Re: Satellite C850D wont start-up

Hi
Yesterday my Toshiba Satellite C850D laptop with Windows 8.1 did an update when I turned it on, it took a while and once it got to 100% it said it ran into a problem and needed to restart which it did with no worry. It worked fine all day, didn't miss a beat. Then this morning when I turned it on the normal Toshiba logo popped up but then a greyish coloured screen with a flickering small line in the top left hand corner appeared and it wont load further then that screen.
Every button on the keyboard I press makes a loud beeping sound. I have pressed f2 and f12 as it tells me too under the Toshiba logo to no help. Could this be from the update? Also can someone please try and help me?
Many thanks.

I would recommend you to start the system repair function.
Power up the unit and press F12.
Now you will see different bootable devices as well as the HDD recovery.
Choose this option.
Details:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2A03ES0000R01.htm
Then you will get new menu providing different options. Here choose: Troubleshoot and Advanced Options. In Advanced Options choose Automatic repair
Hope this fix the problem

  • Satellite A660 wont start again until i turn to safe mode

Just purchase toshiba Satellite A660: i tell the story to compensate closely to my answer, hopefully ..
I just purchase it new, run the insallation program for first use. When its up and running just within that day i noticed that it start to hang up when i hooked external drive for some program installation (adobe lightroom).
Its still fine but when i turn it off, it wont start again until i did turn to safe mode so that i could back up some of the files and run the recovery again.
This time on 64bit. When its finish its process, it works well for just a couple of hours.
It fell faster now thou, maybe because its on 64bit? ( any recommendation whether its 32 or 64bit) specs: i5 , 4ram, 1g ddcatd graphics , win7 home premium, ..
Now, when i turn it off it never start back again windows say.. start up repair. ..
I did let it run since this morning until now still they cant find whats the problem (i'm refering the loptop) .
So any idea on whats goin ?

64bit Operating system is better if your notebook supports 4GB or more RAM.
Why? Because Win 32bit recognizes max 3.2GB even if more RAM is available.
This is 32bit limitation; no matter what OS it is; Linux, Win XP, Vista, Win7 etc
This is the reason why 64bit OS are so popular in the last time
    Regarding the OS issue;
    I recommend running a HDD recovery again... this means you should reinstall the OS usign the Toshiba recovery option;
Press F8 while powering up the notebook, Choose Repair my Computer, -> HDD recovery

  • Satellite M40 wont start

I have several problems with my Satellite M40-149.
When shutting down hangs on a blue screen.
Almost impossible to boot. After some shaking and if its my llucky day, it starts but in most of cases hangs at Toshiba logo "In touch with tomorrow" with the four symbols for hd, cd, floppy and script. I did all tests I could find, there is no virus, the hd is ok (I tried several) and after successfull
start the screen seems ok to me.
I even tried Linux on another with almost the same results, very difficult to boot.
Is there another test I could do (except the Toshiba test)?
Any suggestions about where to look are welcome!
    dimlog

    Hi dimlog,
This sounds a little bit strange like a hardware problem. I cant imagine that this has something to do with the software for example. If the notebook doesnt start properly and hangs on Toshiba screen (BIOS screen) something is wrong with the hardware.
Im not a technician but maybe the mainboard is the reason for this. But to make sure that is causing this the notebook should be checked from a notebook technician.
If you can repair it yourself, have also a look on eBay for second hand parts they are cheaper as new parts.
    Good luck!

  • My satellite c40 wont start up while i move it

I have noticed that if i move my laptop while its starting up it stays at the toshiba screen without the little dot circle animation, or sometimes it shows an error message. This issue started to happen in the last few months.
My laptop is 1 year and 1 month old.
If the laptop is still while starting up everything works fine.

HDD drive protection can stop the drive to protect it from drops, etc. possibly your model has that feature.

  • New Satellite L500 wont start

    Hi
My Xmas gift to my son shows Windows starting to load files and open, then an error message appears stating an error has occurred
    Error: F3-F100-0005
please press OK to turn off the computer.
Does anyone have any clues as to how we can make it work?
    Thanks
    Lancius

    Hi
I have no idea why this error appears but it would be recommended to reinstall the Windows and to configure the system again.
You should use the HDD recovery option!
For this power up the unit and press F8
Then new menu should appear where you should choose the option Repair my Computer.
After that choose HDD Recovery option which allows you to reinstall the Windows again.
Finish the configuration and test the notebook.
    Good luck

  • Satellite U400-14B shuts itself off and now it wont start up

    Hi
just got a new Satellite U400 this week.
Was working perfectly the first few days, then last night, it just shuts itself off and now it wont start up.
I press the on button and the row of lights next to it light up, but nothing happens I dont even get as far as the Toshiba screen.
I have tried many things. I left it plugged in overnight, tried taking the battery out and no result as of now.
The little led lights on the bottom indicate that there its plugged in, the battery is white not orange, when pressed they all light up again only for a split second.
The only thing I can liken this too is when a car wont start and you keep turning and turning the key, well in this case pushing a button, and nothing happens, the fans dont whir or anything...
    help please...

Has extra Memory (RAM) been installed? Try removing one Memory Module and try a different Memory Slot.
If bad memory is not the problem, then there is not much else you can do except send it to an ASP for warranty repairs.

  • Satellite Pro L300/L300D series wont start properly

    Hi guys
I got a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300/L300D series and basically one day the laptop just stopped working and whenever I turned it on I just got to this blank page saying press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart the system. So I tried to reboot it pressing F12 and using a new copy of Vista Ultimate. However when I come to install Vista on the drive it states that there is no drive present on the system.
Does anyone have any idea how I can overcome this problem, your help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    >What do I need to do and how can i create a partition if the computer wont start.
Can you please explain this again? It sounds pretty illogic to me. If your computer wants start how you can try to install OS?
Sorry my friend but now I am asking myself do we understand us correctly or I write about thing A and you write answer about something that I can define as thing B.
    Again:
Start your notebook and press F12 to enter boot device options
Put Vista installations DVD into optical disc drive
Choose CD/DVD drive in the list and press ENTER
Installations DVD will load (Windows is loading files...)
Follow the menu on the screen
When the stage with partitions is shown on the bottom right side (Drive options advanced)
The additional menu on the bottom will be shown
    Delete all listed partitions/partition
Use option NEW and create new one
Try to install Vista on this new created partition.
Can you do this or not?

  • Satellite Pro 4220 wont start

    dear users,
Ive got a problem with my old toshiba laptop it is an 4220 satellite pro pentium III. I have a problem with the power i guess, the computer wont start. If i press the power on button, with the adapter in the socket power nothing happens. Now the green led for power is on but the orange led is flashing on and of, but the laptop wont start. What must i do, buy a new accu? a new adapter or is internally wrong with the laptop?

    Hi
Sorry but there is nothing to do. You must contact service partner. Let them check it. They can read this code and localize the defect.
I dont know in which country you live but please check the ASP list.

  • Satellite P300-156: Vista wont start after installation of Toshiba Tempo

    Hi
I have a new Satellite P300-156 which I have been using for about a month with no problems. It has been great.
This morning I had a message come up to install Toshiba Tempo which I did and all was fine until I restarted the laptop and now Vista wont start.
I have followed all the diagnostic tools, tried system restore etc... but still nothing.
I currently live in Italy, so is hard to take it into a computer repair shop as I dont speak Italian and the operating system is in english.
From what I can see my only option now is to do the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery, but I would loose some data which I have done since my last backup. Is there any way to backup data to a usb storage device using command promts before I do this, or is there a simpler way out of this?
    Any advice would be great.
    Thanks
    Keith

    Hi
Thanks for getting back so soon, however, F8 does nothing when starting. I have an option of F2 or F12, but neither gives me options to access last known good configuration.
Is that the same as a system restore from the Vista system recovery options as I have tried this (gives you a list of last known configurations). But still no luck.
If I do the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery function do I need a disc for this?
    thanks

    > Just purchased the new Laptop/tablet 3 days ago.
The new notebook should function properly if its not the case, then either the hardware or software cause the problem.
I think its hardware so why you dont get in contact with your notebook dealer and ask for new notebook.
Replace this unit and test the new one

  • Satellite Pro L850 wont start up when USB3 cable to Dynadock is connected

    Hello,
I have a new L850 and Dynadock ( PA3927A-1PRP).  The L850 wont start up when the USB 3 is connected and the screen flashes gray then black.  If I remove the USB3 then the L850 will start up and if I then reinsert the cable it continues to start and work fine.
I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the Dynadock viewer drivers from  the Toshiba website.
Perhaps I have the cables in the wrong slots?  It is connected as per the Dynadock quick start guide.
    I would appreciate some assistance.
    Thanks - Mark

  • Unable to load Windows 7 on Satellite C850D

I purchased this Satellite C850D in May this year and it had Win 8 pre-loaded. My son did not like it so I decided eventually to remove it and load Win 7. I took the hard drive out and formatted and repartioned the hard drive but when I have returned it and attempted to load Win 7 I get problems.
Initially i could not get anything to work then v=changed the BIOS settings from UEFI to allow booting but now I continually get
pxe-e61 error media test failure, check cable
    pxe-m0f exiting pxe rom
reboot and select proper boot device
I have removed the network capability with no luck as the hard drive is located in the BIOS settings and have attempted changing the boot order
I have attempted to boot from USB, from CD/DVD and also loading direct to hard drive but nothing...and now told no operating system.
    Is there a workaround?
Please help as i am getting to the point of throwing the laptop against the wall haha

At the beginning I must say that I really hope you have created recovery media for original Win8 that you can use if you want to have factory settings again.
Anyway, I don't understand what happen there but before we start to discuss about this issue check please follow documents

Have you done everything that was described on these documents?

  • Switching my Satellite C850D ON

Even simply turning a laptop ON is a problem for me, to say, I know nothing about computers.
In the manual for my Satellite C850D it says press the ON button 2-3 seconds. I do time this by counting the exact number of seconds. Still, sometimes the laptop turns on, other times the on light turns off and the screen goes black, laptop is off. Or the start screen comes on, then the screen goes black and laptop is turned off again.
This means on some days I have to press the ON button several times, each time counting the requisite number of seconds, before the laptop turns on. Is this not bad for the hard drive?
More importantly, is this normal, the ON button being so very sensitive? Is there anything that can be done to change this, so I can just press the button and the laptop turns on, every time, and not just sometimes?

Sorry mate but this is definitely not normal notebook behaviour.
To power ON the notebook I never had to count the seconds
Just simply press the button (touch it gently until the power LED would be ON) and release it.
I dont know if your notebook is set to hybrid shutdown but you should check the following document:
[Perform a complete shutdown in Windows 8|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm]
In case the fast startup is enabled, the hybrid shutdown will be performed.
I would recommend you to disable this option (Remove the checkmark at Turn on fast startup)
Apply the changes and power OFF the unit as mentioned at the end of the document (select Power and click on Shut down)
I think this changes the power button behaviour.

  • Satellite C850D-B600 - troubles with AMD Radeon HD 7310 Graphics

    Hi,
I have laptop Toshiba Satellite C850D-B600 with AMD Dual-Core Processor E1-1200 CPU with AMD Radeon™ HD 7310 Graphics
I tried the last version in the official site and I tried AMD Official Site and I got massage says (the version of your graphics adapter is not supported) and when I tried to install Toshiba driver the graphic card does not work too.
When I tried to open AMD vision engine control centre I got this massage says (AMD vision engine control center cannot be started there are currently no settings that can be configured using AMD vision engine control center).
Please could you help me :(

    Hi
May I ask you what system did you install and what driver did you try to install from Toshiba driver page?
It seems that this notebook Satellite C850D-B600 was released without any preinstalled Windows system and therefore it would be useful to know what system you are using.
You should also know that the Radeon HD 7310 graphic is a part of CPU. Yes, this is not external graphic unit but its intergraded in CPU.
Regarding the AMD vision engine control center
    >AMD vision engine control center cannot be started there are currently no settings that can be configured using AMD vision engine control center
The AMD Vision Control Center offers additional CPU monitoring options from within the Control Center. I think the above message appears because there are no settings which could be configured. But this does not mean that the driver would not work.
