Re: Satellite L300-1FK - screen is going blank

Screen flickered then went blank and any time i try to start it up it goes blank again.
Any suggestions?

Can you please offer more details?
Is this general problem from the moment you switch your notebook ON or just when Windows OS is loaded?
When you enter BIOS and leave it for a while does the flicker again?
What is with safe mode? The same problem again?
If possible try to connect your notebook to external display and check how it works.

  • My iPad keeps locking itself every few seconds, any ideas how to fix it... Drives me mad having to put my pass code in all the time and the screen keeps going blank :( HELP!

My iPad keeps locking itself every few seconds, any ideas how to fix it... Drives me crazy as the screen keeps going blank and I have to constantly put in my pass code every few seconds. Can someone help me out please. The pass code lock is set at 10 minutes but it's happening every few seconds :(

I've run into the issue and it seems to be related to an app not fully supporting the iOS you're on, the reboot doesn't usually solve it.
I've solved it in the following manner(s):
    1) Backup the device to iCloud, then erase the iPad (Content and Network Settings).
    2) Setup the iPad and choose to restore from iTunes/iCloud Backup (wherever you backed it up)
    3) Perform any software updates
I have not tried simply performing the software updates (which may fix it, but if it doesn't you won't be able to perform the above steps).
    Enjoy.

  • Preventing iPod touch screen from going blank when iPod's powered.

Hi there, is there anyway (or app) to prevent the iPod touch's screen from going blank/turning off?
    This is why I ask...
I often use my iPod touch as my remote, where I choose which of my iMac's iTunes songs to play next and besides I'm always revising/updating the songs' ratings.  My iPod has a password to unlock and so, doing what I just said often can be bothersome.  I've found out that, if the iPod's own music is playing when connected to the power, the screen never goes blank, it only dims, which is very helpful but, since I'm not listening to the iPod, I always have to turn the iPod's volume all the way down.  Also this increments the number of plays to all those songs played back which is something I don't like either and so, again my question is, does anybody know if there is any way or app that, when the iPod's connected to power, only dimmed the screen (but not allow it to go blank)?
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks.
    Jorge...

Go to Settings>General>Auto-Lock and set time to never.  If you have a corporate exchange mail account on the iPod that may prevent using never (Never not present).

  • IPhone screen keeps going blank

My iPhone screen keeps going blank. If I reset the phone, it comes back on but after a while, it goes blank again. I don't know what to do?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • T41 screen suddenly goes blank - possible overheating?

Having an intermittant problem with my T41, and wondering if anyone has any idea as to the cause.
Most of the time, I use it in a docking station. Sometimes, after I've been using it for a while, the screen suddenly goes blank. There's still hard drive activity, as the light keeps on flashing, but the screen stays blank no matter what I do. The only way out is to do a hard reboot via the power button and, when I switch it back on again, the screen comes back, but usually some of the desktop icons have changed places. One time, the screen resolution had also been reduced to 800x600, and I had to reset it back to 1024x768.
I have noticed recently that, when it does this little screen shutdown trick, the fan doesn't seem to be operating and, if I remove the computer from the docking station, it does seem a bit warm underneath. Then, when I reboot the computer, the fan kicks in right away and seems to be pushing a lot of heat out of the vent in the side.
So does anyone know if this is an overheating issue caused by the fan not kicking in when it should, or could there be another cause? One thing that has me confused is that, according to the Windows fault reporting system, it says its a video driver fault and I should update the driver. So can anyone tell me just what the problem really is?
    Edit:
I've been able to find one of the manuals as a PDF, and it seems like the computer is unexpectedly hibernating due to the CPU overheating. Unfortunately, that's all it says, and doesn't give any advice as to how to fix the problem. Does that sound like a correct diagnosis?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Don't know why this topic has been marked as "solved" when it's still an ongoing problem - I certainly didn't mark it as such!
Installed the program you suggested, and ran a few tests. From those, it looks like the issue could be the CPU, not the GPU, that's been overheating and causing the hibernation. With the computer just idling, the CPU temperature reports about 35-38 degrees C, while the GPU sits around the 40-44 degrees C mark. Playing a HD flash video, the GPU temperature went up to around 50 degrees C, while the CPU went up to 69 degrees C. At that point, the fan hadn't kicked in, so I switched from Smart to Manual mode, at which point it started in Mode 7 and brought the CPU temperature back down.
I then ran the test again a few more times with different videos and, with Smart mode selected again, the fan did kick in automatically at around 66 degrees C on the CPU temperature, but only in Mode 1. This seem to just stabilise the temperature, not bring it down, and I had to go to Manual mode to get a higher fan speed.
Before I installed the fan control program, I don't think the fan was kicking in at all, as there was no sign of air coming out of the vent. The only time the fan did kick in was after the reboots, and then only for a minute or so. The program seems to show that both the CPU temperature sensor and the fan are working OK, but it appears that they aren't talking to each other properly. Any ideas why this could be?

  • HT2731 How can I update apps when the screen just goes blank?

How can I update apps on my iPad my screen is just blank. My phone updates fine.

There are a number of other threads from people reporting a problem with a blank Updates tab in the App Store app on their iPads - it looks like there is a problem at Apple's end which they need to fix.
Some posts are suggesting that you if you go into the Purchased tab in the App Store app you might be able to update the apps from there, though you will need to scroll through the list (potentially going through the A to Z list on the left-hand side of the screen, and similarly tapping the 'iPad Apps' button at the top left of the screen and selecting 'iPhone Apps') to find those with updates and individually update them.

  • My computer screen keeps going blank and then going back to the box where I put my password in to start my comp. Why is this happening?

My computer (Macbook) was working fine this am. I left it for an hour and then came back and the screen was black (always does that as the screensaver hardly ever works). I moved the mouse to wake it up and everything was normal. I went to adjust the volume and the screen went blank and the main page with the box where I put my password in when I first start my comp appeared. I put my password in and everything was normal again. I opened a window in Safari and before it loaded completely the same thing happened, the screen went blank and went back to the password box. Does anyone know why this is happening? I don't have an external hard drive or any blank flash drives so I can't back anything up right now and am afraid I'm going to lose everything. Thank you

Sounds like hardware failure, called boot loop. Call Apple and or go on apple.com and make Genius Bar appointment to have your iphone reviewed by a Tech. Provided you iphone shows no physical or liquid damage they will take care of you, or if you have Apple Care Plus

  • E75 screen gone goes blank?

    Hello,
I have a nokia e75, when I first got the phone I had trouble with it because it kept saying sim card recognition. This stopped when I got new sim card. Recently I looked at my screen and the screen saver looked pixelated, a couple of days later my screen went blank, I could make and receive calls and hear the phone working but couldn't see anything on the screen. I removed my memory card and sim card and tried the hard start, press and hold * and 3 and the call button. It came back to life and worked fine for a day and then the same thing. Has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it? I don't think there is a problem with the screen itself because it worked again, and after i done the hard reset I updated the software aswell, so I really don't know what it could be. Any help would really be good.
I just turned my phone on again and it worked fine in offline mode, knocked it off and put my sim card and memory card back in and its fine again. Can't work this out ata all. I am sure it will go again tomorrow. Sim and memory cad work fine in my old phone so I dont think there is a problem with them either.
Please help. I am afraid to go to a nolkia centre as it is an intermittent problem and the screen could be fine when I get there.

The AHT doesn't test everything, but it does test a lot of things.
When you watch video online, that is considered a processor intensive activity, so the computer including the graphics chip will tend to run hotter. There have been some instances of people getting black screens on earlier models when doing graphics intensive things such as playing some games. So it may be that when your graphics chip gets to a certain temperature, it may shut off to avoid overheating, so you would get a black screen. However, I don't think that would be considered normal behavior. You should be able to watch video without your graphics chip shutting down.
One thing to look at--is your Mac on a hard surface so it can properly cool itself? It needs to be on a hard flat surface and the vents must not be blocked. Air must be able to flow freely around it. It can't be on a pillow or other soft surface. You may even want to try a chill mat.
Did you run the AHT when the computer was hot? It may be that whatever happens would only show up if the computer were hot.
Do you have the widget iStatPro? You can download it from the Apple site. It will allow you to monitor the temperatures and fan speeds among other things. It might be instructive to see what kind of temperatures you are encountering when the screen goes black.
Here is a link to an article on what to do if you have no video. It may be that one of the resets will fix your problem:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573?viewlocale=en_US
If the problem persists, contact Apple. You are under warranty, and if there is a problem with your graphics chip, they will fix it for free under warranty. Be sure to do this before your warranty runs out, and consider 3 year Applecare if you don't already have it.
    Good luck!

  • Satellite L300 - Black screen and flashing cursor in top left corner

    11 July 2010
My computer bought 7 March 2009.
I am not sure if there is a voltage issue, but there is certainly a heat issue and has been since I bought it, almost constantly overheating. For circa 2 months it has become increasingly slower to load to desktop. For circa 1 month the operating system became stuck in a reboot cycle - rebooting over and over instead of starting up normally.
On 11 July 2010, the Windows XP operating system would not boot. Switched on to black screen, flashing cursor in top left corner. The computer does not have a Windows Startup Disk and will not boot into: -
    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration (most recent settings that worked)
    Start Windows Normally
System Restore - will not provide access.
Recovery Console - the Windows XP CD will boot and provided access to the tool called Recovery Console. Procedures carried out: -
    Fix a corrupt Boot.ini - YES
Fix a corrupt partition boot sector - YES
Fix a corrupt master boot record - NO
    I have pressed F2, F8, F10 and F12.

    Hello
It seems that something has muddled up your Windows installation and so the computer cant boot anymore.
In this case you have only one option and thats reinstalling Windows. Therefore you can take a Microsoft Windows XP disk or (better) Toshiba recovery disk. It will restore factory settings and your computer is read to use again.
    Check this!!!
