Re-sizing thumbnails

When viewing the fotos in an event, I can't see them all (as thumbnails). I read of a situation like this in a thread and the guy said he just re-sized the thumbnails. How do you do it?
THANKS, DOUG

In Event view - in the lower right hand corner of the window there is a slider - move it toward the left and the event thumbnails will get smaller

  • Overlapping/wrong-sized thumbnails in filmstrip

    I do have a problem with the thumbnails in the filmstrip. My catalog contains 56K pictures.
    Having all pictures shown in the filmstrip, the thumbnails start overlapping each other, starting roundabout at position 30000.
    The problem is getting worse the higher the numbers get.
    My system:  i7-2600K W7-64bit 16GB Nvidia graphics- current driver. This issue occurs with LR3.6 and LR 4.x
    Here is an example showing position 50000:
    Any ideas ?

    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • New tab page shows tiled and poorly sized thumbnails

    Just upgraded from 12 to 13, new tab page looks awful. Most of the images show tiled versions of the webpages, with about 1.8 copies of each page horizontally and 1.5 vertically in each image.

    Hiya! First Off: I Love Your Work! Firefox is great and thank you for giving it to us :)
    I'm having the same problem listed above. Disabling hardware accelaration did not fix it. I'm on Firefox 13, Linux - Beefy Miracle. I'm including a screenshot.
    Any suggestions?
    oh, quick side note: Window's users get a cool orange Firefox badge to the left of the tabs... linux users just get a plain text Firefox link. Can't wait to get the attractive aesthetics made available to windows' users!

  • [SOLVED]Nautilus not "zooming" video thumbnails

    Hi!
    When i set Nautilus to more than 100% "zoom", the icons of video files get bigger but the thumbnails drawn on them stay the same size, so the video files look like a big white rectangle with a small (regular sized) thumbnail in the middle of it.
    Setting Nautilus to less than 100% zoom has video thumbnauls scale down correctly. Inside the .thumbnails folders, the png's belonging to videos and other files look both ok and exactly the same way, but the ploblem only occurs with actual video files.
    I noticed, that pictures in big folders first show the same way, shortly after the thumbnails are generated - but they are shown appropriately after a few seconds and video file icons stay that way permanently no matter what.
    Any idea how to solve that? thx!

    Found inside: abs/extra/libgnomeui
    File: gnome-thumbnail.c
    changed:
      size = 128;
      if (factory->priv->size == GNOME_THUMBNAIL_SIZE_LARGE)
        size = 256;
    ...to:
      size = 256;
      if (factory->priv->size == GNOME_THUMBNAIL_SIZE_LARGE)
        size = 256;
    compiled, restarted nautilus: WORKING FINE NOW
    But i don't think this is like it's supposed to be (and I've got no idea what else I changed by doubling that value). So, whatever that part I altered does - shouldn't there be something like...:
      size = 128;
      if (factory->priv->size == GNOME_THUMBNAIL_SIZE_LARGE)
        size = 256;
      if (factory->priv->size == GNOME_THUMBNAIL_SIZE_LARGEST)
        size = 512;
    or something?
    Well, I've got got big thumbnailed video icons again, so I'll leave all the sourcecode I don't understand alone for a while now. I'm not marking this thread as "solved" yet, as the method I used to get where I want is most likely very, very, very wrong.
    (edit: jupp, still working after reboot. source messy, thumbnails big, me happy. )

  • Is there a way to change the automatic optimization of the Thumbnail images in Webgallery?

    Is there a way to change the automatic optimization of the Thumbnail images in webgallery found in Photoshop (CS3 or Photoshop elements-- I have both)?  The thumbnails come out so blurry that it's embarrassing (for an art site). Thanks.

    Thanks for your response. Your websites look great!  You are to be complimented on your fine design work.
    I've been doing custom sized thumbnails, at around 300px, but they are still a little blurry, like when JPEGs are over optimized and some isolated areas look like they are churning, one shape melting into another like boiling water.  Then, I tried even larger thumbnails, and then shrunk them to a smaller size using HTML commands, hoping  that shrinking them smaller would help tighten up the blurry churning areas. They looked a little better, but the churning areas remained.  When I open up the individual thumbnails in Photoshop and I try using the unsharp mask or the sharpen function, it gets even worse.

  • Thumbnails when saving... Just like in Photoshop.

    When it exports it should really make thumbnails like it does in p-shop.
    That's all.
    I'll be here all week.

    Lee Jay, you are also not a PSCS user. I don't know if this happens on a PC or not but on a Mac when saving in PSCS, the Image icon instead of being a generic PS icon with TIFF or JPEG or the like appended to the Icon, an Icon sized thumbnail image is generated for the image and used individually for each image.
    LR does not do this. The OP and others would like it to. This is as apposed to the preview on can see in a finder window or, I presume in Expolorer.
    A Mac does this for you on the Desktop, but not in a Folder view Finder Window.
    It does, however with an option change do it the single FOlder View. I had not known this 'til now.
    OP:
    Go to a Finder window. Click on the left hand view option. Colntrol Click in the Window for Show View Options and select 'Show Icon Preview'.
    Does that work for you?

  • Photo Mechanic Metadata & Small Thumbnails

    I'm new to Aperture and I'm using V1.5.
    I imported some photos that had metadata added in Photo Mechanic. The thumbnails for the imported files are very small in Aperture (288x192 pixels). Even when I send the file from Aperture to an external editor (PhotoShop) the file is sent as a small image. For example, a Canon 1Ds raw file is sent to PhotoShop as a 288x192 pixel image!
    If I process the raw through Adobe's DNG converter and then reimport the image, the the thumbnail looks as it should and transfers to external editor fine. However, the metadata no longer shows up in Aperture (although I can see it is still there if I look at the file with Bridge or Photo Mechanic).
    Once the DNG file is in Aperture, if I quit Aperture and then edit the metadata in PhotoMechanic again, the little thumbnail is back when I restart Aperture.
    JPEG files and unmodified RAW files have the proper sized thumbnails. Building previews does not change a thing.
    Anybody else seeing this?
    Karen
    PowerMac G5 Dual 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Photo Mechanic 4.4.3.3, DNG Converter 3.5

    Thank you for responding, jrg_uk. I have filed a feedback report with Apple. BTW, Bridge and Lightroom don't have the same problem rendering a preview from a Photo Mechanic modified file.
    I posted my same question on Photo Mechanic's forum and received this response:
    ME: ...a Canon 1Ds raw file is sent to PhotoShop as a 288x192 pixel image!
    PM: That's the exact size of the thumbnail inside the 1Ds TIF file. Aperture, (actually ImageIO which Aperture uses to render RAW files) has a fairly naive parser for some file formats. Files that have been modified at all render ImageIO useless with some files. We have filed numerous bug reports with Apple on this issue and only a small portion have been addressed. When Aperture exports a file for editing, it creates a new file and in this case this new file has lost all of the RAW data. It is no longer present due in part to this bug.
    ME: Imported photos without IPTC data added with Photo Mechanic do not have this problem.
    PM: That's because those files pass right through their naive parser.
    ME: If I process the problem raw file through Adobe's DNG converter...
    PM: Once again their naive parser gets tripped up by simple modifications to the file. We'll have to file a bug on their DNG parser too!
    Evidently, the workaround for now is to use Photo Mechanic's XMP sidecar setting workflow.

  • How can I automate creation of various thumbnails of an image with different filenames?

    I load an image, SampleA.jpg.  I want to automate creation of different sized thumbnails, one that is 640x360 and called SampleA iStock.jpg, and one that is 360x203 and called SampleA Revostock.jpg.  I want these files to be stored in the same directory as the source image.
    To my knowledge actions cannot do this because they hardwire the directory used when recording the action.
    I've also looked into scripts and batch processing and can't figure out how they can accomplish this.
    If anyone could list a simple step by step instruction how I can do this I would be very appreciative!

  • Syncing issues, Ovi Suite on Windows 7: Some sugge...

    Hi. I was complaining on my twitter about Ovi's last release and someone asked me to report about my experiences here. For most of the issues I did a workaround by myself but I think that I'll not be the only one reporting them and experiencing the same problems, so I'd like to show my thoughts as a suggestion for the next releases.
    When I started Ovi Suite after the installation to explore the changes, I had a massive system slowdown and I'm running a Core 2 Quad! Then I realized that Ovi was indexing ALL of my PC musics and photos, including subfolders.
    Ok, that's what the software was designed for, the problem is that I have over 30GB of images on my Pictures folder and 22GB on Music. I never checked to immediate syncing when my device is connected neither search my local library, but I just clicked on Music tab and my PC went to a extreme slowdown, NokiaMServer.exe on top CPU usage and crashed. It got worse when I connected my Nokia: It forced to sync the entire 22GB Music files on a 8GB SD! Someone missed a condition there to check if the device has enough space!
    I'm not discussing how I sync my music files but I download a lot of 320kb bitrate songs which each one has 11~25MB so as my headphones won't play a louder sound than any 96KB AAC, I convert all that I want to hear on my device and just drag and drop with all of metatags including album covers, works for me. From now I'll put all of my converted files on a specific folder, sync with Ovi and keep everything organized BUT why the hell isn't there a screen asking me to select the default folders for syncing on the first run?
    ...And the same thing happened to my pictures, just a little bit worse. My system was crashing, Windows Explorer crashed, NokiaMServer went to 25% CPU usage on Task Manager because of thumbnail processing! Really, why the hell would I like to put my entire Pictures folder on my cellphone, especially huge files?
    To stop Music indexing, I just selected all songs and deleted them from the Ovi's database/collection without messing with my iTunes library (though some metatags and album covers were corrupted) but for the pictures, deleting 35MB from catalog on my own computer lasted longer than using Bluetooth or the old Nokia Phone Browser to send a 100MB file!
    Removing the folders from "folder-watch" or changing the library addresses over the Options should clean Ovi's library/collection but it didn't worked, Ovi kept adding pictures and songs. The only way to stop the ridiculous thumbnail processing (from pictures which I also moved to another folder just in case) was deleting "\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Intellisync", "\AppData\Local\Nokia\Nokia Data Store" and "\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Ovi Suite" and seting Ovi's to sync to another folder.
    I know that there's a lot of people that don't put that amount of files on Windows default documents folders but I can't understand why this software is so slow for simple commands that other softwares can do better! Even the old PC Suite with Nokia Phone Browser was faster when copying or moving a file to another folder and now it's not even modifying or sending files, it is only reading and indexing!
    So, I think that it's not much to ask to Nokia/Ovi developers:
    1. Let users choose the default folders for syncing BEFORE start syncing.
    2. Faster indexing and exclusion for Ovi's library. Don't waste time processing a half-screen-sized thumbnail, just show a 128x128 and if the user wants to see the full-sized picture, make Ovi launch system's default picture viewer/editor. After all, your own pictures don't have DRM...
    3. Nokia Music: Can someone explain me how to lock that damn scroll-bar? Because when I'm exploring my songs suddenly the bar goes back to the top! If you want to make a stylish scroll-bar, fine, but please, make it functional as a normal scroll-bar! Otherwise use system's default!
    4. Again about Nokia Music: Something I thought it was nice was letting users choose what application they wanted to use for syncing songs, because some legacy devices don't work with Nokia Music and transferring files from Nokia Music Manager was faster because you didn't had to change you connection type from PC Suite to Media Device. Fortunately for me, iTunes AAC format works fine to reduce disk usage on my devices, but it would nice if Ovi could convert songs for a smaller file size as Music Manager did.
     5. I'm also experiencing some random nokiaaserver.exe crashes without any Nokia application running at the same time.
    That's all. I hope someone read it and understand my point of view.

    use this version. it has most of the bugs fixed...
    keep in mind that if you are using a win 764bit, there are still issues with crashing.

  • PSE 6 Problems Fixed in PSE 7

    Over the past year, Ive kept a list of PSE 6 problems Ive encountered and verified:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b65e1b/0
    Ive tested those problems in PSE 7 on my computer, and the results appear below.
    PSE 6 problems that appear to have been fixed in PSE 7 are marked [F], and problems that arent fixed are marked [NF]. Because of limitations of the forum, this list is split across several messages.
    Overview
    The good news is that Adobe has fixed many of the most serious problems with PSE 6:
    - The missing Help content.
    - The inability to use raw files on a newer computer.
    - The Move command that deleted files.
    - The low-contrast grey-on-black user interface.
    In addition, the PSE 7 Organizer seems significantly zippier for scrolling and searching (with my 13K catalog and someone elses 68K catalog).
    The not-so-good news is that a fair number of serious problems and a large number of minor ones remain unfixed:
    - The Organizer still gets horribly confused by reassignment of drive letters and drives with duplicate serial numbers, situations that occur when people upgrade their computers.
    - Numerous problems with searching, including the broken timeline and exclude keyword category.
    - Folder Location view still shows incorrect folder contents.
    - Map view remains a buggy toy that cant handle more than several hundred photos.
    - Date/times set by Adjust Date and Time can still be lost silently.
    - High-resolution displays with DPIs larger than 96 arent supported.
    - The Organizer shows incorrect colors for Adobe RGB photos.
    There are 65 issues listed here, 37 of which are major, causing data loss or seriously impeding functionality with no easy, obvious workaround. Of the 37 major issues, 13 have been fixed. Of the 28 minor issues, 8 have been fixed.
    Ive reported all of these problems to Adobe. Almost all of them are in the Organizer. Based on all the reports on the forums, it appears that the PSE 6 Editor has far fewer problems the Organizer. Perhaps thats because the Editor shares the same code with the professional Photoshop, while the Organizer appears to be an orphaned consumer product whose development Adobe has moved offshore.
    For reference, my computer is a midrange laptop with a dual-core 1.8 GHz processor, 3 GB of memory, and a 7200 RPM disk (the same speed as desktop disks).
    Raw Files
    Major Problems
    [F] On a multiprocessor, the Organizer behaves erratically with catalogs containing raw files: sometimes it crashes, sometimes it shows the hourglass icon for raw files, sometimes it shows the broken-image icon.
    [F] In a catalog with large numbers of raw files, scrolling quickly over dozens or hundreds of large-sized thumbnails will consume 100% CPU for a minute or longer.

    Part II
    File Management and Tagging
    Major Problems
    [F] The File > Move command will silently and permanently lose a file if the destination folder has a file of the same name as the file being moved; this is different behavior than PSE 5.
    [F] The File > Move command loses the association between the photo and the audio caption, even though it moves both files to the new location.
    [F] If you move or rename a catalog using File > Catalog > Move/Rename, you can no longer edit existing slideshows in the catalog.
    [F] Tag hierarchies with more than 500 or so tags make the Keywords pane unusably slow (but worked fine in PSE 5).
    [F] The Photo Downloader process APDProxy.exe crashes at startup because of a missing DLL.
    ]This problem doesnt occur in my PSE 7. But it was clearly a timing-dependent bug (a race condition) that came and went for me and many others, so it may be still lurking. Adobe has a tech note that says it occurs with PSE 7, but the tech note gives symptoms and a workaround that only apply to PSE 6, suggesting a cut-and-paste error by a PSE 7 support person.
    [NF] The Organizer fails very ungracefully when two drives have the same volume serial number, e.g. because of the use of a disk-cloning utility.
    ]Im very disappointed that Adobe didnt add the three lines of code that would have issued a warning when it discovered two drives with the same number. While most people will never encounter this, when it strikes someone, its symptoms are very mysterious. Adobes tech note on the issue gives incorrect and misleading information about possible solutions.
    [NF] The Reconnect command fails to reconnect when: you move your photos to a new drive, assign the drive the letter of the old drive to the new one, and leave both drives connected to your computer.
    [NF] If a hard drive containing photos in the catalog gets its drive letter reassigned by Windows, then the left-hand folder pane of Display > Folder Location view shows the old drive letter, not the new one, as containing the photos.
    ]This sounds innocuous, but it led a user on the forums to select the wrong drive when dragging and dropping a folder, permanently deleting some files. This bug and the previous one with Reconnect have the same underlying cause the Organizer doesnt update drive letters in its catalog.
    [NF] Folder Location view shows incorrect folder contents when more than one keyword tag is selected in the Keyword Tags pane.
    ]Based on reports on the forums, there appear to be other situations where Folder Location view shows incorrect folder contents, but they havent been easy to reproduce.
    Minor Problems
    [F] The File > Rename command no longer includes leading zeroes, causing the renamed files to sort incorrectly in Windows Explorer.
    [F] Display > Import Batch shows the wrong time for batches imported by the Photo Downloader; if the local time zone is UTC-8:00, then the time will be 8 hours earlier.
    [F] The Organizer doesnt unlock an edited file saved to a folder whose name contains an apostrophe.
    [NF] In File > Export, the Common Basename can no longer be empty, and a hyphen is added automatically, so you can no longer get files named 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc.
    ]You can get files named 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc. but you cant get files named p1.jpg, p2.jpg, etc. a hyphen is still added in that case.
    [NF] Setting the Apply Metadata > Author or Copyright fields or the option Preserve Current Filename In XMP of the advanced options of the Photo Downloader causes duplicate files to be downloaded and imported.
    Map View
    Major Problems
    [NF] Map view is unusably slow with more than about 6-8,000 mapped photos.
    ]When I tested PSE 7 by importing 12,000 photos (the size of my catalog) that had GPS locations, the red push-pins didnt blink uncontrollably as they did in PSE 6. But the Organizer crashed a number of times when I tried to zoom and pan the Map view until I was able to scroll the map to another country and then back again. The CPU continued to consume 80% of a single CPU (40% of two), even 10 minutes after I closed Map view. When I selected Limit Search to Map Area, PSE took over a minute to respond.
    [NF] It takes 5 seconds to assign a keyword tag to a photo if there are 1,000 or more photos with map locations.
    ]In PSE 7, it takes 3 seconds with 1,000 photos, 12 seconds with 8,000 photos, and 18 seconds with 12,000 photos.
    [NF] Giving a map location to a tag assigned to hundreds of photos makes both the Keywords pane and the Map view unusably slow.
    ]Giving a map location to a tag assigned to 2000 photos makes assigning any keyword tag to a photo very slow (see above). Searching on keyword tags takes 15 seconds, and a Show All takes 15 seconds.
    [NF] Removing the map push-pin of a tag assigned to hundreds of photos mistakenly tries to update the metadata of each photo, which can take tens of minutes and fill up your recycle bin.
    ]The weird thing is that assigning a map location to the tag doesnt try to write the metadata of files with that tag.
    [NF] Moving map locations always fails, silently (too bad if you want to record backcountry locations not namable via a place name).
    [NF] If a photo with GPS coordinates is imported, it doesnt show as a red push-pin on the map.
    ]Scrolling the map or restarting the Organizer causes the pin to appear.

  • The "Recently Used" entry in the file open/save dialog

    The file selection dialog (eg: save/open/etc) on gtk applications has a "Recently Used" option:
    Over size imaged reduced to link
    This has generally not shown any options for me (for some reason, firefox suddenly showed a single entry this time).
    I find no use for it either, so rather than having it list recent entries I'd like this option gone (or at least stop being the default!), and the last-used (or maybe just my home) being shown by default.
    Any hints on how to disable this? What about the "Search" option just above it (equally non-working, and equally undesired by myself).
    Moderator edit:  Converted over sized thumbnail to text.  (Hint:  Your img embedded in a url was perfect -- except the image should be a thumbnail, not the full sized image.  Feel free to edit this post and remove my redaction if you want to use img tags with a small thumbnail)

    hoschi wrote:Your mostly empty "recent" location is probably caused by two circumstances. Firefox is still using GTK2 (and it seperate caches?) and your not using GNOME (as it looks like).
    No, I'm not using gnome. And this was actually the first time I saw this dialog non-empty. However, it's not related to gtk2 or gtk3: I see the same behaviour on gtk3 apps.
    I all honesty though, I don't care about recently used being populated because I anticipate having the same results you've just described.

    Thanks, I'm aware of this, but this merely covers the firefox download option (firefox seems to actually remember the last used), not all gtk apps in general.

  • Web gallery max out at 500 images

    Hi, I'm using LR 3.5 and when I creat a web gallery it maxes out at 500 images, even though there are 776 photos in the gallery and all 776 are selected. In fact, the image number below the preview shows 1/500 instead of 1/776. When i look at the uploaded website it also only shows 500 images. In Library mode I see all 776 images, and also in Web mode I see all 776. When I switch from Library to Web I see the "Update Web Gallery" in the top left corner of the window. It shows the progress window: "Export image fliename-001" and continues up to image 500, then stops. So it appears it is only exporting 500 images.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hopefully you appreciated I was being semi serious! Many pros would see part of their job being to whittle a big shoot down to a reasonable number to present to the client, and secondly I'd question if going through a slideshow in sequential order is the best way to review a large number of pictures - better than a grid of decent-sized thumbnails? Those are obviously judgement calls and I don't like a 500 limit being imposed.
    Now, to make your updated version survive Lightroom updates:
    Copy the Flash gallery's folder
    Paste it into Win C:\Users\john\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Web Galleries or Mac Users\john\Library\Adobe\Lightroom\Web Galleries
    In galleryinfo.lrweb, change the ID - just add your initials
    In galleryinfo.lrweb, change the title to something like "Flash Gallery (edited)"
    When you restart LR, you'll see "Flash Gallery (edited)" in the Layout Style panel
