Re-setting print cart. alignment - how do I?

I have an old Lexmark Z32 printer which doesn't work too well under 10.5 but it was working. That is until I changed print cartridges. Now it won't print because it says the cartridges need alignment, which I'm sure they probably do BUT this is not critical and I just need some basic stuff to print.
Is there anyway to get in to the OS and just re-set that telling the print dialog they cartridges are aligned? I don't mind using terminal if that is what it takes, just don't know where to go.

I am guessing that the alignment message appears while trying to print. If so, have you use the Lexmark Utility to see if that will realign the cartridges? It should be located in one of the folders in /Library/Printers/Lexmark - it seems they are usually with the folder for the driver for USB printers but not always. The utility is also accessible from the printer proxy.
Hope this helps.

Firefox has a profile folder that has preferences to save this. But the config that would need to be changed is:
print. save_print_settings = True - (default): Save the print settings after each print job
    Locking that preference: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences]
    Or done manually:
#In order to check the margins, we need to go to ''File'' > ''Page Setup''.
#Once this is done, switch to the ''Margins & Header/Footer'' tab.
#Check what's set there under ''Margins''.
The following are the default values for ''Margins'':
Check these values accordingly and change them if necessary.

  • How much ink does a print head alignment use on a MX860 printer?

Just wanted to know how much ink is being used when I run a print head alignment job on a MX860 printer?
    Thanks.

This is a printer issue and it's only covered under the Epson Warranty Program, which is 1 year.  AppleCare has nothing to do with that.
You'll probably have to replace the printer if the print heads cannot be replaced.  That's the issue when you buy an inkjet that has print heads that aren't part of the ink cartriges... when they go bad, they go bad and you're hosed.  If the issue persists after a print cartridge change, then it's definitely the heads.

  • How Do I Set Print Quality in PSE 10 to above 720 DPI?

    Hello Everyone,
I am trying to print a 4888px x 3456px (A4 aspect ratio) to an A4 sheet from an Epson SC-P600 inkjet printer.
In the PSE 10 Print Dialog Box I have set PSE to Manage Colours and selected my printer ICC profile.  From the Print Dialog Box's "More Options" window I click Printer Preferences and set the Print Driver's Print Quality to SuperPhoto 5760dpi x 1440dpi.
After clicking OK a few times to get back to the PSE10 Print Dialog Box, I see 720 DPI as the Print Quality value at Item 2 - Printer Settings on the right hand side of the PSE print dialog box.  Even if I change the printer driver's print quality to 1440dpi x 1440 dpi, the print quality value remains at 720 DPI at item 2 in the PSE print dialog box.
I expected to see a value of either 1440 DPI or 5760 DPI values in the PSE print dialog box after setting the print quality in the printer driver.
How can I tell the  PSE10 print dialog box that my printer is set to 1440dpi, or higher, or will the printer still print at the the printer driver's setting regardless of  the DPI value in the PSE print dialog box?

save your settings as a preset... after you click print and change your settings... click on the Presets drop down and save as... it defaults to the last used preset provided you saved your changes.

Please solve this as early as possible.

    Hi Ravi,
You can choose for the print version to be created as a PostScript file instead of a PDF document. The PostScript file is then sent directly to a printer of your choice
If you do not specify an output device here, a PDF file is generated and displayed on the screen.
You use the methods of the interface class IF_SALV_WD_PDF_SETTINGS for this (implementing class CL_SALV_WD_CONFIG_TABLE).
    <b>Function</b>                      <b>Method</b>
Set ALV output to be printed immediately -->  SET_PRINT_IMMEDIATE
Check whether the ALV output is to be printed immediately --> GET_PRINT_IMMEDIATE
    Set printer -->  SET_PRINTER
    Get printer --> GET_PRINTER

  • How set printer defaults for a printer

My motivation is to have my wife's new MacBook always print double-sided. Currently she needs to select the preset that we've made for printing duplex, but that's easy to forget to do.
    OS is 10.4.7
Is there a way to set the printer defaults in this OS?
I want to have duplex just be the default, even after reboot, and if she wants to print single-sided then she'd need to select the other preset.
BTW: If it makes a difference -- We're using a Xerox 8550DP, for which the duplex selection is in the standard place of Print -> Layout -> Two-sided -> Long-edged binding
(Some other printers require using the duplex selection in their own printer's section under that Copies & Pages dropdown menu but not this one.)
Maybe I'm just not a very good searcher. I searched many here, MacFixit, MacWorld magazine, generally on the web. Looked in my David Pogues's Tiger book and Andy Ihnatko's Tiger book. I came up with nothing about setting printer defaults at all.
I bet I can tweek it in a pref file. I hope I don't have to resort to a hack to do something this standard.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!
PB G4, MacMini (Tiger Server), MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I think you can do this. Set up a two-sided setting,
and save it. Print with it. Then find the preference
    file com.apple.print.custompresets.plist, choose Get
    Info, and lock it.
If you want to save another setting, you will have to
    unlock it.
Hey this is only a workaround but it is a pretty darned good workaround, especially because it's not too invasive (only locking a pref file at the user level) and what's stored in that custompresets.plist file is com.apple.print.lastPresetPref, which is probably the key to your suggestion. I think I understand it, anyway.
I followed that procedure, created a Custom Preset with duplex turned on which I named "Standard Duplex", then locked the file you suggest that's in my user's home Library. It survived app switching and a reboot. It seems to work great, and I can still use the Standard setting as well if I want to. I even chose the custom setting and although it's locked the temp changes I made were enacted (I chose to print this page, scaled to fit a #10 envelope) and that worked too. The Standard or other presets can still be chosen when you want to use those, and the app remembers the last setting through the rest of the session, it's just that upon opening an app the default is now my custom "Standard Duplex". This does what I want.
I think this is a great workaround. I'm going to go load it onto my wife's MacBook. I suppose I should mark this solved even though there's no real, y'know, user-manual way to do this. Maybe something I'll just hope is a feature in Leopard.
Thank you Bruce and all the other helpful folks who pondered on this one! Heh, I'm sure 1/2 of the tree population thanks you too.

  • How to automatically set Print Scaling to 'None'

Is there any way to automatically set print scaling to 'none' on an existing PDF document?
This setting is set manually by going to File > Properties, and then going to the 'Advanced' tab and changing the 'Page Scaling' preference from 'Default' to 'None'. This preference can then be saved with the document.
There seems to be no way to do this via javascript but if anyone has found a way to automate this that would be great!!!
Ideally I want to run this as a batch process across a number of PDFs. Maybe as a last resort there is a way to do this using "execMenuItem"????
Many thanks in advance for your help!!!!
    HJ

Would something along these lines would work???
"if printing 1:1 is critical, my recommendation would
be to have an area on the page(s) for which scaling must be performed
where you explicitly state the requirement for no scaling AND in which
you place an line of known length, let's say an inch or a centimeter with
text that warns that if that line is not exactly at the size specified,
    to reprint without scaling."

  • Customize countdown in Print to Video--How to??

Customize countdown in Print to Video--How to??
    FCP 4.5HD.
    Ted.

If you didn't use black after the couple of frames of the "2," what would you put between there and the starty of program?
You CAN change the black if you want... but there's a reason for :02 of black:
It's expected and necessary in live television.
Black is necessary on the tape in order to be able to go from "black to black" as when going into a commercial break.
------- stop here if you don't want the background on why---
The tape is cued to a specific number of seconds ahead of sound and then rolled when the director calls a "roll tape" or "Roll VTR _" cue. The countdown rolls by in the monitor, and the director and technical director can see when picture's up, then take the video.
There's usually a fade to black out of program and then eithe a cut or fade to the next video/audio source.
A similar process happens at the end of the commercial. At a specific number of seconds before the end of commercial #1, commercial #2 is rolled... then taken... and so forth if things are coming off of separate tape machines.
Black at the head and tail of spots lets a simple routing switcher make the change from playback device to playback device.
In the "olden days" before automated tape playback machines, commercials were either on film reels (edited together into clusters with a countdown at the beginning and black leader on the tail,) on a videotape that was edited together in a similar fashion... or... (sometimes dangerously so) rolled from four or five different tape machines "live" on the air.
If things were rolled "live," one right after another, I'm sure that there were a lot of praying break operators in stations where equipment was old, maintainence was lax and Murphy was a regular visitor.
The countdown and black on each commercial was a necessary timing tool in order to get through the break cleanly. I can tell you from experience that NOT having them made life verrry dicey when it came to getting in and out of program elements cleanly.
The RCA TCR 100 Cart machine and the Ampex model that did the same thing) would play all the elements in a break and do the switching in between... simplifying the process... until there was a breakdown of the machine, and then you should have seen the scramble in Master Control and/or the tape room.
Its a lot different these days if the station or network airing the commercials plays spots (commercials) off a file server... it's a different game entirely.
Everything is automated and "trimmed" when it's transferred (or start and finish marked on the file).
In that case. the countdown is not needed to get the commercial on the air... but is included to ensure that there's a reference for where the spot actually begins. The :02 of black is still included, since stations traditionally fade or cut to black between spots.
The countdown itself was designed to allow theater projectionists make smooth changes from reel to reel as a movie was projected on the screen.
The projectionist would thread the film on the incoming projector so that the first "10" was in the gate.
As the outgoing reel ended... little cue dots in the upper right hand corner of the screen "cued" the projectionist when to roll the upcoming reel... and then a specific number of seconds later—ten in our example—a second set of cue dots (four frames worth) on the screen would cue him to hit the changeover button, opening a douser on the incoming projector and closing one on the outgoing projector... and swapping audio sources at the same time.
The countdown performs a similar function in live television: The tape is cued to a specific number of seconds ahead of sound and then rolled when the director calls a "roll tape" or "Roll VTR _" cue. The countdown rolls by in the monitor, and the director and technical director can see when picture's up, then take the video.
You'd think that woould be the case for movie packages and syndicated television shows, right?

On the printer driver documentation, Page 5, in the Imaging setting, although the options are not specifically shown, there should be an option on that screen of the print driver to click and select "B/W" or 'black and white' or 'grayscale' or 'monochrome' as Print Mode rather than the "Full Color" option shown in the illustration below.
You access these settings once you have selected 'Print' from an app.
If necessary, you might need to click on the 'Down arrow' button next to the printer name (OS X 10.6), or 'Show Details' button at the bottom of the print dialog box (OS X 10.8) to see additional settings.
