Re-Update 10.4.8 combo?

In response to my search on a problem with Preview 3.0.8 not opening because the nib file will not load (noted int he console), the solution was to use Pascifist and reload Preview from the disk (I've tried all of the trashing stuff). Having no disk to work from, and having already updated my new Mac from 10.4.6 to .8, can I simply redownload the 10.4.8 combo download and find (hope) that Preview will be repaired?

Hi enahs,
yes, the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (PPC) does contain the latest version of Preview and chances are good that your problems will be repaired by re-applying this.
Do not forget: Repair permissions before and after an update!

  • TS4424 what if i cannot find my mail 4.6 right after i reinstall the Mac OS X Update v10.6.8 combo v1.1?

    initially i have both 4.5 and 4.6 mail, but have the message of not being able to run my mail. so i followed the instructions and reinstalled Mac OS X Update v10.6.8 combo v1.1 but i cannot proceed to the next step, because
    it says my hd does not meet the requirements for this update. and my mail 4.6 is gone, i cant even find it using spotlight.

    I reinstalled my MAC OS X update 10.6.8 successfully. But when I tried to do the next step which is to reinstall security update 2012-004, I couldn't. When I chose my macintosh hard disk to install it on, my installer said it can't be installed. That this volume does not meet the requirements for this update. Mine is version 10.6.8 is it because its not compatible with my version?

  • Installer won't install updates (10.7.3 Combo/ AirPort Utility)

    I was wondering why Software Update (or whatever it is called on the English GUI) didn't display the 10.7.3 or the Airport Utility updates yet on my iMac (27" mid2011 / OS 10.7.2).
    So I tried to run Software Update manually. Software Update tells me that there is no new software available for my Mac.
    Next I tried to download the Combo Update to 10.7.3, Airport Utility 5.6 and 6.0. Turns out that I can't install any of those updates manually either.
    When I have to define the location to install the update all my hard disks have the warning sign attached and the following message is displayed:
    Mac OS X Combined / Airport Utility /...  can't be installed on this disk. An error occured while evaluating JavaScript for the package.
    Tried repairing permissions, rebooting, no sucess so far.
    Any help would be appriciated!

    Oh god, just figured out what the problem was...
    Booted up from the recovery partition and there it said "Can't install Lion on Server partition." I knew instantly what happened.
    A few weeks ago I installed Snow Leopard as guest in Parallels via the ServerVersion.plist workaround. Forgot to delete the file I copied via Terminal... no wonder Softwareupdate couldn't install anything since it thought this was a Server. Thanks, your suggestion led to the resolution of this problem.

  • Help, ibook not booting after installing update 10.4.8 combo

    Hi there,
    i just updated my ibook 500 dual usb, with 10.4.8 combo and when i restarted the screen was gray with a flashing question mark.
    I tried to boot in every mode (with x, with startup manager) and also i checked with disk warrior and disk utility and the hard drive is fine.
    Any idea?
    Thanks
    Marco

    Well, if disk utility shows the disk, as well as disk warrior, I would move on to reset the PRAM (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58042). If that does not work, I would run disk check from disk utility on the install cdrom. If that does not work, I would move on to an archive and install. Please check:

  • Mac OS X Update 10.4.5 Combo Vs Mac OS X Update 10.4.5 Delta

    What would be the difference between these two installers apart from their size?
    Regards,
    Daniel

    "I have been saying in my posts that Combo will take care of system hiccups / glitches that sequential SUs would not.
    Is that correct?"
    You are correct in the sense that it appears that users who have installed a Delta update and had some problems have had some success overcoming those problems by reinstalling the Combo Updater. However, this is not a cureall nor does it mean that everyone who uses a Delta updater will have a problem or that all problems will be solved by applying the Combo Updater.
    I know this sounds a bit "weasely," but as the commercial once said, "your mileage may vary."

  • Trying to update table based on combo box choice

    Hey all,
    I have taken over code someone has created and it is confusing me what they have done. the code uses an abstracttablemodel to create the table (and i assume, fill the data). I can't for the life of me, figure out how the data is loaded. Can someone tell me what is happening. also, what would be the easiest way to update it to only show that info that matches the criteria? I will post what i think is relevant code, but if i am missing something, i will be happy to throw it in there. Here's the code:
    public class ABMD extends JPanel implements ActionListener
    private JTable table;
        private TableSorter sorter;
    public ABMD()
    sorter = new TableSorter(new ABMDTableModel());
            table = new JTable(sorter);
            sorter.setTableHeader(table.getTableHeader());
            ListSelectionModel rowSM = table.getSelectionModel();
            rowSM.addListSelectionListener(new ListSelectionListener()
                public void valueChanged(ListSelectionEvent e)
                    if (e.getValueIsAdjusting()) return;
                    ListSelectionModel lsm = (ListSelectionModel)e.getSource();
                    if (lsm.isSelectionEmpty())
                        viewDataButton.setEnabled(false);
                        getDataButton.setEnabled(false);
                        removeDataButton.setEnabled(false);
                    else
                        int selectedRow = sorter.modelIndex(table.getSelectedRow());
                        PlanData currentPlanData = (PlanData) planArrayList.get(selectedRow);
                        if (!currentPlanData.getPlanListLoaded())
                            getDataButton.setEnabled(true);
                            viewDataButton.setEnabled(false);
                            removeDataButton.setEnabled(false);
                        else
                            getDataButton.setEnabled(false);
                            viewDataButton.setEnabled(true);
                            removeDataButton.setEnabled(true);
                        String desc = "";
                        desc = currentPlanData.getUniqueID();
                        descTextAreaValue.setText(desc);
    class ABMDTableModel extends AbstractTableModel
            private String[] columnNames = {"Plan Local",
                    "OPLAN",
                    "Air Defense Plan",
                    "Planning Period",
                    "Defense Design",
                    "Published Date"
            public int getColumnCount()
                return columnNames.length;
            public int getRowCount()
                return planArrayList.size();
            public String getColumnName(int col)
                return columnNames[col];
            public Object getValueAt(int row, int col)
                PlanData planData = (PlanData) planArrayList.get(row);
                switch(col)
                    case 0:
                        return Boolean.valueOf(planData.getPlanListLoaded());
                    case 1:
                        return planData.getOplan();
                    case 2:
                        return planData.getAirDefensePlan();
                    case 3:
                        return planData.getPlanningPeriod();
                    case 4:
                        return planData.getDefenseDesign();
                    case 5:
                        return planData.getPublishedDate();
                throw new IllegalArgumentException("Illegal Column: " + getColumnName(col));
            public Class getColumnClass(int c)
                return getValueAt(0, c).getClass();
            public boolean isCellEditable(int row, int col)
                return false;
    }

    I can't for the life of me, figure out how the data is loadedLooking at the get value method we see:
    PlanData planData = (PlanData) planArrayList.get(row);Therefore the data is store in the "planArrayList". So the data is loaded whenever you add data to that ArrayList.

  • Safari won't open after OS 10.4 software update combo update

    I am working on a computer iMac g5 1.8ghz, 600 mhz Bus, 512mb Ram was 10.3.9 but Safari was not working because Safari 3.1.1 was installed. I tried removing all safari, cache, plist to no avail, Firefox worked after reinstall. I remove safari and upgraded the station to OS 10.4.5, when the install finished it had installed Safari 2 and I was able to open it, I ran the Software update, which included the combo to upgrade to 10.4.11, reset the indicator light and one more update that I can't remember and now I am back to where I started Safari won't open.
    I can open Firefox so I know it's not network related,
    I've repaired permissions and restarted
    I've created a secondary Admin account, so I know it's not the profile.
    I've deleted plist and cache of safari before I did the OS update
    After the combo upgrade, now Both Safari 3.0.4 and Software update will not open.
    Does anyone have some insight on this? I've spent hours on this supposed quick fix my friend needed.

    Hello h:
    At this point, I would suggest an archive and install (and then run software updater, do not try to decide what updates to install yourself):

  • Mountain lion combo updater

    I can't find a download link for the 10.8 combo updater.  Does it usually take a while after release for that to appear?

    I did already purchase it.  But I was remembering the method I used when I updated to Lion, which was probably a few weeks after the original release, by which time there was already a 10.7.1 update.  I purchased it, but canceled the update, and downloaded the combo updater to avoid some reported problems.
    Thanks for reminding me there's no "combo" until there's something to combine!

  • Download combo update fails, again and again

    Any ideas on what this might be about? I have an Octo MacPro 2.8Ghz with a new installation of the original OS - 10.5.1 and whenever I try and update it with either the combo or an older update I get a "failed to validate this update" error message during startup. I can't use any of my newly purchased Avid software because this version needs 10.5.5 or above! Please Help!

    HI,
    Try deleting this file. com.apple.softwareupdate.plist
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.
    You've had issues with this before?
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9798214#9798214
    Try repairing disk permissions.
    First, Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
    You are running Software Update from your admin account ???
    You could try downloading the 10.5.6 combo update 10.5.6 combo update then using Pacifist to extract the .dmg file.
    Info on the combo and Pacifist from here. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1925796

  • 10.4.9 Combo Update amavisd problem

    I just applied the 10.4.9 combo update to a 10.4.8 machine that had been updated previously with BuildSmart.
    Everything seemed fine, except amavisd refused to start.
    System log fills up with amavisd failing & throttling messages and the outbound queue (obviously) fills up.
    -"sudo launchctl load org.amavis.amavisd.plist" reports "Nothing to load"
    -the original amavisd binary is where I left it, in /usr/bin
    -the launchd plist itself is/was unchanged
    -the PID file in /var/amavis went missing after the upgrade, but copying the PID file to /var/amavis from a backup did not help
    -replacing all the postfix & amavis config files with backups did not help
    -telnet localhost 10024 responds with a permission denied message
    repairing permissions results in * a lot* of fixes to permissions, but nothing that allowed amavisd to launch. I repaired the clamav user after permission rebuild with 'sudo chown clamav:clamav /usr/share/clamav'
    postconf -n looked normal and matched the backup output
    file owners & groups all looked normal
    su'ing to clamav and issuing "amavisd reload" results in some type of "compilation" error message and a complaint about MIME:Base 64 not being installed - almost like the amavisd binary was a make file ... I confirmed it was at least marked and labeled executable ...
    I installed MIME::Base64 using CPAN- no change.
    I am now restoring from backup and will try again using software update instead of the combo updater. If it repeats, I'll post with more details.
    In the meantime, if anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated.
    Mac Pro 2.6 4GB/3x500GB Raid/X1900, MacBook Pro C2D   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    This is a PPC machine (not universal ...)
    I've gone back to my backup for now, but any ideas you might have would be most appreciated.

    Amavis log is empty (except for processing done before the update)
    ClamAV log is the normal startup messages
    As far as the logs go, Amavis won't start, so the only messages are in the System log from launchd stating that amavis failed to launch and that it will retry x more times. I can't launch amavisd in debug mode either, although any attempt to do so, or issuing amavis reload (as user clamav) generates the message about MIME::Base64 being unable to load and "exiting at line 157".
    launchd seems to be doing its job.
    I had a look at line 157 in amavisd - it comes right after the section where amavis tries to to load all the required perl modules. Everything I'm seeing is pointing to amavis not being able to open the required perl modules.
    I've checked and compared my perl installation and re-installed all the required modules from CPAN. The last thing I did before I gave up was copy over the entire working perl setup from my backup. Perl works, the MIME::Base64 module works ...
    perl -V looks like the below; the list of installed modules is way too long to post.

  • Mac OS X Combo Update 10.4.11

    I recently upgraded my iTunes to 7.6. The problem is my version of Mac OS X is 10.4.8. It will not allow iTunes to open without 10.4.9 or later. I trield to download the update Mac OS X Combo Update 10.4.11. and it says it cannot be installed on this computer. It also says PowerPC in paranthesis. Is there a seperate one for an intel based computer. I have dial up and it took me almost 20 hrs to download this 180MB file. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • Does reapplying 10.4.11 combo update negate the latest security updates?

    I've reapplied the 10.4.11 combo update in an attempt to trouble shoot some problems I've been having. My question is, "Does reapplying 10.4.11 combo update negate the latest security updates?" I've checked my computer using the "Software Update" option, and I'm given the message that I'm up to date. But that may be due to the fact that there's a receipt of the security update in my receipt's folder.

    Steve:
    If the Combo update was downloaded previous to the last security update being available it will not have included the security update. If the Combo update was downloaded after the security update was available, it will have included the latest security update. As new updates become available, the Combo update is updated so that it includes the latest updates. If you are concerned that the security update may not have been included in the Combo update, or you are sure that you downloaded the Combo update a while previous to the availability of the latest security update you can either:
    1. Download the stand alone security update and install it over what is already on your computer, or
    2. Download the current Combo update and install it.
    In either case, remember to Repair Disk Permissions in Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility before and after installation.

  • 10.4.9 Combo Update (Intel) Problem !!!!

    Hello people
    i have a 8 core mac pro and it came with pre installed 10.4.9 .
    I want to apply a 10.4.9 combo update as for Protools and the other softwares are requering for this clean update.
    I downloaded combo intel update , but when i try to make it , it keeps saying ;
    ''you cannot install mac osx update combine (intel) on this volume . This volume does not meet the requirements for this update''
    I really dont understand it . Any one knows the solution ???
    Thanks in advance .

    You can't install the 10.4.9 combo update because you
    are already at 10.4.9
    Normally, you should be able to run a combo updater with the same OS version number as the currently installed OS version as many times as you wish (assuming it is for the same type of hardware, PPC or Intel, of course).
    The exception is when the combo updater is older than the actual version of the OS installed on the Mac. This can happen because Apple occasionally releases new models that require new extensions to function. The version of the OS supplied with those models is a new build including those extensions. The previously released updater does not include those new extensions & thus cannot install that build of the OS, so you get the error message.

  • Mac OS combo update - any probs for other macbk air users??

    Hi, the recent update doesnt enable diskdrive sharing?
    Is it an upgrade from mac os x 10.5.2, OR?
    I'm a new macbk user, just barely 3 days old. One of the first things I got prompted was a software update for Mac OS combo and I did. Thot this would replace having to install using the cd-roms. Now when I want to install windows vista via bootcamp, I cant - cos I realise that I dont have the function to share disj, and I dont own one external diskdrive yet - thot I could do without...
    help...?
    tx for reading this
    cheers

    a clean install and rebuild. is an exercise in futility. Apparently, you mucked things up. Boot with the disc that came with the MBA, follow the steps in your Everything Mac booklet to restore to factory condition, and on first boot use the Setup Assistant to migrate from the other MBA. Then, run Software Update.
