Re sync from mac to pc without erasing library

shuffle 2nd generation originally synced to a mac, want to sync to windows, how do I do this without losing all the songs currently on it? No longer have access to the mac.

The iPod shuffle 2nd generation is only designed for use with one library and lacks the full manual setting that the larger iPods have to safely connect to a different one. However, if you don't have the songs from the shuffle on your new PC you can copy the songs from it if you are careful and once the library is recreated it will be safe to sync.
Retrieving songs from a shuffle is a bit different from retrieving songs from a regular iPod. When you connect to your computer you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, your reaction of course is to press "Cancel". As soon as you connect a shuffle and choose "Cancel" when you get the "linked to different library" message the iPod will disconnect. For a shuffle follow this process:
1). On your Windows desktop go to Edit>New folder and add a folder to receive the songs from your shuffle.
2). Download SharePod from this link: SharePod
3). Connect your shuffle to your computer. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. Your iPod will connect but iTunes won't open, the hardware icon should appear in your Windows system tray.
4). Open Sharepod, it should have picked up the presence of your iPod and show all the songs on it.
5). Highlight all your songs in the program window (click on the first song in the list and hold down the shift key, click on the last song and all the songs in between will be selected).
6). Click Copy to PC (the icon is in the top left corner) and choose the folder you created on the desktop or simply drag the songs from SharePod to the folder: SharePod - Copying tracks to your PC
7). When all the songs have transferred close SharePod
8). Disconnect your iPod by right clicking on the hardware icon in your system tray: Safely Disconnect IPod
9). Check the desktop folder and make sure all your songs are there.
10) Open iTunes and go to File>Add Folder to Library, navigate to the folder on your desktop and add the songs.
11). Connect your iPod. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc. Choose "Erase and Sync", iTunes will reload your shuffle with the songs you recovered and link the iPod to this new library

  • How to reinstall mac os x without erase boot camp?

Situation:Today, i was using mac os x this morning, it worked fine. then when i went home from work, start up the macbook pro, it took like 4-5 minutes to start the login, then take 30-45 secs, then the desktop starting to freeze!
Notes: I have Boot Camp on it.
Question: Can i reinstall mac os x without erasing the boot camp patition?
    Thank you to reply!

Yes, if you think it's necessary you can hold c and boot off the installer OS X disk for your 10.6 and simply reinstall OS X and bundled programs right over the previous ones without it touching your files or other programs.
However, you should take ANY opportunity to transfer your files off the computer (manually, not via TimeMachine) just in case there is a bigger issue afoot, like a failing hard drive.
You might also want to take a look at the free OnyX, run all the maintainence and cleaning aspects and reboot.
Covers a ton of bases in one place.

Syncing shouldn't trouch you photos unless you have photos in a Photo Library album.  These would be photos that were synced to your phone from your computer.  If you do have any, you'll need to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your computer prior to syncing.
If you prefer to backup your camera roll photos prior to syncing, open iTunes and go to Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Then connect your phone to your computer and import them as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then, to minimize data loss, follow the steps in this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.  To follow the steps, first open iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar.  Also, Transfer Purchases is now located in File>Devices.

  • A friend of mine put music on my ipod from her itunes account. now i cant put my music up there from my itunes account without erasing the other songs. how can i fix this ?

A friend of mine put music on my ipod from her itunes account. Now i can't put my music up there from my itunes account without erasing the other songs. How can i fix this?

"A friend of mine put music on my ipod from her itunes account. "
This is not legal.  You have no legal right to that music.
" Now i can't put my music up there from my itunes account without erasing the other songs. "
    That is correct.
    How can i fix this?
There is nothing to fix.  The ipod is designed to stop you from being able to steal music as you are doing.
Erase the music you got illegally and sync your own music to your own ipod.

  • Address book and calendar sync from Mac to Google

    Hi,
I have a HTC Desire phone and wish to sync my Contacts and Calendar items to it via Google.
I have pulled my Address Book and Calendar from my old p1i phone on to my old Power Book and exported these. I have then imported these onto my Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard.
I now want to sync these up to a Google account.
In my address I have ny contacts and also my girlfriend's. I wish to sync only my Contacts up to Google. Is this possible?
I have tried configuring iCal to sync with Google via calDAV but I am not seeing my Calendar entries in Google (or a way of doing a manual sync from Mac -> Google)
Apologies if these questions have been asked and answered previuosly.

  • How to transfer files from mac to ipad without using itunes

how to transfer files from mac to ipad without using itunes ???
as i want to use my ipad for official use as well...please suggest..

well to be 100% technical, no you didn't but that aside, it good to know there are ways for people to transfer music into the default apps without iTunes, if they have a need.
I tend to use 3rd party apps for documents, like your mentioned iExplorer etc, which are handy.
I see from a search the two "apps" you mentioned are not iOS apps, which I had assumed, SyncPod and FreeSync are apps for your computer, that would explain their access to the default Music/Video apps.
I had wondered how Apple had allowed iOS apps in the store that could get around the sandboxing in iOS of apps.

  • Sync iphone with new macbook without erasing info - don´t have backup

    Hello everybody,
although I have googeled and searched in this forum I couldn´t quite find the exact answer to my problem:
Unfortunately, a few weeks ago my Windows PC went kaput. Fortunately, I bought a new Macbook Pro which is awesome.
Buuut I cannot find a possibility to sync my iphone 3gs with my new mac without losing all the information on it. I do not have a backup for the iphone on an external hard disk.
    What can I do??
Thanks in advance for you help!
    Mike

Without a backup for your iTunes library that was on your PC and for any photos on your iPhone that were transferred from your PC, transferring any iTunes content and photos from your new Mac or from any new computer will erase all iTunes content and photos from your iPhone that were transferred from your old PC. Not all information on your iPhone will be erased when doing so, just iTunes content and photos that were transferred from your PC.
Just one reason why including your iTunes library with your computer's backup along with all other important data is a good idea.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod, iPad, or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your Mac with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
Before syncing contacts with the Address Book and calendar events with iCal on your Mac, enter one contact in the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal on your Mac. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.

  • Can't transfer files from iTunes to iPhone without erasing song library

I purchased some music from itunes on my computer at work(which is authorized on my account). I connected my iPhone to transfer (sync) the music to my iphone, but iTunes warns me that all music on my iphone will be erased. The music on my iPhone is currently sync'd with my home computer. My question is: How do I transfer music to my iPhone from two different authorized computers without erasing the content on the phone?

You can't sync music from two computers to the one iPhone.
You need to copy the files onto something like a USB stick and take them home and add them to your iTunes library at home.

  • Adding to ipod from alternative iTunes catalogue without erasing existing

Is it possible to add music to ipod without erasing existing content that was synced from another PC.
So far i have been alerted that if i sync any new material from my list it will automatically erase what my daughter already has on her ipod.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are connected you can change to manual as above: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Upgrade to 10.6 server from 10.5.8 without erasing any Existing Settings?

    Hi,
    Please Help,
How do I upgrade my MAC Leopard 10.5.8 Server to MAC Snow Leopard 10.6 Server without erasing (deleting) any server settings (running services) and without erasing my existing workgroup manager (workgroup accounts).
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Gulab Pasha

    Hi,
I have basically the same question, and wondered if anyone has any more details. I want to upgrade from 10.5.8 Server to 10.6.2 Server, but want to be sure that things won't break when I do!
I have lots of OD user accounts, blogs and wikis for groups and users, and users have done quite a lot of podcast recording. For PCP we're using quite a number of custom workflows, and at the moment users are doing dozens of recordings every week.
So before I go ahead and do anything too destructive, has anybody upgraded a similar setup? Do accounts, blogs, and the ability to podcast remain intact?
I back things up with Carbon Copy Cloner, so could potentially restore it all but I'd rather not have to (or at least wait until I have the luxury of a bit more time!)
    thanks,
    bob.
