Re: Tecra A11 - Cannot update latest BIOS

I'm reinstalling my operating system and would like update the whole laptop, but I cannot update my BIOS. I downloaded the latest release (B2.90-WIN-EC1.90) but it keeps telling me that this computer is not supported. What can I do?
I used the notebook detection tool on the website and 'm currently using Windows 7 Pro x86 with BIOS v2.30.
Toshiba Tecra A11-11J (PTSE1E-00E00EDU)

Thread can be closed, I solved the problem by installing the Value Added Package. Which enabled the BIOS setup to execute.

  • OMG Cannot download latest BIOS HELP

Help! As usually I went to check if new BIOS is avail because I've been yearning one for quite long now, and looking at the beta bios thread quite a lot of stufff fixed and added since BIOS v2.10 so it's about time for v2.11.
MB in question is MSI Z77A-G43.
All the download locations are down, getting error404... How can this be possible??
    http://msi.com/service/download/bios-21813.html
None of the DL locations work..?? What's the point with the mirrors?
Where can I download this official v2.11 bios?

Flashing today isn't risky, as risky as it was 10 years ago. If one knows what one doing, then there is no risk.
I yearned for the update because there was a lot fixes and changes added after v.2.10.
And I'm looking to do some RAM OC, so I need the latest bios.
Plus, v.2.11 has latest ME - that is not in v.2.10.
Thanks Yogi, those links did indeed work now (I wonder did they just forgot to upload the BIOS'es or what, I'v read other board BIOS'es weren't uploaded either, thus offered in ?div=BIOS ???)

  • Tecra S1 - whats the latest bios?

Hi, I wonder if someone can point me towards the latest S1 bios. The reason I ask is that I have a bios loaded, which is the 30/03/2005 ver 2.50 but when I try and get the latest from the Tosiba site dated 09/07/07 it just downloads the same old bios? Is there a later one or not?
    Many Thanks, Theo

    Hi
You have only to check the Toshiba page for latest BIOS version and as Paolo30 already wrote it seems to be 2.50.
I cant imagine that Toshiba will release a new BIOS for this pretty old notebook.
But note buddy: This update should only be done if you have problems with your computer because the update is a little bit risky. You could damage the ROM module.
If you update, close all running programs and make sure that you are logged in as administrator.

  • Tecra A11 - Cannot get the FN buttons to work on Win 7

I had to do a new install of Windows 7 on my Tecra A11.
Everything works fine but, I am finding that I really really miss the ability to turn the trackpad on and off and turn the wireless on and off.
I'm guessing that the only way to do this would be to reinstall that program that connects the FN key to the numbered Function Keys.
I don't know what to call it so I don't know what to search for. I do want to be careful and not install more than I need.
Is there a program or way I can get this function reinstalled?
    Thanks,
    Susan
p.s. On this fine forum, I found how to turn the track pad off when a mouse is installed but if I don't have a mouse attached and this is turned off, I'm kind of in a mess :)

    Hi
The FN buttons are controlled by VAP (value added package) and the Flash Card Support Utility.
Install the VAP firstly and check if the FN buttons would work. If this is will not work then you should try also the Flash Card Support Utility to get this FN buttons working.
The Flash Card Support can be found in Satellite L500 or other later series

  • Re: Tecra M11 cannot access the BIOS

I have a brand new Tacra M11-11L machine. I have set a password on the BIOS but cannot now access it at all. When I switch it on I get the Toshiba splash screen, i press the escape key and am presented with a little note saying "F2 for Setup". I press F2 and the screen goes blank, i get a underling cursor flash three times at the top of the screen and then it boots into windows. I need to change a setting that is not covered by HWSetup. I can get into HWSetup with my password but it is not use to me!

    Hi
Try firstly *INS* button and then *F2* button
    In my case this worked!

  • I cannot update the BIOS or even reinstall the current BIOS.

Every available version of the BIOS for my Pavilion dv9612ca claims that it is 'not for this model'
I am trying to resolve an issue where the OS ( Vista 32 bit ) no longer detects the CD/DVD drive. It does show in the BOOT Configuration when I go into SETUP for the BIOS.

Thanks, I tried the REGEDIT first, and rebooted a couple of times to no avail. I then did a full restart and ran tried the FIXIT script. I completed with a failure, saying that it could not detect a CD/ROM device. I took this to mean it failed, but when I rebooted it later DEVICE MANAGER now shows the DVD/RW finally.
I don't understand why it took so many reboots, but something seems to have fixed the detection of the device.

  • Cannot update BIOS anymore

Hello, i cannot update my BIOS anymore and i need some help, here is what happened: i bought this laptop somewhere in 2011 and i bought Windows 7 (i accidentaly got 32bit instade of 64bit because i forgot that in this laptop is 64bit cpu) and near the end of 2011 or at begining of 2012 i installed BIOS update from HP support assistant, and in 2013 (i think) i got notification from HP support assistant about new BIOS update and i tried to update it but i couldnt run setup because my 300GB local disk C and 2GB HP_tools F disks were both totaly full so i gave up but now in 2015 i remembered about that update and i cleaned my disks and opened HP support assistant and checked for updates but it dosent give me option to update my BIOS anymore, please help.
If you need my computer specs let me know.
    Sorry for my bad English.
    Please reply.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    You're welcome.
There are several bios versions listed between your current one and the update I linked to, however most of these just add support for newer models - HP bios updates are cumulative, so any fixes/enhancements etc in previous versions will be applied by installing the latest.
However, I don't believe the update will give you the option of disabling (ie Fixed Mode) the Intel gpu - in fact, the only real benefit of upgrading to this bios version is if you're considering running Windows 8 as it adds support for Windows 8 'wireless button' control.
On balance and if everything is working Ok at the moment, you may well be best advised not to upgrade ( unless you're considering Windows 8 ) - if you do decide to update, flashing back to your current version from a much later revision may not be possible ( this can be blocked if there's a known issue with reverting ).
At the end of the day, flashing the bios always carries a small risk.
    Best regards,
    DP-K

  • Tecra A11 - LED backlight issue

I have big pain in my eyes after day of work with Tecra A11 BIOS V1.7 = newest BIOS update. Wenn I bought it there was BIOS 1.4 the same problem with eyes, LED backlight killing my eyes, big pain after day of work. V1.5 and 1.6 are much better (no pain) but new BIOS 1.7 is the same eye-killer as 1.4.
Who is going to help me? Users of this forum?
I want Toshiba people to help me, they sell 1/2 ready product, absolutely bad work! No contacts to Toshiba just this user forum. Is Toshiba interested in my problem with his bad Tecra A11 notebook and stupid BIOS updates? I am really angry, never had such problems with so expensive notebook. So excuse my emoutions I start to hate Toshiba for the extremly bad experience with this Tecra A11. Why should some users of this forum help me? I paid a lot of money to Toshiba, so I want Toshiba people to tell me what they do in their BIOS updates, what stupidity kill my eyes with LCD backlight. How many BIOS updates will be needed to make Tecra A11 working properly for 800 EUR? I will never more buy something from Toshiba.

    Thanks Xardas,
One week and we have BIOS Update 1.9 !! = aproximately one update a week. On one side very nice to see that Toshiba takes care of the problems. On other hand why are so many updates needed? Was this Tecra A11 is sold as final product with 1/2 unfunctional BIOS? Wenn I bougt it I had BIOS 1.4 and I tell you there were mistakes even when you went through the menu, so if someone tested it in Toshiba he could see it. So I have really feeling that Toshiba didnot test BIOS properly. That is maybe why they need to update BIOS so oft. They use users as testers, what is for some rare problems OK, but not for common bugs!
Why does not Toshiba describe what exactly is updated in new BIOS version? Where can I find this information, e.g. what is changed between BIOS 1.6 and 1.7 and so on.? I need this information because I really do not know what is going to happen if I update to 1.9 now. I do not want to spend another day with playing with bios, and in worst case to kill my eyes with bug in LED Backlight. So where can I find what is new in BIOS 1.9 ?
My LED Backlighting problem is in BIOS 1.4 and 1.7. You cannot see that something is happening, but after day of work (8 hours) I cannot look at Tecra A11 monitor any more, because of pain iu my eyes. I thing this happens because LEDs in Backlight are too strong and maybe Toshiba uses some kind of pulse modulation to control LED brightnes. So you see brightnees is low (no strong), but in reality maybe you get a strong flasshing LED light into your eyes whitout brain sense for it. So you see normal backlight, but mayby you become very short time strong impulses of LED full intensity into your eyes what you do not notice, only as pain after many hours. This is my explanaition but I didnot measured it. Toshiba sold notebook with Bios 1.4 and immediately updated to 1.5 where this problem was solved. Thats why I was thinking that they know about this problem and they just solved it for ever. But in V1.7 problem ware back, and my eyes took 2 days to recover from pain. So it is really angry bug and I do not know if to stay by Bios 1.6 or to try update to 1.9. I want Toshiba to describe what is going on in BIOS updates.
Maybe this is problem of only my notebook so I will try to contact authoorized service provider, but I would be really positively suprised if they know what to do with it. We will see. But please if you know, answer me where is information what is new in BIOS Updates from Toshiba. Thanks

  • Tecra A11 - Video/Latest BIOS issues

    Hello All,
I just received a Toshiba Tecra A11 the other day which is out of warranty (Refurb). When I got the laptop there was an issue where the picture was displayed at 1024x768 and off centre (In BIOS). The image was 1-2cm off screen to the left, with about 5-6cm black space to the right of the picture, the bottom 2-3 cm's of the picture were also off the bottom of the screen.
I installed Ubuntu Studio initially and attempted to force the display to a widescreen resolution. I didn't have any luck, I also installed Win7 but still with the latest drivers I had no luck.
This was strange because BIOS was displayed the same way so naturally I decided to upgrade to the latest BIOS version. The BIOS on the laptop was quite old (End of 2009).
I downloaded the BIOS update from Toshiba's web site, and ran the update.
The new BIOS was installed and the machine rebooted.
However there was no picture displayed on the LCD panel, windows did successfully boot, if I connect an external monitor to the laptop I get picture. When starting the laptop the LCD backlight does light up.
My question is: What can I do to resolve this issue? Is there a BIOS recovery or downgrade tool available? Is it possible to reflash the bios? What is recommended?
    Thanks.

    > The new BIOS was installed and the machine rebooted.
    > However there was no picture displayed on the LCD panel, windows did successfully boot, if I connect an external monitor to the laptop I get picture. When starting the laptop the LCD backlight does light up.
Does this mean that everything is ok using external monitor?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 and can you set it to default settings?
Usually you can switch between external and internal display using the key combination FN + F5. Does it work?

  • Tecra A11-1EG - cannot access BIOS after setting supervisor password

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help ?
We have just started to put a supervisor password onto our Tecra A11 laptops so our pupils cannot set passwords on the hard drive etc.
To get into the BIOS and set a BIOS password, we press F2 as the machine starts.
We then go into the security option, then supervisor password.
Having entered the password we want to use twice, we press F10 to save etc.
The machine starts ok and goes in to windows without a hitch.
The problem we have now is that we cannot get back into the bios at all.
As the machine starts we press the F2 key as before but unlike previously the screen just remains blank and the 'Toshiba leading Innovation >>>' screen no longer appears.
If we keep our finger on the F" key or keep pressing it the laptop just restarts without ever getting to the BIOS screen where I assume we will get asked for the supervisor password we set earlier?
Is there another key we should be pressing as the laptop starts ?
I should add we have added a supervisor password for the BIOS security screen on three of our laptops and all three have the same issue.
    Thanks
    Steve

I think this should be useful for you:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0B032D0000R01.htm
In some cases you need to press the "INS" key while Toshiba logo appears.
Then a prompt for the Supervisor Password would appear and if the password is certified then the BIOS could be entered by pressing the "F2" key.

  • Tecra A11 - Bios Update offered - necessary?

Hi - I've just been offered a BIOS Update for my Tecra A11-17N (Via Toshiba Service Station) - BIOS Update v3.10....
Clicking on the update doesn't offer any details as to what it contains/fixes/improves - it just says basically "install, and computer will re-boot a few times".
My Tecra is running perfectly - no issues at all. Should I ignore this?

    Hello
    > My Tecra is running perfectly - no issues at all. Should I ignore this?
Youre right. In this case you can ignore this update because everything works perfectly.
BIOS update is always a little bit risky so it shouldnt be done just for fun. It should only be done if its really necessary and in your case you dont need it.
So have fun with your Tecra A11 and you can forget the update :)

  • Re: Cannot update BIOS from 1.5 to 1.6 on Tecra T 9100

I have problems with updating the BIOS of my Tecra 9100. The current version is 1.5, and I want to update it to 1.6, so that the UJ-820 DVD-RAM will work.
I have tried to do with the windows tool within the Zip-File (error message: User does not have administrator privileges), and with bootdisk (error message: unknown chipset).
    What can I do next?

    Hi
First of all the BIOS update will not help you to solve the CD/DVD drive IDE #1 issue.
Secondly I assume you are using the Win XP and if you want to update the BIOS you have to do this from running Win XP!
Furthermore I read in different threads that the Common Modules must be installed in order to start the BIOS update procedure.
PS: Check if you could start the BIOS exe file using right click and choosing Run as
Then you could choose the Admin account.

  • Cannot Update BIOS on Tecra M7

    Hello,
I'm trying to update my BIOS to get my Tecra M7 to recognize Intel's virtualization extensions.  I downloaded version 3.50 of both the update for "Tecra M7" and "Tecra M7-7311," and neither work.  Both tell me that my computer isn't supported, both when upgrading within Windows and when updating using a boot CD.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to make this work?
    Thx.

So far as I know, only a very few of Toshiba's computers have a BIOS that supports hardware virtualization. You probably need to call their customer support in your country to find out which ones.
What is the part number of your Tecra M7? It looks something like PTM71E-00M00GEN or PTM71C-GH10TE or PTM71A-006005.

I want to update the BIOS of my A9 Tecra from 1.70 to 2.10 for (Windows XP SP 2).
When I start the update (P0054v210.exe), I get the error message: "[Error] The starting of service was aborted. The user does not have administator privilieges".

I started the update as the local Administrator but it doesn't work.
    Can someone help?

Ive heard that the common modules are very important, so I would reinstall the common modules and try the BIOS update again.
Are you sure your Antivirus is not blocking the BIOS update? Disable it and see how that goes.
