Re: Trimming quicktime file. Help!

Hi guys, Im doing some editing for a friend whose quicktime files are all 20GB plus, and am low on space on my harddrive, so cant copy them over and put them in final cut. Can anyone enlighten me on trimming quicktime clips and saving that specific trim in order to put on my harddrive, to then put into FC, as to not have to drag the whole clip onto my harddrive.
Many thanks
jim

Hi Gary,
It might be time to move on to DVDSP 4. I had a lot of trouble with DVDSP 3 and larger more complicated projects. I never got your particular problem but it always invovled the usability of particular projects. And I never really located a source to the problem.
One problem I had in the early days of DVDSP 3 was the quality of RAM (3 seemed particularly sensitive to this).

  • Dreamweaver CC and .mov Quicktime files - Help Please

I have a Mac and use Final Cut Pro with Compressor 4.1 to generate movies.  The final format is a .mov file.  Is this file type compatible with DW CC?  If so, how do I insert it into the DW CC file or should I be using a different video file format?

.mov won't work unless your target audience has QuickTime player & required QT plugins.
For best cross browser results, use HTML5 <video> with these 3 file types:

    .ogg

  • Trimmed Quicktime Time code Media Files not reading correctly in CS5+ (works in CS4).

I'm using Prores footage with metadata Timecode inserted into the Quicktime file.  Then I edit the Quicktime file, click "Save" and then import the trimmed file into APP CS4.  CS4 recognizes the edited clip and displays the timecode correctly (adhearing to the trims made on the file with Quicktime).
BUT, in CS5, when I use the SAME clips, the timecode displays what the untrimmed timecode on the trimmed image.  So now, my timecode is OFF.
Really want to figure out how to fix this.  Does CS6 fix this issue?  Is there a preference or custom setting I need to select in order to have CS5 adhere to the metadata stored in the Quicktime file's timcode information?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There is a difference between Save and Save As in QuickTime Player. When you Save after trimming, the trimmed data remains in the file and takes up the same amount of space as before. When you Save As, the trimmed data is not included and you end up with a smaller file.
I don't know why CS5 is behaving differently but it's more efficient to Save As and it will solve the CS5 problem too.

  • HELP!!! Quicktime Crashed and Perminanlty Deleted Files HELP!!!

I was trimming a movie file in quicktime when the application crashed. Upon crashing I saw my file get deleted from my computer. It isn't in my trash bin or anywhere on my computer. I DID NOT DO THIS, why did quicktime delete my file? How can I recover it? Someone please help meeeeee.

This is a video file taken with my camera. I exported it onto my computer.
If you exported the file to your computer, then the exported version of the file should still be on your computer unless, a) you never actually stored it on your computer, b) deleted it, or c) overwrote it by saving a different version to itself. Therefore, the question becomes "How did you 'export' the file to your computer?" and "Which version of QT were you using to trim the file?"
It deleted the original source file is what I'm saying... When I went to trim the video to make it shorter quicktime crashed and erased the Source File, the original and the only copy that I had.
Normally I would say this is impassible unless you deleted the source file manually during the editing process before the crash. The crash should simply lose all edits made before the crash but not affect the source file. Even stting the source file to a zero frame playback doration in QT 7 Pro and then saving the playback pointers would not delete the original file. And, even though your could not play the data with the QT player, the file would still exist and the data would still exist in the file whilch third-party players could still play. The only way I can force this to happen is to open the file in QT 7, copyth the data to temporary memory, delete the original file, begin trimming, and then have QT crash while working on the "temporarily" stored data in the "project" player being edited.
It's not in the trash and file recovery programs aren't finding it either. It has left me very confused and with a very bad image of Quicktime in my mind.
Editing projects are, by their very nature, "nascent" until they are exported or saved. Therefore it would not appear in your trash nor would the source file appear in the trash unless you put it there. Some forms of editing (like QT 7 trims using in/out references) can be written to the source file container which will prevent your accessing the data in the QT player but does not physically remove the data from the file container.
Without knowing your specific workflow and apps used, it is difficult to try and guess what might have happened.

  • Recovering full quicktime file after trimming

I recently wanted to extract a small segment of a large quicktime file to send to a friend. I used quicktime 7 (don't like the new one) to trim it down to the desired length. I accidentally hit <save> and now I can't get the whole clip to play again. The size of the file in my Finder is the same as it was before but only the shortened clip will play. Is there any way to recover this? Thanks in advance for any help.

    It says "cannot read file",
What says that? iMovie, QT Player, ...?
Is that ALL "it" says? No error code?

  • I have the newest imovie as i got a macbook for christmas, i have made a video and want to upload it to youtube and it is a quicktime file, but yet it is still taking ages to upload and youtube says if i change the format it will take less time, help?

I need help for how to upload a video on youtube when it is a quicktime file but how i change it to a streamable format in order for it to not take as long to upload, how do i do this?

I have the same issue.  If you are exporting from iMovie version 10.0.1, I run into the same issues if I export directly to YouTube or if I export to file then upload to YouTube.
Google's help file doesn't properly address this problem and thier help is also out of date.  In talking to a support rep at Apple, they said the export to YouTube should just work or the exporting to a file then uploading otherwise it's an issue for Google support.
If someone can post a solution that works (is a streamable format - which is different than the format that YouTube accepts as it will accept many formats but take a long time to process them), I'd be interested to hear also.
    Thanks,
    Rob.

  • HELP TO EXPORT ANIMATED GIF AS QUICKTIME FILE

I have keynote 6.2 and have imported an animated gif file within my page presentation which also has a movie file and sound. When I export the file as a quicktime file, the final file does not show the animation at all, it is static?
I have tried different options when exporting as a mov and 4p4 file, neither makes any difference, can someone help please.
I am using the file to import into Imovie, where I am piecing everything together into a movie11.
    Thanks

Thanks for your prompt reply Gary, but the problem is how can I resolve this? Do I import another file type? Can I export to another format other than Quicktime. Someone mentioned changing the frame rate of the animation to either 25 or 30 frames a second, or does this not make a difference?

  • Devestated by dissapearing Quicktime files! Help!

    Hi,
I've been editing a short film for a few days. Turned my computer on today and all the files have gone offline... No problem, I go straight to the files to reconnect but it tells me that the file 'does not have proper content to reconnect'. So i go into my capture scratch and every single quicktime file for that project is the same size (204kb)... It would appear that they've all gone!? I've got other projects working either side of this one that have been unnaffected.... I'm devestated!
I would really appreciate any help anyone has... it really doesn't seem to make any sense! The only time i've ever had anything like this was when my second hard drive came loose in transit... but that affected everything on the drive, this is very isolated.
    Thanks so much for reading
    Dan

Have you tried repairing the problem hard drive in disk utility? Is recapturing the media an option?

  • QuickTime exporting a trimmed .mov file

I've successfully trimmed a .mov file to the beginning and ending that I want. But when I come to export it (save it) and pick Format for Mac & PC for some reason it automatically exports the file as audio only. The trimmed version of the orginal has both audio and video, but the trimmed exported file only contains audio. Anyone know why even though I'm not choosing to export it as audio only?

  • I updated imovie and I Used to be able to save as Quicktime file, now not an option & files are so large when I save as mpeg4 and just rename them. Please help!

I updated imovie and I used to be able to save as Quicktime file, now not an option & files are so large when I save as mpeg4 and just rename them. Please help!

Actually it is easier than I thought. It is H264 but the wrapper is m4v. You can just change that in the finder to .mov and drop it into iDVD. iMovie will send it to iTunes so just right click on it in iTunes and select reveal in finder and then copy/paste to desktop and change to .mov. Then drag into iDVD. Really easy.

  • Help!! The lenght of my quicktime file is different when I import it to fcp

So I have a project on fcp. 23.98 fps. total length 1 hour.. I exported a quicktime file at 'current frame rate'. THe outputted quicktime shows that the length is 1hour and 5 seconds. When I import this quicktime back into final cut - the lenght goes back to 1 hour.
Can someone plese tell me what is happening???

OK, so i figured it has something to do with the frame rate. I am editing in 23.98. when i edit in 29.97 then the quicktime file has same length. BUT... why should qt length change when i output from a 23.98 version AND the qt file is playing at 23.98?

  • HELP - Quicktime Files locked in a perpetual task

I was downloading quicktime files today with explorer for mac os when explorer froze. Now these particially downloaded files are in a perpetual "task" state. When I try to delete them it says I have to wait for the task they are on to end. I can't even move them to a new folder. What should I do?

Rename each of the files to end with .rtf, and then open TextEdit. Create a new TextEdit document and then save it to the same location as one of the files, with the same name. When prompted, overwrite the existing file; repeat this process for each of the files you want to delete. When done, delete all of the TextEdit documents.

  • How do I trim the file size?

All of a sudden I went from 400MB for a 2.5 minute movie to over 1GB with a 3.5M movie. Are there any tricks to trimming the file size so I can upload to websites?
I am @ 104GB and need to shave 5GB off the file size, which should be 750GB.
    Any help is appreciated.
    CW

    Check your H.264 settings
With Key Frames automatic and Data Rate automatic, you can play with Quality
to adjust file size. Another approach is to limit the data rate and/or use a frame
rate that is an even division of the original, like 20fps if your original is 30fps.
If you want to become a master of encoding H.264 with Quicktime, read this:
