Re-saving PDF files
Is there a limit to how many times a PDF file can be re-saved?
I have a person who is using a form and apparently re-saves it using the same file name each time they use it. The last time she input information in and saved it, then the next time that information does not show up when opening the document but in file details you can see the text is there. I'm thinking she should have saved the file as a different name to keep that form "blank" for future use.
Will she need to redo the form and save as different file name?
Hi inasravanim and Gilad D (try67)
Sorry to hikack the thread....but I have the same issue.
Windows 7, saving to network drive. If I overwrite the pdf on the desktop it does so fine. However, not on the network drive. The user has full control permissions on the network drive. So at a loss as to why this is happening. It only happens with PDF files too (as have tried other file formats with no issues).
Don't think it is a Acrobat problem - this was happening on Acrobat X and now on Acrobat XI. But again shouldn't be a permissions issue either...??
Any ideas?

Custom "Save as PDF" directly to a destination folder overwrites previously saved PDF files
Custom "Save as PDF" directly to a destination folder overwrites previously saved PDF files
As many of you will know, within Mac OSX it is possible to "print" any document off as a PDF. You simply prepare your document then invoke the "Print" command and in the resulting print dialog box, click the "PDF" button in the bottom left corner which spills out a menu with various options including "Save as PDF..." as shown in the image below:
Selecting the last option "Edit Menu" permits users to add specific folders to which a PDF of the document will be saved. As you will note from the image above, I have created a number of destinations such as "Bank Transfers" (for anything on screen in Safari I wish to preserve when using my on-line banking facility); "Bind" (which I use with an Automator workflow to consolidate many PDFs into one long document); "Officeworks" (for stuff I need to copy to a USB stick and have printed on on large plotters); "iPad" (for anything I need to put on my iPad through "iAnnotate" or "Documents") etc
The problem I have discovered is that with the introduction of Mountain Lion, PDFs that get saved directly to a destination folder get overwritten by later versions of PDFs that are produced from the same document. This is fine when working on a single document that you may want to have the latest print of a document but not so when you produce many different PDFs from the same browser window in Safari as you surf through a number of websites etc.
Prior to Mountain Lion, pervious versions were never over-written but rather preserved them with new versions having version number suffixes added e.g., untitled.pdf, followed by untitled1.pdf, untitled2.pdf, untitled3.pdf etc.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? (other than a workaround like switching to Finder to rename or move files around)The "Save to Web Receipts" bug existed for a long time - here's a MacOSXHints article offering a workaround in 2007. Here's another reference to it in 2009. Your contention that:
Prior to Mountain Lion, pervious [sic] versions were never over-written.
is, I'm afraid, wrong.
Apple fixed (worked around) that bug by using a .pdfworkflow, as I indicated. As I also indicated, this file can't be opened with Automator (or I just don't know how, which is no great surprise ). But it's the answer to your problems.
You can either wait for Apple to fix what is, admittedly, a huge bug in their PDF Services feature, or you can find a way of implementing the same fix they did for your own folders.
I should be doing the same, as I use PDF Services regularly, but I'm too lazy and have had too little success with Automator in general to give it a shot. You may have more success than I did.
Good luck -
I have problems saving pdf files in the web when I use Safari. I don't have this problem with firefox.
do they save ok if Safari - Preferences - Security - Allow all other plug-ins is unchecked ?
If so, likely an adobe or other pdf plugin
Re-check the setting above & quit any browsers,
Look in this folder by triple-clicking the line below, then ctrl-clicking it & choosing Services - Open
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
remove anything with pdf in the filename & test again
Sometimes, plug-ins can be in the User Library folder :

Saving PDF files from illustrator
Hi
Can anybody help we are having an issue with illustrator cs3 and cs4 when saving pdf files
as you can see this is the file in illustrator and the images butt togeather with a black line down the middle when we then save the pdf and we have tried different options it moves the image, the images are placed eps images. This is not file specific as we have tried other files/images.
Can anybody helpYes I think I understand the problem and I believe it is expected behavior and I will explain.
You must convert the images to cmyk in photoshop first before placing them in Illustrator or convert them after but since they are linked the conversion has to take place in photoshop by using the link panel to edit the original.
Now it should work as expected but I did this without the using a black key line on the rectangle I used for my clipping so once you have the rectangles position if you still find you have this problem then go bak and redo the clipping mask without the black stroke.
This is my result in Acrobat with the images converted to cmyk so I am positive you stated with RGB and did not convert before placing.
As you can at 6400% magnification it is fine. This is the top edge of the two butted images when saved as pdf after converting the files to cmyk in Photoshop. PDX 1a supports CMYK.
This is what it looks like when using the inked files when they are rgb -
I am getting a blank, gray page when I try to pull up any of my saved PDF files. I have the latest update for my ver., 10.1.7.
What is the operating system of that device?

Have saved pdf files to creative cloud but ipad cannot see any files
I have saved pdf files from my Windows desktop to the Creative Cloud. They are visible there when accessed from my desktop. However when logging onto the Creative Cloud on either my iPad or iPhone it says there are "no documents to display".
I hope you're referring to the iWork program Pages for Macs since that is the forum you posted in. If you want to view Pages documents on your iPad, you'll also need to get Pages for iOS from the iTunes App Store. While you're doing that, also download the free iBooks app. There are other PDF readers, but I use iBooks.
You can use iTunes to sync documents between your Mac & your iPad. For PDFs you use File > Add to Library & they will appear under "Books." For Pages documents, you can use the File Sharing section of iTunes like in the screenshot below. You can also use iCloud.com to upload from your Mac but you will need to have your iPad connected to the internet to transfer the files from the cloud to the iPad. -
Saved .pdf files won't open
On MacBook Air running OSX Mavericks I've saved .pdf files from the Web and from documents I've scanned. For many .pdf documents I get a dialog box that says, "Contact your computer or network administrator for assistance."
That's nice, but I'm the only one here. These are important documents I’ve saved for a reason. Any ideas how to get them open? Thanks for the suggestion.
After more poking around I discovered the Sharing & Permissions setting in the Get Info dialog box were set to No Access. I have no idea how that happened, but next time I save a .pdf I'll find whether the setting is part of the Save As dialog or not. -
How to set jpeg resolution when saving pdf file as jpeg
I'm running Acrobat using interprocess api, I can invoke a script to save a pdf file as JPEG, but I need to be able to set the resolution of the saved jpeg file.
Any clues as to how I can do that ?
PeterHi
I am running a stand-alone version of Framemaket 10.I try to convert a documentation with a lot of screenshots in it. Regardless of the settings on the Reference pages of the first document of the book, Framemaker converts all graphic files to *.gif, and these are downsized so much that they become illegible. I would like to have them converted to JPG, with little resolution loss, so they are still readable.
I think Robohelp is too expensive…

Saving pdf files on my mac that were originally created on a pc deletes all previous input.
Hi, I have a Mac and a PC on my workplace. We frequently use PDF files. So to make work easier i connected them via our network so we could be more efficient. But I have a big problem. When i create .pdf files on my computer and then transfer them to the mac i cant save them on the mac without deleting all the work i did on the computer. This is highly problematic. I have tried a few different thing as to fix it. I have restarted both computers and also insted of moving the files via the network i transfered them via an USB stick but to no avail.
any help would be tremendously appreciate
Thanks /DidiuzHi didiuz,
What version of Acrobat do you have on your Mac and PC? And what version of Windows and Mac OS do you have?
What sort of changes are you making to the PDF on Windows that aren't being saved when you open on the Mac? Can you please walk me through the process that you're using? It sounds like you're able to open the files on the Mac, but lose your work when you save them? Are you working with PDF forms?
So many questions, but I need a bit more information to go on. I look forward to hearing back from you, so we can figure out what's going on!
Best,
Sara -

Saving PDF files in a password protected FTP site
Hi Experts,
I have an Adobe Form which I want to save in a Password protected FTP site.
I have written the following code in the submit button
TYPE = HTTP Submit
URL = ftp://username:password@host/
But once the submit is clicked, I can see ONLY the display of the files in this FTP Server.
My requirement is, I want this PDF file saved in the FTP server.
How do I achieve this??
Thanks
KRIf you are using the Adobe Reader plug-ins in Safari, then the only functional way to save the PDF locally (without damage) is to use the save functionality that Adobe (not Safari Save As…, Export, or Print > PDF) provides. These examples were captured on OS X 10.9.5. Safari 7.1.2. Adobe Reader 11.0.10.
Your first link will offer a roll over Adobe toolbar near the bottom-center of your displayed PDF document. Use the Save icon on the far left.
The second link produces the Adobe sub-toolbar with the Save icon. -
Intermittent Bug when saving pdf files in Illustrator CS6
I save a pdf file in Illustrator CS6 with a specific art board size. When I open it in Acrobat the size is off. When our print's RIP's the file, it is off the same amount. I will re-open it in Illustrator and re-save it and just change the name, the artboard is then correct. This is very intermittent. It has happened on two copies of CS6. Both prograns are current with the updates. I am on a iMac running OS 10.6.8.
Document size is: 36.01 x 98.12
I can open up both documents in Illustrator and they are identical.
We have been using these presets for a couple of years without issue. The problem started happening about 3 weeks ago on 2 seperate computers. We have not seen the problem with CS5.5 and earlier.
Below are the preset settings summary:

Hi there, I'm trying to save a template PDF form file that
has been loaded using htmlLoader & filled using AS 3 along with
a document-level JavaScript in the PDF file. I can't seem to find a
way to save the file to disk.
I looked at AlivePDF but it seems like its more suited for
generating a PDF from scratch & not saving a pre-populated PDF
file. Basically, I can't parse my pdf file as an object to
AlivePDF.
Dont know if anyone has any experience with this but will be
nice if I could get a helping hand.
Thanks. Thanks a bunch anirudhs for your reply. I believe I did a bad
bad job explaining myself on the initial post.
Basically what I'm having issues with is printing or saving
the state of a scripted PDF form. I'm working on an AIR application
that fills PDF forms from the AIR app. Here is the work flow I
envision for the app:
- Forms are filled in the AIR App
- The fields are stored in a SQLite DB
- Fields are pulled from the DB into a template scripted PDF
File
- Template PDF file should be able to be saved & printed
off with the respective forms field
I have everything working besides the saving & printing
aspect of the application. I can't seem to make it work. Tried
working with the saveAs() but there seems to be some security
issues with calling the saveAs() from the script.
I'm wondering if anyone could give me a hand with this issue.
Thanks. -
Saved pdf file does not include filled in text
i am using adobe acrobat pro; trail version. I can fill in a fillable pdf file but after saving the file and then emailing the filethe received email attachment does not include my text included in the pdf form?
It most likely does include it in the form, but the PDF viewer that's being used does not display it. If the user were to use Adobe Reader/Acrobat, the form data should appear as expected. The default PDF viewer that mobile devices and some browsers use don't have sufficient support for forms.
If the recipient does not need to interact with the form fields, you can flatten the form before sending it out. This converts the form field appearances to regular page content, so it will very likely appear fine in most any PDF viewer. Post again if you need help flattening form fields using Acrobat.
