Re-starting Express Service on Unix
I have installed Express Server 6.3.1 on Unix and installation was successful. I changed some parameters using Instance Manager, after which I asked to stop and re-start Express service. I stopped the service, but I am not able to re-start it.

Kiran, try these steps:
1. Stop Express from Unix using:
express stop.
If it fails it may reply the process id that failed to stop (it may take a while to reply, tho). Kill it using:
kill -9 pid
where pid is the process id.
2. Make sure there is no other Express process up before restarting Express. Use:
ps -ef | grep xs
3. Kill the Express related processes listed
after issuing this command using:
kill -9 pid.
4. Restart Express from Unix:
express start
It helps to set EIM to start the Service Manually when testing service startup.

Systemd logind.service reports an error: Failed to start login service

I found this error in /var/log/errors.log and /var/log/daemon.log although my system functions normally.
It's been written there every 90 seconds!!!!:

Updating system with pacman didn't solve it.
Did I miss something out while migrating to systemd, is it a problem with SLiM or user session maybe ? Do you guys have any ideas where to start ? Thanks.

We have OBIEE installed on a unix server. Previoulsy I worked on OBIEE on windows server and would go to services and start/stop services. My question is if we modify the rpd and ftp it to unix server, do we have to stop and start the BI server for the modified rpd to work. Is it mandatory to stop the BI server, ftp the rpd and then start BI server again. Or if we do not stop the BI server and just do Refresh matadata from Answers..will this work? Thanks.Hi User,
You should restart the services if u ftping the rpd to unix means deploying the rpd to effect the changes
When comes to refresh metadata this ll work in case when the rpd opened in online mode and some one has made changes to get the available changes u have to do "Refresh Metadata"

RE: Native Forte Clients with Express Services
I would be very interested in hearing from anyone using Express who may
have attempted using Native Forte Clients with Express Services, especially
what problems/issues (if any) you encountered and whether you found it to
be a successful way to develop complex screens where the 'look and feel'
can't be achieved with Express alone.I wrote a general-purpose windows framework which uses Express Services for its
database access. Had I known what I was letting myself in for, I probably
wouldn't have attempted it! I started it when Express V1 was fairly new, and
Express Windows did not support the types and complexity of relationships
required by the application we were developing. I soon discovered how
difficult it is to implement a completely general framework which handles every
possible permutation. Obviously I ended up making compromises, but what we
have now meets our needs very well. We are about to upgrade to Express V2, so
the real test will be whether the framework migrates smoothly to the new
release.
If I were starting a new project now with Express V2, I don't know if I would
go down the same path. If you do, be aware of the following (based on my
experience of Express V1):
* Your design MUST obey the fundamental rules of Express Services. Your
BusinessQueries must be fired off by the correct BusinessClient subclass,
your BusinessClass attributes must be logged at the right time (depending
on which concurrency scheme you are using), and you must start and end
Express transactions (different to Forte transactions) appropriately.
* Your design needs to take into account the difference in the way Express
Services handles aggregate and non-aggregate associations.
* If you manage parent-child class relationships from your windows, you must
make sure you set and log foreign key attributes at the right time. If
the relationship is not aggregation, you must also manage the order in
which the records are saved to the database (if you use referential
integrity constraints).
* If you call Express Services directly from the windows, it is hard to
reconcile the asynchronous nature of a windows interface with the
database's requirement for things to happen in a certain order. (From
memory, there was a very good discussion in this user group last year of
what should constitute a unit of work in the windows paradigm.) If I
were doing it again, I would move all the Express-related objects and
method calls from the windows to a separate layer, which would manage
putting together the data from multiple windows, assigning foreign keys
and firing things off in the right order.

OBIEE Javahost service on Unix
I am new to OBIEE and I have installed the Presentation service on windows server while BI server is running on Unix server. Do I need to run the Javahost service on Unix?
What's the function of Javahost service? Do I need to run JavaHost where my presentation service is running or on Unix server where BI server is running?Javahost runs the corda popchart engine. So if you want charts, you'll better start it.

Not sure what to do. I've tried a system restore on my computer after the update in hopes of undoing the problem, that didn't work. I've tried to install, the new version of itunes for over two days now and I get to the point where it says "starting services" and it almost get's done and then it gives me that message " Service apple mobile device (apple mobile device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privledges to start system services." Then it gives me three options to click on "abort", "retry" or "ignore". I've tried to retry over and over and it does no good, I just get the same message. I've tried ignore and the one time it did finish installing itunes, it didn't work, I got error messages telling me that it failed to download properly and I needed to delete the program and download it again. I thought maybe it had something to do with my ipod not being pluged into the computer so I pluged that it and it's still giving me the same message. I just don't know what to do. I'm very frustrated and I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. I'm completely out of ideas.

i have got the answer for this question, i updated the registry with the correct file path, and then closed the registry, the services.msc file is automatically updated with the correct path
and then started the CSService, then went to the OEM setup i clicked Retry buton, then it went through.

i am trying to install Oracle Enterprise manager grid control,
i am getting the following error message
"error in starting the service Oracle CSService not found"
when i checked in the "services.msc" the Oracle CSService is not started, so i tried to start the service, but its not starting and giving the error message as "error 3 system cannot find the path specified"
then i checked in the service properties, and the path is pointing to a different directory,
now i want to change this path to the correct oracle bin directory.
any views how to cnage/update this path in the services.msc, for "Oracle CSService"

I have faced this before. When you change the NQSconfig file to add a new RPD created by you and change the INSTANCECONFIG.XML file with the services in started state you get this error. To rectify the issue please stop the BI SERVER and presentation server and JAVA host services. Then chnage the NQSCONFIG.INI file and INSTANCECONFIG.XML file. Then you start the services it will start without an error. -
Unable to get SQL Server 2008 R2 to start SBSMONITORING service

ON my PC, I attempted to download the update to itunes. It gave me an error message that I wasn't able to do that (and I don't recall the exact words) but telling me to delete the old itunes and download the new update, so I did. But now when I try to update the new itunes, I keep getting this message: Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services! Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

I have deleted everything itunes/apple on the laptop, i am the administrator and created another account on my computer that was administrator and i have ran the fix it tool, and have reinstalled apple itunes and still get the messages. i have deleted all virus protectors, took my firewall down. and still same errors. i just got an iphone 4 with no music and I cannot afford to pay for my music when i can just put it on there.

Yes another user with problem with Apple Mobile Device Support, I am getting the error message: Service 'Apple Mobile Device'(Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Vertify that you have sufficient privileges to start system service....I hit retry and it came up again. I hit ignore and it prompted me to hit finish so Itunes can open. I looked thru alot of these posts on here to try and resolve this problem myself but it's not working too well...I downloaded Itunes to my desktop so I can right click it with the program i downloaded called WinRAR. I extracted it and then went into the folder called Itunes64setup. I saw the file called AppleMobileDeviceSupport64 in there so I began to try and download it on it's own. Well that didn't work as I planned and got this error message:
Apple Mobile Device Support wasn't installed on your computer. The installer encountered errors before Apple Mobile Device Support could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time,please run the installer again.

Hello All,
I am having a problem when downloading ITunes on my Dell Inspiron 6400, an error message appears which says Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start systems services. I have uninstalled ITunes and downloaded software to clean the regitry. This did not work, I even went into my local Apple store in Manchester, they downloaded ITunes onto a CD but it still does not work.
I am going on holiday on Wednesday and would like to have my songs on my Iphone before then.
