Re: Tecra M11 - Cursor jumps to random locaation when typing

Does anyone know how to switch off the trackpad when using a mouse, or advise on what the problem is - when I am merrily typing away, and I'm fairly fast, I suddenly find I am typing in the middle of what I typed already, instead of at the end of the line as normal. I cannot work out whether this is interference from the trackpad, or I am hitting something else in error! I tried switching off the trackpad using Fn F9 but it doesn't seem to work.... is there another way to disable it?
Cheers all!
Amoeba

What is probably happening is your palm is touching the TouchPad while you are typing.
To avoid this problem, you can turn off the Touchpad completely, or simply turn off "Tapping" in the Advanced Touchpad Settings.

  • Cursor jumps to random positions when I click in APSE8

Hello there, I've been using PS for quite some time and I have decent experience with it. However, recently I've encounted this certain bug in the program frequently and now I'm here in the forums to seek for a solution.
I use Adobe Photoshop Elements Version 8.0, and I use Windows 7.
The problem: Whenever I use the brush/pencil tool on the canvas, everytime I click to use the tool, sometimes the cursor seems to 'jump' out of position and I end up unintentionally putting paint on the wrong part of the canvas. And before I release the click, I try to move the mouse around in random directions to no avail; the mouse doesn't respond until I release the mouse. In another similar case, sometimes for a split second the cursor seems to move on its own and it leaves behind a random trail of color. Example: Let's say I wrote down my name 'Andrew' on the canvas. I end up something similar to 'Anc e.", along with a black dot/calligraphic stroke or two unintentionally placed when writing down my name. I had to undo and click several times until I properly got the tool working. I'm working on a certain project in PS and this bug is greatly hindering my progress and any solution or further explanation would be much appreciated.
I'm guessing a part of my bare hand is just barely in physical contact with the touchpad?

I would try another mouse.  If you have a cordless mouse there have been problems with random acts in PS before, although that was last year.
If you have other questions about Photoshop Elements they have their own fourm at http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements.   This is the Photoshop Forum.

When I say enter-query and put 'IAS' in the s_type field and then do a execute query it brings all the records of 'IAS'.
Now as I want to update the records, and when I navigate across field(s_type,cer_dl,Seq,xyz) using tab and move the cursor down on second
record(IAS N 2 N), what happens is when I navigate to sequence field the cursor jumps to LAST RECORD( IAS Y 3 N ) of LAST field XYZ.
I am putting the sample record
    s_type cer_dl seq xyz
    IAS N 1 N
    IAS N 2 N
    IAS N 3 N
    IAS N 4 N
    IAS Y 1 N
    IAS Y 2 N
    IAS Y 3 N
The cursor moves to last record --IAS -Y -3-N when I tab across the second When I say enter-query and put 'IAS' in the s_type field...For your validation to work you must not allow users to enter records in the middle of a block, clear records from the block or query specific records. If you allow the users to enter a query then you are allowing 2 of the rules to be broken.

  • The Cursor Jumps Here and There While Typing

When I type something on text-processing applications (Text Editor, Sticky, Word 2004 for Mac, even compose email field on web-based emails), my cursor keeps moving randomly to the previous part of the body text. I keep on typing until I realize it messes up what I've been typing. I can't keep typing and checking the result all the time.
It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens often enough. It's kinda very frustrating.
    Any idea why this happens?
    Thanks!

I am unable to control my iPad 2. When typing and deleting it generates random letters! Any advice

Start with this and see how it goes. Quit all apps completely and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Random Caps when Typing

New Mac Pro (Built in early 2008) & keyboard with OS 10.5.6
When typing in applications (Mail, Word), will get a random capitalization of a letter every 3 or 4 sentences.
A solitary letter (varies) in the middle of a word is the most common.
Have checked & re-checked but cannot find a cause.
Cannot find a way to reproduce this. Did not happen while typing this note.
Where should I look for a solution?
    Many thanks!

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 - Cursor randomly selects when typing.

Hello!  Infinitely frustrating as I am writing my thesis - but as I'm typing my cursor will randomly select without me clicking anything.  At first I thought it was my thumbs hitting the touch pad but I disable the "tap" function and am still having the issue.
Anyone else?  Anyone know how to fix it?  Thanks!
    Windows 7 64-bit.

I joined just to comment on this. I bought this computer (the Pavilion dv6) in June or July of 2011. I have been having the exact same problem ever since, and I don't know how to fix it. Like the OP said, it's not harmful, but just super annoying. Any ideas?

  • Why is text jumping down a line when typing?

If there is 2 or more rows of text and I move back my cursor to type more on a previous line... the cursor randomly jumps down a line or so and I start typing on an unintentional line? Any idea why this might be happening?
I'm using the wireless keyboard. Battery is almost fully charged so that can't be the issue.

After some testing... I think it's because the right side of my hand is over the arrow keys and it may be hitting those keys without me noticing. Pretty sure that's what is happening.

  • WHY do we get a %*# update every 2 weeks while the 1 really bad bug (fonts and sizes randomly changing when typing) persists????

Is there any way to STOP TB from sending updates every couple of weeks (and BTW this has slowed down/crashed TB increasingly in the past couple of months) UNTIL they fix this really irritating bug of randomly changing fonts and sizes when writing a mail? Outlook doesn't do this, Apple mail doesn't do this, so TB stop spamming and start addressing real problems for a change!!!!

It would be helpful perhaps to focus on "the real issue" of font size and compose, rather to digress into how vendors choose to deliver the product.
font issues arose in the past year. I forget exactly when. It is quite a bad problem. My recollection is it was a serializer change not done by Thunderbird developers, and that part of it was fixed in version 24. But I could be wrong.
Would you be willing to try version 31?

  • Cursor becomes intermittent/non-working when typing, etc

I've noticed that either when I'm typing or simply just using the mouse & leaning on the laptop case next to the trackpad, the cursor will either go intermittent or just plain stop working. As soon as the "weight" is removed from the laptop case, the mouse is fine. I've selected the option to disable the trackpad while using the mouse & it still happens. It just happened now when editing my message, but kept my left hand in place to type. The cursor just wouldn't move. I have a tendency of leaning my left elbow on the corner of the laptop case when I'm only clicking around with the mouse & I've never had this trouble before.
The trouble may have begun with the last update. I'm just curious if anyone else has had this problem & knows a solution that doesn't involving reinstalling anything. I am not a computer wiz by any means.

  • Iphone 3gS Cursor jumps around.

My Iphone 3gS cursor jumps around on occasion when typing texts or emails. The issue has persisted despite several resets and software upgrades. When the cursor jumps, it can either go to the next line or else into the "Sent from my Iphone" line. Any ideas on the cause and especially on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

I "catch" this ... I can only call it malware / miscellious software... occassionaly when browsing not always legit sites on the deep web.
Here's how I'm able to sucessfully clear that condition.
    Power down the notebook
Reset the SMC using the power adapter to verify the SMC reset.
Immediatly after resetting the SMC reset the PRAM several times 3 or 4 times.
Allow the Mac to boot normally.. No more issue.

  • Cursor Jumps on T61p Ultrapad

Just upgraded from a T43 to a T61p. Nice computer. The only problem, which could be a feature that I need to get used to is that when I move my finger on the ultrapad from the top to the bottom (or vice versa), the cursor jumps about two inches when my finger reaches the center point.  If this is a feature to assist with navigation, I have found it a challenge in that the ultrapad on the T61 is smaller than the one on my old T43. Is there a way to disable or adjust this?

I suggest reseating the touchpad connector under the palm rest, instrauctions on how to remove the palm rest can be found here.

  • Tecra M11 - Random Crashes with Windows 7

We have a Toshiba Tecra M11 running Windows 7 which has a problem in which it randomly crashes, forcing the user to hard reboot it. When it crashes, the fans spin up, not sure if this means anything. We've tried many things to fix it.
At first we thought it may be overheating, which would explain the fan, but the laptop got through a 24 hour stress test absolutely fine with normal temperatures. The laptop also isn't necesarrily doing anything stressful when it crashes We also tried reinstalling some of the main drivers and also intalled the newest (2.60) BIOS but still the same problem.
It crashes up to 2 times a day, but can also go some days without crashing. It's a very strange problem and we'd very much appreciate a fix for it.
    Thanks
    George

I just posted this answer on another thread. However, for me, the following worked. The laptop was locking up at least once a day with no clear cause since I bought it.
I've been trying for the last few weeks to get a fix for this. However, I've removed the fingerprint reading software and disabled the fingerprint reader in device manager. This appears to have finally fixed the issue (fingers crossed, one week no crash). I'd also removed Toshiba reeltime and eco utilities but had less success. The various BIOS updates have not helped.
All the latest drivers were installed. I also rebuilt the machine and could not get a crash from it with the factory build though I didn't setup the fingerprint software. USB connections also seemed to have a bearing on stability, though everything has been fine since the fingerprint reader was crippled.
    Hope that helps.
