is knackered.
Can anyone suggest a next step? Merci in advance,

That's why I'm thinking the drive really is going bad. If it can't write/read from those areas, then you're not going to get a good download unless it finds and area that has no problems.
First, open Disk Utility and repair permissions. You'll probably see lots of things that aren't repaired. That's normal.
Second, boot from the Install disk and repair the disk using DU.
    Then, try the update again.
Also, on the original gray install disk that came with your computer is the Apple Hardware Test. If you boot to that disk while holding down the D key, it should start the hardware test. You can then run all the diagnostics to see if it finds anything. I haven't run them, so I'm not sure what options are available, but if it has an extensive test for the hard drive, that's probably what you want to do. But, don't exclude any other hardware tests, it could be something else interfering.
Even if it says the Disk is OK and the SMART status in DU is Verified, the drive still could be failing.
I had a drive that was acting up only when accessing certain files. I repaired, erased, installed, repaired, … Finally, the SMART status indicated the drive was failing. That was over several days of pulling my hair out trying to repair/restore etc. My point being it is hard to tell when/if a drive is going bad. Yours may be fine. You may suffer like I did for several days trying to get it working, eventually finding out you've been wasting your time.
Since it sounds like you don't have a backup, you might consider purchasing an external drive, installing Snow Leopard on that, and then boot from it. If everything works fine on that, you can blame the internal drive. If it is still wonky, then there's something else going on. You've still got a good backup drive to use in the future, either way.

  • Satellite A660 Cant get official updates and iTunes-64 wont install

    Hi,
I've had my laptop for about 3 weeks now and have some problems that maybe someone here can help with :)
It is a Toshiba Satellite A660 Windows 7 64 bit, with all the toshiba support options allowed - tempro, bulleting board health check etc.
    Problem 1:
The toshiba bulleting board asked me to update a load of stuff - Bios, Display Drivers, Wireless drivers etc.
The only update that (appeared to...it didnt freeze at least ) worked was the broadcom wireless driver update.
So, for the display update, I download the file, extract it, and nothing happens - I have tried running the tinstallwb.exe myself -
I get prompted if I want the program to modify the hard drive, I say yes..and thats the last I hear of it..been trying for hours to get this to work, but i look at a desktop with no activity. In the archive folder, if I try and run the setup.exe (i.e. the nvidia part) it says that no valid nvidia hardware has been detected.
    Problem 2:
I tried the bios update, that the bulletin board asked me to install...it failed, just didnt want to install.
    Problem 3:
I spend most of the time powering down the laptop, as it freezes on the shutdown screen...
    Problem 4:
Prob not a toshiba issue - but I cannot install Quicktime or iTunes...the installer just freezes (It doesnt go into not responing though) - I left th elaptop runningn for about 4 hours yesterday, trying to install itunes 64 bit until I had to kill the task (and power down, as shutdown doesnt work)
Any ideas, I've given up on trying to update the updates that the toshiba Bulleting board is telling me to update?
I've tried the obvious update everything I can, but the toshiba updates dont update :(
Other software installed: MS Office and Outlook, firefox.
    Thanks for any help,
    Andy

    Hi
    1) You can download all the drivers directly from the Toshiba European driver page.
If you really need an update, then you should download the file, should save it on the HDD, should unzip the package and should either execute the setup.exe or should update the driver from the device manager.
    2) Here is a HowTo doc about BIOS update:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=60
If this is not possible, then your Windows OS might be muddled up and maybe you should recover the notebook before running a BIOS update.
    3) As suggested above; all these issues might be related to the corrupted OS and maybe you need to reinstall the OS to get it working again.
    4) see point 3

  • TV tuner on my Satellite A660 would not work

    Hi,
I purchased a Toshiba Satellite A660-07S a couple of months ago and then reinstalled the Windows 7 32 bit system in order to have a few more partitions. But I did not delete the hidden partition from the system just in case I have to restore to factory settings.
Now I have moved to an remote area and need some TV but only to find out that the tuner was not working. It is detected properly under sound and gaming devices in device manager. Yet when I use windows media center to scan channels. The WMC just said the software had encountered a serious error and please retry.
Then I tried to use Blaze DTV which is also a very popular DTV software. It successfully recognised the Tuner but will not scan either.
I did a bit of research and used the TV tuner setup trouble-shooter from Windows 7. The warning message is that "the Tuner is not properly configured to be used in Windows Media Center". And the details show that the tuner is connected but not enabled for WMC.
But how can I enable the tuner for WMC then?
Really hope someone can help as I am freaking out now in a remote town in NT.
    Thanks!

Sounds like Windows or WMC may be corrupted. I would try a System Restore to revert the system back to a previous date.
Also ensure the channel width in WMC is set to 7mhz, not 8mhz.
    Also update the BIOS.
If that's no help, then back up your important data and run Recovery to reimage the HDD back to its factory state.
To run Recovery, turn on the notebook and hold the 0 (Zero) key down.
You should create Recovery Discs first, there should be an icon on the Desktop, or use the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator from the Start Menu.
Now if it still doesn't work after a fresh Windows install, then there could be a hardware problem. In which case, you would need to send the notebook to a Toshiba Service Center.

  • Satellite A660 - USB boot problems after BIOS update

    Hello,
I own a Toshiba Satellite A660 and recently have update the BIOS to the latest version (1.80). Since then the notebook will freeze on the boot screen (the one with the Toshiba logo) whenever a USB flash memory is attached.
It works without the flash memory connected and also if I connect it after I enter the boot menu or the BIOS setup. I can even boot from it like this.
As far as I am concerned this is a serious regression. Is there any way I can downgrade the BIOS version, or any other way to fix this issue ? I rely heavily on external USB drives.
    Regards,
    Claudiu.

I too am having problems with my A660 since upgrading to 1.80 bios - the HDD/SD utility, the pc health monitor and half the other toshiba utilities no longer work because they can't recognize the bios and actually tell me this... I get an error message telling me ''can't get bios type''...
On top of this I get the boot problem as well - I have to unplug half of my USB devices to get the laptop to boot properly...
And now - one month into owning my new A660 - after a hard drive failure, a problem with the Broadcom internal wireless adaptor I now have the internal TV tuner no longer working and have no idea how to fix it...
My gut feeling is that the sooner I can downgrade to the original factory bios the BETTER - and wait for another bios update to come along that is not faulty/buggy...
HOPE someone can help me with this...
    John.

  • Satellite A660 - Camera device failed to initialize after BIOS update

I bought a Satellite A660 PSAW3A-07P00R last December. Yesterday I updated to BIOS version 1.9 (did not record what version before the update). Running Windows 7 Home Premium.
After the update, I got this message when I want to use the built-in webcam. The message is "Camera device failed to initialize. Either the device is in use by another application, or it is not recognized by the system." I have tried to open the device manager but cannot find any image or camera device there. I have also download the webcam application version 1.1.1.15 from Toshiba site but it does not install.
Is it any way to revert the BIOS back to the old version? Can Toshiba look at this problem for BIOS version 1.9? Has any one come across with this and finally fix it? Your suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Will

    Hi
Only the ASP can revert the BIOS to early version because they could reflash the BIOS using the BIOS DOS-rational BIOS.
But the point is that if you are using the right BIOS, then the webcam should work properly in connection with the new update.
So I agree with Xardas. You should set the BIOS to default settings and should save the changes before you would leave the BIOS.
Then uninstall the webcam software and disable also some background processes which could lock the webcam. This can be done in msconfig.
I would also recommend cleaning the registry using the CCLeaner who knows whats is going wrong with the OS registry so CCleaner helps you to clean the registry entries.
After several reboots, you could try to install the webcam software once again.
    Good luck

  • Satellite A660-11M on Windows 7 - Toshiba Power Saver does not work

    I have a Satellite A660-11M and I work on Windows 7 Ultimate
The problem is that I have download all drivers and updates but the toshiba power saver does not work its installed with no error and TPSLaunch (green icon) does not open when I click on it and no icon I found in the control panel for the program afterIi install all the Value Added Package!

Toshiba Power Saver is only for XP installations, you can't install the XP Drivers (and most Vista Drivers) in Windows 7.
Make sure all your drivers are for the A660, and make sure they are for Windows 7.

  • Re: Unable to update BIOS on Satellite A660

My Toshiba Satellite A660 laptop's (psaw3a-07t00r) harddrive failed so i bought a new one (WD500BEVT) when i put it in the laptop and try to install windows it tells me
"This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk, ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in computer's Bios menu"
In the bios the only option i could find related is the SATA Controller Mode which when changed to Compatibility it will not boot from the disk and just shows a blank screen.
So i thought i would update the bios, i borrowed a harddrive from a friend and installed windows to it along with all the current drivers and toshiba programes but when i try to update the BIOS it tells me
    The programe will be closed
There is an error occured, Please check below items.
    Bios version is above 230.
    Battery capacity more than 20%.
    AC is attached
So i'm not sure what the issue is as i have the power attached and that battery is full.

    Hi xaver
Thank you so much for your reply.
I bought the laptop second hand and it had a seagate 160gb harddrive in it i forget the model number. i dont see any reason why the new harddrive will not work :( as it works fine in my friends laptop which is the one i'm using the current harddrive from.
Yes i have tried setting defaults and also other solutions found on the microsoft website that did not help at all :(
Anyway i will buy a different harddrive, can you suggest one?
Also i am very interested in why the bios update will not work could this be a problem with the computer?
    Thanks, Paul
