Re-save a PDF so contents are image-based?

Is there quick and easy way to do this? I know it will inflate the file size, but that's not important for my applications. Basically, I want all the contents of an existing text-based PDF to be image-based, as if I was a document I optically scanned, but without the need to print it out, and run it through a scanner. Is this possible? Thanks

Ah nice idea. Now, is it possible to perform this in a batch fashion?
Ideally, I want my user to be able to drop a bunch of PDF's in a directory, run a batch file, and then they will be "converted" as described above.
Are there command line arguements for Acrobat that could do this? Using X Standard here.

    A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
    Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially.
    I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
    You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.

  • Save as pdf does not include images on my kindle fire

    am i missing some obvious way to access a setting?

    I created a sample PDF and viewed it in Adobe Reader on a phone. 5 of the images display normally, while 4 show as black boxes. Are you seeing something similar?
    Investigating further, the 5 that converted as expected were .png images, and the 4 that failed were .jpg images. Hmmm...
    Edit: On a page with a JPEG background image, the entire page is black except for the form controls (search box and search button). Not useful.
    Edit #2: I posted a bug with my examples: [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=758893 Bug 758893 – Save As PDF renders JPEGs as black rectangles (Android 2.3.4 / HTC)]. Please note that every comment on the bug currently cc's by email over two dozen people. • When the user saves a pdf as a png image, is this lossless?

    Hi, I know that the user can save a pdf as an image (or rather as a series of images). And I know that saving to a jpg is not lossless. But what about saving to a png? Is this lossless?
    If not, then my question becomes general: does Acrobat give the user a lossless way to save a pdf as an image?

    Actually, I think we missed a very important point at the beginning. Saving PDF pages to an image almost always causes severe quality losses that are nothing to do with compression. Here's why.
    A PDF is a mixture of some or all of:
    - text
    - vector art (shapes, lines, etc.)
    - raster images (originally TIFF, JPEG or whatever) at DIFFERENT resolutions
    Now, if you save a page of a PDF to a raster format, then what happens to the above is:
    - text must be converted to a raster format. It is no longer text, free to scale and sharp to read at anysize
    - vector art must be conveted to a raster format with similar losses to text
    - raster images have to be converted to the final resolution. Unless the resolution of the image and of the exported graphic happen to be the same there will be quality losses
    So, whether you choose JPEG, PNG or whatever, it is only in a very small set of circumstances lossless. That is, when the PDF contains nothing but raster images, all at the same resolution, which is the same as the exported resolution.

  • Save as PDF results in blank image

    I have some Illustrator files that, when I save as PDFs, the resulting file is blank.  Other files have segments missing; some are just fine.   What am I doing wrong?

    I didn't use any spot colors.  All there is are line and arc segments.  When saving the PDF I tried all different combinations of parameters.  I did AI because that's what the first shop we talked to wanted.  I'd hate to have to start all over again...
    Anyway, I think there must be some difference between segments, since from the same AI file some of them are OK in the PDF and some aren't.  Can you think of anything it could be in that arena?
    I really appreciate your help!

  • Save as PDF from IE loses images

    Hello,
    I am dealing with a problem.
    I have Acrobat XI installed.
    I can open a letter in Internet explorer. This letter contains about 12 images. When I try to print the letter I chose Adobe PDF so it saves as PDF.
    Now the problem, when the letter is saved and I try to open it not all images show.
    So i tried again. The second time I had the same problem only different images were missing, I tried this 5 times and every time i tried other images were missing.
    Also I tried to troubleshoot the proces and came to the conclusion that the problem had to be Acrobat.
    Is there a limitation on how large the file can be, or is it another problem?
    I would like to use it on Internet Explorer.
    If someone knows the solution or an alternative in Internet explorer that would be very nice.
    Thanks in advance.
    Greetings,
    Dennis Claessens

    Is there a place holder there? If so, go to the Edit>Preferences>Page Display and turn on View Large Images.

  • PDF in Content Area?

    Is it possible to display a PDF-File in Folder Area, not in full browser window? How can I make two frames in Content Area, one for Navigation Bar and one for PDF-File?
    null

    All,
    We're working on solving this problem. A high priority for us is to always maintain the Portal context for all content, so the user always has links to take them back to home, the previous page, etc.
    We moved from frames to tables because of overwhelming demand from most users. Although frames have the one advantage that you cite, their other disadvantages (difficulty with bookmarking, printing, and others) have caused many sites to abandon them. In fact, Jakob Nielsen, the leading expert on Web usability, calls frames the #1 mistake in Web Design.

  • Save mx:HTML full content to image

    After searching my pants off for the correct approach for this, I need some help regarding this. I want to save the contents of an html component to an image (png/jpg/whatever) in the filesystem. The added bonus, is that I want to render the entire HTML page, not just the visible part in the component.
    A few approaches I tried:
    - Trying to get some reference to the canvas that is drawn on in the html component, no luck (this seemed to me to be the easiest solution)
    - Trying out a way of splitting the entire html page in multiple squares and creating seperate bitmaps for each viewport's content, after that combining them into 1.
    Some problems I have:
    - No way to get an easy reference to the entire html-canvas in the html component (that I could find).
    - Lot's of other stuff that went wrong which made me think there has to be an easier way.
    - Pages can become 10000px or more high easy, how do we work with bitmaps this size taking the bitmap size limit in the player into account?
    I know this should be possible, since I've seen Air apps do it already (Webkut e.g.).
    Any help appreciated,
    Ben

    I was finally able to get a working solution.  I ended up using the scrolling method, in which I dispatch an event if there are more pages to process.  The handler for that event then simply called the function again.  This allowed the HTML component to scroll incrementally.  Sample below (this is bits and pieces of my PrintManager class, which does a lot more. I haven't tested the sample below) :
    private var _html:HTMLLoader;
    private var page:int = 0;
    public function snapshot(html:HTMLLoader):void{
      var PAGE_HEIGHT:int = html.height;
         var pages:int = Math.ceil(html.contentHeight/PAGE_HEIGHT);
         var b:BitmapData;
         // make global reference to html object
         _html = html;
         //global counter of pages;
         page++;
         // Register Listners
         FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.addEventListener('NEXT_PAGE_PLEASE',nextPageHandler);
         FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.addEventListener('PRINT_JOB_COMPLETE',pringJobCompleteHandler);
         // Without the timeout the window doesn't refresh in time to take a snapshot
         setTimeout(function():void{
              b = new BitmapData(PAGE_WIDTH+50,PAGE_HEIGHT);
              b.draw(html);
              /* Code here to write the image to disk or whatever */
              // Ok, here's the magic.  If there are more pages to process we need to dispatch an event
              // telling our printer to execute this method agian.  If it is the last page we need to
              // create the pdf and present it to the user.  Then reset the global vars used.
              if(page < pages){
                   FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.dispatchEvent(new Event('NEXT_PAGE_PLEASE'));
              }else{
                   FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.dispatchEvent(new Event('PRINT_JOB_COMPLETE'));
         },100);
    public function nextPageHandler(e:Event):void{
         FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.removeEventListener('NEXT_PAGE_PLEASE',nextPageHandler);
         _html.scrollV = _html.scrollV+_html.height;
         // This will snapshot the next screen.
         snapshot(_html);
    public function pringJobCompleteHandler(e:Event):void{
         FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.removeEventListener('PRINT_JOB_COMPLETE',pringJobCompleteHandler);
         trace('print job complete');
         page = 0;
    Like I said, I copy/pasted bits and pieces from my class to post here.  You probably need to tweak it to get it to work.  One of the things I left out here was logic to calculate and clip the last page, since the last page likely contains the previous page you need to determine the height of the last page and use something to clip it.  I actually used BitmapData.copyPixels and copied a rect in the correct position and size from a temporary snapshot of the page.

  • How to pass variable to content area from a PL/SQL procedure

    Hi,
    Can somebody tell me how to create a(Content area) folder based on a PL/SQL procedure that takes a variable as a
    parameter and returns data based on value of that parameter to the folder . Any help would be appreciated .
    Thanks and regards.
    Neeti.

    Somewhere, in one procedure, build a session identifier and save your variable there. If no session with that identifier is previously stored, it will create a new session instance with that ID for you.
    declare
    l_sess portal30.wwsto_api_session;
    varvalue number;
    begin
    varvalue := 100;
    l_sess := portal30.wwsto_api_session.load_session('MYSESSION','VARIABLES');
    l_sess.set_attribute('VAR_NAME',varvalue);
    l_sess.save_session;
    end;
    In your other procedure, or anywhere else needed within that same session, simply load the session and reference the variable. To reference the variable, use the following.
    -- assuming new procedure, so re-defining session variable and reloading session into it
    declare
    my_session portal30.wwsto_api_session;
    my_new_variable number;
    begin
    my_session := portal30.wwsto_api_session.load_session('MYSESSION','VARIABLES');
    my_new_variable := my_session.get_attribute_as_number('VAR_NAME');
    end;
    This will let you reference parameters across multiple portal applications and indirect calls.

  • Fonts not embedding when "save as" pdf

    Version: Photoshop CS4 64 bit on Windows Vista 64.
    Issue: fonts not getting embedded during conversion to pdf.
    I am attempting to save files for commercial printing in Photoshop pdf format (file-save as-pdf). In the past, using previous versions of Photoshop, the fonts have always been embedded in the pdf document when I choose the "Press Quality" pdf preset. However, now, even when I simplify my Photoshop source file down to the most basic level (one non-background layer with one line of type using a font I KNOW has successfully embedded before) the resulting pdf reports NO embedded fonts (no fonts at all, actually) and when sized up a great deal in Acrobat Pro shows pixelation as though the type was converted to a graphic. If I open the resulting pdf file in Photoshop the text is still editable though...
    I have Photoshop files that were built using a previous version of Photoshop (CS2). When I open these in Photoshop CS4 and save as pdf the fonts are embedded just as they always were so the problem lies not with the CS4 version of Photoshop itself but rather with NEW files created by it. It seems that any NEW files I create using Photoshop CS4 wil not embed their fonts when saved as pdfs.
    Help !!?!! (example file attached)

    Good points. To test that out I tried substituting different non-commercial fonts (Arial, Tahoma, Times, etc.) and then saving as a pdf. No matter what fonts I try they don't get embedded. So that would seem to rule out the idea that Photoshop CS4 is now restricting the embedding of fonts to non-commercial ones.
    I have poured through the save-as-pdf options in GREAT detail - have tried many various options and don't see any settings that have either made a difference or seem relevant. According to Adobe documentation anytime you select "Press Quality" as the preset the fonts should automatically be embedded.
    The really odd thing is, if I take a psd file that was originally created using a previous version of Photoshop, delete all the layers and then create one single line type layer so that it is identical in every way to my CS4 test file, any font I select gets embedded when I convert that file to pdf - same exact pdf preset - all file settings the same - everything! - except that it was originally created using a previous Photoshop version.
    Does that make ANY sense??

  • PDFs in XP are bigger and TABs turn into boxes in Acrobat 9

    I recently upgraded a computer from Windows 2000 to Windows XP.
    Now when Illustrator saves as PDF the files are 100kb or more bigger.
    TAB characters display as rectangles in Acrobat 8 and 9, but not 5.
    I have since tested 3 computers in about 10 different combinations of XP, 2000, Acrobat 5,8,9 with Illustrator 10 and CS2.
    Without fail, it looks like Illustrator can not create a proper PDF in Windows XP.
    Another note is that some fonts are saved as AFM (or whatever the A icon means) in the PDF but they are all TTF when saved in XP.
    In windows 2000 the PDFs created are always smaller and the Tabs do not show up as rectangles in either XP or 2000.
    Windows 2000 - 40kb
    Windows XP - 130kb
    This is just with a few Arial fonts and some shapes. Both using Illustrator 10.
    So there you go. Have fun using XP.

    >I recently upgraded a computer from Windows 2000 to Windows XP.
    Did you do an upgrade or a clean install of XP?
    My guess is the latter because...
    >Another note is that some fonts are saved as AFM (or whatever the A icon means) in the PDF but they are all TTF when saved in XP.
    ...if I understand you correctly, it sounds like the fonts you were using in your Win 2000 setup did not get installed in your XP setup. (The 'a' icon indicates a PostScript Type 1 font.) Lacking the original fonts, Illustrator probably used available TrueType or OpenType versions. (Did you get a font substitution message the first time you opened your documents in your XP setup?) Since you are embedding different fonts in your PDF document, you can expect file size differences.
    Different fonts (with possibly different encodings) could also account for the "rectangles."
    If indeed you did a clean install of XP, you must be sure all OS and application features and settings -- e.g., fonts, language, ai prefs -- are the same as they were in your Win 2000 setup. Otherwise, comparisons are meaningless.
    There is absolutely no reason change of OS, in and of itself, would cause larger PDFs to be created.

  • Save As PDF no longer an option...

    Hi!
    I recently purchased the Creative Suite (CS6 Standard for PC). I'm using Photoshop and have created a couple documents and haven't had a problem. I uploaded a file from one of my suppliers and now my ability to Save As a PDF is no longer an option. This is a huge problem. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Please help!
    Thanks!

    Check your document color mode and bit depth.
    Photoshop still saves as PDF, if you are in a color mode and bit depth that PDF supports.

    16bit? Pixels extending beyond the canvas? (from a crop with delete unused pixels turn off).  Have you previously been saving PSD files?
    IME you sometimes have to tell Photoshop that the first save of a session is JPG, and it remembers from there on.  The way to 'tell' Photoshop that JPG, or PDF, or PNG etc are now your preferred format is to Ctrl (Cmd) click on that format in the Save As drop down list.  So long as the file does not have parameters that your chosen format does not support, then this should work for you.
    [EDIT]  Just noticed that you did include 'Crop' in the subject line.  Do you have 'Delete cropped pixels' checked?

    Hi,
    You may open the original form in FormsCentral and toggle to “Page View” at the lower right corner. Adjust the page content to make sure no page breaks in this view.
    Thanks,
