Re: Sattelite M305D-S4830 Volume Dial Strange Behavior

Hello, I am having a strange issue with my volume control dial on the Satellite M305D-S4830. I am not sure when this error began happening, but now my volume control dial produces the letters C and B when I roll it clockwise/counterclockwise. here, I'll roll it cw/c-cw right now:
ccccccccccccbccccccccccccccccccccbbccccc
It produces the b's less often than the c's as you can see. Also, it does adjust volume bar but erratically: when I roll it clockwise it decreases the volume and then sharply increases the volume immediately. Rotating it counter-clockwise does increase the volume sharply and sometimes it decreases the volume a little bit.
I have the latest drivers for my Satellite and have not altered the OS or Services (such as HID Input service) in any way. I have tried using a previous driver version for the sound but this has not changed anything. Thanks for your time.

Hi
Someone had a similar issue. I read about this here in one of threads (if you want use the search option).
The point is that the technician has cleaned the volume wheel (contacts, etc...) and this solves this issue.
I dont know if this is a same reason in your case but its worth a try
Note; dont disassemble the notebook or similar!!! This can be done ONLY by ASP due to some hardware damage and warranty validity!
PS: Of course the BIOS update is advisable too.

  • Strange behavior of system with enabled FileVault2, Roaming profile

    Hello,
I have encountered strange behavor of my Macbook Air after some testing.
Macbook Air 2012 was newly installed with 10.8.4 and joined network account server on 10.8.4 server with Roaming profile (synced with server home directory). After installing some basic apps like iWork I turned on FileVault.
Then I start to have the strange behavior - iWorks are not displaying content of document - it seams blank - just white screen without any borders where should be at least lines in numbers or empty cells.
Another display problem is in Safari. On same pages (even default Top SItes) it`s flashing and especially when scrolling.
Did you encountered something similar? I`m not able to get rid of it.
Computers was used for some time before turining on FIle Vault and problem started to occur after this action. Disabling of FileVault didn`t helped (properly restarted between steps).
I didn`t found anything strange in Console or elsewhere..

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Strange behavior after suspend.

    Hi,
For some time I have a strange behavior of my system after I awake my computer(after suspend). This problem don't disappear after update.
Ok, so if I suspend my computer, and awake him I can't run any program. Even if i was open some application, this application crashes. I have to restart my machine.
Somebody had similar problem or know how help?
I'm using Arch Linux x64, kernel 3.8, openbox. Suspend by "systemctl suspend".

OK, maybe good idea is paste here my output journal:

  • Strange behavior on my network... Has my home system been compromised?  A disgruntled employee (sysAdmin) could have full access...worried...

I have been experiencing a lot of strange behavior on my home network ever since a disgruntled employee was let go.  He was a server admin and had root access to my home network - where I run my business.  I am getting a ton of span now, my websites were all infected with xss hacks, and many of my accounts are blacklisted.  I did a clean install and DoD erase pass on my hardware, but I still see a lot of errors and my hosts file and VMs look very odd.  not to mention the extremely odd loops in my ifconfig...  Any help?
Here is an output of 'ifconfig'

If you know or suspect that a hostile intruder has either had physical access to it, or has been able to log in remotely, then there are some steps you should take to make sure that the computer is safe to use.
First, depending on the circumstances, computer tampering may be a crime, a civil wrong, or both. If there's any chance that the matter will be the subject of legal action, then you should do nothing at all without consulting a lawyer or the police. The computer would be the principal evidence in such a case, and you don't want to contaminate that evidence.
Running any kind of "anti-virus" software is pointless. If I broke into a system and wanted to leave a back door, I could do it in a way that would be undetectable by those means—and I don't pretend to any special skill as a hacker. You have to assume that any intruder can do the same. Commercial keylogging software—which has legitimate as well as illegitimate uses—won't be recognized as malware, because it's not malware.
The only way you can be sure that the computer is not compromised is to erase at least the startup volume and restore it to something like the status quo ante. The easiest approach is to recover the entire system from a backup that predates the attack. Obviously, that's only practical if you know when the attack took place, and it was recent, and you have such a backup. You will lose all changes to data, such as email, that were made after the time of the snapshot. Some of those changes can be restored from a later backup.
If you don't know when the attack happened, or if it was too long ago for a complete rollback to be feasible, then you should erase and install OS X. If you don't already have at least two complete, independent backups of all data, then you must make them first. One backup is not enough to be safe.
When you restart after the installation, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process for a new computer. That’s when you transfer the data from a backup in Setup Assistant.
Select only users in the Setup Assistant dialog—not Applications, Other files and folders, or Computer & Network Settings. Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled.
Reinstall third-party software from original media or fresh downloads—not from a backup, which may be contaminated.
Unless you were the target of an improbably sophisticated attack, this procedure will leave you with a clean system. If you have reason to think that you were the target of a sophisticated attack, then you need expert help.
That being done, change all Internet passwords and check all financial accounts for unauthorized transactions. Do this  after the system has been secured, not before.

  • IMac mouse problems / strange behavior (impossible to configure mouse preferences)

I work in a design and communication school, the used hardware is iMac (Intel) whit Lion (OS X 10.7), we have several rooms equipped with these Macs where students light up their data on the server.
Today, 3 of these Macs had problems with the mouse, including mine.
Basically the clicks don´t work correctly. We cant close windows, open folders or change some options by clicking, but we can open softwares, scroll.
In safari if i search something, when I try to click the link i want, safari opens a new tab instead the one i am at, and has other strange behaviors. So I´ve tried to change the mouse settings, and when i make a change, for example: change the scroll button to "buttun 3" the mouse automatically assumes all buttons to dashboard, but not at the configurations window because it says that scrool button still "button 3",  when i use the click or the scroll or any button it just slid me to dashboard or a setting that has nothing to do with my option.
This is really causing a big problem since we are a school.. I already tried to change the mouse, clean, try another usb ports, search for update or restart but it still doing the same.
I think it have something to do with an update.. but not sure.. would be really gratefull if someone knows how to solve this.
As a temporary solution,i disabled all options using only the mouse click, but to do it, i had to plug in my tablet (that works perfectly for the record) and use it instead of mouse (since it was impossible to use it), than went to mouse preferences and disable left click, scroll and side buttons and then restart the Mac (or else it wont work)..
it will work fine but still a problem cause I use all mouse buttons custom as well as the students...

I have been experiencing a freezing mouse as well. I updated the mouse drivers but it is still happening. I have been repairing the permissions and noticed something very strange see the mention of a -t. I have been running unix systems since 1984 and have never seen that before....

    control of the machine.....

  • Strange behavior while plugged in

    Hi,
my X1 compact shows a strange behavior since yesterday:
I plugged it in via the USB port for charging, and it started doing crazy things. Screen brightness went flashing from low to high and back, the touchscreen showed slow or no response to pushing buttons, everything got laggy as if some kind of process was running in the background with no end. When I unplug it, it basically works normally. But - from this time on, I couldn't charge it anymore, as the charge went down instead of up when plugged in! I tried a factory reset several times (power + volume up for 3 seconds), and although it did reset, the charging problem remained. I left it turned off for one night while plugged in, and in the morning, it was just charged to 25% with the charge going down rapidly in the first couple of minutes (after 5 minutes to 11%). Now it's at 1%, but I can use it for quite a while, indicating that the displayed charge certainly isn't correct.
When I plug it in, the same things happen again and again. When plugged in, I can't even enter the PIN correctly, because touchscreen input is somehow recognized falsely.
What could that be, what could I do??
    Aleks

I'd like to, but... now it's gone from 1% to dead, and I can't bring it back to life, whether plugged in or not!
When it's plugged in, the red charging light doesn't even come up. When I hard reset it, it just vibrates as it should, but no charging light whatsoever. When I unplug it and try to start it, the red light just flashes three times.
Now I'll just try to leave it plugged in for some time, in hope that there will be enough charge to try to boot into safe mode.
But to me, it seems like some kind of hardware bug? I mean, it seems like the same problen bothers the phone even when it's shut down, so I wouldn't gess it's a problem with the apps or the system! But I just don't get why it worked all the time and then just suddenly this thing happens! I've had it now for 6 weeks, and I already had a similar problem on the second day already, but it went away with a hard reset while charging... after that, perfect charging and good battery life for 6 weeks!
    Regards,
    Aleks

  • Strange behavior when "trying" to burn a disk.

At least I think this is strange behavior, following the instructions in the help viewer, topic "Backing up your music to a CD or DVD." One thing for sure, it's not burning a disc and it ain't telling me why.
I select the playlist and click "Burn Disc"
Requests a blank disc. I insert one.
    Message "checking media"
after about a minute, the disc ejects
Message "checking media" displays another 30 seconds
    No other messages displayed.
What the ??? Shouldn't it at least display an error message??

Whoops, sorry, this was while burning a playlist.
I've also tried some Pleomax CD disks (Samsung), with no luck. I've tried burning directly from iTunes, and from Toast 7.
Of the types I've tried, the Sony DVD's have been the best for me. Haven't tried many types though. Maybe I can get disks one at a time until I find a brand my burner likes.
Still, isn't it strange that there is NO error message? It just quits?

  • Strange Behavior with gMSA in Server 2012 R2

    Greetings,
I have been doing some testing with gMSA Accounts in a Server 2012 R2 environment (two separate environments, actually), and I have noticed something very strange that occurred in both environments, which does not appear to be occurring in one of our customer's
    self-managed environments.
We created a Group Managed Service Account using the following article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfeplat/archive/2012/12/17/windows-server-2012-group-managed-service-accounts.aspx
Everything went smoothly, and the account installs/tests successfully on both of the hosts that we are testing on. I am able to set my services to run under the account, and most of them appear to work fine. I am having some issues with a few of my services,
and I believe that the strange behavior I am seeing may have something to do with this - described below:
As soon as I set the service's Log On Account (via the Log On Tab under the Service's Properties), the entirety of the "Log On" tab changes to "greyed out," and I am unable to change the Log On account back via the GUI (Screenshot
    attached).
I found that I am able to successfully change the account via Command Line using sc.exe, but the Log On tab remains greyed out! So far, I have found nothing to remedy this, but confirmed that it happens for any service I set to use the gMSA as the Logon
Account, and that it happens in 2 separate test environments, but not in a Customer's production environment - very strange.
All servers in this environment are running Server 2012 R2, and domain Functional Level is currently Server 2012.
I have been unable to find any information online about this behavior, so I am hoping someone has seen this before, and can explain why this is happening.
    Nick

    VIvian,
Yes, we used the Install-AdServiceAccount gMSA command on each host using the gMSA account, and then ran Test-AdServiceAccount gMSA, which returned "True."
However, one thing I noticed is that if I run Test-ADServiceAccount gMSA as a Local Administrator, it fails with the following:
    PS C:\Users\Administrator> Test-AdServiceAccount gMSA$
Test-AdServiceAccount : The server has rejected the client credentials.
    At line:1 char:1
    + Test-AdServiceAccount gMSA$
    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        + CategoryInfo          : SecurityError: (:) [Test-ADServiceAccount], AuthenticationException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : ActiveDirectoryCmdlet:System.Security.Authentication.AuthenticationException,Microsoft.A
       ctiveDirectory.Management.Commands.TestADServiceAccount
If I run Test-ADServiceAccount gMSA as Domain Administrator, it returns true:
    PS C:\Users\Administrator.<domainname>> Test-AdServiceAccount gMSA$
    True
    Is this normal?
Overall, I think the issue I am running into is at the Application Level, and not a problem with the gMSA, as it appears to be working. (Can Start/Stop services without any issues). I will be investigating my issue further with 3rd-party vendors, unless
you think there is something wrong with my gMSA accounts based on the information I have provided.

  • Strange Behavior from iTunes 7.2

Running itunes - 7.2Recently had my itunes library “corrupted” or non functional.
Spent a long, long time rebuilding the library (see below) and noticed some strange behavior that has me terrified that itunes is corrupted and I am going to loose all the hard work, etc..
    1. I have about 100 GB of music in various formats (apple protected/itunes store, mp3 (128 to 320), apple lossless, wav) and when I tried to rebuild the library by clicking on add to library it only added about 65 GB of the 100 GB. I had to go through and figure out what was missing and manually choose the specific folder when I added it.
Major pain and very time consuming.
So it is not adding songs correctly, but through way too much effort able to work around this.
    2. About ½ of the itunes store tunes I purchased are no longer apple protected format. Somehow they were converted to mp3 at 192kbs. Some of the songs play fine others are now not as crisp and make a poping sound or skip. How could this happen? Are these files corrupted? Will I loose them?
    3. At the top center of itunes the information bar, where the read out is for what song is playing and how much time has elapsed in the song, is not working. When I click on a song it starts playing but the elapsed time bar and counter never move, and when the next song starts playing the information never changes. It is stuck on what ever song you initiate play with by clicking on it and the information stays frozen.
    4. itunes randomly stops playing at the end of a song….If listening to an album it is usually after three or four songs and when listening to a play list it is usually after one song.
I am afraid itunes is corrupted and will not function correctly and I am going to loose the hard work I put in trying to recover from the last crash.
    Any suggestions??
Can’t wait for time machine. I hope it works as advertised. If so I could just go back in time to the last time iTunes worked correctly and go from there.

First of all I hope that you have a good b/u of all your tunes - either on ext HD or on DVD. Don't forget to b/u the iTunes Library and .xml files at the same time.
Have you tried to reinstall iTunes? Drag the app to the trash and remove the iTunesX.pkg from HD>Library>Receipts>iTunesX.pkg. Using a fresh .dmg of iTunes 7.2 reinstall.
Have you repaired permissions with Disk Utility?
Is your Quicktime up to date? At least version v7.1.5.

  • My iPods sound is iffy, for lack of a better word. At times it's fine, but most the time it doesn't work. The volume dials don't show up either. What's wrong with it and how should I fix it?

My friend said the speakers might be blown, but the sound still works at times. And I'm sure if he speakers were broken then the volume dials would show up as well. So I need help figuring out whys going on.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.
    Apple - iPod Repair price
A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.
iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens
    Replace the jack yourself

  • Strange behavior - icon thumbnail instead of image - CC@OSX10.10

    Hi,
my CC (@OS X 10.10.3) showing a strange behavior using vanishing point filter.
After defining grid and try to paste the image OS X paste the icon thumbnail instead of the image,
    Many thanks in advance!!
    br
    Joachim

It is probably related to the fact that you are setting the tables row height in the renderer this will fire a render message when the height changes. One height is applied to all rows of a table. This means that is you have images of different heights you are continually changing the tables row height and therefore continually rendereing.
My approach would be to have all the images fit into a set size ( say 64*64 ( with scaling if neccesary ) you could then have a popup show the full size image if required.

    Any suggestions?

I am having the exact same problem(and no one is replying to my post either), I read in another post of someone who had a somewhat similar issue and someone commented that it was bad VRAM and warranted the logic board to be replaced. I'm hoping this is not the case, or at least hoping the problem does not get worse because I am in school and can't be without this computer for 2 weeks while it gets repaired..I'm hoping I can last til the holidays...

  • Strange behavior when I try to match a mpeg2 video with the menu size image

    hello all,
got a strange behavior when I try to match a mpeg2 video with the menu size image,
menu size is 1920 x 1080 (photoshop file)
    mpeg2 video 1920 x 1080 (1second 19 frames)
the idea is to go from the menu link to the next sub menu with a video as transition, using the same image on the video as the menu and then zooming in (in my case through a door) to end up after the zoom in the next level menu.
I try to achieve a smooth change from the first play menu picture to the video image into the next level menu picture,
everything works good but when I watch it on the preview mode on the left and right side of the video it shows a black bar at least 15 to 25 pixel wide, that means the video image appears smaller and it causes a little jump what is preety disturbing and can not be sold as a professional work.
why encore treats the video size and picture differently?
it's gratful appreciated if somebody who got experience in a transition I mentioned obove posting any solution,
    thankl you all

    Hi all
I'm having a very similar problem with Encore. My menu items are distorting (a minor but infuriating squashing top and bottom) when previewed.
    Using Encore,PS,AE CS4
DVD format SD PAL DV widescreen
I created 3 menu frameworks and 3 video transistions to link them in AE. On the final frame of each transistion in AE I saved the frame with Composition>Save Frame to> Photoshop Layers. In PS i added the button functionality and saved.
In Encore I use Dynamic link to import AE transistions as timelines and imported each PS menu twice, once as "menu" and once as an asset.
When I link the timeline transistions to the menu and preview at the point the menu begins the whole image is squashed. When the next transistion is activated the image returns to its original size.
Thinking it was the use of PS that was causing the menus to distort I used the menu asset directly in the time line. Obviously no menu functionality but also no distortion. The AE transistion flowed straight into the "menu" just as I expected.
In the properties panel the menu Aspect Ratio 16:9
The AE transistions PAR is SD PALwidescreen 1.4587.
I did try the Blu Ray suggestion above but the same distortion was apparent.
Any suggestions short of squashing the video to match the menu would be welcomed.
    Thanks
