After updating to Mavericks 10.9, I am unable to print. The printers are there and the process starts, but it is not able to connect.
I tried resetting the printer settings, but still getting the same result "unable to connect".
I have a HP Laserjet 1020 and HP Deskjet K109. Both printers are on office network.
Earlier, i was able to print on both printers in the same network with OS 10.8.
Need Help.

While on hold with HP yesterday I heard them say that there are no new drivers for OX 10.9 and their printers. They said that Apple Software Support had a fix. HP also has a video titled “Installing an HP Printer in Mac OS X Mavericks Using Apple Software update with a USB Connection.”
The video says to turn on your printer, connect the USB cable to the printer then to the Mac, and voila, you get a small window which leads you right to the desired operation.
I did that and nothing happens. IF anyone has any luck making that work, please post it for all. This really seemed to start with OS 10.8, as my .png and soon my .jpg items were blurred and nearly unreadable. Also, my documents scans came out blank.
In my 31 years with Apple this is the dumbest thing yet. [Still there are some silly changes in 10.9 such as the tags which are now useless for me, inability to change mail to all text (eg. eBay emails with lots of unneeded graphics), lack of easy access to addresses when sending a new message in Mail.]

Photosmart c410 unable to print with Mavericks 10.9.3

up until the latest Mac OS X update (10.9.3 out May 25th 2014), i was able to print (wireless) without incedent. But since that update, i've been unable to print to that printer. My wife's HP laptop (running windows 8.1) prints fine to the printer (HP Photosmart c410). My Macbook Air recognizes the printer and connects without problem but when i go to print, the printer shows "printing...printer in use" but does not awaken the printer.
i have no issue printing to my Epson Artisan 810 so suspect the problem lies with a specific driver issue between 10.9.3 and the HP PS c410. any ideas? (i've deleated and re-added the printer but no change).

Only having the AirPrint driver tells me that there is something missing. Please complete the steps below.
Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OKto confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
Double-clickDisk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and download and install the HP Printer Drivers for OS X.
Now when you add the printer, you should have the HP driver to choose, do not select the AirPrint driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can the printer driver

Unable to print to Canon iR 2380/2550 after upgrading to Mavericks

Hi all,
At work here in the UK, we upgraded our machines to Mavericks OS X 10.9 and since then have been unable to print to our office printer. The only work around we found so far was to print through Google Cloud, and only in black and white.
I have ready a lot of posts and tried different options and advice but no joy so far.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

For anybody having the same problem, one of our IT guys found the needed driver in the Australian Canon website - seem they have a lot more clout than US and UK customers.
Printing is now working as it should from my machine.

Unable to print PDF download in Safari in Mavericks

I clicked on a link and it opened a PDF in Safari. However, I am unable to print it. This seems to have occurred after installing Mavericks. I have the latest Adobe Reader and the latest printer driver from CAnon for my Pixma i3600. How do I print this PDF open in Safari. Thanks for your help.

I solved this by going into my internet plugins folder and dragging the adobe pdf viewer plugins to the trash. Now when I open a PDF from Safari the file open in Reader. this enables me to print. Thanks to TheNerdGuy for responding.

You will need to access that PDF on your computer first, before you can print it — unless that PDF is corrupted, which occasionally happens. Your printer needs to be configured and working.
Default PDF web-browser plug-in in Safari, latest (Firefox/Chrome) also built-in.
Click on the remote PDF link to open in browser
On Mavericks, you will need to click through security challenges for the PDF
File menu > Print
Right-click on remote PDF file and then choose Download Linked File As...Open that file in /Applications/Preview.appFile > print

With PDF imaged in browser, either select print icon from the plug-in toolbar, or mouse over the bottom one inch of displayed document and you will see a printer icon in the popup toolbar. Use that.

I'm unable to print from illustrator running os x mavericks

Why can't I print from illustrator? I don't have a problem from other apps. just illustrator. I downloaded new drivers for both of my printers an HP Deskjet D1600 and an Epson Stylus Photo 1400. Anyone know of a fix? This first happened when I upgraded to OS X Mavericks. I got a fix and everything worked. Then I installed a Silhouette Cameo (vinyl cutter machine) now I can't print from Illustrator again. Anyone have any ideas or a fix?

Never mind. Found the fix. These got reinstalled and need to be removed. Ugh!

I fixed it! After searching I found a workaround:
The following workaround can be applied to get these older versions of Illustrator and InDesign to print on this newer operating system. Remove the following files and back them up:

Same problem, unable to print with a brand-new Mac with OSX Mavericks. Already have an HP 1217nfw Multi-Function Printer (MFP), could not get a new printer download from HP Support because HP says that OSX Mavericks will figure out which driver I need....
The following procedure worked for me. If you type in the IP address of your printer, Mavericks will figure out what the printer is, and automatically install the right driver. It worked, first try.
To find your printer IP address: on HP printers, it's shown on the printer display if you press "OK". Other printers likely have something similar. If not: try scanning your network with a Wi-Fi app, or often the Administrator page of your Wi-Fi router will identify the active devices on your network.
1) In Settings, select "Printers and Scanners" icon.
2) Select the "+" button in bottom left corner of dialog box.
3) Another dialog box entitled "Add" pops up.
4) Select the "IP" earth-globe, third from the left.
5) Type in your printer IP address you found earlier.
6) Don't change any other fields.
7) Click "OK"
The Mac then searches the printer profile of the HP printer, figures out that it needs a driver, and downloads the printer driver.
The printer is then identified by its IP address. You can change this later in the "Options and Supplies" dialog box of the printer utility without affecting the printer function.
For this procedure to work, your HP printer must be active. Make sure you wake it up by pressing "OK".
HP: if this works, please add this advice to your "Printer Support" pages for Mac support.

Unable to print hp office jet 8500A plus to i mac

Cannot get printer to print wirelessly from imac. Printer is HP officejet 8500A plus and o/s is Mavericks (10.9.3). Everything looks normal on imac but printer does not print when commanded.

Unable to print full page to 1 specific printer while other computers can.

I have 1 computer (Windows 7, 64 bit) which is unable to print full page to a Xerox Phaser 7760GX. I have other computers (Windows 7 64 bit and Mac OSX Mavericks) which are able to print perfectly fine to the same printer. This only happens in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, not in other software I have tested. The same PDF's also print to other printers without problem.
So far I have:
Re-installed drivers (including the Xerox Generic Drivers)
Set it to print as image (which makes it full screen, but also greyscale)
What happens when I try to print normally, is assume the page is portrait. It will print it landscape, on the right side of the page (so it takes up half the page). It will also send out a blank page after it. Has anyon else experienced this and come up with a different solution?

Unable to Print to Epson printers using LPD on PPC, works on Intel

After updating to Leopard, I am unable to print to my network printer Epson 870 and CX6400 from my G5 Imac. Everything worked fine with Mac OS 10.4.x. It works from my MacBook running Leopard. I am unable to select (even using browse) the appropriate Gutenprint V.5.1.3 driver. It fails to output to print server. From my MacBook all my network printer works - Samsung ML-1710, Epson 870 and CX6400. From the PPC Imac, only the Samsung works.
If I share the printer from the MacBook, the iMac sees the printers and automatically selects the appropriate Gutenprint driver. I am using IPD. I also tried Window. I can not select the Gutenprint drivers. For the 870, I tried selecting Epson Stylus Color and Photo series 1.3 and Epson CX6000 series driver.
I've reloaded the drivers from Apple and also tried Epson's drivers. I haven't tried loading the standard (non-Apple) gutenprint drivers.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have the answer. It took quite a while but I know why the 3880 won't print from Photoshop 4 with Maverick. It is due to the Epson .icc page description files. The way to solve the problem is to make your own .icc. OK, so you don't know how to do it. This is what I did so now I get the quality prints I expect from an expensive printer.
You need to go to www.datacolor.com/spyderprint and purchase the Spyderprint hardware and software. It comes as a package for $300 to $350 depending on if you get a sale. The software will print on the 3880 test sheets of color blocks. With the hardware reader you then read the colors on the test sheets printed. What this does is match the monitor image with the printer, ink and paper you used. It makes an .icc page description file for you to select instead of the Epson .icc file. When you print again select the new .icc file and also choose "Printer Manages Colors" instead of "Photoshop Manages Colors" I know this is usual but it works. When you are done you will be smiling too with your beautiful results.
One other thing. If you want, it is optional, also purchase the Spider 4 Pro for $150. It calibrates your monitor and helps make excellent prints.
I understand it is more money and you already probably have a good computer, expensive camera to go with the 3880 so spend the extra money so it all works together.

Color Printing issue on Canon MP600 Printer and Mavericks upgrade

I realize that some people have been having problems scanning with the new upgrade on their printer, however, I am have trouble printing in color with the new Mavericks upgrade. Black and white is fine, but if there is any logo or color fonts, they are distorted. How do I go about fixing this?

I too was having the same issue where I was unable to print in color on my MP600 with Mavericks. It printed incorrect font, colors and distorted the size and placement on page . I followed the above instructions to download the MP600R via the Canon UK website and it has solved my problem.
If anyone is as computer illiterate as I seem to be: After downloading the MP600R driver and installing it, I went to System Preferences>Printers and Scanners> delete the printer currently listed>add a new printer and select the MP600R from the list of software to choose.
I have yet to delete any software/driver files related to the old printer, so I was able to correct the problem simply by downloading the new driver, deleting the current printer, and adding a "new" printer selecting the MP600R.
So happy it is now resolved as this has been driving me crazy for months!
