Re: Toshiba & DVD Lightscribe media

*TOSHIBA & DVD LIGHTSCRIBE MEDIA*
I have heard that Toshiba have no introduced DVD Lightscribe software (to personalise blank cd/dvds) as OEM software. Is there any way i could get this on my Satelite P series without buying an external drive?

As far as I know for Lightscribe functionality you need special optical disc drives that support this option. It is not known to me that Toshiba ODDs support this, so Im afraid you need some external solution (external drive).

  • Burn to Lightscribe DVD+R media on External LaCie d2 DVD burner fails

Recently the Superdrive in my iMac G4 has failed where it would no longer burn DVD's reliably. I purchased a LaCie external firewire DVD burner and have been very impressed with its speed and overall compatibility.
I have created several DVDs from iDVD 5.0.1 (written to disk images) and then burned them to DVD-R media using "Disk Utility" with no problems. When I tried to burn them to LightScribe DVD+R media, the burn occurs with no errors and the DVD mounts and plays fine from the LaCie burner. However, trying to play the DVD from my original SuperDrive or in my home DVD players, does not work.
Is there some incompatibility I am unaware of? I believe I created one lightscribe DVD from Toast 7 where I was playing around with duplicating an existing DVD I had and it worked fine. I think the media I used in that case was one provided with the drive and I burned it from toast.
My lightscribe media is Verbatim LightScribe DVD+R media (30 pack). I don't want to consider these coasters. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

It identified write restrictions, but my goal was to write a playable DVD and it fails in both my SuperDrive and off-the-shelf DVD players.
Thanks for the idea, but I'm not sure that this is the issue in this case. Is there some basic compatibility issue with using DVD+R media as a playable DVD for most off-the-shelf players?

  • NEW Satellite A505 - Blu-ray won't play on WinDVD or Toshiba DVD player

I purchased a Satellite A505 (Windows 7) with a Blu-ray disc player that was pre-loaded with WinDVD, Toshiba DVD player, and one other player (?) - all this software was added 12/21/2009 (by the manufacturer). When I put in a Blu-ray disc WinDVD stops responding and I have to start the task manager to "end task." The Toshiba player says "media not supported." I used the recommended compatibility settings (Windows XP) and it says "incompatible application." I tried using a Sony Vaio w/ Blu-ray and had no problems with the same disc using WinDVD. I don't know what's wrong (and I'm not super tech savvy) - my settings, my drivers, my hardware... ???
I also downloaded the free trial of Corel's WinDVD 2010 and it wouldn't play on that either...
*Note - my model number is A505-S6012 but I can't find this as an existing model on any of the Toshiba sites. It was delivered to the store around 1/4/10, so it's brand new. The A505-S6990 has most of the same features though.

    jacuielaura,
I had the exact same issue with the Win DVD BD that was preloaded on my A505-S6014 when I purchased it. I myself also downloaded the Win DVD 2010 free trial and it did not work. Reason being is that they are only allowing people to trial the DVD version of Win DVD 2010 and not the Win DVD BD 2010. I also tried Cyberlink's PowerDVD and it worked but it digitized terribly. So I uninstalled both trials and went to support.toshiba.com and found what I needed to fix it.
I recommend you uninstall the original Win DVD BD version you have and any trial editions you downloaded and follow what I have listed below to fix your problem.
This is only a recommendation. Uninstall and install software at your own risk. If this fix doesn't work for you then you will have to call Toshiba and request a disc to reinstall your original software you uninstalled.
This is how I fixed mine:
Go to Support > Download > then choose your category (Laptop) then your Family (Satellite) then you're model #(A505-6012). Or you can just enter S6012 in the search box and it should bring up a list of all Laptop models with S6012 in them. Choose yours and click Go.
Now from the two drop down lists choose which Operating system: (Windows 7 64 bit) should be what you have, then choose Blu-Ray in the 2nd drop down list.
Download and SAVE these files to your desktop or My Downloads folder so you do not have to search for them again after you reboot.
You should now see this listed:
WinDVD BD for Toshiba for Windows 7 (32/64)(v8.0; 11-05-2009; 176.1M)
Also you will need to download the (Intel Management Engine Interface driver) which is listed in the drop down list under Utility (2nd page):
Intel Management Engine Interface for Windows XP/7 (32/64)(v6.0.0.1184; 10-08-2009; 6.39M)
Reboot after each installation even if it doesnt tell you to.
After both downloads have been installed and the OS is completely loaded again, insert a Blu-Ray disc and hopefully it should automatically play.
P.S. When playing Blu-Ray's I turn my power management to Performance. This may also help.
    Good luck!

  • TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2312 can't see blank DVD - HELP!

HI all - I have a TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2312. It reads and plays CDs and DVDs but I'm trying to burn a video onto  a DVD and when I place the blank DVD R into it to burn, I get a "Please insert media" message. The DVD-R that I'm putting in is brand new so there shouldn't be any problem there. It's driving me nuts!! It may well be that this is simply not a DVD burner - I may just be that stupid. If not, is there any way to fix this problem?

The SD-R2312 can read and write CDs, but it can only read DVDs.  It has no capability to write a DVD.

  • Burning Software vs. DVD-R media vs. DVD Players

Is it the Media, or the Messenger?
Am curious to see how my recent experience with burner/media/player compatibility stacks up to other people's:
I discovered (to my dismay) that a bunch of discs I'd created on both Maxell and Memorex DVD-R's (the Future Shop, 25-pc cake pack kind) would not play properly in two different Toshiba Players, yet played perfectly in a very low end Apex machine in the kids' playroom.
But what's got me more intrigued (and baffled) is the solution:
If I use the same lower-end media (the Maxell and/or Memorex 8x DVD-Rs), but burn them directly from iDVD using the ".dvdproj" file (instead of burning from Disk Utility using the ".img" Disk Image file I'd created earlier), everything plays fine in the standalone players.
OR: If I just upgrade the media (to Verbatim 8x DVD-R disks, which seem to have a much better reputation), but burn as I originally did (from Disk Utility using the ".img" Disk Image file), again, it's problem solved as far as the Toshiba home players are concerned.
I also tried other combinations (burning from Toast 6.11 at 4x and at 1x speeds) on both kinds of disks, and again all was well. So the one combination that proved the flakiest was using the more standard grade media and Disk Utility together. Using slightly better media (which I can understand) OR burning from something other than Disk Utility (which is what's making me scratch my head) both seem to improve the situation.
So how come burning from Toast (which uses that VIDEO_TS folder from the mounted disk image file), even on the "lower end" media, makes a disk which plays fine in the Toshibas, whereas burning from Disk Utility (which lets you simply select the unmounted disk image file itself) produces a no-go-on-some-players disk, yet works fine with a slightly higher-end disk?
Am I just banging my head against the welcome-to-DVD-authoring-in-2005 wall of randomness?
Or has anyone else found that there is generally something less stable about a DVD burned with Disk Utility, vs. one burned with either Toast or directly from iDVD -- all other things being equal?
While I'm at it, some related questions:
The specs for the SuperDrive in my dual 1.8 G5 PowerMac say that 4x is its maximum DVD burning speed. Would there be any advantage to my trying to buy only 4x (or slower) blank disks -- which some seem to say are more reliable?
Similarly, when burning with Toast, is there any theoretical advantage (in terms of maximum compatibility with the widest range of home players) to selecting the 1x burning speed, rather than leaving the "Best" default setting untouched?
Finally, as far as different brands of home players go, is Toshiba considered one of the more finicky when it comes to non-commercial DVDs? Are there other brands with either good or bad reputations in this regard, or is it just an ever-changing, model-by-model kind of issue?
Thanks for reading (sorry for the length).

Just got around to reading this thread, and wanted to report that I have experienced my second time of trouble with my toshiba DVD player.
As others have noted, the DVD project seemed great in iMovie and preview.
I then made the disk image and it saved fine, so I burned my DVDs. Thought I would check it out on the player. Everything seemed good until I reached one segment where the video sound suddenly seemed to mute, leaving the background audio track louder than it should be--as if the muted segments had switched places to produce the opposite effect of what I had set up. So, I went back to my iMac and played the disk image--perfect!
Then, I went down to my Sony DVD player, and, of course, my just-burned DVD played perfectly!
The last time this happened, I went crazy trying to 'fix' it --trying to re-edit the movie, wasting disks thinking they were bad--before I realized it was the player.
For some reason, the toshiba player doesn't read the audio tracks correctly--and drops or changes only some segments.
I had always thought Toshiba was a good brand. We have a combo TV-VCR small unit in the bedroom. It has always performed well, so we thought the DVD player would be good too, and it is, but only for the commercial DVDs. (Thanks for the explanation about them, that they are pressed not burned so of course they are more durable).
I am going to Best Buy to get an inexpensive Sony DVD player. I am tried of the inconsistency of the Toshiba!

  • Re: Toshiba DVD Player crashes on start up on an Equium L350-10L

I have never got the Toshiba DVD software to work on this laptop although DVDs can be played using Windows Media Player.
I have uninstalled the version supplied with the laptop and installed the latest version from the Toshiba website. The player will
now run once if it is the first application to be started from a hard reboot, but will crash if any other application has been run before it.
Any ideas as to how to solve this problem will be appreciated

One thing you could try is to uninstall the new player, and clean registry with ccleaner, or tools like this. Then reboot your system and reinstall it.
Do you get any error message when the player crashes after you launched other programs?

  • Satellite C855D Toshiba DVD player display suddenly stopped displaying

Please help as its now beyond me. The DVD player has suddenly just stopped. I can hear it and control it but cannot see it. I have checked the diplay button but its all ok.
    Help

    Im sorry IJK.
I thought it could be possible to download the Toshiba DVD player but it seems that this software is licensed and it cannot be downloaded from Toshiba driver page.
Its part of the Toshiba image. So you can get this tool only reinstalling the Toshiba image using the HDD recovery or the created Toshiba Recovery medium.
However, recovering the system would mean that the whole system would be installed again congaing previous HDD format. So in such case the data backup should be created before starting such procedure.
Another option: you could try to set the system back to early time point before the Toshiba DVD tool has crashed.
Last but not least you could try to install other freeware DVD player software like VLC player. It one of the best player software which is available on the market

    Hi
My DVD Player used to work fine . . . and then I installed iTunes.
It then worked for a while, but only by using 'Run as Administrator'.
After a couple of weeks I started to get the message "Toshiba DVD Player has stopped working".
I have uninstalled iTunes - and uninstalled and then re-installed the DVD Player - but it still will not work!!
    Any solutions please?

My solution to this is to remove Toshiba DVD player and install VLC player. You can get it for free.
It can read all video formats and you don't need some additional codecs.

  • Can't import from DVD-R or DVD Ram media from Panasonic Camcorder

I recently bought a Panasonic DVD VDR-D300 camcorder. The device accepts DVD RAM, DVD -R and DVD -RW media. The camera comes bundled with software from Pixela Corp. that allows me to download media to my hard drive (I am using a 1.33 ghz G4 Powerbook with a 60 GB HD, running OS 10.4.5). The Panasonic camera uses MPEG-2 compression. The hook-up from the camera to my powerbook is USB (no firewire supplied). When the camera is hooked up to the Mac, Apple DVD player opens and controls the camera -playback, eject, fast-forward of the media in the camera, no problem. When I want to import the footage into iMovie to edit, the files are not recognized. Doesn't matter if its DVD RAM, DVD -R or DVD -RW media - iMovie can't import it.
I really like the camera - it's got 3 ccd's and looks better than other camcorders in its class. We've got an 11 month old and the main reason we bought the camera was to make movies on iMovie to show him later on down the line. I've got calls into Panasonic about this, but so far nothing. If I can't get it to import into iMovie, I'll probably have to return it for something more mac-friendly.
Would appreciate any and all input on how to remedy this issue. Thanks!

    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast6/7 allows converting to dv/import dvd, hit apple-k
    * connect your Camera to a DVD-player and copy to tape/use as converter

  • IDVD and DVD+R media

    Hi all,
I was wondering if someone could help me. Recently I bought a whole pile of DVD+R discs, however, I find that whenever I go to burn an iDVD project using the DVD+R disc it brings up an error message after it has burnt the disc. I have also noticed that it takes forever to write the 'Lead-in'.
My PowerBook Superdrive definitely supports the DVD+R media as I can backup using the Finder as well as read DVD+R discs burnt using my Acer.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stu

    Stu,
then I'm going to go out and purchase another brand of DVD+R to see if it makes a difference.
What's your fascination for DVD+R? DVD-R and DVD+R are just format wars equally royalties for companies... As I mentioned, DVD-R has been more compatible with DVD players. This advantage is being reduced with newer DVD players built to play both formats; much like the DVD-Audio and SACD format war is leading to "universal" players.

  • Drive keeps ejecting Blank DVDs but will read DVD with media in it

I am at loss what to do. Whenever I put in DVD with media in it (including +R), it plays and reads it all just fine. CD data reads no problem too. However, when I put in a Blank DVD, it chugs and ejects it out completely.
Preferences are fine. It says 'Ask What to Do' is set when 'You insert a Blank DVD'
Here was how it started. Previously, I could put in a blank DVD and it would be just fine but I'm having problems burning after the 10.5.6 update. Read in a post somewhere to try resetting your PRAM which I did and now it won't accept the blank DVDs. Everything else is fine.
Would really appreciate ANY help I can get!

  • DVD-RW Media

Just attempted to back-up my iTunes inventory to DVD-RW media. The drive takes in the disc, then spits it out a moment later. The media is DVD-RW 4X. Is this the incorrect spec for my super drive? The iMac is 15" G4, 800 Mhz. The super drive is pioneer 104 with the firmware update installed. It seems that I've read somewhere that DVD-RW @ 2X is the fastest this drive will support, is this why??

Try removing the CD/DVD Filters from the Registry.
When CD/DVD related software is installed (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), they install filters into the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.
    1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
    2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
    4) Reboot.
If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).
This utility can remove the filters for you:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/bulletins/su2065061/RmvFltrs.exe
Failing that, I would backup the data and run recovery.

  • Why can't I append-to-disc on DVD+R media, 2009 Mini w/10.6.3?

I want to be able to burn multiple sessions to DVD+R media on my late-2009 Mac Mini w/ Superdrive.

Yet, when I display the disc information, it says the currently-inserted media is shown as APPENDABLE (see below.) I'm using Verbatim-brand DVD+R 4.7GB single-layer discs. What's going on? Why won't disk utility allow me to leave the media appendable for later sessions?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I will say that I do not have a lot of experience with burning discs. I have burned maybe a couple of dozen since burners became available in Macs.
I know that the System Profile shows that your optical drive can handle a selection of DVD disc types, but I had heard that the best disc types are those that match the drive's type, and are usually listed first. You have a DVD-RW drive, but you are trying to use DVD+R discs.
    I have a friend who swears by this software for burning DVDs;
