Re: Satellite U400 - Is a graphic card required to play DVDs?

I have a Toshiba U400 Satellite notebook which has shared graphics with the CPU, not a dedicated graphics card. Will the notebook play DVDs ok without pausing and/or freezing up? I guess the dedicated graphics card assists with DVD playback? I realise that dedicated graphics cards are good for games and necessary to run some demanding games but is the shared graphics more than capable of DVD movie play?
Look forward to your response,
Thanks.

Hi
You can play DVDs using a notebook which was equipped with an simply and common graphic card. You dont need any powerful graphic chips in order to watch DVDs.
Ive got a U400 with an Intel graphic chip and guess what; I can watch movies from HDD, DVD or internet stream!

  • Graphics Card requirement

I just downloaded Pixel Bender plug-in, but I get an error message that my graphics card can't handle the image. What's the graphics card requirements for PB? I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT in an aging MacPro. Thanks. Jim

I tried a 600x400 jpg and pixel bender worked. I reduced to 4000x2680 a 12 mega pixel capture from my D300 and while pixel bender launched without an error message, it froze the system when I tried to use a filter; power off button was the only way to restart. I guess my equiment is too old, or the plug-ins too unrefined for serious work. Thanks for the suggestion. Jim

  • (bootcamp) graphics card crash when playing games

Firstly apologies if I've put this in the wrong section of the forum... this is the most applicable I could find.
Having tried to enquire at the good folks of AMD, they told me I needed to see apple. Finding a support email is nigh on impossile - so either that or advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated!
I have a boot camp partition on a mid 2011 macbook pro - my graphics card is Radeon HD 6750M.
I have recently been experiencing graphics card crashes when playing games.
There is no boot camp update available, so I am forced to update the driver manually. Trying to use the automated detection/installation tool on the ATI site resulted in the error "your computer doesn't have a proper graphics adapter"
When I located and downloaded the mac bootcamp drivers from the ATI site site, and I tried to install these it was unable to detect my existing microsoft C++ distributable or install its own - so the installation failed.
    All advice welcome!

yeah - it *might* have fixed my issue - or at least it hasn't crashed yet... jynxed it now ofcourse ;p I have acouple of questions though...
Why did this just start happening - I've played other games and this game before without these crashing issues?
I'm worried about configuring this fan thing correctly - lots of 'if your hardware gets damages it's not my problem' warnings on the software site. I know there's only 4 options - how do I ensure I select the right one? ie I thought I had a unibody macbook pro but it can't find the second GPU?

  • Photoshop cs4 Graphic Card Requirements!!

Hello Guyz!!  I wanted to learn Photoshop CS4 on my Dell Precision 670 Intel Xeon 2.8 Ghz × 2.8 Ghz With 2Gb of Ram and Graphic Card Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series of 128 MB n I am using Windows 7 Ultimate!! Now, I can't "Enable OpenGL Drawing" in Photoshop and I guess I will have to change my graphic card to help  the cause!! Please Suggest a Graphic Card that should work well throughout my Photoshop Learning Process!! Thanks

LOL, there are 1000's of documents explaining it. You are way over thinking it.
32 bit OS can only handle 4 gigs worth of memory addresses. period.   That's not saying all video ram is in use all the time, but that all video ram it is available at all times. In order for it to be available it needs to have an address so the OS can send data to it. That memory addressing is reserved at boot as a hardware requirement. In order to reserve the memory locations for hardware memory it has to use part of its 4 gig limited addressing and specify it as hardware. once its out of addresses... no more memory can BE addresed, its just that simple.
If windows reserves 1 gig of address space for hard ware, it can not address more then 3 gigs of RAM. It is that simple.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605/en-us
"If a computer has 4 gigabytes (GB) of random-access memory (RAM) installed, the system memory that is reported in the System Information dialog box in Windows Vista is less than you expect. "
    Answer:
"This behavior is the expected result of certain hardware and software factors.
Various devices in a typical computer require memory-mapped access. This is known as memory-mapped I/O (MMIO). For the MMIO space to be available to 32-bit operating systems, the MMIO space must reside within the first 4 GB of address space.
For example, if you have a video card that has 256 MB of onboard memory, that memory must be mapped within the first 4 GB of address space. If 4 GB of system memory is already installed, part of that address space must be reserved by the graphics memory mapping. Graphics memory mapping overwrites a part of the system memory. These conditions reduce the total amount of system memory that is available to the operating system.
The reduction in available system memory depends on the devices that are installed in the computer. However, to avoid potential driver compatibility issues, the 32-bit versions of Windows Vista limit the total available memory to 3.12 GB. See the "More information" section for information about potential driver compatibility issues.
If a computer has many installed devices, the available memory may be reduced to 3 GB or less. However, the maximum memory available in 32-bit versions of Windows Vista is typically 3.12 GB."

  • Aperture graphics card requirements

When I purchased my Mac Pro, I configured an upgraded video card (X1900) to meet the minimum Aperture capability requirements, anticipating Aperture would be in my future. When Aperture provided the ability in v1.5 to reference files in user locations, I purchased this, upgraded it to v1.5.6 over time and used it successfully until the slow performance and bugs drove me to Lightroom. I presenly manage 38.000 images in this environment.
When v2.0 came out, I successfully downloaded and ran the trial version to check it out, but had no reason to move back at that time. Today, when I have again run the latest Aperture Checker before proceeding to checkout with the v2 upgrade in my cart at the Apple Store, I find "Aperture cannot be installed on this computer"!
Whew - that was a near thing. But when I check why this could be, there are only three requirements - 2.0GHz Intel dual processor (I've got 3.0GHz), 2GB memory (I've got 2GB), and (among others) an X1900 XT graphics card!
Is this correct? Has the minimum graphics requirement been stepped up since v2 was first released? Is there any guarantee that even if I was to upgrade my graphics card (which I'm not inclined to do - Lightroom runs great), the requirement wouldn't be hoisted again after I'm hooked in? I'm worried I have narrowly avoided one bait and switch, but could be the victim of another in the near term.
Can someone please provide me with some reliable buying advice?

    W.W. Webster wrote:
Correction - checking more closely, my graphics card IS an X1900 XT. Now I really am confused! The problem can't be memory - it must be processor...
Actually the problem quite likely is inadequate RAM; it definitely is not the processor. In real world operation having just 2 GB of RAM in a Mac Pro is very substantially underpowered (no matter what the "application requirements" may state), and 8 GB RAM from a vendor like OWC <http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/pc> costs less than US$200.
My MP and MBP both (except for RAM) are much weaker than your MP and they both have driven all versions of Aperture just fine. Currently my MP is running the stock 7300 card.
If you still have problems after adequate RAM is on board then either a hardware flaw or setup issue exists.
Check also to make sure that none of the hard drives are too full, and with 38k images I strongly recommend that when you trial Aperture you use a Referenced-Masters Library rather than the (default) Managed-Masters Library. From within Aperture, import images from the hard drive folder into Aperture selecting "Store files in their current location." During import also is a good time to add keywords, but that is another discussion.

  • Lightroom graphics card requirements?

I'm looking to get Photoshop CC & Lightroom shortly and note that the system requirements for Lightroom state 'Directx 10-capable or later graphics card'.
My graphics card is an NVidia Geforce 7900 GS which says  it has DirectX support of 9.0c; however I'm running Windows 7 which say it's running DirectX 11.
So which is it ? Or does it mean Windows 7 is capable of runnig DirectX 11 but only if the card supports it too?
More importantly, will Lightroom run OK / at all ??
    PS CS6 runs fine...

    Hi guys,
I'm having problems with Lightroom - it freezes during/after loading. My pc is relatively old ([email protected], 4GB DDR2, GeForce 9600gt). I thought that the problem was in memory, but actually, RAM was ok, and CPU is getting stuck - Lightroom takes 100% of one core and hangs.
What should I do? My graphics card supports DirectX 9 and I have DirectX 11 installed - could that be a problem? The cheapest solution would be changing GPU, but will it work?

I was able to run final cut express on my imac and it has the same ATY, RadeonX1600 graphics card as my macbook pro but when i try to start up FCE on my macbook it says a AGP graphics card is required? How do i fix this? I know i dont need a different graphics card because it was working fine on my imac. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Satellite L500D-16L update graphics card drivers

I'm trying to play Harry Potter 1-4 on my laptop but it hasn't installed properly and bugs in the 1st scene. I contacted the game manufacturers about it and they told me to update my graphics card drivers but I can't find where they are on this site. Does anyone know how and where I can update the drivers?

    Hi mate
All Toshiba drivers can be found on the Toshiba European driver page:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
Satellite L500D-16L belongs to the PSLT9E series.
You will have to choose this in order to get all drivers for the notebook.
But in many cases the driver versions are not similar to the latest versions available on graphic card manufacturer pages.
The point it that Toshiba drivers are modified and released fro mobile usage the ATI/NVidia drivers dont support overheating protection which helps to control the GPU temperature.
So usage of such drivers is always at you own risk

  • AUTODESK MAYA & MUDBOX GRAPHIC CARD REQUIREMENTS

    Hi!
this is Mojopicon, from Madrid Spain...
I'm just breaking my head trying to find any solution to my 3D modeling problems
Autodesk Mudbox does not work in my mac, Autodesk Maya works but not as well as i need...
I believe that all problems comes from my graphic card, ... but i'm not sure,
My doubt is how to identify the problem (I took my computer to a top reseller and the technical service told that every worked nice...) and if in the case that i decide to buy a new graphic card wich brand and model could i buy...
last month phoning Apple service in Spain (not really, the Spanish attemption i thought is in Greece) nobody could help me...
no body knows wich graphic card i need...
    Could you help me?¿?¿
in addition of the upper information i have another question, taking a look of pro graphic cards, i'm finding expensive prices... by this way i do not know exactly if i can make a investmet and buy a new mac pro (turning my old mac in a mini render farm together with the new computer..) is it a nice idea or not?¿
the graphic card: ATI 5770 1Gb or ATI 5870 that are the common GCard on the store are nice for 3D development or not?¿?¿?
    thank you to everybody
    best regards

The ATI 5870/5770 are, for now, the only cards being sold or offered.
There will be a Quadro 4000 $1200 (US price) vs $770 for PC, but that requires 2008 or later (2009 preferably).
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H3314LL/A
With only one PCI slot that can be configured as 16 lanes, there are limitations.
    currently your Mac has?
    Nvidia 8800GT
    ATI Radeon X1900
    OEM 7300GT
    ATI Radeon 4870
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shopmac/mac_accessories/displays?n=graphiccards
I think you really want something that will run 10.6.5, boot into 64-bit kernel mode, can run the Q4000 and has two 16x slots, and, is more powerful. If possible. MacPro 1,1 still sell in the US$1,000 range.
You could buy the 5770 and try it, no loss as it would work as 2nd card in newer Mac too. Or up the value of your Mac.

  • Satellite C50-A-1DV - Graphics card replacement

Hypothetically, If I wanted to replace the graphics card in my Satellite C50-A-1DV, how would I go about it?
And If i had to send my laptop in, how much would it cost?

At first I must say that GPU replacement or upgrade is officially not supported and any action in this direction is on your own risk.
Please note that notebook disassembling will cancel valid warranty.
But we are discussing hypotheticallyabout all this.
What you must do is to obtain new GPU, disassemble your notebook, exchange it and put your notebook together.
On some notebook models GPU is fixed on the mainboard and cannot be exchanged. I dont know how it is on your machine.
    > And If i had to send my laptop in, how much would it cost?
If GPU is defective and warranty still valid best option for you is o contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. In case that you want to do upgrade, Toshiba service will not help you with this.
Can you please tell us what is the problem with your machine and original graphic card?

  • Satellite U500 - Upgrading the graphic card?

    Hi,
I'm a serious gamer but unfortunately the laptop I ended up with isnt the best for it. ToshibaSatelite U500 with 4GB RAM and intel Core 2 Duo, 2.53 GHz. the main problem is the graphics card which is as basic as it gets and so I cant play all the good games.
I see the graphics card is attached to the motherboard; if I change the motherboard can I get one with a powerful top of the line graphics card? help!

    Hi okoene,
Unfortunately such a graphic card upgrade is not possible and also there are no other mainboards available with more powerful graphic card.
    You should check this document:

  • Satellite P850-133 - extended graphics card is not working

    Hi!
I just got home my 2 new p850-133 and reinstalled they with a fresh copy of Windows 7, and then the extended graphics card not working, it says "code 10" can't start, what should i do, the integrated intel hd4000 is working really great.

    Hi
The notebook is equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce GT630M GPU.
The Toshiba European driver page provides 3 different display drivers!
2 drivers are for nVidia GPU (v296.0 for 3D and v296.01) and one for Intel (v 8.15.10.2712).
You have to install Intel driver and one of the nVidia drivers.

  • Satellite L300-145 (PSLB0E) - graphic card, LAN and WLan missing

    Hi,
I've recently reinstalled windows Vista Home Premium but now I have some drivers missing.
The graphic card and both Lan and WLan are missing.
I've download and installed both Lan and graphic card controllers but i can't find the right WLan.
The problem is that, the USB Wlan card is not reconnized and is showing as "Unkown Device".
I looked under the properties inspector and i found that product id shows 2 values: USB\VID_0BdA%PID_8197&REV_0200 and USB\VID_0BA&PID_8197 and is found at Port_#0006Hub_#0007 also, under name of fisical object i find it to be \Device\USBPDO-9.
I'm not totally sure that this is the Wlan card but since is the only thing that's working correctly i figure that's it. I've tried intel, antheros and realtek drivers, allways reinstalling the previous one so no conflicts would happen, but still nothing happens and windows still doesen't reconnize itm so
Please, what's the card name and where can I find the RIGHT controller for it?

    Hi
First of all you really get all drivers for your notebook on the Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
The drivers are pretested so I can not imagine that none of them are working.
On this website http://www.pcidatabase.com I have searched for this vendor ID but I cant find anything. Only with the device ID 8197 it shows a Realtek WLAN card so I suppose you have to use this driver.
Please check it again!!! Make sure that you have installed SP2 at least and before you install the WLAN driver again, remove all other versions and clean the system using CCleaner.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 - CPU graphics card overheat?

16 days ago my tosh Sat Pro 4600 lost the ability to maintaing 25 fps in an online game - ie. diablo 2.
It now plays at an average of 4 fps and ping gets up to over 4000... needless to say unplayable now...
I have reinstalled the game... installed new XP and game on drive D....
Same thing.... a program called SpeedswitchXP shows CPU usage fluctuating from 54 to 420 because the CPU mhz on the general tab of my computer shows 422 now, not the 847 mhz it used to.
It still surfs the net and plays yahoo card games eg. at lightning speed but not an online rpg... it has working perfectly at average of 25 fps for 3 years ... Irreparably overheated / damaged CPU ... graphics card ?
Anyone know? Another temp. program shows it running at 64C worth a new motherboard?
Can i get one? Any ideas?

    Hi
First of all you have to know that the CPU and the GPU performances are dynamically.
This means that the speed and the performance changes if the temperature rises to a critical level.
This could lead to the worse performance.
In your case the notebook is about 3 years old and I think its time to clean the ventilators to prevent the notebook from the overheating.
You could try to use the professional compressed air spray to get rid of the dust and debris.
Such spays you can purchase from computer dealer.
