Re: suggested edit to hint: Tip - Date and Time in the Menu Bar

Hi Josh
Funnily enough I had to set up a new machine for my daughter a month ago, and used precisely this (GUI) method.
I haven't tried it in Tiger, but am assured by several people it also works there. I believe some people were able to do something similar with 10.3, at least with later versions, but I and many others (on another forum) could not get it to stick.
That led to us investigating which preference files were involved, and the discovery that two were involved: hence the need for the killall SystemUIServer. The Terminal method turned out to be the only reliable method for early versions of 10.3.
Things have moved on, and while the Tip still works I do not think it warrants being a "Featured Tip", at least in the Tiger and Leopard forums. So maybe your new version should appear there.

Yes, I did it originally in Tiger.

OK, so I guess we should put it in the 10.3 forum-or maybe not-I think people who use 10.3 and would be on the forums would either be people supporting, who probably already know how to do this-or how to find out, or users who don't really want to mess with Terminal--but we should probably remove it from the Leopard and Tiger forums.

Sounds good!

  • Suggested edit to hint: Tip - Date and Time in the Menu Bar

    The user tip, located here, massively overcomplicates the procedure for showing the date and time in the menu bar.
    The simpler way is to do:
    1. Click >System Preferences...>International>Formats.
    2. Next to "Dates", click the "Customize" button.
    3. Arrange the date the way you want it to appear in the menu bar (don't worry about time at this point).
    4. Select everything in the date format box and copy it (⌘C).
    5. Next to "Times", click the "Customize" button.
    6. Select the "Medium" format.
    7. Paste the time format into the box (⌘V), and customize it to appear as you wish.
    8. Click OK.
    That's it. No Terminal, nothing complicated.

    Any chance you figured out how to do this for Snow Leopard?
    I did this before, and when i migrated i could see that the change i made in Tiger, carried over, (that is there was a date in my medium clock setting) but it doesn't show in the clock in my menu bar...
    Is there a fix?
    Maybe Lion will bring this back... or better still offer the ability to put what we want with less complication?

  • I have checked the box "display date and time on the Menu Bar" and it does not work.  Using OS X Yosemite 10.10.2  Anybody have a fix?

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
    Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
    The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Date and time missing in menu bar

    From time to time the date and time disappear from the menu bar.  Other times most of the items disappear from the menu bar.  What causes this?  Yes, a reboot puts them back but a reboot should not be necessary.  Any thoughts?

    Might be corrupted preferences ...
    Type or copy and paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
    Click Go then move the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
    Then monitor the time and date in the menu bar.

    Set the calendar to "Gregorian". You have it set to Buddhist.

  • HT5252 I tried to change my metadata date and got this   Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file "01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg" because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.

    I tried to change the metadata date.  It changed the date on my photo, but when I checked the box that said "also change my original file", it gave me this error message.
    Unable to change original file.  Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the original file “01769_p_h13ajyrm4bm0944.jpg” because it is locked or you do not have permission to modify it.
    Wassup?

    What is your Aperture version? The older versions of Aperture 3 had a problem to apply Metadata changes to the original file.
    If you are using the current version Aperture 3.4.5, try to repair the permissions on your Aperture library, if you have not already done so:
    Launch Aperture with the key combination ⌥⌘ held down and select "Repair Permissions" from the First Aid PAnel, that will appear.
    If that does not help, post back with more information on your original files - are the referenced or managed? Where is your Aperture library located? Since when do you have this problem? And what did you do directly before noticed the problem for the first time?

    Léonie

    How do I add the capture date and time to the bottom corner of a photo?

    Not to the bottom, that I'm aware of, but to the top right or left in Grid view or to the top left in Loupe view. It is in the View Options.

  • TO_DATE - How do I pass the date and time to the function

    Hi,
    I am writing a PL/SQL code. The code has a simple cursor,
    For the criteria, I am using a column called 'created' which is a date column, and the to_date function.
    I would like to pass the date and time to the to_date fuction as a parameter, date_value, as shown below.
    CURSOR opty is
    select a.name, a.id
    from s_opty a
    where a.created > to_date(date_value, 'DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS');
    I've tried declaring a bind variable,
    date_value date := '&1'
    but no joy.
    Any ideas would be welcomed.
    Thanks in antcipation
    Mukesh

    Can this help you?
    SQL> create or replace procedure sample_proc
      2  as
      3  cursor c1(v_value varchar2) is
      4          select 'YES' from dual
      5            where trunc(sysdate) = trunc(to_date(v_value, 'DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS'));
      6  v_char varchar2(10);
      7  begin
      8     open c1('08/03/2006 11:35:20');
      9     fetch C1 into v_char;
    10     dbms_output.put_line('Is it today''s date?> '||v_char);
    11     close c1;
    12  end;
    13  /
    Procedure created.
    SQL> begin
      2    sample_proc;
      3  end;
      4  /
    Is it today's date?> YES
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> If you are not very particular about the time, you can use TRUNC on both sides like :
    where trunc(a.created) > trunc(to_date(date_value, 'DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS'));Cheers

  • Approval Date and Time of the Timecard

    Hi,
    In one of the reports, we require to show the date and time when the timecard is approved. Where can I find this information.
    Thanks,
    Ramprasad.

    Try the HXT_TIMECARD_BUILDING_BLOCKS (or similar name, I may have got the name slightly wrong). This is the main table for holding the data which makes up the timecard. I think approval info is in there somewhere. This table has the concept of 'scope' and there are many records of different scopes (timecard, period, date, day etc.). Each has an approval field because part of the timecard may be approved and part may not. Also, there are a couple of summary tables which hold details at timecard and application period (applications using the data and the period of the timecard) which you may want to use.
    If that doesn't help, use eTRM and see the relationships of the tables and you'll find what you are looking for.

    Tim

  • DataMart Interface - Date and time of the transferred data

    Hello,
    We have a requirement to build a datamart (cube to cube) between two BW systems, using deltas; this is OK and should not present any issue. However a further requirement has arisen, requiring to provide date and time of the created files to outbound systems. I have been looking to RS* and RO* tables for finding out the details of the delta queue.
    Table RSDMDELTA provides the Data Mart Delta Management: could this table be used to provide required details? Or are there any other relevant tables containing this info?
    Thanks&Regards,
    Begonia

    Hi,
    Thanks for your quick response. We are not using openhubs, but a direct cube to cube datamart - by generating the cube as exporting datasource.
    Is there any equivalent table in this case?
    Thanks&Regards,
    Begonia

  • How to get Date and time of the server?

    Hi, How can we get the date and time of the server while submitting a form using JSP? i.e I need the date and time , when the user is submittig a registration.
    Uma

    Upon receiving your data in your servlet, you can do the following to get the date,
    Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
    int dd = calendar.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH);
    int mm = calendar.get(Calendar.MONTH) + 1;
    int yyyy = calendar.get(Calendar.YEAR);
    String dd_mm_yyyy = dd + "/" + mm + "/" + yyyy;
    To get the time, simply take a look at the Calendar API to get the corresponding field.

    I am using Mavericks. In Mail I had a list of VIPS and used it extensively. Now it has disappeared and VIPs on the menu bar is faded. There is nil response to VIP in help. Can you tell me what has happened?

    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/VIPSenders.plist
    Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Show Info in Finder (or just Show Info)
    from the contextual menu.* An Info dialog should open.
    Does the dialog show "You can read and write" in the Sharing & Permissions section?
    In the General section, is the box labeled Locked checked?
    What is the Modified date?
    If you don't have read and write access to the item, change the settings as directed here. Note, however, that if one file has wrong access settings, most likely others do as well. If the item is locked, unlock it.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
