RE Toshiba Equium A60 PSA67E

Can someone help me please? We have installed A60 Laptop but the graphics dont seem to work properly and there are lines through the screen....Does anyone know why this is

Akuma,
Thank you so much for your suggestion. I followed that process. But it is still the same. It works normally with dicks allready having files on them but sees new ones as "full" and when I try and copy a file it says "windows has encountered a problem copying this file, what do you want windows to do?
Unfortunately "solve it!" isn't an option.
I get "cancel" or "try again". the window with files flying about then just goes on forever until I fall asleep. It there a plan B?
Thank you for your effort. THat looked good while I was doing it but no change. A friend suggested replacing the cd/dvd drive. Do you think it could be a hardwear problem like that when it wworks on part filled discs??

  • What DVD drives are compatible with Equium A60 PSA67E?

my question; what dvd drives are compatible for an equium a60 (psa67e-001001en)?
background; i did a very silly thing! whilst i was in japan and about 18 months after purchasing my a60 in the uk, the dvd drive packed up. i replaced it with a teac dvd drive and it worked like a dream! i threw the old drive away (i think it was a matsu****a, but can't remember the exact model). anyway, i came home and had a bit of spare time on my hands so i decided to tweak my machine and corrupted the windows xp registry.
Now the windows xp runs in a loop, i can't get access to it and i need to wipe the hard drive and start again basically. i put the recovery disk in, but the computer doesn't read from it and frustratingly finds its way to the loopy windows. i have determined that it is not recognising the teac drive that i used to replace the old one. i think if i put an original type back in, the firmware may recognise the drive and i'll be back in business.... or so i hope!
of course, any other advice would be gratefully received too! thanks.
work around??? ps... a work around i thought up... copy the contents of the recovery disk on to a hard drive (using my old computer) then swap the current hdd in my a60 with it... theory; when the computer finds the contents during booting, it will install xp on another part of that hard drive and i'll have a working machine again. could something like that work???????? any thoughts????

    thanks again friend!
as it turns out, that pioneer drive rung bells.
though my TEAC (DV-w28e) replacement looks identical to my previous drive and has worked ok with windows, at "the bios level" it is not being recognised... is that something you would have expected???? i must admit, with windows, the TEAC outperformed the original drive and was surprised it wasn't reading my recovery disk after my self infliction! i also tried using a usb hdd loaded up with the recovery disk and that didn't work.
but you answered my question so thanks a million for that.

  • Equium A60 PSA67E & Max hard disk capacity

Is there a max capacity that the BIOS can see as I am looking to upgrade the hard drive in my laptop ?

    Hi
As far as I know this unit was delivered with 40 GB HDD. Well, in my own opinion you can upgrade the HDD to 80 GB without any problems. I think tat it should be possible. But if you want to have any detailed informations so you should contact the HDD manufacturers or a professional HDD dealer because he has a detailed informtions about the HDD limits.

  • Need To Turn Off Touch Pad Tapping on Equium A60-173

Ok so I bought my father a laptop a few years back and now he has passed it on to me. I am wanting to turn off the tapping on the touch pad but I just can't find an option to do so.
I have installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro so there could be some drivers missing that come on the recovery CD.
I have tried to track down any drivers but I can't find my Laptop anywhere. I ran the Toshiba program which is supposed to detect which laptop you have but it came up with nothing when I ran it and I also searched in the drivers section on the Toshiba site but my laptop doesn't even appear in the choices of laptops.
It is a Toshiba Equium and on the back it says Equium A60-173 and the model number is PSA67E-00700C8J.
So if someone can please tell me how to turn off the tapping on the touch pad that would be great. I can't turn the touch pad off completely because obviously I use it to control the mouse pointer.
I saw a post that said to press Fn and F9 but that did nothing, probably because I don't have the correct drivers installed.
    Any help would be great.

    Hi buddy,
The tapping function of touchpad can be disabled in touchpad driver options. FN+F9 key combination will disable the whole touchpad so its another function.
The tapping function can only be disabled if the touchpad drivers are installed. If you install Windows from a normal Microsoft disk no drivers are installed and everything you have to install yourself. If you use the Toshiba recovery disk all drivers and tools will be installed automatically because it contains an image of factory settings. So recovery disk is more comfortable.
All drivers and tools that you need now can be downloaded here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
    *Archive* > Equium > Equium A60 > PSA67E
As you can see you must only search in Archive to find the drivers ;)

  • Need some info about Equium A60

    Hi,
I am looking to upgrade RAM on my laptop which is a Equium A60 (PSA67E-001004NO). I need to know what speed my motherboard supports... I posted a question some time back and got the impression that my laptop can take 533mhz but I enquired other places and got the idea that my laptop supports 333mhz. I need to know the correct value my motherboard supports. Whether its 333mhz or up over..
One thing more I need to know is there any way one can check for the configuration that laptop has, because there is nothing about this Equium on the net or Toshiba site...
I remember to see a page on which all hardware and preinstalled software details of Equium A60 PSA67E-001004NO were on the net but I fail to remember where I saw it..
Can someone help in any way?

    Hi
Your notebook has 256MB internal memory and just one slot is available for memory expansion. I have found info that your unit can handle with 1280MB max.
    The compatible memory modules are:
    PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)
If you want check part numbers on Google and you will find out all info about those modules. I have no time now to check it for you.

  • Equium A60-199 randomly shutting down -could it be overheating issue

Hi I am posting on behalf of a friend who has been experiencing her A60 laptop shutting down unexpectedlly.. ( she said it shut down after a few mins or when she tried opening Firefox)
    Syst Details
    Toshiba Equium A60-199 Model No: PSA67E -00J00C8J
    18 GB Free & 19 GB used
    512MB RAM
    Celeron 2.93GH processor
    Running WinXp Home
    NIS 2006
I have had a look remotely and was using it for about 30 mins opened FF with No issues using logmeinitreach software ..There was nothing showing in the event manager log, for the time of day it was shutting down earlier on..so I was wondering if it is a faulty power supply?
Everythng looked fine had just clicked on the Norton Internet security Full system scan which has not been run in a long time and the PC shut down NOW it won't reboot at all.??
Apparantly she can hear some whirring but nothing else happens..( which I guess could well be the fan kicking in)
Advised her to leave it for a bit and about 2 hours later she was able to turn it on again.. I am wondering if it could be overheating.??
Apparantly 3/4 months ago this was happening then stopped happening and has now started again..
Please can you give me some advice on how to clean it - other than taking it to a hardware workshop
I have downloaded the A60 users manual and have asked her to confirm what the indicator lights are showing - so as to try to verify of overheating
    is the issue..
I have also read online "You can spray compressed air into the air intake vents but not the air output vents to help get rid of the dust and debris." I have looked at the manual and can see 2 lots of vents ..One is on the side and one on the bottom, is th eintake the one on the side ? Do I literally point the air at the side vents and spray ?
When asking her if she knows when teh fan is always on, sometimes on, never one etc she seemd to think ot is ALWAYS on.. which woudl again point to overheating..
    Please advise

    Hello Cathy
I also believe the suddenly shutdowns are result of overheating. If the dust blocks cooling grill the air circulation is blocked and hardware can achieve critical hardware temperature very fast. Sometimes you can start any preinstalled application, the CPU usage goes to higher level and notebook will suddenly shuts down.
The notebook must be cleaned as soon as possible. If you do not have experience with disassembling procedure I recommend you to contact nearest service and the notebook should be cleaned on professional way. It costs a little bit but you can be sure that you can use notebook for a longer period of time.

    Bye and good luck!

  • My Equium A60 doesnt bootup after Windows update

    Hi.
I have an Equium A60 (PSA67E) around 1 year old. There have been number of problems with this one recently. Firstly there was the overheating problem. The machine would heat up and shuts off by itself without any warning. I tried many options by keeping the cooling ports clear but dint help at all.
Recently I have upgraded my bios to 1.90 version as suggested by Toshiba. I'm still to see overheating until now after bios upgrade.
The most annoying is the display driver which in this case is a ATI radeon mobility 7000 failing. This would cause the display to become oversized and the resolution is very low. It would go by itself when I restart the machine.
Last month I reformatted the machine using Toshiba recovery CD. All went smoothly until I switched on the automatic windows update. The first update comes and I install it and restart machine to let it function. It goes well. The second update comes is installed and as I proceed to restart to let the upgrades functional, it wont boot. The machine keeps on starting again and again without loading OS. The display is the typical Toshiba boot display with the yellow indicator (loader) on the screen and after a while a blue screen comes for a short while (I am unable to read what error message it says) and machine starts booting up again. What can be the problem?
I need to install windows XP SP2 and for that I need to go through updating Windows. What can be the remedy and what about the available display driver update. I tried it but it makes situation worse.
I have used the recovery CD at least 20 times as there is no other alternative. I tried starting in safe mode but din't work.

    Hi Gaurav,
From your description of the problem there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with what you have done so far, but I would just like to clarify a few points.
    1. After you install the system from the recovery CDs do you install/enable your anti-virus software ?
    2. Are you using Windows Update in automatic mode or do you manually select the update process ?
I would recommend that you disable the automatic restart on error (Advanced tab in System properties) so that the system will not attempt to reboot when you get your blue screen error. This will let you see what the error is.
    regards,

  • Equium A60 Blue Screen after updating to XP Home SP2

I have a Toshiba Equium A60-692. I have updated to XP SP2 and now get a blue screen on start up with the message that ATI driver ATI2DVG has gone into a continuous loop. The Microsoft error report says this is due to incompatable drivers, but I have the latest driver from Toshiba.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    HI Laura,
if it is important for you to install SP2 on your notebook you should try a complete new OS.
At first save your data on an external device (CD, DVD, USB-HDD, ...) and start the Toshiba recovery CD. But pay attention all data will be lost, also other partitions!!!
After the new fresh OS is ready, update your drivers, Tools and QFEs from Toshiba HP and install it!
I the end try the SP2 installation! Then it should run!

  • Equium A60 - DVD drive does not read data discs

    Hello
I am having a problem with my DVD drive on my Toshiba Equium A60 laptop. The DVD drive (Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K13A ) will play shop bought films etc without a problem. it will also read a blank DVD when you put it in the drive but once information/Data is on the disc it wont detect the disc.
I am not really that good with computer so any help would be most grateful. The computer used to play everything it just stopped doing it a few months back.
    Many thanks Phil

    The issue is clear.
Fact is that not all CDs and DVDs are supported and compatible. There could be always an issue with a reading or writing
The same happened to me too I had to test different CDs and DVDs from different manufacturers and finally some medias worked
In your user manual you should find a list of medias which were tested and should run properly check it!

  • White with vertical colored lines on Equium A60

    Hi
I am new to this but really need your help. My laptop is about 18 months old and has always worked fine. Last week I plugged a broadband modem into it through an Ethernet cable and set up broadband. A couple of minutes after doing this when I looked at the screen again, it had gone all white with vertical colored lines down it. I have rebooted the machine etc and that is all I ever get now. As soon as I switch on, it just goes straight to white with these vertical colored lines.
I have tried connecting an external monitor to it and that works fine. The laptop is a Toshiba Equium A60. I am worried that the screen has blown, is it possible for a surge or something like that to come down the Ethernet cable and blow the screen?
    Thanks
    Adrian

Display functionality has nothing to do with Ethernet cable. Test with external monitor is very good and on this way you can see if maybe graphic card is responsible for that.
According to your description I believe that display is the problem. Of course, just intensive display test can give more answers.

  • Equium A60 shuts down automatically after 10min

My laptop TOSHIBA Equium A60, after 10 min of work it logs off because it seems to become very hot although the fan is working?
How can I fix this problem

Hi I had the exact same problem
It was definitely overheating, unfortunately whoever designed the heat sink radiator didn't think about dust build-up!
I've owned mine for about a year and a half and recently (last 5-6 months) I noticed the fan running at full speed all the time, then during summer it overheated often, now that the weather is cooler I cant blame the sun!
So I went down the road brought a jewelers screwdriver set for next to nothing and started dis-assembling the laptop.
I first found some instructions off the net (print them out!), the trickiest part is to remember to get the three screws under the CD drive!.
Once I had it apart and removed the heat sink and fan it was immediately apparent what the problem was, the heat sink resembled a shag pile carpet!!!
I went down the road again and got a can of compressed air, blew the dust away, put it back together and hey presto, its hardly even warm!
Any fool can fix this problem, don't waste your money giving it to a technician who will charge you 70 per hour to fix it for you.

  • Equium A60-173 - After BIOS update no boot

Hi, I have a Toshiba Equium A60-173 running Windows XP.
I just attempted to update the BIOS and all was going well until it shut down and did not switch itself back on. I waited and waited then powered it up myself. Result was a black screen or maybe even screen did not power on. I left it like this for about 5 mins then thought it had crashed so tried to switch it off to restart. The power button would not respond so I left it a little longer then removed the battery (<<<idiot I know)
Now the laptop will not boot, I press the power button and get: beeeep beep beeeep beep then it shuts off :S
I am lost and hope I haven't just destroyed my girlfriends laptop!
    Any help/steps/advice very much appreciated!
    Thanks

    Hi
Unfortunately if BIOS update fails you can do nothing because the ROM module must be reflashed from a notebook technician
So you must contact a service partner in your country and ask for help. The guys can help you to get rid of this.
