Re-setting click boxes

I took the suggestions from Captivtr on this site to create my own quizzes using click boxes because I wanted more control with the feedback.  However, I this has created a new problem.
I have attached a 3 slide sample for you to look at.  On the second slide, you will notice that you can answer the question and depending on where you click, you get a response.  Everything works fine there.  However, if you click next and then click back and come back to the original screen, you will see that no matter how you answer, the feedback box that is layered on top always appears regardless of whether the user answers the question correctly.
My question is that it appears that captivate is not resetting the interaction when the person goes back to the page.  Is there a way to reset the action so that if the user goes back and tries to answer the question again, the responses will fire properly.
Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric
I've downloaded the project and am looking at it as I type this. I see you have a Click Box on slide 2 that is pausing the slide. It seems to be superimposed over the New Material B caption. So a click on this caption would be considered "Correct". Right?
Here's where it gets tricksy. The captions are invisible until you show them. You have constructed your actions to show the desired caption. But there is no action to "reset" or hide them once you leave the slide.
I'm guessing you are desiring to allow the user to re-visit the slide and have it be a whole new ball game, no? If so, you might consider configuring the slide properties so that the On slide enter event is Multiple actions. Then configure the actions to Hide both of the captions. This would effectively reset the slide.

  • Click box - advanced actions - dims images

If I have a text box, by using advanced action on slide I hide it, then on a click box I want it to show - when the hidden text box reveals itself, the image dims.  Why is that?  What do I have set incorrectly?
thank you to anyone who can help!

    Hello again
Indeed I thought I had explained that.
Each object such as an Image, Caption or whatever is generally equipped with a Fade In and Fade Out transition effect. These effects are typically half a second long. So if you pause the slide very near the end of the object display time, the pause is occurring as the transition is fading the object out of view. Thus the "dimming" occurs.
If you configure the object so no fade out occurs on the transition (Fade In only) then it doesn't matter if you pause near the end because it doesn't fade out of view. Likewise, if you adjust the timing so the Click Box pauses the slide before the transition begins to occur, the dimming won't happen either.

  • FiOS TV cutting out to snow, resetting TV and set-top box?

    Greetings all, I'm hoping someone can help here;
I have a Motorola HD DVR 72161 (Verizon supplied) connected via HDMI to my Sharp Aquos LC-46D65U. Over the last few weeks, something odd is happening: after watching TV for a while, my picture will change to snow (no video input all of the sudden). I have to turn the TV and the set-top box (STB) off. When the STB goes off, it flashed the "du1" on the display. After about 10 or 15 seconds, the (turned off) TV makes a click sound. At this point I can power everything back on and it is working fine.
There is no pattern to this, though it sometimes happens more often (every 10 or 15 minutes) when watching a recorded program. It happens both day and night.
Tech support reinitialized my STB yesterday, and it didn't seem to fix the problem. I changed the HDMI port on the TV this afternoon (moved the cable to a new port) and this didn't help either.
Any ideas or help or suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thanks.

I have the same problem and have been through the same troubleshooting with FIOS support.  Unfortunately, I also have a Sharp Aquos (46D85U).  I was hoping this was a FIOS issue rather than an Aquos issue, but after reading your post, I'm not sure.  Perhaps it's a combination of FIOS and Aquos.  I did not have this problem when I had Cox cable.  It started as soon as I switched to FIOS.
Additional discoveries:  You can turn off just the TV, wait a few seconds for the relay to click, then turn the TV back on and the picture comes back.  Also, I just recently switched to the composite video output (Red, Blue, Green connectors) and the problem appears to have gone away.  The drawback is picture quality noticeably degrades.
Sorry, I don't have an answer.  Any ideas from the smart folks out there?

  • Click Box not working in Captivate 5

Why do simple things sometimes seem hard??  I have a click box created and set to "jump to slide x" when clicked.  This is on a presentation imported from PP 2010 and using Captivate 5.  When clicked in preview mode, the slide simply goes to the next screen rather than jumping to the one I want.  I notice there is already a click box created automatically on every screen of the imported presentation.  When I remove it, the presentation automatically goes to the next screen rather than waiting for the user to click to advance.  I want it to advance by the user clicking the forward arrow in the player controls.  If I leave it on screen, it seems to override my added click box.  Here is what my click box settings are:
Here is what the click box looks like on the screen.  You can see that I resized (moved out of the way) the large click box automatically created by Captivate:
This is using XP for a course that will be published in SCORM.  As always, many thanks for helping!
    Lisa

Ah ha!  Yes, I do have a quiz.  17 scored questions scattered throughout the course.  Do I need to move the "jump to" slide before the last question then (or somewhere else as long as it's before the last question)?
    Thanks!

  • No variable audio output for Cisco CHS 435HDC set top box.

Background:  Until the other day I had my stb connectected to a TV, using TV sound, with an HDMI cable.  The P265v2 remote volume control changed the TV volume.  No problems.
My new TV & home theater system was recently installed.  We don't use the TV speakers.  While my first preference was to program the Verizon remote to change the volume on my Onkyo receiver, this did not appear to be an option on the remote's programming instruction page on the Verizon website.  Instead, I am directed to change a setting on the remote that makes the Verizon remote change the stb output volume vs the tv volume.  I changed the setting on the remote and ensured the stb box was set up for "variabe" audio output.
Problem:  Using the stb variable audio settings, volume settings 1 through 30 produce the same volume.  (Volume setting 0 produces no volume, as one would hope.)  It appears the "variable" setting isn't producing a variable output as it should be on this unit.
Thinking that maybe the receiver was complicating the sitation, I tried connecting the stb to the old TV and the new TV directly and had the same results.
Now, while I am watching TV, I need to have the receiver remote at hand in addition to the Verizon remote.  It would be nice to have the volume be adjustable as it should be while using the Verizon remote.  I don't like the idea of using a seperate universal remote because then I would lose some of the functionality that the Verizon remote provides when watching TV, using the DVR, watching on demand, etc.
I would like to know if this is a problem just with my unit, or if it exists with all of these units, which would hopefully be fixed with a Cisco/Verizon firmware update soon, hopefully.
    Thank you.

Having same issues with hdmi and optical. Any fix to this.
    Hello,
In order to control the volume on your home theater system, you'll need a FiOS TV Universal Remote that has the 4-buttons on the top for 'DVD', 'Aux'iliary, 'TV' and 'STB'.  The audio receiver would have to be programmed into the FIOS TV Remote, and controlled using the 'Aux'iliary button.
Verizon's 4-Button Universal Remote Controls are available for purchase:
    a) online via www.verizon.com/fiosaccessories
    OR
    b) at a local FiOS TV store (call first to check if they have them in stock).  For a list of stores:  http://www22.verizon.com/support/residential/tv/fiostv/general+support/account+issues/questionsone/8...
Presently, the default remotes for new set top boxes are the 2-button P-265 (newer version) remotes.
Regarding a problem with HDMI/optical on Cisco 435 STBs, check out the following:
    Go to this webpage:  http://www22.verizon.com/Support/Residential/TV/FiOSTV/Receivers/Equipment+Issues/QuestionsOne/12839...
Click on the link for 'Cisco CHS 435 HD DVR User Guide'.
Open the PDF and go to page 22 for 'Connecting to a Home Theater System...'.
    Hope this helps!

  • Any way to disable quiz click boxes from a parent SWF?

We've got a parent SWF that serves as a navigational shell, allowing users to move between different Captivate slides which are essentially embedded SWFs. Some of these SWFs are Captivate hot spot quizzes. We've run into a fairly significant issue - when a Captivate slide has a click box, it sets up an event listener for that box. Unfortunately, when a user moves off of that SWF, the event listener is still in place (note: we're not actually unloading the SWF, we're simply hiding it and showing the next SWF). Once a user clicks into the new SWF, the following exception gets thrown:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
    at captivate.veela_as3::rdClickHandler/CheckSpriteClick()
    at captivate.veela_as3::rdClickHandler/CheckAllClicksDown()
    at captivate.veela_as3::rdClickHandler/onMousePress()
We've narrowed this down to the click boxes and the event listeners associated with them. I need to know if there's some way that our parent SWF can call into the Captivate quiz SWF in order to disable those click boxes once the user moves off of the SWF. I know that we can disable them from within the quiz itself using an advanced action, but I'm just not sure if the same can be done from an external SWF (ideally, we would just call an advanced action from the parent SWF - I have no idea if this is possible).
Any help would be much appreciated.
    - Terence

First question, why are you simply hiding and not unloading them?
If you can hide, I am assuming through a visible false or alpha = 0; then it seems like you would have the ability to relocate them as well, and since the loaded swf is housing its own buttons and hit areas they would move with their parent...
So a cheap fix if you can access the objects would be to move them out of view, like to
    .x = -5000
    .y = -5000
That might work...and might be the easiest way to "Re-add them to the stage without losing info, I am assuming the hide and not unload is for keeping score or something?
You could then move them back to 0,0 if you needed them again...
    might help you

  • How can I get a click box to interact with a text entry box on the same page?

I'm creating a tutorial on using a specific system and trying to recreate what the end user would actual do in the system.  On one slide, the end user must enter text into a field, then press a button (click box) to advance to the next slide.  I want to be able to have the click box validate if the text entry is correct before advancing to the next slide.  Is there a way to get the click box to validate the text entry?  Not sure how to get the two objects to "talk" to each other rather than function independently.
Literally, I want the end user to enter the data in the text entry box, then click on the Get button.  I need the Get button (click box) to both validate that the data entered in the text entry box is correct and, if it is, advance to the next slide.  If the data is incorrect, I need the Get button (click box) to show the failure caption and have the end user re-enter the data correctly.
How do I get the objects to work together?

    Hi there
You need to delete the Click Box. Yes, you heard me. Delete the puppy.
I  know it sounds weird. But bear with me. After you delete it, double-click the Text Entry Box. Then click the Options tab. See that option called Show Button? Click it and click OK to dismiss the TEB properties.
Now you have the button you want. If you don't want a button, double-click it and set it as transparent. Remove the text. Position as desired where the Click Box was before.

  • Button/click box click more than once

Hi, I'm hoping you guys can point out what I'm doing wrong...
I have an image where the user can click on certain parts of
it to display a callout. However, I want them to be able to click
on the area of the image more than once if requried. I suppose you
can say it's a bit like an image map.
First I used click boxes to achieve this, then I tried using
transparent buttons. However for both of these methods you can only
click on each part once during playback. Clicking again does not
    show the callout.
I thought about copying the contents to another slide and add
a 'Reset' button the user could click on. This would move to the
other slide, but this seems a bit on the 'clunky' side, so I
thought there must be a setting or something really obvious that I
have missed. I was unable to find the relevant informaiton in the
help file or elsewhere in the forum, so if it does exist I would
appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.
How can I allow the user to click on parts of the image more
than once to show the callout?
    Thanks for your help,
    Liz

    Thanks for your reply Rick.
I started the activity using rollovers, but I wanted the user
to do something more definite than just hovering over each part of
the image. So essentially, I want the rollover functionality but
with the ability to click instead of just hovering the cursor over.
I thought this would be easy!
I've tried using both buttons and click boxes without any
success. I ventured a little into slidelets, but I want the callout
to appear in a very specific place and this did not appear to
satisfy my requirements. The 'click to stick' sounds intriguing so
I'll take a look into this, but I'm not convinced it's what I want.
Any more suggestions are most welcome.
    Regards
    Liz

  • Navigation: stop automatic slide advancement with multiple click boxes

5.0 newbie question.  I  know I have a lot to learn about navigation before I develop another CBT, but I have done a beta test and found a situation I hadn't encountered before, so I am looking for help to get me past this with a band-aid until I can do this the right way later. I have read many issues about navigation and don't seem to see exactly what my issue is.
I am using the playbar for limited user self navigation, so all my slides have click boxes with "pause until the user clicks" properties.  On some of my slides though, I have created pseudo-button like things via click boxes that popup email or browser windows (via Open URL).  When I was testing these out, they worked as I hoped: opened the external window, but did NOT advance the slide. But I have come to realize that in my testing, I was always clicking on those buttons before the audio had completed and my testers are clicking on them AFTER the audio is complete.  The behavior in the latter case causes the slide to advance (as well as correctly popup the external window).  I don't want it to advance when the user selects that particular click box and they are not REQUIRED to click on that box, it is optional.  It doesn't seem to matter how I set the properties, I get the same behavior.  Suggestions O wise Captivate gurus??  ;^)

  • How can i get a right-click click box to work?

I am using Captivate 7 and to accurately mimic the software I have inserted multiple right-click click boxes but without success. After reading previous posts, I have tried the following:
    - publishing to SWF and HTML5
    - publishing to the default folder and launching the HTML from there (i can see .css and .js files in the folder as well)
    - unchecking "Enable Accessibility" in Publish Settings
I'm very new to Captivate so any help or advice you can give on this would be great.
    Thanks

Read this post about Flash Global Security:

Not having the publish folder location set up as a trusted location can also cause right click to fail.

  • Single click in a double click box

    Captivate 3.
I have two click boxes; one set for a single click and the
other for a double click. Both have failure captions. When I single
click in the box set for a double click, nothing happens. It
appears to be ignored. I would like the failure caption for the
double click box to display if the user clicks only once inside the
    box. Is this possible?

Hi jimclennon and welcome to our community
I doubt you will be able to accomplish this easily. Failure
captions normally appear when you define a click box area and click
outside the area. As you are clicking
inside a click box area, but only clicking once, Captivate
probably isn't sensing a wrong action is occurring.
This is something you may wish to submit as a feature request

  • Can't get tab to work after a click box

I have no problem getting the tab to work after a text entry but when I insert a click box and tab the tab feature isn't working.  I do have tab set as short cut in Actions on properties of click box.

Captivate 7 allows you to configure the tab order for all interactive objects on a slide.
Select the slide and look for the Tab Order button at the top of the Properties tab.

  • When password security-setting dialogue box is opened, the bottom can't be seen or moved

Using Acrobat XI Pro on my Dell PC, I was trying to add password protection to the document.  When I click on the "encrypt with password" button, the password security-setting dialogue box pops up, and I can enter the password.  However, the bottom of the page is not visible and I can't move it to click the "ok" button.  Any suggestions?

Which Acrobat XI Pro are you using? I think you experience the same problem that was reported on this forum in the past. I believe this problem was fixed in one of the recent versions (11.0.07??). Upgrade to the latest version and the problem should go away.

  • Multiple text boxes with click box verification

I have seen issues similar to mine but they do not address my problem specifically.  To minimize file size I have two text entry boxes on the same slide.  The user is instructed to enter text then click the submit button.  The user is allowed 1 try.  On sucess the user goes to the next slide, on failure the slide continues until it runs into the second text entry box.
The first box works fine.  If the correct data is entered the project moves to the next slide.  If the data is in error the slide progresses to the next text entry box.  At that point I can enter data but the box over the submit button does not work.  The odd thing is that, if I move the second box to a different area on the slide, the second box works fine.  It's as though the first box, after being clicked, sheilds the second box.  I have switched the boxes in the time line and I get the same result.  After clicking the first box, I can't get to the second.  I'm fairly certain I have the boxes set up correctly, otherwise why would one work and not the other.  Any thoughts?

    Webbo,
It would be nice if the verification click boxes sort of traded positions based on which text entry box is active.  The text entry boxes work that way.  When I input the wrong data and click submit, it moves to the next text entry box and the data I just entered is cleared.  It would appear that the first text entry box either disappears or the second text entry box moves to the top because I can enter data.  However the click box remains hidden.  Placing the click boxes in two locations won't work.  I am trying to approximate the performance of the application and there is only one submit button.
I do have a work around.  Here's what I do:
I place a text entry with click box verification on slide 3.  The learner is allowed one try.  The setting for 'on success' is to jump to slide 5.  The setting for 'after last attempt' is go to next slide.
I place the second text entry with click box verification on slide 4.  Again, the learner is allowed one try.  The setting for success is go to next slide.  The setting for 'after last attempt' is continue.  I add text animation and the mouse click to slide 4 to demonstrate to the learner what should have been done.  Once that has run, the project goes to slide 5.
The are two drawbacks to the work around.
It's always best to minimize the number of slides (bandwidth/Captivate performance)
I have found the jump function sometimes gets out of whack.
The advantage is that it works.

  • Unable to link click box to Word document

I am using Captivate 2 to create a click box. On success the
click box should open a Word document in a new window. I have saved
the Word document in the same folder with my swf. After testing the
click box, I get an error message IE was unable to link to the Web
page you requested. The page might be temporarily unavailable.
What is weird that the Open URL or File on success works fine
if I set the Word document to open in the current window. This
option is not possible, because I do not want users leaving the
course. Am I doing something wrong? Please advise.

I'm facing this problem since Captivate 2
but I just skip the link file part....
But now i doing my personal portfolio
which got huge link pdf and mpeg link file...
    so I've tried Captiv8r method
    but after publish into .exe
    when i click the clickbox
i will appear ERROR sign and won't open the link pdf file
    I've followed all the steps:
    1. From Captivate, click File > Create a MenuBuilder
    project...
    2. Choose the "Blank Project" type and click OK.
    3. Click Options > Project Options...
    4. Change the Width to 320 and the Height to 200 (These are
    the minimum settings)
    5. Click OK to dismiss the Project options.
    6. Click Insert > Clickbox...
    7. You should see a "New Clickbox" dialog. There should be an
    empty field labeled "Link".
    8. Type only your document file name into the Link field.
    9. Place a check mark in the "Save file with project" check
box, and click OK to dismiss the dialog.
    10. You may see a warning dialog where MenuBuilder is
quibbling about the document not being present. Don't let this fool
you. Just click NO to advise you don't wish to browse for the file.
    11. At this point you should see a small object on your
MenuBuilder. It should say "Clickbox" and be positioned in the
    middle of the project.
    12. Drag the sizing handles until it totally covers the area.
It should totally cover the whole area.
    13. Now click the Export toolbar button.
    14. MenuBuilder will then prompt you to save the project. Go
ahead and give it a name to appease it and click the Save button.
    15. Select "Flash Movie" from the Export Options dialog and
    click Next >.
    16. Type a file name, choose a location to store the movie,
make sure the "View project after export" option is NOT selected,
    then click the Finish button.
    17. Now you may close MenuBuilder. You are finished with it.
    We go back to Captivate.
    18. In Captivate, open the slide with the link you wish to
use to open the document. The goal here is to click Insert >
Animation... and suck in the .SWF you created using MenuBuilder.
19.Then position that over an image or something that will
clue your user to click it.
    I've follow all the step
    but in NO.8 & No.9
If I just type the file name (and no link)
I can't place a check mark in the "Save file with project"
    check box
and when I import the swf into Captivate
    It will show a message:
"Adobe Captivate - Captivate link test.cp
The Adobe Flash file contains action script that reference
"root". This might cause the adobe captivate project to work
incorrectly or to stop working. do u want to continue to add this
    file?"
and After burning in to CD
I can't open the PDF link file!
and it will jump out a ERROR:F sign! (actually what is the
    "F" means? FXXK? haha~)
After several times try and error
I've slightly make some changes at NO.8 procedure:
    8. Type only your document file name into the Link field.
(I've choose and place the file with whole link & file
    name,
which is: C:\Unzipped\Captivate testing\D herbal tea
    Leaflet(C).pdf
and then now I can check the "save file with project"
    checkbox)
after output to a swf and insert animation in captivate
although captivate also show the "Adobe Captivate - Captivate
    link test.cp
The Adobe Flash file contains action script that reference
"root". This might cause the adobe captivate project to work
incorrectly or to stop working. do u want to continue to add this
    file?" message
but now i can open the link file (in same folder with .exe
    publish file)
    in any other computer!
I've checked the action script inside the link.swf which i've
    created, and get the result:
    // Action script...
    on (release)
    var szArg = "D herbal tea Leaflet(C).pdf";
    var szWindow = "_blank";
    if (_root.FlashPlayer == "1")
    getURL("FSCommand:execfile", szArg);
    else
    getURL(szArg, szWindow);
    } // end if
it shows the file name only!
    Now it's no problem!
PS: U cannot open the link file under preview mode
    it won't open
    but after publish into .exe
u can open the link file!
