Re-Uploading RSS feed problem

Hi
I uploaded our RSS feed (from podomatic) to itunes and it was all working OK but our picture wasn't showing up so I deleted the podcast from itunes. I uploaded the mix again to podomatic with the picture all working ok, got our RSS feed and have now tried to upload it again to itunes. I uploaded it over a week ago and there is still no email from ituns about it being published. I have tried a few times from 2 different itunes account and still no word from itunes about them receiving it.
I am new to podcasting so if anyone could help me it would be much appreciated!
Cheers

• Mail RSS Feed Problem

Hello, I've got a problem with my RSS feeds in Mail and it's driving me nuts. I had a number of feeds which were all working properly and suddenly my craigslist feeds stopped. All previous and new feeds still work but the craigslist feeds give me the error "There was an error updating the RSS feed “santabarbara.craigslist.org” - The requested URL was not found on this server."
I thought it might be a problem with craigslist but their feed works fine in my Firefox Live Bookmarks. It only appears to not be working in Mail. It was around the time of the 10.6.4 update but I can't be certain. I'm thinking it could be some sort of cache issue for just that site but don't know how to check.
One of the feeds is http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/med/index.rss
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Rob

When you say you tried Safari & Firefox to read feeds from CraigsList, do you mean just loading the RSS URL's (e.g. http://santabarbara.craigslist.org/med/index.rss ) into the browser directly? For myself, CraigsList RSS feeds don't load in Safari 5 either but it does seem to work via Firefox 3.6.3. I bet this might have been the WebKit (Safari 5) update that broke something.
And yes, my CraigsList RSS feeds broke in Apple Mail too (which is what brought me here). I filed a Radar bug ( rdar://problem/8161076 ) to alert Apple internal people.

• Iweb RSS feed problem

I just posted my first site with iWeb and on my home page I want to use the RSS widget to display spinets from my blog page on the same site. I have published the site to my FTP host and now the site is live. (www.thezumbacrew.com) Now that it is live, I thought I could find the RSS feed of my blog and add it to my home page RSS widget and republish. Not the case. When I go back into to iWeb to add the RSS feed it says "The feed source cannot be reached, Try again later."
I know the RSS feed from my blog works because it shows up fine in Google Reader.
Any ideas?

You have an & symbol in the URL which may be causing the problem as it is replaced by %26 by the browser....
feed://www.thezumbacrew.com/TheZumba_Crew/News_%26Events/rss.xml
Special symbols are a NO in URLS in general. Try using "News-and-Events" as hyphens are more easily seen in URLs that are underscored.

• OTN RSS feed problem

I am having trouble with OTN's RSS feed. The URL given for individual items cannot be recognized. For example, for the item "Download Openworld 2003 presentation...", the URL given is "blank/ow2003/". My RSS reader fails to recognize the URL. I suspect that the URL given should be in full form instead of relative form.

Robert...we are aware of this problem and are working to have it resolved ASAP.

• Solved RSS feed problem

My Rss feed stopped working in the last 30 days. I checked the mail preferences, RSS, reader. It was set to Safari, not mail. I checked mail. Closed the program and reopened. When reopened the RSS feeds were there in my mailbox! I did not change to Safari, I'm thinking a software update changed the default to Safari?

Try fixing up the validation issues...
http://www.feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stereogol.com%2Faudi o%2Fwimpy_podcast.php
Not promising it will help, but it's worth a shot.

• RSS feed problem on 3.1 (525.13)

I've noticed that on any page that has an RSS feed available, I get a response like this:
Safari can’t open the page “feed://images.apple.com/main/rss/hotnews/hotnews.rss”. The error was: “unknown error” (CFURLErrorDomain:303)
Including Apple's own Safari Start Page. You name it, I get that. That is also including using the latest Webkit.
I've gotta have my RSS feeds, so I guess I'll downgrade to the Public Beta.

Delete the Webkit folder while Safari is not running. Restart the browser, and it worked fine. Starting with the feed from the Apple Start Page.

• RSS Feed Problem with RDF files

Hi everyone,
I created a RSS feed like it is described in this weblog: Implementing A RSS Feed Reader In The Portal
Some RSS URLs work perfectly some don't work.
An example are RSS feeds like http://www.heise.de/newsticker/heise.rdf
Are .rdf files different from other RSS feeds?
How can I reference them from the portal?
Thanks,
Olaf

HI Keith,
Go to ~/LIbrary/Preferences and move the com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist file to the Trash then relaunch Safari.
See if that makes a difference. If not, from the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache. Relaunch Safari.

• RSS feed problem

I use iweb '08 using a personal domain name doggiedaycare-online.co.uk hosted by mobileme.
The website works well and I added a blog yesterday.
However the existing RSS subscribe button already on the blog page and the added photocast subscribe button are not working. When I try to use them on my published website, the response is ' page not found'.
When I hover over the RSS button in my published website the address is http://doggiedaycare-online.co.uk/Site/Barks&blethers/rss.xml
Any advice on how to make these feeds subscribable would be wonderful.

The feed seems OK to me and goes to -
feed://www.doggiedaycare-online.co.uk/Site/Barks%26blethers/rss.xml
Try emptying your browser cache or test in another browser.
When you are naming pages, or anything else whose name appears in a URL - like files, avoid the use of special symbols like "&". These will prevent URLs from working under some circumstances.
Rename your Blog page to "Barks-and-Blethers" and things should work better for you. Hyphens are better than underscores in URLs.

• Office 365 update eats RSS feeds and my Calendar

I have a long ramble:http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1048057-outlook-calendar-disappeared-overnight-office-updates-maybe-coincidence
where I am trying to work out what happened and then saw this:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_365hp-outlook/outlook-rss-feed-problem-after-last-office-365/073b5c31-3015-4386-a6d8-36e7747d92f0
which leads me to believe it isn't me going made, trigger finger...., but a borked Office update.
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

However, when I uploaded
only the blog folder and its contents, it did not
appear on my site.
I see the last entry as May 10, so that's the old one right?
My guess would be that you did not actually upload the new blog folder. Depending on how you have things organized, you may still have your old one there somewhere, and you may have selected it by mistake with your ftp program.
I would double-check the Blog folder on your drive to make sure it has been updated, and that this is the folder you have tried to upload.
Does publishing to the folder in itself change the
entire structure so that the whole site has to be
FTP'ed up again?
No.

• Problem with validating my RSS Feed

Hi,
Been trying to submit my podcasts to iTunes but got a problem as it keeps coming up saying 'We had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed'.
My feed is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/MarkandNinashow and when i check it on feedvalidator.org it says the following;
Recommendations
This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.
line 15, column 0: description should not contain iframe tag (17 occurrences) [help]
<itunes:category text="Comedy" />

Could someone please help me with this as i have no idea what this all means.
would appreciate any help.
Many thanks,
Mark Evans

Hi
Thanks for this. I'm new to this as when it was done before, someone else did it for me and I have no contact with them now.
Originally our interviews etc were uploaded to soundcloud and then I used Google Feedburner for RSS feed then submitted to iTunes the feedburner link and that was it - iTunes would automatically update.
But our station has now been told we must use Mixcloud for licensing and copyright reasons. So all I did was use an RSS feed converter for mixcloud as is is what was suggested. I then used this generated link on Feedburner then used feedburner link for iTunes - well I tried.
Hope the above makes sense. Was this correct thing to do? Or is it a mixcloud problem?
I'm not very technical so a lot of this talk in your response was foreign to me.
Are you able to help?
Many thanks for your time.
Mark

• I have read up, and am still having problems with RSS Feed

Greetings Everyone.
I really need some help with my RSS feed before I go insane. I would like to think I know what I am doing, but obviously there is some little (or big!) step I am overlooking.
Ok here is my site: www.drewernst.com it is hosted by asmallorange.com
My pocast is at www.drewenst.com/podcast
This is the rss feed iWeb generated: feed://www.drewernst.com/podcast/The%20Jeff%20and%20Drew%20Podcast/rss.xml
Now, from everything I have read so far - it seems that as long as you get the URL right when you are publishing to a folder, iWeb should do the rest. Also, it is important to put the whole folder containing your podcast in your root web folder otherwise it breaks the feed. Both of these things I have done. (obviously not correctly, or it would be working!)
I read Many tutorials and topics I could find about this, but it still doesn't seem to work for me. Apple suggests taking the RSS feed an pasting it into itunes under Advanced menu "subscribe to podcast" to make sure your feed is valid before submitting to itunes.
When I do this, I get an message saying "there was a problem downloading... An unknown error occurred (-50).
I tried using a feed validator and it came back with so many errors. I just don't know that much about RSS, but i have been working on this for about a month and it's driving me crazy. No one I have asked at the apple store has been any more helpful than to suggest I just buy a .mac account and do it from there(honestly the nerve. wink.) I don't need .mac, I have my own website.
Thanks in advance.
Mr. Rss Crazy,
Drew
Oh, I tried to be as detailed as possible but if I left anything important out, please just ask...I will be watching this like a hawk.
iMac 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo Mac OS X (10.4.8)

So, my web-host said that it's a problem with the RSS feed, not there hosting.
They pointed me to "Feed Validator" which I looked at before. I have a lot of errors.
http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.drewernst.com%2Fpodcast% 2FThe%2520Jeff%2520and%2520Drew%2520Podcast%2Frss.xml
Shouldn't Garageband and iWeb have taken care of these errors. I don't even know how I would correct them. I thought this was supposed to be a 1-2-3 process, like the documentation of both programs said.
Sorry if I sound sarcastic, I am just frustrated.

• Rss feed folder won't upload in iweb

I know that you cannot have a space in the name of a file that is used in your website because it won't upload. So instead you need to use a _ or just make the file name one word like "picofme" instead of "pic of me". I used the included RSS widget to put my blog into my iweb website. It displays fine in iweb. I published the site to a folder so that i could upload it to my site (hosted by yahoo) via Cyberduck or Filezilla. Everything uploads expet for the RSS blog widget. The space where the feed should appear is blank on my published site. As I'm uploading my site files everything uploads except for these errors:
Scripts/Widgets/RSS Feed/arrow-link.png: No such file or directory.
Scripts/Widgets/RSS Feed/error-glyph.png: No such file or directory.
Scripts/Widgets/RSS Feed/Icon.png: No such file or directory.
blackoutrecordings/Scripts/Widgets/RSS Feed/localizedStrings.js: No such file or directory.
/Scripts/Widgets/RSS Feed/RSS-placeholder-default.png: No such file or directory.
It all seems to be related to the RSS Feed folder. How can i fix this? I tried renaming the folder before i uploaded and it didn't help either.
thanks you!

I just used the code they gave me & plugged it into a HTML Snippet

• Problem with RSS feeds in AppleMail

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. I have several RSS feeds that come in through AppleMail. Every so often, it stops receiving all of the feeds (I get an explanation point next to the the RSS header). After a day or so, it will start receiving feeds again. I have no problem getting e-mails... just my RSS feeds. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

I have just experienced the same problem with RSS feeds through AppleMail. A couple of days ago (just after I had upgraded to Aperture 3 - not sure if that's relevant) the exclamation mark appeared next to all the Mailboxes for my RSS feeds, and has not disappeared. If I click on the exclamation mark I get the message "there was an error updating the RSS feed 'Apple Hot News'. The RSS feed is temporarily unavailable because an internal error occurred".
I have tried shutting down, and deleting the RSS plist - with no effect.
Other details - the problem exists on a MacBook Pro, running Sno (v 10.6.2 - all updates applied) and Apple Mail v4.2. I can send / receive regular email. I also have an iMac (also running Sno 10.6.2 and Apple Mail v4.2) - RSS feeds work fine on this machine. Both machines use the same wireless broadband router.
Grateful for any help. Thanks

• Problem submitting RSS feed

I am trying to launch my podcast on iTunes, and I'm using a Soundcloud-generated RSS feed. But I keep getting an error message when I sumit it to iTunes: Invalid XML: Error on line 191:The reference to entity "a" must end with the ';' delimeter
The URL of the feed is http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:18637591/sounds.rss
I cannot understand how to fix this, and when I try to validate the feed, everything seems to be fine: http://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Ffeeds.soundcloud.com%2Fu sers%2Fsoundcloud%3Ausers%3A18637591%2Fs…
Does anybody understand what is the reason behind this error?

The URL you give redirects to http://utenfilter.net/feed/ when submitted to a feed validator, but when viewed in a browser it redirects to http://utenfilter.net/ which is a web page. When subscribing the URL you gave manually to iTunes the feed comes up empty but it works with http://utenfilter.net/feed/
Evidently the Store, like the iTunes application, is reading the web page version - this does have more than 191 lines and the coding on line 191 has an 'a' variable so that's evidently the error they are reporting. The real feed doesn't have as many as 191 lines.
You need to submit http://utenfilter.net/feed/ to the Store; the URL you initially gave is not useful (all these redirects are a quick way of causing problems).

• Opening links in a RSS feed using the Open in New Tab/Window command doesn't work in FF4. It worked perfectly in FF 3.6. What seems to be the problem?

I have set up a number of RSS feeds to open in folders underneath the search/address bar in Firefox. I use them mainly to follow news updates from newspaper websites etc. After installing FF4, the opening of links contained in those folders (lists of links) using right-click and selecting the Open in New Tab command stopped working. There is no response whatsoever - as if I didn't click the command.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
