  • Satellite L855 - 13G - can not adjust the brightness after update to Win8

    Hello
After update to windows 8 , and installed the latest AMD driver on Toshiba site, I can not adjust the screen brightness using the Fn F2 or F3.
    In this thread : http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=69752&tstart=45
He say he solved her problem but how ?
I have installed the Value Added Package, but no change
    Thanks

    Hi
Download the latest driver from Toshiba EU driver page.
Now uninstall the preinstalled driver in device manager (in device manager choose graphic card AMD/ATI and then choose uninstall driver).
After new reboot I recommend installing the driver from Toshiba page.

  • F5 and F6 keys (MacBook Pro) do not adjust screen brightness after upgrade to OS X Lion

    Hi All,
since "upgrading" my MacBook Pro from Snow Leopard to Lion, the F5 and F6 keys for adjusting the monitor brightness do not work anymore! No matter how I set the settings for the monitor, the keys do not work.
Sometimes, the MacBook now just uses a low brightness and the only way to modify this is to open the system settings and change it there.
Does anyone know how to fix this so that it works properly (like in Snow Leopard) ?
    Thanks,
    Kristian.

The screen brightness adjustment is F1 and F2.
You can also adjust in System Preferences > Displays.

  • Can't adjust screen brightness.

On my Tecra R840-S830, I recently reinstalled Windows 7 64 bit and I thought I installed the drivers I needed. My flashcard functions are working perfectly except that FN-F6 and FN-F7 will not adjust the screen brightness. I can also find no other way to adjust the brightness-It doesn't appear in power options or display settings. Any ideas? Am I missing a specific driver?

    Tecra R840-S830
    Maybe this one?

Instead of struggling to get the install order correct, you should restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media.

  • Can't Adjust Screen Brightness MBP 2010

Hi everybody, this issue is driving me nuts!
I've browsed all the sections on this forum and numerous threads and still no dice... Here's my issue:
-I own an late 2010 MacBook Pro (iOS dev machine), which was working perfectly up to the point where I had to update to Mountain Lion 10.8.5
After the update, brightness control on the keyboard is gone (F1 and F2 are duds), also no manual control anywhere else...what gives??
I've done all the SMC reset mumbo-jumbo without any avail....seriously, it sounds like the old fix for windows 98..."just reboot and it will be fine...or not". I also won't accept "go to a genious bar" as answer, since that doens't exist on these parts and any "procedure" over a apple device will take over a month to be done with.
    So my questions are:
1-What where they thinking when they removed the frigging slider from settings?? Do they take us for some sort of idiots that can't be trusted to handle their brightness without using the keyboard?
2-Why can't I change the brightness on my $2500 laptop after a software update? Pray, do explain how this has come to be?
3-Is there any command (using terminal) that I can run to permanently set the brightness level or just to, you know...change it?
4-I'd like to scale this issue with a formal complaint towards apple, I find this to be unacceptable as a customer and I'd like to give them a piece of my mind. Can someone point me out on the proper path to do this?

  • Can't adjust screen brightness on Acer Aspire One anymore

It used to work before, but now that kernel26-one-dev is really outdated, I've started using the standard Arch kernel26 package. I can't adjust brightness with the fn keys, and GNOME's brightness adjustment applet says it's unable to get laptop brightness read.
I guess it could be acpid related, /sys/class/backlight/ is empty, but I'm currently doing a full system upgrade and will update the thread if that solves it.

  • I can't adjust screen brightness

It happens the first time, when I hit F1 and F2 to adjust the brightness, the icon shows only one notch at the dimmest, the screen is at the brightest setting, hit F2 nothing happened, it stayed the same, reboot and it works again. Any idea? Thanks

It's happened to me the once. For me a restart resolved it and suspect putting my MBP back to sleep and waking again would too but anyway.
What appears to be happening is that when your MBP wakes it is failing to recognise the state of your display brightness when it is put to sleep so in a state on confusion it just sets itself at max brightness. The problem arises when software think the display is not at max brightness and get errors when it tries to raise brightness.
I've since reported this to Apple so hopefully something will come of it.

  • HP ProBook 4510s: Can't adjust screen brightness

It seems to be a recurrent problem and I try everything I can to solve this by myself but I do not have any solution left so here it goes.
I have installed archlinux and gnome 3, everything is up to date but I can't set the screen brightness (I am using the xf86-video-ati drivers with a Radeon mobility HD4300). I can't set it via the gnome control center, via xbacklight or setpci. When I try the fn keys, I get this message:
"No backlights were found on your system",
By googling, I tried to add the acpi_backlight=vendor and acpi_osi=Linux or acpi_osi="" to the kernel line but still the same message. I installed the linux-kamal kernel but still not working. I have no entry in /sys/class/backlight and no video folder in /proc/acpi so I can't set the brightness with echo <some value>.
Maybe someone could help me since I don't know what to do now and the brightness is locked to 100%, really hurting my eyes.

    http://www.linlap.com/wiki/hp+elitebook+8460p
Try to disable acpi boot kernel with option “acpi=off” .
When it works, there must be bug in BIOS or ACPI on at model,

  • Updated to windows 8.1 now can't adjust screen brightness

Basically I have been avoiding this update for a while now because I was quite happy with my hp laptop without it, but then a couple days ago my laptop decided to do the update automatically. So everything was fine until it rebooted and I realised my sound control buttons and brightness buttons had stopped working completely. I sorted the sound control easily on one of these forums but I have been having so much trouble trying to fix the brightness controls. This is really annoying me as the brightness is turned up fully and it is really hurting my eyes.
I have tried updating both the 'AMD Radeon HD 7600M Series' and the 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' on the device manager which has not worked at all.
    Please can someone help!

    Hi @gsh987  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Notebook and the brightness control on Windows 8.1 not working correctly after an update. I would uninstall all the display adapters that are in the device manager and restart the Notebook. Check to see if if it put an adapter back in , right click on the driver and update.
If that does not help I would uninstall the Graphics drivers restart the Notebook and it should reinstall the correct driver for you.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating.
I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Can't adjust screen brightness on Windows 7

Running on my late 2011' MacBook Pro 15" with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1. I have an AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics card. I have tried uninstalling the driver and what not. I can't seem to find a catalyst that will work. It always tells me that I don't have a proper graphics adapter.
This is my 3rd time posting this, I'm hoping someone will have an answer.

Well, I should elaborate more on the methods I have tried. (Also I am using a MacBook Pro, however that doesn't matter really) I have tried uninstalling my graphics card driver in 'Device Manager', I have tried using catalyst to install the driver (I'm using an AMD Radeon HD 6750M), I have downloaded 'Windows Support' through Bootcamp and have reinstalled Bootcamp on Windows 7 and tried using the drivers provided but nothing has worked. I have even tried this, Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings > slide control to 'Never notify' > Reboot, with no luck.
Also, thank you for the response.

  • Why not adjustable screen brightness?

I had lenovo n580a recently with Windows 8 with 64bit preloaded.I got bored with Windows 8 hence downgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
Windows 7 worked very fine after installing the device drivers except for the LCD brightness that doesn't respond to any fine adjustments.
In the main page of Windows Power Managemet  as well as the keyboard hotkeys, the slider either goes to the maximum or minimum brightness (no stages in between though in Windows 8 there were more than 6 stages)
In the advanced settings screen, as far as I adjust brightness (for example to 50% on battery, 70% plugged in) this doesn't lead to any change in the brightness practically.
    How to solve this?

Go into the control panel and then to the admin tools and then to services. See if Adaptive Brightness is turned on. Also check in your device manager in the control panel and make sure your device driver for your monitor is correct.

This is a known bug in the power manager logic within fedora 15. They are testing the package before it makes officially to the repository.
If you want to try it, out run the following command in the bash shell
    su -c 'yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update gnome-power-manager'
Also try to disable screen dimming via the control center. Hope this helps you out

  • Lenovo P400 cant adjust screen brightness

Updated to windows 8.1 and now can not adjust my screen brightness on my Lenovo P400. I tried updating the display driver through the device manager and it told me there were no available updates.

    Hi,
Have you tried the method above for test?
Generally speaking, this problem probably caused by Graphic driver problem, please check and make sure your Graphic driver is compatible with Windows 8.1.
In addition, also make sure your motherboard and chipset driver was upgraded to be latest.
If possible, also please upgrade your BIOS to be latest.one
    Be warned.
Flashing BIOS is a risky process.  If power is interrupted during the update your machine will be rendered unusable.
