Re: using UltraGuest in iWeb

Apologies, I realise that this subject must have been covered before, but as a newbie to web creation, I'm afraid I've not been able to understand the mechanics of introducing a guestbook into my website. I have registered with UltraGuest on a member's recommendation and obtained a link, which I know works. What I cannot seem to do, is to access this link neatly so that pressing a button saying “Guestbook" it accesses this link and takes you to the appropriate page. Has anybody used UltraGuest in this way and if so could they give me, a step-by-step process to get it to work? If not, can someone offer another suggestion as to how to get a guestbook onto my website.
Bill

Ethmoid,
'Copy and paste the code into an html snippet on the page of your website that you want the guestbook to appear on click Apply. In this way, the guestbook will be embedded into your site and visitors can sign it online.'
Sorry for being 'dense', but is the link inspector involved here. I simply cannot get it to work! I have done as you said, but all that happens is that the http ref. appears but does not act as a link. I understood that I was only to input the 'view' element, do I have to copy and paste, all of the code?
I am really looking to be able to add a button to the navigation bar, which when pressed, links to the UltraGuest link.
If you could give me a little more detail, or tell me where I am going wrong, I would be very grateful.

Using 10.6 iweb 3.04 . I make a small change on a page  , then choose publish changes , but seems to take hours and seems to want to publish the whole site , not just a small change?

Doing the following wouldn't hurt either:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Can I make an aperture slideshow and use it in iweb?

I need to know if I can make an aperture slideshow and use it in iweb (not making it a quicktime movie)? I don't want to use I photo (I know how to make one in Iphoto and put it in Iweb and I dont want to do this). (dont want a .mac gallery either) Please help. thank you!!!

Aperture slide shows are just for review. They can not be output. TBMK
Honestly, you've exhausted most of what iLife can do, and quicktime will probably be your output even if you go to Keynote to make your slide show.
But with Keynote you'll have more control over how the Quicktime is compressed.
Otherwise, you're looking at the expense AND the learning curve of Flash.
Maybe someone else will chime in with a 3rd party solution.

  • Is there a video tutorial for using cyberduck and iweb?

So, is there a video tutorial for using cyberduck and iweb to upload to a website? The written instructions on iweb are not specific enough.

Might be worth posting that in the iWeb forum.

  • Using 'Multisite for iWeb' and the new iWeb 09

I use multisite for iWeb by Clarkwood software to publish multiple sites I have designed with iWeb. Now that the NEW iWEB 09 has the essentially same ability (to upload/manage multiple iWeb sites) I was wondering if anyone else is using 'Multisite for iWeb' and has ran into any problems when upgrading?
    Thanks!
    -JKP

With the disastrous introduction of iWeb '08, I rebuilt all my websites on new, blank domain files.
I have 26 sites with each domain file in a separate folder. These are kept in a in a folder - iWeb - in a second dock.
I can launch any site with two mouse clicks - far quicker than launching Multisite or iWebsites.
I have dealt with many instances of domain file corruption in this forum and it doesn't seem to matter which method is used - splitting domain files, iWebsites or Multisite.
I followed the advice of Cyclosaurus and Suzanne of 11 Mystics and have had no problems at all.
I'm not throwing any accusations at any of the above methods of handling multiple domains - I'm just not prepared to risk using them.

  • How do I use webfonts with iWeb?

I have purchased some webfonts from MyFonts and followed their instructions, adding an HTML snippet with the required code.
When I view the site on a computer without the fonts installed it replaces the fonts with standard serif and non-serif fonts.
The webfonts are available on the root level of the server along with the provided CSS file that uses them. The HTML code
refers each page to this CSS file.
    Can anyone help?

Is there anyway I can use iWeb to publish a simple good-old-fashioned html document?
No. The whole purpose of iWeb is to enable people who don't know how to do what you did to publish websites anyway. All you need to do to "publish" your site is to put it on a server, either on .Mac via drag/drop or on something else via ftp.

  • Using DB in iweb site

    Hello,
I recently created a site using iweb, and I'm wondering if there is any way to use DB technology within the site. For example, can I have someone search for a topic using keywords, and have certain pages returned from one of my databases based on the words entered? I have not created any DBs yet, but once I figure out if this is possible I'd like to download the necessary apps to create a database, and allow it to be accessed by iweb. Think: something like imdb, where a person can enter an actor's name and all related pages are returned as options. Thanks!

  • Getting rid of white border around photos when using iphoto to iweb

    Hi there,
Am creating web pages in iweb and importing photos from iphoto. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the white border around my photos (image frame)? Hoping to enhance some of the templates with my own images. I also have photoshop elements and have been having the same problem there. Sure appreciate. Kim Strouble

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The link to the site is broken. There is a fix for some of the strange goings on since the MobileMe conversion. See Wyodor's post in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1605665&tstart=0. After applying the fix to iWeb I found I might have to republish a second time, occasionally a third and make sure I cleared my browser's cache.
If you're using Firefox 3 that's a different solution that can be found here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7486799#7486799
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Some fonts I use for my iWeb-made site are not properly displayed on other computer. How can I sort it out?

    Hello everybody.
I have made a website and I have noticed that some fonts and some background shapes are not correctly displayed on other computers (non Mac users).
Could you help me to sort out this problem?
    Thanks
    Andrea

It's not a browser issue per se either.
You see the Font because the font is your computer. The same font has to be on the computer of your visitor.
iWeb use a substitute font based on a font list it uses. If that substitute font is missing too, the browser chooses a similar font, which is not always the one you want.
You can force your font to display on a PC (but not with Internet Explorer) using a custom stylesheet with an embedded font. See it here :

  • Using movies on iWeb

I am still trying out .mac, seeing if it will work for me. I bought iLife 08, but found out that the new iMovie will not ruu on non-intel machines.
I see the demos that people can have these amazing videos on their site. I made a 2 minute movie and exported it "for web" in imovie. I dropped it into my iweb page and
    1) the 2 minute movie ended up being 4.2 mb.. Isn't there a way to get this smaller? I use Flash encoder for my other sites, but it seems like this would be more efficient.
    2) I try to hit the "play" button in quicktime, but the movie doesn't play in either Firefox or Safari, although I see it loading on the screen

Your link for browserweb.org gives me a blank page. If the PCs have Quicktime installed they should be able to view the movie. Also there's a lot more about an iWeb page that PCs running IE will have problems with.
Roddy has gathered a number of tips on making iWeb more compliant with IE.
"Basically, iWeb is way too sophisticated for Internet Explorer to handle.
You have to "build down" your site for the World's Worst Browser.
Use web safe fonts.
Don't convert text to graphics.
Optimize all your images.
Don't use drop shadows, reflections etc.
Keep your page file sizes down to a minimum.
Run your files through an optimizing application"
The site I've used is http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/. I don't know how accurate it is though.

  • Using Aperture and iWeb

Aperture has a de-luxe facility for making album pages and posting them in Mobile-me, using web journals, which include text and photos. However, you can not include links in them. So I have made an index page in iWeb which references my web journals.
It works, but it seems like a dumb system, and integration ought to be possible. The web journals do not appear in iDisk, but the index page does.
Aperture can export its web journals, but I can not find a way to get them into iWeb.
Has anyone worked through this one?
For ref my index page is at http://web.me.com/robneave99/RobsPhotography/MainPage.html

Where on your iDisk is the index file that Aperture created? Is it in the iDisk/Web/Sites folder? If so try the following link in your browser: http://web.me.com/YourMME_AccountName/index.html and see what you get.

You might find that your ISP offers you a bit of web hosting as part of your package...
As for free, I have looked around and tried a couple, but decided that there is no such thing as a free lunch! I use .Mac!

  • Using DISQUS in iWeb

    Hello,
*I want to add the Disqus system to my iWeb website in time for the 2nd season of my webradio show called Gatinorama.*
*I opened my account at Disqus and tried a test page (see link at http://www.gatinorama.com/GATINORAMA/%C3%A9pisodes/Entr%C3%A9es/2010/2/1%C3%89pisode_N%C2%B00____%C3%87a_fait_trop_mal_der%C3%AAver.html).*
    *I have a few issues:*
*1-When getting the code from Disqus, I am asked to change the "disqus_shortname". I was also given to option to add a "disqus_identifier" and a "disqus_url".*
*I tried adding the code in a snippet and changing all three coding options, but iWeb refused to publish it.*
*If i add only the shortname, then I get the Disqus logo in iWeb and the publication works.*
*2-After publication however, I have the following problems:*
*-The font is something like 'Times New Roman' --not the font I see in other sites.*
*-The snippet seems to be too small for some of the dialog bubbles. For example, go to my page and try the 'like' button. It will be partially invisible. It is not a big deal, but it is more problematic when I am trying to use my administrator options.*
*-Is there a way to get a smaller font size ?*
    *Many thanks,*
    s.

Coppermine is a gallery based on PHP and SQL. Coppermine is installed separately on the server at GoDaddy or local (MAMP). You can easy install Coppermine at GoDaddy (Go Daddy Hosting Connection) Quick-Install. When it's up and running, you can use an iFrame in a html-snippet, with the url towards the Coppermine Gallery, to show the gallery in iWeb. Almost all photogalleries, (with upload features for your friends), are using a database like MySQL.
The downloaded Coppermine files aren't usable without installing them on a webserver.

  • Email HTML newsletter using a MAc, iweb? Pages? or ????

    Really need some assistance.
I need to design a HTML newsletter. I've set one up in Pages, however when I save to html the format scrambles.
If I transfer this to PDF or a Jpeg I lose the ability for my readers to click on the hyperlnks to direct them to my website
so I need to use a tool that is as easy to use.
I've tryed iweb, but when I come to use it in the email editor again the pictures disappear or take an age when I try sending, to the degree that I need to cancel the transfer.
How can i create the html email and send it without losing the formatting.

Having pained over this myself, the program is that, you need to use ABSOLUTE LINKS in your HTML code, not RELATIVE. RELATIVE is what iweb is generating, so you actually have to hand code it so the links to images and such point to the ABSOLUTE link. So, instead of, say, an image linking to just: /myprojectfiles/images/test.png, it would need to read http://www.mydomain.com/images.test.png.
It will work if you change your links like that. I just created a page in iweb, and saw that there are about 6 image files, so all those 6 would need to be changed to ABSOLUTE links. I sent it off without touching it, via the Safari Mail Contents of This Page feature, from Apple Mail. Sure enough, no images were displayed. This implies something important: you have to have your files loaded to a server for it to work. That is to say, if you want your HTML emails to display all images, which is essentially the bread and butter of webpages, you need to do 2 things: 1. Load files to server 2. Change all image links to their ABSOLUTE location.
