Re: Satellite L650-116 - fan speed at 90% constantly

I have a Toshiba Satellite L650-116 psk1je...the fan speed is at 89-90% almost all the time even though I practically don't do nothing on it ... I don't have any games running or programs which require big system requirements.
The temperature of the core is between 42-45 degrees. Can the problem come from the last BIOS version 2.10 ? I tried to install a previous version of bios 1.80 but it won't let me to install it because it's older than the one I already have.

i managed to fix it up.. it was from the dust, at least that was the problem in my case.. I just blown through the holes underneath the laptop and the fan is working at normal parameters .. hope this helps for all the others who have the same problem

  • Satellite L650 1NC - fan noise

I bought the Laptop back in February 2011 and the noise of the fan got worse over time now. I have read many threads in this forum and elsewhere regarding this problem and I guess that my issues are basically the same.
Now that I have read some posts stating that the new BIOS released in september apparantly fixed the issue, I did a BIOS update myself (Version 2.3) only to encounter the same Problem again.
The fan stops as soon as the temperature is below a certain threshold, in my case according to CoreTemp this seems to be at around 50-55C. At this moment the fan turns itself off, which is also confirmed by the Health Monitor showing 0% fan speed.
This leads to the CPU temperature rising until the fan kicks in at about 55-60% fanspeed.
This process repeats itself every 15-20 seconds and is very annoying.
It gets worse though if I actually start doing something like opening an application, starting the web browser - nothing serious really, I won't even start complaining about the noise while gaming/watching movies.
The Fan speed will be at 70-75% as soon as the CPU gets some work to do.
The resulting noise is unacceptable for about 20-30 Seconds.
The noise is a major factor for me. In University I can't use it anymore as my fellow students are too distracted by its noise. At work my colleagues started to complain about it as well.
As I only use my Laptop while being out of my own office/home it is basically useless to me by now.
Has anyone else still issues after the recent BIOS updates?
Is there a way to set the fan to be always running at around 30-40%?
    Any advice is highly appreciated.

    Hello,
Im not a L650 owner and therefore I cannot provide any details about the fan behavior on this unit but I agree with you.
Anyway there are also many notebook owners (not only Toshiba notebook owner) who claim that cooling fans are running always at lower level. They would prefer other cooling method: i.e. faster fans which dont run always with the same, low speed but would start rotating only if an certain temperature level has been reached So I think it's always a matter of opinion.
By the way: I found some threads which provide some proposals how to improve the fan activity:
    +1st Proposal:+
    +Cooling Method: Maxim Performance+
    +Intel Turbo boost Technology: Enable+
    +CPU Frequency mode: Always low+
    +2nd Proposal:+
    +Cooling Method: Battery Optimized+
    +Intel Turbo boost Technology: Disable+
    +CPU Frequency mode: Always high+
+Here you can find the single options:+
    +<Setting Method>+
    +Changes in Operating System:+
+Control Panel --> Power Options --> Change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings --> Cooling Method+
    +Changes in Bios (Power Management):+
    +Intel Turbo boost Technology+
    +Changes in Operating System:+
    +TOSHIBA HW Setup --> CPU Frequency mode+
I think its worth a check

  • Satellite L650-16W - Fan doesnt (re)start after standby

Hello i own a Satellite L650-16W and after standby-mode the fan doesnt start again. So the temperature increases untill a reboot is necessary. After the reboot the fan works correctly again. I own this notebook for about 4 month and at the beginning this problem didnt appear.
Ive tried to update the bios but it seems to be the actual version. And i dont find any options to put the fan manually on again. So maybe anybody has got the same problem or a solution.
    Thanks for your help.

Bios reflash is a a little bit tricky procedure and if it goes wrong you will get a black screen. Note, the warranty doesn't cover bios reflash failure. Go to the toshiba driver page:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp and choose the right Bios for your model
If Bios version on toshiba driver page is the same with installed one yoyr lap, download it anyway and run it. Read carefully instructions how to reflash it:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=60
you may get a message while reflashing the current version is already installed....
Anyway, before all, I advise to restore the factory settings to be sure that isn't OS related issue.

  • Fan speed on 70% constantly

    HI
    Ive recently purchased a toshiba satellite a660 11m(s6065) with i7 q720 cpu.
This is my first laptop so i dont know anything about fan speed and heat
Anyway it runs constantly on 70% fan speed no matter what im doing, so im wondering if that's normal?
Temperature is on 55C on avrg.
My only complaint about this laptop is slow booting time, it takes 6-7mins to fully boot up(im using win7 64bit).
    Thx in advance...

  • CPU fan speed on high constantly

The CPU fan on my i7 920 runs only at max speed.  If i do clear cmos, the fans go back to normal but after restarting the comp, the fans go back up to max speed.  How can I fix this?  I am using MSI X58 Platinum with bios 1.3.

Hi, please provide a little more information:
    1) Is your CPU Fan attached to the 4-Pin CPUFan-PWM-Header of the board?
    2) Are you using a 4-Pin-PWM Fan?  How many wires does it have?
    3) What are your SmartFan Settings in the H/W Monitor Section of the BIOS Setup?
    4) Do you have Dual Core Center installed on your system or any other tool that may be able to have an influence on the system's fan speed?
    5) Please download Core Temp or Real Temp to check your CPU's Core Temperatures while the system is IDLE and when it is under full load.  If the problem is not the fan, it's connection to the board or a BIOS Setting, your fan may simply be forced to run on full speed because the CPU is running to hot.

  • Satellite C850 - Low fan speed after BIOS update

    Hello,
So I have my Satellite C850-PSKCEV bios updated around 6 months ago to version 6.80 (I bought my laptop in 2012), and since then the fan is running at low speeds and will never run full speed as before, and as a consequence the laptop overheats prematurely and very fast, and even when the laptop is not in use but left running it does overheat, also gaming is not even possible as any game that I run (even with the lowest settings) gets a fps drop every 5 seconds and lasts 5-10 seconds which renders even the lightest games unplayable, also I am afraid of the continuous overheat to damage the laptop's internal components.
I did clean the fan and vents from dust and there is not even one particle inside them and yet the fan won't run fast and I can't feel but very slight airflow from the vents as apposed to the strong one before this problem.

  • Satellite L650-11- fan constantly at 90%, after sleep mode constantly 0%

    Hi
    I've got a Toshiba L650-11F with an
    intel i5 M430 at 2.3 GHz
    4GB Ram
    latest BIOS version 2.4
And i've tried cleaning the fan rebooting with/without adaptor, change the power setting.
But no succes fan stil keeps at 90% all the time. And does not spin after it goes into sleep mode.
I hope someone here can help me.

    Hi
What Windows system do you use?
Did you notice this issue since first day?
In my opinion the CPU could be stressed by an process which is running in the background. This means that the CPU runs at 80-100% and this means that cooling system run faster in order to cool down the CPU.
I think you should start the task manager and should check the running processes.
There you can see the processes which would use a lot of the CPU performance.
Possibly such processes belongs to installed software or tools so if you dont know exactly what a single process does, google to get more details about this process.
Easier solution??? Well, it would be interesting to know if fresh OS installation would help to avoid this I think its worth a check...

  • Fan speed increases and windows 7 freeze on my Satellite A200

I am using Toshiba Satellite A200-24A (PSAE3E) from 3 years now. It came pre-installed with Vista. Last year i switched to Winows 7 Ultimate. Everything was fine.
4 months ago, i switched to Windows 7 Enterprise N. Hated to see no Windows Media Player in it. Now the problem is, during online video streaming (not always the case), my fan speed inceases, so do its sound, and my hard drive gets real busy. 10 seconds later, my window is freezed. Actually, its not responding due to excessive hard drive usage.
I read many articles over the internet, lots of toshiba users are facing the same problem when using Windows 7. But, i couldn't find any solution to it.
This problem started 3 months ago, then for sometimes, it stopped itself. now, it started again 3 weeks ago. If anyone can help me regarding this issue, i will me more than grateful.
    Here are my specs:
    Windows 7 Enterprise N. Service Pace 1
    1.73 Dual core
    Ram 3GB
Hard Disk partitions 75 GB + 75 GB

I presume CPU usage goes to 100% and result is freezing. Can you identify background process that can be responsible for this?
    > I read many articles over the internet, lots of toshiba users are facing the same problem when using Windows 7. But, i couldn't find any solution to it.
Your opinion is too general. Lot of Toshiba users have a lot of different problems with Windows7. My notebook was also delivered with Vista and since one year I use Win7 32bit and everything works perfectly.
    > This problem started 3 months ago...
This make the whole situation more complicated. What have you done 3 months ago? Have you changed some settings, installed some additional software that can be responsible for this?
Unfortunately it is not easy to help in this situation.

  • Satellite L650 - Fan constantly at 90%

I have a L650. My cooling fan constantly cools at 90%, exept if I turn on the computer after a standby, then the fan does start at all! So for me its either 90% or nothing!
I have the newest BIOS, so that not the problem, and changing power management settings doesn't help either
Anyone have any ideas or is it just sending the computer back for repairs? The damn thing is only 5 month old :(

Its all original toshiba software. All drivers are updated including BIOS and GPU. I know its possibly to change power settings in windows, but its changes nothing, its still fanning at 90%... Except after a standby session, then the fan doesn't start at all, causing warnings and overheating... All in all, it doesn't matter what the core temperatures are, it keeps cooling at high fan speed.

  • Satellite C855 - Average CPU temperature and fan speed

    Hello!
I've had this toshiba Satellite C855 since march this year. it's only recently that the CPU temp and Fan speeds have been worrying me.
When I'm not playing games or doing a livestream my CPU temp stays around 35-40% with the fanspeed at steady 50% or not on at all due to it been cool.
When I do play games however the fanspeed is going up to around 66-68% with the CPU been around 55-60%
I was wondering if this is normal? or do I need to clean it out by taking it apart. if it is the second option then I am worried since I do not want to damage anything inside. plus I am not that great with the inner workings of a computer.
Any help or information would be very appreciated thanks.

In my opinion there is no reason for panic. T is logic that under stress CPU activity is higher and CPU produces more heat. Notebook must be cooled down properly so sensors that control cooling fans register growing temperature and cooling fans will run on higher speed.
There is no reason for cleaning. And one day if that must be done please dont do it alone. You are not authorized for doing this.

  • Satellite R830-1GZ - CPU usage high ( 25%) and fan speed increase after wakeup

    Hello all
The CPU usage of my laptop shoots up to 25% (and beyond) and the fan speed increases dramatically after waking up, but only when I'm using an external mouse (Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000) - disconnecting the mouse once this has happened does not solve the problem, so I'm always forced to restart my computer if I have let it go to sleep with the mouse connected.
I've noticed that when this happens System Interrupts - Deferred Procedure Calls and Interrupt Service Routines appears in the Resource monitor>CPU>Processes, and seems to explain the increase in CPU usage.
Any ideas on how to fix this would be most appreciated.
I'm using a Toshiba Satellite R830-1GZ with Windows 7 (64 bit). This problem does not happen when I use the same mouse with another laptop (Dell with Windows XP).
    Thank you very much.
    CM

    Thank you for your reply.
I was using the mouse without installing the software that came with it (IntelliPoint), which seems to have been necessary to obtain the latest driver. So I've installed the latest driver now, but... I've still come across the same high CPU usage problem after wakeup.
If your suspicion is correct, should disconnecting the mouse before putting the computer to sleep (hopefully allowing the process that controls the mouse to close properly) stop this problem from occurring when it wakes up?
Could this problem also occur due to an external keyboard? I'm pretty sure it's the mouse (given my experience of using only the external mouse and only the external keyboard) and my understanding is that keyboards don't require special drivers (at least the A4Tech one I have claims it doesn't)... just trying to exclude all possibilities.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Satellite A100: looking for software to control the fan speed

    Hi,
I'm looking for software to control/read out the fan speed of my laptop, because Power Saver does not seem to do anything. It does not seem to matter if i set the 'Cooling Method' to 'Battery Optimized' or 'Maximum Performance', or even the fixed CPU processing speed. I've (de)installed the Common Module & Power Saver a couple of times to no avail.
Also SpeedFan & NHC do not work.

    Hi
Sorry but I do not agree with your opinion about Power saver utility. Do you really believe that Toshiba create tool like this for nothing? Just for info: power saver utility is not available with Vista OS and on this forum you can find topics where people really missing this nice and useful utility.
Anyway it is well known that many tools you can find on the internet have no much influence on notebook cooling fan speed. To be honest, something like that can be very dangerous because most users want to have silent notebooks and overheating issues are totally underestimated.
Can you please be a little bit more specific about your problem? Is your notebook too loud for you or is battery running time to short? Why you are not satisfied with this tool?

  • How to control fan speed on Satellite A660-11M?

please any body know how to control fan speed its always 69% and make bad noise and the cpu usage is 3% no at high processing i try advanced power settings but still runing at high speed

    > I hope u didnt expect that they were gonna stay at 0% like forever
Of course I dont expect this. When you switch on the notebook CPU reach high temperature in few seconds only and you must not wonder if pretty high CPU temperature and fan activity will be shown very soon.
I dont know what do you expect but it is logic that cooling fan will run. Maybe all time maybe will be cut off for short period of time but it will run permanently. I dont see any problem there. With cooling method option it can be reduced a little bit.
And what is your question? I didnt understand what you want to know exactly.

  • Satellite P750-10R idle temp and fan speed

I have just received a P750-10R and I am wondering if the idle temp and fan speed is normal. I do not have it on eco mode and the processor is at around 50 on core 1 and 47on core 2. According to the Health Monitor the fan runs at 71% speed which is rather loud in my opinion.
The ambient temp here is not very high, maybe 21-23 celcius.
Does anyone have a similar model that behaves the same way?
    Regards,
    Danel

    Small update on the issue.
Switching to eco mode will shut off the fan for a short time. Switching back from eco mode puts the fan immediately at approx. 67% speed, no matter what is running at the time. Fan doesn't seem to run at any speed under 67% but can go higher.
Could it possibly be the recent bios update? I didn't run the computer for very long on the bios it shipped with, so I haven't got a comparison base between the two versions.
    Regards,
    Danel
