Re: Satellite L500-14N (PSLJ3E) - no DVD burning

Hello
Since a couple of weeks my dvd-burner won't burn anymore. everytime i try to write things to a dvd, i get an error, but reading works fine. furthermore I've no problems with cds. i already tryed 3 programms (Nero 9, CloneDVD2 and the Windows own programm), all 3 types of DVDs (-R/+R/+RW) and installed Windows 7 to test, but nothing helped. Is there any possibility to get things right without buying an external DVD drive?
I'm grateful for every help

Its not that expensive to buy a external dvd burner(if you need one ) , it will cost you like 20 -30 pounds but if you want to install stuff just use power iso , or any other software that can make a bootable usb and install the software from your usb and win7 too if you put your bios to read from usb instaid of hard drive first
edit: if you have an iso image you can use daemon tools that emulates the use of cd/dvd so it recognizes the image and installs the program /game like a regular cd/dvd does
so more over you can do whatever the cd/dvd does with a usb and you dont need to buy a new external DVD drive

  • Satellite L500-14N - Is it possible to show battery life?

    Hi,
is it possible to show the battery life not only in percent but also in hours and minutes in the taskbar? (Windows 7 64bit)
Power Saver doesn't support Windows 7, I think. Is there any other utility which can show battery infos?

Unfortunately only the battery capacity (in %) will be shown.
Toshiba power saver is designed for Win7 but this tool is not the same as on WXP and the control over power settings has operating system itself.
To be honest this with hours and minutes was for me just confusing because this info was not so exact.
When 1 hour was shown I was able to use my notebook not longer than 40 minutes.
You can try to use third part applications for that.

    Hi!
You can get all drivers on the Toshiba website for your notebook. I have checked this and the website show a new driver for your graphic card.
    Check this:

If you search for Satellite L500 and PSLJ3E you will find the right one. ;)

  • Satellite A60: firmware for DVD burner TEAC DV-W24e needed !

    Hi guys,
I have a problem with DVD burner TEAC DV-W24e. It has been some time that it is no more able to write any DVD or CD. Today, I checked the firmware and saw that the version is not the good one at all. Could anybody tell me where I could get the last firmware for that DVD burner or could anyone send it to me by e-mail ! It would be great !!!!
Thanks to all and season's greetings.
    Ben

I found a firmware update on the Toshiba page in the Satellite A60 area but its only for these drives:
    - SD-R2212
    - SD-R1312
    - SD-R1512
    - SD-R2412
    - SD-R6112
    - SD-R2512
I think you have to Google or to ask the drive manufacture for the right firmware

  • How to reset the BIOS to solve a problem with DVD burner on Satellite P100

    Hi
I am trying to reset my cmos to solve a problem with my dvd burner.
I was trying to run an old game that I own that was protected by starforce and ran starforce nightmare with has made the device completly inoperable.
After much searching I have heard to reset cmos.
I have treid through debug and nothing happend. I don't really want to open up the laptop and pull the cmos battery out or leave it for a month until the cmos battery runs out.
Is there any advice on what I should do.

    Hi
What you want to do is simply not possible you said that you had some problems with PCs and you fixed it.
That's great. But a PC is simply different and cannot be compared with the notebook
    > I was trying to run an old game that I own that was protected by starforce and ran starforce nightmare with has made the device completely inoperable.
According to your statement above you CD/DVD drive issue could be related to the installed starforce nightmare. I dont know this but I presume this software/application has changed or destroyed the CD/DVD drives firmware.
Sorry but I see only one way to get it working again You have to contact the ASP in your country. Maybe a technician would be able to rescue the drive
PS: your Satellite P100 PSPA6A series seems to be a Australian series therefore you should use the Toshiba Australian page if you need some drivers or BIOS

    Hi,
normally you can only replace the existing drive by the same one! Toshiba had only tested this drives and so they only guarantie that only this drives will work!
You can try to replace the existing one with the NEC but there can occure problems!

  • How to recover Vista on Satellite L500

    Hello guys,
I bought a Satellite L500 with Windows Vista...unfortunately I am not a Vista-lover, so I installed the good old WXP.
However, I forgot to burn a copy of the vista-version.
Then I realized that there are no xp-drivers available for the Satellite. So I installed the vista-drivers. Almost everything worked, except the graphics drivers.
My notebook, of course, now uses the default graphics drivers from windows, but now everything is distorted.
Now my question: Is there a way to recover Vista? Of course, I own a product key that I have acquired with the purchase of the notebook.
I have also a Vista CD from my other computer, but it does not accept the product key from the notebook.
    Thanks for your help!
ps: Sorry for bad english ;)

    @xaver
I have a original Microsoft Windows Vista DVD, but if I install Vista with this DVD, I must activate it after approx. 2-3 weeks of Vista online. If I give the key which stands on my notebook comes an announcement that my key is invalid. I think this is due to the fact that the notebooks have a kind of protection and therefore only the Vista version functions which was from the outset on the notebook.
I think it really sadly that there are no drivers for WXP.
Nevertheless, the choice of the operating system should be with the customer: (
    @ZiglioNZ
I do not believe that I still own this partition. As this activation came I had to develop the hard disk and delete completely. Otherwise I could not even have installed any more WXP.
    Nevertheless, already thanks:)
I hope somebody has one more idea

  • Satellite L500-1DT: HDD Recovery of Win 7 is stuck in endless reboot loop

This is a detailed bug report so please bear with me.
If you can help, or can confirm you've had the same happen to you, I'll be grateful.
I've owned several Toshiba laptops before and I even used to work for Toshiba so rest assured I like the machine. But I've got a problem with its recovery software. I just bought a laptop, Satellite L500-1DT with Windows 7 64 bit, on behalf of a non-techie who lives elsewhere. Since I know from experience that I will occasionally have to field panic calls along the lines of "it's become too slow", "how do I get rid of the accumulated junk", "maybe it's got a virus" and so on, the first thing I checked was the automatic recovery, i.e. how to bring the HD back to "as new" state.
So I booted into the machine, answered the questions until I got into the OS proper, and then ran the "make a recovery DVD" program. Double layer DVD verified ok. With the freshly made DVD, I swapped the supplied HD for a spare I had (much smaller: only 40 GB instead of 320) and booted the rescue DVD hoping that it would remake me a clean system on the blank drive.
It did repartition the drive according to its scheme, with more or less half the space for Windows and the other half for Data including the recovery files. It did install the system in the Windows partition. It then rebooted into the installed Windows 7 to finalize the installation. There, trouble began: an endless loop of reboots for hours until I stopped it.
    Loop:
    * reboot
    * black screen with bright 4-colour windows logo "starting windows"
    * black screen with light blade and "setup is preparing your computer for first use"
    * blue "welcome" white screen with "please wait" and horizontal bar with green blob, saying "Finishing the installation may take several minutes. Please dont interrupt or shutdown the computer!"
    * blue screen saying it's shutting down
    Repeat the above forever.
I have seen it reboot way over 10 times over the course of several hours. And every time it pretends it's the first time it does that. Surely that's not normal!
I tried stopping it with ctrl-alt-del and task manager but the white screen would go on top of even the task manager, making it hard to kill any processes or even inspect what they were. I stopped it by holding down the power button until it switched off. Then when it rebooted it said if I wanted safe mode. I tried that. It went into the routine above and at some point it said it couldn't proceed with the installation if it was in safe mode. So it rebooted into regular mode and then... finished! It finally broke out of the endless loop!
Then it asked me all the usual questions about language, registration etc, as it had done the first time I had turned it on. This seemed good. I finally got back into a newly installed OS and all seemed fine, except I later discovered that some programs that were there before were not installed.
With bravery bordering stupidity (*) I even re-did the procedure on the supplied hard disk instead of my spare one: first I nuked the windows partition, then I did rescue from the HD (with F8), not with the DVD I had made. Result: similar rigmarole, with endless reboots.
After I stopped it, it sort-of-worked, as above, but now some other programs were missing, notably the Toshiba DVD player.
(*) motivated by: better try this now, with the computer here and all my tools and other computers ready at hand, than when the computer is away at its owner's home and that's the only thing left to try with me at the other end of a phone line. Been there before.
Now, that specific one (DVD player) I could download from the support page and it installed fine; but what else might be missing or not working that I didn't notice? Clearly the restore process isn't working as it should.
Am I the first or only one to whom this happens? Am I doing anything wrong? Is there anything else I should try?
I need to make sure this restore procedure works flawlessly while I still have the computer in my hands. If it doesn't, there's no chance I'm going to be able to do a remote reinstall for my non-techie once I am asked to clean up the laptop over the phone a few months from now.
    Thanks in advance
[Update: while looking for the right place where I could post this I found that other people are reporting the same problem. It's definitely a bug in the distributed recovery software for W7-64, not an isolated problem of my machine. See for example
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=49421&tstart=0 where user kwarc is describing the same symptoms with a Satellite L505.

I am glad to report some unexpected SUCCESS!
I left the computer at what it was doing when I wrote the previous
post. I came back to it an hour later or so (I had stopped counting
the reboots, though occasionally I'd hear that typical chime from the
other room, saying it was doing one more cycle) and I noticed
something slightly different: the white screen with "finishing the
installation may take several minutes" had a blue blob, not a green
blob, in the progress bar, and the blob was rectangular rather than
rounded. Very odd! Something different had happened, like a change of
theme. And a little while after that, the process really finished and
I got to the white screen that asks about what language etc etc, like
when I first turned on the new computer.
    Great!
All I can conclude from this experience:
Even a reinstall that works will DEFINITELY involve many reboots that
seem to be getting nowhere. Apparently, progress is being made, even
though it looks like the process is stuck in a loop of reboots.
It would just be nice if it said something like "Before I finish
restoring, I'm going to have to reboot 26 times, please hang on; now
doing cycle 8 of 26". (Numbers are made up.) It doesn't, but just
    knowing about it is helpful.
Perhaps worth redoing the install once more and making a note of how
long it really takes from beginning to end when it does work.
I still don't know if the process I described in the first post was
really stuck because of some other error or whether it would have
ended eventually. If I wanted to be really sure I could re-restore
everything on that hard disk once more.
I have no idea whether wiping all partitions from the disk before
reinstalling did any good or not: it shouldn't have made a difference
since, as I said, I noticed that the first thing the restore program
did was redo all the partitions itself. On the other hand we have
experimental proof that the restore can work on a HD without any
    partitions.
Thanks again PauPau---the most useful thing you said, for me, was the
data point that for you it had worked. That's what made me try again
and leave the computer on indefinitely through the innumerable
    reboots, just in case.
I'll repost a definitive answer on how long a successful restore
process should take once I get round to redoing it on the supplied 320
    GB HD.

  • Qosmio G10 DVD Burner replacement

My DVD Burner failed out and needs to be replaced. It's a UJ-831S. I bought the same one but I got a CD-ROM Error at start up. I tried this new CD-ROM on another laptop (Toshiba Satellite 2800-300) and it worked fine. I think I have a problem with the configuration of my DVD Burner (c-select, master....). Do you know if can change the firmware of my DVD Burner ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alain

A released firmware that is BRAND specific (like the one I have attached... (TOSHIBA OEM)) is made to run on a Toshiba model and has been configured with the correct Cable/Master/Slave settings. As you might already know, notebook CD-drives control the required CSM settings through the Firmware that is programmed on them rather than through a "jumper setting" like on desktop versions.
(The other improvements that are mentioned in the firmware documentary are irrelevant for us,... the important note that was meant to be read is the COMPATIBILITY statement to the G10 requirements)
I made several drives work on different notebooks after applying similar firmware upgrades like this one, and (to me) this would be the normal way to go in case I bought a drive with different settings than my notebook's requirements.
The only difficult part in the whole procedure is "WHERE to find a notebook?" that has access to the CD-drive BEFORE you apply the new firmware with the changing CSM setting. In our case, he does have access to the drive on a friends notebook, so he could easily apply the upgrade on his own.
I don't want to encourage anybody to do something he is not familiar with, therefore (for the sake of remaining in safe territories and keep the adrenalin levels normal during the flashing process) the best would be exchanging the drive with a "compatible manufacturer pre-flashed with correct settings" drive.
The procedure I describe should work, but is only meant to be followed by a person, who is taking up ALL RESPONSIBILITIES ON HIS OWN to proceed with this. My part in this thread is only to discuss and explain the process (and concept) of using this specific firmware upgrade that also changes the CSM.

Please give me solution on it.

Best way to test functionality is to install original recovery image again and test hardware with factory settings.
Please use recovery DVD discs, if you have created them, or use HDD recovery option - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm

  • How can I write dual DVDs with my UJ 820S DVD burner?

hello i own a satellite notebook, and my problem is that it cannot write at dual dvds, i believe that i have to upgrade the firmware but i cant find anything, recently i had the same problem with my desktop pc and solve it when i upgrade the firmware from its own nec dvd burner, anybody knows where i can find a firmware update, or something else to solve my problem?

    Hi Chris
The CD and DVD burning and reading with different drives is a never ending story.
I use an external burner and believe me; I have tested more than 10 different medias from different manufactures.
I could burn some medias but not read and read but not burn :(
I think you should also test different DVDs.
In my user manual I have found a list with compatible CD and DVD. Possibly you will also find the same supported media list in you preinstalled user manual.

  • DVD Burner keeps encoding and won't burn my file.

Trying to burn a home made video onto a DVD and when I attempt to do it, it won't go any farther than encoding the video.  I have left it on for 2+ hours letting it encode and it won't get any higher than 60%.  I'm using Windows Movie Maker software and Windows DVD burning software.  There is no way it should be taking this long.  I am using a Toshiba Satellite L355-S7902.  Do I just need to change my DVD burning software or what?  Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think so. I bought new disks yesterday to be sure and the result is the same. Also, when in the drives, none of the disks (old or new) make any kind of not-normal noise. Everything seems normal, except neither computer can burn. Weird!
