Aslo some info about what will use your allowance up.
Why is my broadband usage so high?
10Gb is soon going to be used up if you watch streaming media.

  • How to remove the cpu usage limit?

I have to run a C program on terminal as fast as possible. However, there seems to be a cpu usage limit for the terminal, the program supose to run around 15 seconds on a linux machine with similar configuration where cpu usage is at 85-95%. But, it runs one minute on my macbook pro with cpu usage less than 15%. Finally, my question is, how do I utilize all of the 85% idle cpu for this program or at least most of the idle cpu?

Per se, MacOS X does not impose any CPU usage limits other than those from the processor scheduling priorities. Standard Unix scheduling priorities go from -20 to +20, with the default being 0. If you have administrator privileges, you increase your process' priority (a more negative value) with the nice or renice commands. See their man pages. On a four-core 15" or 17" MBP, even setting max -20 priority should not impact the rest of the system too much.

  • 10Gb monthly usage limit - install a third party m...

    Hi,
I was forced to change over to BT back in January after having been with Tiscali Unlimited for over 5 years (who were never great but were taken over by the dreaded TalkTalk - who promised they weren't going to increase subscription rates and then promptly increased subscription rates by almost 33%! unless you gave in to blackmail and gave them your phone calls as well - and I never respond well to that kind of strong arm bullying). (As I understand it there was a mass exodus away from TalkTalk)
My rural exchange is not unbundled, which means that every supplier but BT (and previously Tiscali), adds a whacking great surcharge because the service is "out of area".  When I wanted to get shut of Tiscali it turned into quite a long convoluted nightmare trying to find a reasonably priced ISP, I had to settle for the BT 10Gb a month thing, not ideal but, any port in a storm...
Anyway, I just received a warning email from BT saying I have used over 7Gb in May (?) and if I go over I'll be charged £1 per Gb.  The email is pretty vague, and when I go looking on the website for concrete information, I'm really struggling to find anything in the sprawling mess.  I couldn't find when my month starts and ends??, couldn't find anything relating to actual usage of BB, and am told by BT I should install a third party meter to keep track - that I may want to "try a few" before I settle on one.
Back in Jan, when I signed up to BT, I went to the BTYahoo site to set up some email addresses, in doing so I got a trojan attack which was picked up by my antivirus, then every time I visited BTYahoo I get reinfected.  It turned out that parts of this 'third party' site where I am forced to go to set up my emails, are poxed up with the GoogleRedirect virus, and once you're infected you're in real trouble and I had no end of problems after that.
To cut a long story short, I reported all this to BT who never even replied! A delightful welcome to BT Broadband.
I am always staggered by how lax the internet 'cess-pit' is and people are too trusting, if you download and install ANY .exe file onto your computer, you have no way of knowing what it's really up to, in other words it could easily be keeping track of your movements, sucking data out, putting data in, accessing files, etc etc., the possibilities are both easy and endless if you know what you're doing.  It is difficult enough trying to keep yourself secure on the net without being told by your ISP to download who knows what into your computer for something they should be providing as a matter of course as they are already collecting the figures???  It's ridiculous, if you are going to impose a usage limit then you should make the figures readily accessible by the user, there's no excuse.  How else is the customer expected to keep track and modify usage accordingly??
Can anyone tell me please - is it possible to access your usage figures? and if so how? - how do you find out when your 'usage' period begins and ends?  and exactly what is the period - is it 28 days? per calendar month?
Any concrete info gratefully received as I'm about ready to blow a gasket!

  • FUP Charge but not over usage limit

    Hi,
I received an email today informing i have 'spent more than £10 on my account since my last bill' so i decided to check what the hell was going on as i have no idea what this could be.
So i look at my phone charges and they are worth £4.24, i thne checked my broadband usage monitor and its not over the 40gb limit, its under half way. However on my account it says there is a £20 FUP charge for 20gb!
How can there be a £20 charge this month when i havent gone over, i paid last months bill in full so can someone please tell me whats going on?
The last time a warning about usage was sent out it was on the 22/3/13 and informed me of a charge that was paid on a previous bill, so why is there a FUP charge now for 20gb shortly after i paid my bill when i have not gone over my usage limit since?

    NoX81 wrote:
Current usage is irrelevant? Then what is the point of it?
Im basing this off of billing cycle dates that i've paid for and what i've used since.
Ok my previous billing cycle runs from 19/2 to the 18/3 - i paid the bill for that period on the 19/3
My billing area says: usage since March 19th (the date i payed my last bill) £24.24 (£20 of it is a FUP charge)
Yet with thre FUP charge it says:
    All usage from 01 Mar 13 to 12 Apr 13: £20.000
I paid a bill that covered up to the 18/3 and since then have not gone over usage so why is there a charge for fair usage now?
I'll contact support but if anyone has a good reason for this i'd like to hear it.
the current usage is irrelevant for the current charge a usage is calendar months so from 1st April whereas the charge you have incurred will related to the last usage period which ended on 31 March
usage is calendar months but your billing period is as you have said totally different

  • BB Usage limit

I received email message that I am about to exceed my BB usage limit. This never happened in 10 years with AOL with a basic service - even when I had other computers in the house - student/guest - tapped in by remote. How can I limit usage time without inconvenience? Shut down my pc instead of hibernate, etc? Limit usage by other pcs?
Also my bb connection disconnects at least once a day. I have to unplug from energy source or reset the Home Hub. What a pain. Again, I never experienced this problem with AOL. I am beginning to regret my decision to change to BT....
    Help please!

    Hi,
What option did you take out with BT and how much where you paying for AOL??
Also how many devices access the internet??
How long have you been with BT Broadband??
Did you sign up just for BT Vision??? Are you mad???
How far away are you from the exchange??
These are the sort of questions i ask people before they sign up to BT Broadband, I would never recommend Option 1, you can easily get into problems with it's miserable 10GB limit, what a waste of money.  Also i look at how far i am away from the exchange, the further away, the slower the ADSL connection will be.  If i was far away from the exchange i would have stuck with AOL which would have offered me 2 meg at about £15 pcm.
Did you join BT for BT Vision?  Why i ask?  Stay with your current supplier and purchase a PVR from a local electrical retailer - you can now get freeview hd boxes from £200!! cheaper than BT's contract (taking into consideration of Option 3 at about £25 pcm and £10 line rental and average £15 pcm for bt vision packages - im sure you can do the maths)
I am having a rant really at BT because they have provided YOU a product that does not match your needs - bit like buying something from Tesco that does not match the description of what you want, you should be able to return it, cancel it, move on!

  • Not happy having switched to BT re: usage limit

We have recently switched to BT with a phone & BB package - Broadband and weekend and evening calls £13 PM
Firstly I did not realise that there was a 10gb monthly limit and with our previous ISP it was unlimited. So we have received and email in our first month to say we have used 24 gb!!!!!
We were flumoxed as to how we have done this. It then occurred to me that it may be that I work from home and connect to my work network via VPN. Checked with Bt and this was indeed what was causing the high usage.
So we decided we would have to go up to More Broadband and Calls for £18pm. This gives us a 40 gb allowance, perfect.
My husband rang BT to get this changed and they said that we can't downgrade our call package so our only option would be to go for the £28 pm package, which is unlimited on everything.
This is ridiculous. We move to BT to try and save some money an it has backfired spectacularly!!
Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Our usage so far this month is over 10gb again and we'e going to be charged.

All packages are advertised with there download limits I cannot see how you did not know you had a 10gb limit i would suggest you phone again and say you want option 2 broadband with weekend and evening calls there should be no problem in them doing that

  • S.o.s. how to set a memory usage limit in flash cs4?

flash is using 1 200 000 k. and i cant work in this situation. i know that i can limit the usage of memory in ps cs4. but i dont know how i do it in flash. is there a way of limiting the memory usage or making flash use memory as much as this?

    Thats all my poblems!!!
I used File Monitors from Sysinternals and I see, that Flash operated with C:\xalan\xercesImpl.jar (on my system), and can't find C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS4\META-INF\services\org.apache.xerces.xni.parser.XMLParserConfiguration  and others...
I temporary remove xalan - well - thats all - CS4 successfully compile, test, check codes !!!
    1) Adobe CS4 used Xerces Apache (and configurated himself, without us)
    2) Use Sysinternals to detect other file-problems

    Thank you,

When my account details come up in "My BT" I'll check but I'm pretty sure the all the BT Vision packages are Option 2

  • Broadband usage limit and identifying non-authoris...

    Hello
I have read various threads on the topic of usage limits and I am confused.  We have been with BT for 2 months and each month have received a "usage nearing limit" email (we are on option 1 with 10Gb limit)  When we signed up with BT we described our typical usage and the salesman assured us that 10Mb was plenty for our usage - we don't do gaming, watch movies, just general internet surfing - sending the odd excel or word file to and from work, occasional you-tube and iplayer use - maybe 2 hours a week max.  These warning emails have made me wonder
    a) which of 3 possible machines in our house is racking up the most usage - when, which sites?
    b) might someone else (we live on an estate) be using our wireless broadband connection without us knowing?
I am considering downloading a usage monitor but am a bit concerned about virus infection.
If anyone out there can explain what to do in a non-techy way I would appreciate it - I am not technically aware!
    Thanks
    Jac in Ciren

Without putting a meter on your machines you wont acutally know which is using more usage. However having been running on a mobile broadband dongle for a couple of weeks now I can easily say that 1-2 hours of Iplayer (depending on quality viewed) could be between 400MB and 2GB. On top of that I've noticed that youtube videos seem to rack up usage so if anything I would say it was the occasional youtube that is the cause of your usage warnings.
One way you might be able to check if anyone is leeching your connection is to go to your homehub page 192.168.1.254 then somewhere on there (as I say im not on HH connection myself atm) in settings devices (might be in advanced settings) there should be a list/diagram of all the things that have connected to your homehub should be 3 headings, Wired, Wireless, Phones (or similar) Under wired you should see a list of your 3 machines along with anything else you wire to your HH, in the wireless section (providing you dont use it) if there is a device name there, chances are someone has accessed your wireless.
Im not 100% but that might help

  • Usage limit

Hi, I've been with BT for about 6months now and never had a problem with it until now.
I received an email on Monday saying I'd used over 7GB of my 10GB allowance for the month. Having checked it today it now says i've used 9.3GB! I've maybe watched one of two videos on youtube, but nothing that I don't normally do every month and I've never had this happen before. Could something be eating away at my allowance? I phoned them up TWICE to try and find out what has caused this but all they kept saying was it was an automated system so they couldn't tell me what was causing it. I read that others had had a similar problem? What did you do/how should I go about correcting this error? Any help would be greatly appreciated =) Thanks

    Hi.
Do you use anything like facebook ? Facebook games can use pretty much up to 400MB a day for various things including games. Do you use iPlayer type access or spotify ?
Don't forget uploads are also included in the usage figures. For my personal experience, the online meter pretty much matches with my own records.
There are a few folk reporting seemingly unusually high figures, one or two definitely look extremely dodgy and probably wrong. There are more though that are reporting higher figures in the past month or so, either that's because they have found these forums to query it or something else is happening.
However you do need to perhaps take stock of what you may actually be using. It's all too easy these days to forget how much things are actually using, and on a limited product this could prove a little extra costly. By one or two videos on youtube, do you really mean one or two dozen - perhaps HD ones ?
Do you have any other internet connections, like laptops, games consoles or mobiles ?
If you're using a PC, get something like Networx (free bandwidth monitor) and compare usage between that and the BT online one for a few days to see how they compare. (For more than one PC, you will need to add it to each machine).

    Hi.
Streaming movies can be very high usage, depending on quality and length. It could be up to 1GB per hour, or possibly more for HD content - so it is relatively easy to rack up usage.
There is no easy way to determine what sites are eating the usage, but there are various free usage meters that can be downloaded (e.g. for PC there is Networx). They can give a good indication of the usage for a particular machine.

    2Cool4School,
The fundamental business practice for a telecommunication vender is to recognize and acknowledge system related errors. In this case, Verizon is liabile for systems errors that disadvantages it customers. After speaking with several Verizon employees, including supervisors, the systematic flaw inherent with their web based services and its possible error ratio has not been acknowledged. Furthermore, nothing is absolute and it is possible that this error was not cause due to any fault of my own. Thus, Verizon should understand their accountability in the matter. I guarantee that Ivan Seidenberg is interested in learning about this matter which could turn into a potential turn class-action lawsuit.

  • Some questions about the limit of memory usage of Adobe flash player in different OS & Web Browser

    Hi Adobe experts,
I'm from HP, and now using Adobe flash player making some products about massive data displaying.
For my target, I need to show more than 200 K rows in client web browser, using AdvancedDataGrid.
And that may needs more than 200M to cache the data in Web browser memory space.
    So, my questions are:
Does there any memory usage limit in flash player?
Say, if we have 4G bytes of physical memory in machine, in Windows, how much can I use in flash player?
Also, if we have 4G bytes of physical memory in Linux, how much can I use in flash player?
Does it depends on the Web Browser?
Say, is there any difference between different web browsers?
If the limit exists, can we control the limit?
Say, can we define some parameters in the tag in web page to expand the limitation?
Or, can we try to control this limitation by the Flash player management which exists in the Windows Control Panel?
    Best Regards

    1. Yes. The Toolkit for CreateJS is an extra downloadable extension for Flash CS6. It will publish html and js files that will provide the animation instead of the swf that you would normally publish. The success or failure of the resulting javascript version of your animation is the result of working within the constraints of the toolkit. You are pretty much constrained to using the timeline in Flash for your animations. If you work only in Actionscript, then the output will be very disappointing.
    2. Edge outputs javascript, css, and html to give you an animation. The user interface allows you to design within the constraints of what Edge can do. You can preview and adjust and tweek your animation as you work. Edge is an html5 tool. It can create html5 animation. It is not a replacement for Flash. It is something that you can use instead of Flash to embed animation in html.
The problems and benefits of each are unique. Neither is a good substitute to learning javascript, css and html5. If you don't understand the code that is created from each of these tools, you can easily end up with huge, bloated, files that perform poorly. I'm very biased toward actually knowing what is going on. If I need to edit something, I want to be able to go into the code and make a change, not add an additional chunk of code to work around what was there. I don't use the timeline at all, and so nothing that I have will publish using CreateJS. Well, it will publish, but nothing happens because there is nothing on the timeline to translate.
You can download a trial of Flash CS6 and try the Toolkit for yourself. Edge is still in free preview, you can get a copy at http://labs.adobe.com and try it to see how it works.
Also, if you're not using the Greensock Animation Platform with Flash, have a look at that. It has recently been extended to provide Javascript analogues for most of the Libraries. http://www.greensock.com/

  • Ellipsis jetpack mismatch data usage with alerts

Ok, I have the ellipsis jetpack and for the past couple months I've had varying data usage issues...
This month, it mysteriously used more than 2 gb of data minimum without anything to my knowledge, being connected to it.
So I up the data and just dismiss it as the PlayStation 4 bring on and "the crew" coming out, since it may have updated content while I was sleeping for the other 9 gb.
But this morning, I have an email saying I've used 90% of my data allowance (of 20 gb). email time is 1:52 am, yet both the website and the jetpack show the data usage as of 6:18 am today 12/13 to be 15.3 gb (website says like 15.336).
This is frustrating to say the least, and really makes me like Verizon is trapping me into paying more money!
I also have family guard on the device and it's currently set to not allow more than 17 gb. It's been setup that way for probably a week now.
Also, before I upped the data cap from 10gb, I got two alert emails for each alert level, hours apart.
The first 50% was around probably 10 am, the second was late that night, after eight, I believe. Right around that same time, I got a 75% followed by 90, and later, another each of 75 & 90.
Imagine the frustration! Especially now that I'm paying an extra 4.99 a month to protect myself from going over the usage limit!
I was playing a ps4 game last night online (the crew), but didn't download anything outside of that, and watched a video or two on the net, both were short videos. All worked fine, and didn't have the email alert until this morning when I woke up.
Also: this is my first post, done from a tablet, so I'm sorry if it goes to wrong place
