Re-start Oracle 10g DB is required if server time is changed?

I had a doubt that will a re-start of Oracle 10g DB be required if there is a change in server time? Our Server OS is RHEL 4.0(Linux). The server time is probably behind the time by 15 mins.
I hope, my question is clear.
Please, help in solving the doubt.
regards

Even though it is not required to stop/start the database when the OS time is changed, based on personal experience, I would highly recommend that you stop the applications and database before changing the OS time. We had Linux admin change the time once and mistakenly had the value for the year in the date out one year in the future. They caught the mistake quickly and reset to the to the proper date and time but the damage was already done. The time you spend fixing all jobs, especially if running Oracle applications where alerts and processes fire off thinking it is past time to run, is much less pain than scheduling a downtime for the time change and verifying the date/time befort starting things up again. It may be low risk and it up to you but it isn't fun trying to explain to the user community and management the reason that something like this happened.

    Asif,
    IMO, the OP wanted to have steps given to him for the database creation , not the installation of the software.Not sure though since the wording chosen by him is not very clear.
    @OP,
    If you are looking for the database creation steps , the best would be to use DBCA! Other than that, you may want to look at the manual way of doing the same, given over here.

    That said, if you were looking for the installation instructions, please look at the link given by Asif.

    I have tried to configure the machine so that the Oracle listener and database start up when the computer boots by trying to open the /etc/oratab and trying to change the ‘N’ at the end to a ‘Y’.
    Unfortunately,the /etc/oratab does not exist in my system.But I have been able to open YaST and Go to /etc/sysconfig Editor > Productivity > Databases > Tools > Oracle > DB and change the following to “yes”:
    - START_ORACLE_DB
    - START_ORACLE_DB_LISTENER
    - START_ORACLE_DB_EMANAGER
    - START_ORACLE_DB_ISQLPLUS
    Unluckily,when I type the following commands at the terminal,I get the response that they (the commands) do not exist
    a. Start Oracle listener – lsnrctl start
    b. Start Enterprise manager services – emctl start dbconsole
    c. Start iSQL *Plus – isqlplusctl start
    d. Check if sqlplus is working:
    sqlplus “connect / as sysdba“
    How do I solve this problem?

    Hallo!I am using openSUSE 11.1 i586.Moreover I installed Oracle 10g R2 from the zipped file 10201_database_linux32 .These are the steps I followed to install Oracle 10g into my Linux platform.I borrowed them from 2 web pages
    Oracle_on_openSUSE || The URL-http://en.opensuse.org/Oracle_on_openSUSE
    Installing Oracle 10g on openSUSE 10.3||The URL-http://tianawarner.blogspot.com/2008/08/installing-oracle-10g-on-opensuse-103.html
    1)I ensured that the packages below have been installed first
    -kernel-source
    binutils
    gcc
    gcc-c++
    glibc
    libaio
    libaio-devel
    make
    gnome-libs
    libstdc++
    libstdc++-devel
    xscreensaver
    sysstat
    3)I then installed orarun
    4)Log in as super user and go to /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh.Change the variable ORACLE_HOME to /home/JOEY
    5) Configure the new oracle user.
    a. Type passwd oracle in the terminal. Change the password for the oracle user.
    b. Type rcoracle start to set kernel parameters. Ignore any errors.
    c. Go to YaST > User Management. To see the oracle user, set the filter to System Users.
    - Find the oracle user and click edit.
    - Uncheck disable user login.
    - Go to the details tab and make sure the login shell is set to /bin/bash.
    7)Copy the oracle s/w from CD,unrar it and store unzipped folder as oracle on the Desktop
    8)Modify the ‘certified versions’ section of the disk’s /install/oraparam.ini file, to add support for openSUSE 11.1. Just add SuSE-11 to the end of the line.
    9)Set the DISPLAY. As administrator type in xhost +. Log in as the oracle user by typing su - oracle and then type export DISPLAY=:0
    10)Set updated kernel parameters by executing rcoracle start.
    11)Log out as root.Log in as normal user at the shell.Move into the oracle folder in the terminal and run ./runInstaller.
    12)The OUI dialog box appeared,I entered the password in the two password entry text boxes.I left the default database as orcl.I never did any other command based configuration.Just used the OUI to proceed installation in the simplistic manner that one uses while installing Oracle in Windows.
    13)I did get 2 errors (I cannot remember them)but I ignored them and proceeded to finish the Oracle installation.
    14) I tried to Configure the machine so that the Oracle listener and database start up when the computer boots.
    a. Type gedit /etc/oratab from root. Change the ‘N’ at the end to a ‘Y’.I tried this but could not find the oratab file.
    b. Open YaST. Go to /etc/sysconfig Editor > Productivity > Databases > Tools > Oracle > DB. Change the following to “yes”:
    - START_ORACLE_DB
    - START_ORACLE_DB_LISTENER
    - START_ORACLE_DB_EMANAGER
    - START_ORACLE_DB_ISQLPLUS
    15)I successfully implemented part b above
    When I tried to perform the following checks:
    a. Start Oracle listener – lsnrctl start
    b. Start Enterprise manager services – emctl start dbconsole
    c. Start iSQL *Plus – isqlplusctl start
    d. Check if sqlplus is working:
    sqlplus “connect / as sysdba“
    I received the errors commands do not exist.
    Please give me a correct step-by-step guide of how to install the Oracle.If I will need to uninstall my Oracle in order to install it correctly,please give me a step by step uninstallation guide.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Unable to start Oracle 10g instance on boot time (CentOS)

    Hi all,
    I am trying to automate oracle instance start-up on boot time. I have created /etc/oratab and /etc/init.d/dbora files. Also, all the links for run-levels 2,3,4 are set. My machine boots in run-level 3. While I can start the database manually, after the system has booted, I am not able to automate the instance start-up at boot time. Following is the error, I get:
    oracle: /oracle/bin/lsnrctl: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.9.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    I know that normally this problem occurs due to LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable problem. So, I have set the following in /etc/init.d/dbora file.
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    System-config (uname -a):

    Any help on this issue is highly appreciated.

  • Start Oracle Internet Directory failing... server context is null

    I'm trying to install Oracle Internet Directory on a RHEL5 64 bit for the first time.
    The database (11.2.0.3), Weblogic (10.3.6), and OID (11.1.1.6) have all installed okay, and I'm running the config.sh script.

    I notice that Metalink ID: " FMW 11g Oracle Internet Directory Configuration Process Fail: Error Creating Ascomponent Oid1 [ID 1289015.1]" refers to IPV6. I only have IPV4 enabled. Is IPV6 a mandatory requirement for OID?
    Thanks in advance.

    I downloaded the RCU 11.1.1.6 patch (13517109) and it ran fine this way (after a drop/create on the OID schemas).
    Obviously running the {Middleware_Home}/Oracle_IDM1/bin/rcu file isn't the way to do it. I'll pay closer attention next time....
    Thanks for your help.

    I have some issues in creating a new app. server using standalone oc4j 10g 10.1.3 instance. After I created the app. server instance, I tested the connection and it says connection refused. I used the userid as oc4jadmin and the password as welcome. I am getting a message connection refused.
