Re: Video Card specifications

Good Day to everyone!
My search goes on for my ultimate video editing computer and my quest has lead me to the specifications of my videocard.
I was wondering if the ATI HD4670 DD3 1GB 128 bit is enough for my video editing needs?
Also since my motherboard is equipped with crossfire Im planning to add another HD4670.
My question is, would that be good enough? Coz ive been reading about GPU cards lately and maybe I should just save for it instead of buying another ATI HD4670.
Hope you guys can help me out.
Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. Im still wondering though why I still get problems importing my clips to cs4. My computer specs, I believe, is more than enough for the minimum requirements required by the program (i7-930, 4GB DDR3 RAM, (1) 320GB and (1) TB 7200RPM SATA Drives, ATI 4670 VC). and I already converted my Xacti1010 clips to HD avi/mov/mp4 even avchd as suggested by Mr. Milaard on my previous post http://forums.adobe.com/thread/682651?tstart=0.
Side question though, does the proper sequence selection affect the importing of files to cs4?
Thank you and hope to learn more from you guys.

  • Do I need a specific Mac Pro video card or will any do?

Hi, I had a quick question. I'm looking at purchasing a 2010 8-core Mac Pro and was wondering about the video card. Is there a specific video card needed for the Mac Pro or can I purchase just a typical ATI 5870 from ebay and install that? Is there really a difference between a PC graphic cards and a Mac graphics card?

Stick to the Apple cards. There is an important difference, and that is non-Apple cards do not work until the startup sequence is completed unless you use them on VGA. That means you cannot use any normal startup keyboard shortcuts unless the card is in VGA mode. This is because non-Apple cards do not have the Apple bootable ROM.
Apple sells the 5870 directly on their website. And, there's nothing wrong with the 5770 card that comes with the Mac Pro. Be sure you really need the performance of the 5870 before spending the extra money for it.

  • Have a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 w Geforce 6200 Video card.  Need to replace. Do I need a mac specific, or will a PC version work?

I need a Geforce 6200 Video card. The present card is 'flaky', causing ocaisional freezes on startup.  Does the replacement have to be mac specific, or will a PC version work?

A replacement card MUST be Mac specific unless you have the know how to hack the ROM to a Mac ROM (flash in a PC first).

  • New Member / Video Card Choice Question

New CS4 Production Premium User Here.
I am building a computer system specifically for Video Editing and production for use with Premier CS4 & Sony Vegas.. Have been doing my usual amount of Over Research here and other places but have a series of issues I am having a little trouble coming to grips with.
I have been into computer editing game for a long time but strictly in the Audio Recording /Mixing area /..
Video is a new interest which has me hooked / Im also a Gear Junkie so I have to watch it. 
I will probably be back with a couple more topics but to keep this thread simple /
My first post question is the topic of Video cards: Adobes Hardware compatibility list seems a little out dated. ?
The system does not have to be an ultimate gaming rig as I am not into that / just SD & HD Video editing & 3d effects.. I need a card which will do what is needed / works well with Premier CS4 / Is not too loud fan wise / can run 24/5 and not overheat.
    I also will need the ability to monitor on a HD TV with a good sound monitoring system / Midas / Bryston / Dynaudio etc;
I was considering either of the following / from lowest price to highest.
    ASUS GeForce 9600GT Silent 650MHZ 512MB 1.8GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out
    ASUS GeForce 9800GT Matrix 612MHZ 512MB 1.8GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out
    ASUS GeForce 9800GTX+ Dk 740MHZ 512MB 2.3GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out
    Questions:
    Is a 512mb card sufficient?
Will all of the above do what is needed for my purpose?
What about noise of heat issues.
My system could be running close to 24/5 at times.
Have not made a final decision on all components but will probably basically start of like this.
    Vista 64 Bit/OS
    Core I7 940
Asus Rampage 2 Extreme or a plain P6T
Antec 1200 Case / For now I will leave out the hard drives and other things on my list.
My builder suggests to stick with ASUS Video Cards because he has the fastest warranty replacement service on his end for ASUS products / plus I am a total ASUS Motherboard guy with years satisfied experiences.. (in Audio setups).
Any feedback or comments on the above will be appreciated.
    Thanks / Orion

    Thanks Members for the Feedback:
I am trying to stick just to the Video Card Issues so the topic does not get all over the map / Raid issues have already been researched & I might have a question about that later in another thread.
Witha the video card issue I am just trying to see if I can get a reply which the majority of users agree upon / not an easy task & that is were my confused state of topic started.
    b Keith
It seems what you have said about QUADRO cards is the most agreed upon overall from my last three months of research at various locations / The cost is extreme for these cards & I was just trying to determime if I realy needed to go that far : >$2,000.00 and up.
    just for the Graphics card..
Perhaps I should start of with one of the cards I first mentioned which are dirt cheep compared to the Quadro series and replace it when I have arrived at the point where my shills are beyond my hardware limitations.
    b Charles & Jim.
Thanks for the reference to the . >ASUS GeForce 9800GTX+ Dk 740MHZ 512MB 2.3GHZ DDR3< I was thinking this might be the best to start with / except for the reported could be problems of / Noise / card size and Heat issues if running 24/5?
Other issues you have stated also seem to be agreed upon from mny sources as well / which is why I am considering perhaps not going Raid "o" from the start / perhaps Raid 5.. / or No Raid until I see If realy need it for my own personal use level.
b conclusion to this point in the game:
Looks like If I do a top notch system following all the higher end recomendations it will cost me over $10,000.00 (if I include a capture card / raid card (Areca 1220 or 1240(don't want to get into that topic just yet)& all the extras... This is about double the investment I had planned as this is basically a serious hobby not a business venture. Plus we have not included another $6,000.00 for a half decent peosumer HD camera with a few extras. I was trying to keep the entire setup to 8 to 10 grand total.. Not including the software / so this looks like wishfull thinking at best / Ho Ho.
b remember / unfortunately my pricing reflects Canadian $$ which includes a 25% hike in pricing because our government wants the loonie (Good Name) low valued so businesses can export our products at built in 25% Sale Pricing.
Perhaps,we wont get into that topic/please, but I just couldn't resist / when I start thinking about government issues (anywhere in this world) I tend to go off the deep end as part of why I am going into this video thing is to document the destruction of our environment & the entire democratic process, which is a total farce in my neck of the woods. Nuff Said..
Again Thanks for the input and I will keep watching and perhaps cover another topic later / my goal is to place an order for a build within the next 10 days of so.

  • Video capture driver for MSI GeForce 2 Pro video card

    Hi,
I am in need of the nVidia WDM video capture driver for my Geforce 2 Pro video card. Model #M-8831. I was able to download it from the MSI/TW website over a year ago just fine. My computer crashed from a game bug a couple of months ago and MSI/TW does not list the capture driver I need any longer. I did email the company asking for help with no response back yet (after 2 weeks). You people may be my last hope.
I do have the cd that came with the video card, but I've never been able to install the capture driver from it. There is a button to install it, but it never gets loaded. I've tried browsing the cd and also tried installing it using the windows wizards with zero results. My only successful install was from the MSI home website.
If you need more information, please let me know.

  • New video card, whats needed?

    hi,
i have a g4 mirror door system and i need to upgrade the video card so i can run motion. I currently have an ATI RV250 with 64mb vram and i run 2 monitors off it. My question is, can i buy any AGP video card with dual monitor output or are there specific cards that i have to buy as its a mac. And also the current card has dvi outputs. Do i have to have these? I see no real advantage to having them over a standard monitor connection or am i missing something?
any recomendations would also be appreciated.

  • Thunderbolt Display with mini-displayport Sapphire HD 7550 video card

I have a Mac Pro 5,1, Model A1289, made in June 2012.  It came with a Nvidia Quadro 400 graphics card, but I want to purchase a Sapphire HD 7550 3GB Mac Edition graphics card in order to use a 27 inch Thunderbolt Display.  I know the Sapphire 7550 card will work in the Mac Pro version I have.
The description of the Sapphire 7550 card says it has two mini-display ports.  Will the 27 inch Thunderbolt Display work with this card?
I have read information on various forums that suggest it will work and others that say it will not.
Will a Thunderbolt Display work with a video card that has mini-display ports or does it have to specifically say it is a Thunderbolt port?
Does anyone have a clear answer?

  • How can I switch between 2 installed video cards?

I have an HP Pavilion dv7-6135dx Entertainment Notebook PC, Windows 7 64-bit. It has two video cards, one is a Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics card attached to the motherboard, the other is an AMD Radeon HD 6490M video card meant for gaming. The problem is that the computer and all the games and software I install on it only pickup on the Intel HD card, not the Radeon. I have the Catalyst Control Center for the Radeon card and it shows up in the device manager meaning the computer recognizes the card, but I can't download any drivers for the Radeon card from the Internet and nothing else seems to recognize it. This Radeon card series, 6400M, has OpenGL 4.1 and 3D graphics, the amd.com site specifically states this, but games with 3D or which require OpenGL, such as Bethesda's Brink, won't play. The errors say my graphics card does not support 3D or, in Brink's case, it doesn't have OpenGL 3.1 or higher. I'm assuming something is blocking the Radeon Card from working or I need to set the computer to use the Radeon card 24/7. Any help what so ever would be very much appreciated.

Yes I just used HP to install the drivers. It worked unlike the AMD website, but it still doesn't seem to be working. It has all the updates now, but games stil don't seem to recognize the Radeon card, just the Intel HD video card.

  • Mouse Lag and poor performance. Video Card or Power?

Not specifically a FCP question but related. I recently purchased a new rig. Here are the specs.
    2 X 2.93Ghz 6 Core/16GB RAM/ ATI Radeon 5870 video card.
I am having very odd mouse lag problems that are quite annoying. I am also having issues with playing sequences in unlimited RT. A guy in our office can play back better with an quad core. In regards to the mouse problem I have tried several different mouse and keyboard issues including a Wacom tablet and I get the same poor results.
Some people say it could be my video card and some say it could be a dirty power issue. I took the rig back to the store and the tech geek in the back said it worked fine for him but when I showed up with the keyboard and mouse to test it he had boxed up the computer and gone home.
Here is a clip of the screen and the weird jumpy jittery problem I am having.
    http://pdvpro.com/stupid_mac/
You can see the mouse and the window I am dragging freeze for a second even though I am mousing smoothly and continuously. The mouse and keyboard and Wacom tablet work perfectly on my old Dual Core.
    Any ideas?

According to your video, it's happening in Finder, not just FCP,
so it must be something systemwide.
Is there something running in the background, like Spotlight indexing?
System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy add your disks to be excluded.
Anything else running in the background?
Anything weird connected to your USB?
Also turn off your Airport or any network connection and repeat the test.

  • Windows compatible video card for OSX?

I have a windows PC with an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600XT card that i put in it a few years back. I was wondering if this card is compatible with my PPC Powermac G5 Dual 2.7 machine to add on as a second video card. It's only purpose would be for me to import analog video into FCP so I can edit VHS footage. Also, if the TV tuner worked, that would be pretty sweet, but its not that important. Can someone help me????

"was wondering if this card is compatible with my PPC Powermac G5"
Sorry, but no. The card must have been specifically built for Macs.

  • I need to know if ECC ram in a HPZ1 is compatible with Quadro 500M, 1000M, 2000M video cards

    hello,
    i purchased a refurbished hpz1 a year ago, equipped with a Quadro 500M and 16 GB of ECC ram. The cpu is a Xeon e3 1245 v2.
I have lots of trouble trying to use this workstation with certain graphics programs,  like Sketchup 2013 and 2014, as well as rendering programs.  Anything from program freezing/shutting down shortly after opening to locking up the machine midstream.  Yes,  I have updated video drivers, several times,  but still plagued with the same problem.  Not all the time, but frequently.
In shopping for upgrades to the 500M card (like 3000M, perhaps) I have come across video card vendors that specifically mention these older Quadro cards are NOT compatible with ECC ram. I have brought this to the attention of the workstation vendor, IT Creations, in California,  and they claim to never hearing of this issue.
I have spent dozens of futile hours over the past year dealing with system instability,  issues like bootup screens informing me the ram system chip count has (erroneously) changed, requiring immediate shutdown and booting back up to override the message.
Is it true?  CAN or SHOULD ECC ram be used with earlier Quadro cards using MXM3.0?

  • Boot Camp won't recognize my AMD 6970m Video Card

    Hello!
About a week ago, I received my brand-new 27" iMac, which came with Boot Camp installed and executed via VMWare. Its main system specifications are:
    - Intel i5 Quad Core @3.10 Ghz (performance rated at 9.30 Ghz)
    - 4GB RAM
    - AMD Radeon HD 6970m 1GB
As expected, OS X compatible games such as Starcraft II, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Sims 3 and Amnesia: The Dark Descent ran perfectly smooth on my machine, at maximum settings for the most part. Although, most of my games are not compatible with Mac, so I went into Boot Camp and installed Battlefield: Bad Company 2, but it crashed at match startup. I thought it was a driver problem, so I downloaded them. Thing is, when I tried to install them, it said that "no compatible hadware was found", and installation was aborted. Then, I ran a system analysis on both my Mac and Boot Camp (it runs a Windows 7 64-bit version). The results were the same, except for the graphics card:
    - On Mac, everything was fine.
    - But, on Windows, it said that my graphics card was "VMWare Virtual SVGA Graphics Adapter 256MB".
Then I thought it was a problem related with VMWare, so I installed Parallels and ran Boot Camp through it. Same problem, except for the fact that games, instead of crashing, ran horribly (for my system settings, at least); and a system analysis showed that I had "Parallels Display Adapter (WDDM) 512MB" for a video card.
Now, I would really appreciate if someone could help me, because I do not know what to do, and this problem is starting to annoy me... Please, I need help! I still have my OS X installation disk, if it helps.
    Thanks beforehand.

You might have luck cross posting in the Boot Camp forum, this is a general iMac forum where most only know OS X. The Boot Camp guy's may know how to direct you.

  • Can't identify video card on Windows 8 and Skyrim is choppy.

I have a late 2013 iMac with the following specs:
    8GB RAM
    3.4 GHZ Intel Quad-Core
Nvidia GeForce GTX 775m (2 GB GDDR5 Memory)
PS: When I look for driver for this model, it doesn't show up in Nvidia's website. Also, it shows the (m) models as Notebook models. I'm so confused.
When I am in Windows I can't find my graphics card. It says something about Basic Display Adapter and I can't find my video card. Can anyone help? My computer should well be fast enough for Skyrim and it's crawling to the point where I can't even get into the game after 15 mintues.
    Thanks.

did you install the boot camp drivers, specifically x5640, after windows was installed and hopefully before you ran the native updater in windows?

  • Power Mac G5 dual 2.0ghz (late june 2004) - trouble upgrading video card

Hi, I'd really appreciate any help. I have a PowerPC G5 Tower, dual 2.0 GHz, DVI/AGP version (June 2004 model) with 8gb ram. I recently got the Apple 30" monitor and wanted to run it along side my 20" apple monitor, so I bought the ATI Radeon 9650 dual dvi video card (ATI-G5-9650 Power Mac G5 ATI Radeon 9650 Supports 30" Display 256MB (DVI/DVI) (8X AGP) Video Card). I pulled out my previous video card from the AGP slot and inserted this one into the same slot. I turned on the machine and plugged in both monitors to the dvi ports and both screens were blank when I booted. I tried plugging in only one of the monitors, but again, just blank. Does this mean the card is bad? Did I put it in the right slot?
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

I'm installed an update, not 100% if it was the correc thing to update, but it was all I could find. I went to the ATI site and downloaded the ATI Displays 4.5.7.dmg and installed that as well as the ATI 10.3.6 SW Update.dmg. This was from the ATI site at: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.HTML
Is there another place or something specific for the 9650 that I need to download?
    thanks

  • Video card dead? Need to get a PC one - flash it if possible, need some hel

Computer is a 13 month old, out of warranty - go figure, Mac Pro.
Okay, last night finished work and fired up WoW and had several crashes, this morning I could not open WoW without getting a video crash right away, just massive screen artifacts and unable to really do anything.
I was able to copy files across the network and get some work stuff on my wife's iMac even when the screen was locked up.
I started backing up a few drives to a central drive, so I could wipe one clean and try a OS reinstal and see if that worked, was able to copy them even when I couldn't access the screen (Watched them populate via the network.)
I took the card out, popped the plastic cover off and cleaned the dust off - there really wasn't much, so I'm not sure what the issue is. I took a can of air and cleaned off the Ram, CPU heat sinks, etc.
Was able to boot in a few more times, usually locking up the screen in 4 or 5 minutes, however now booting into OS X, CD or Bootcamp goes straight to a lockup/you need to reboot screen, I've tried letting the card cool off to see if I could boot in real fast and get some pertinent work files (That worked on a PC w/a overheating card for me before, but I can't get past the lockup now.
I live in Vegas, so called a few apple stores who do not have any replacement cards, looking on ebay they are 2-3 hundred for a 8800GT, ug.
I was going to go to Fry's and pick up a EVGA 8800 GTS, seem to see a lot of how-to-flash posts, etc. claiming that works, and that's a great 'today-fast' around $100.00 solution (Money is VERY tight right now and things are getting worse incrementally w/the Mac dead.)
However - every tutuorial to flash the card gives me step by step how to do it via making a bootcamp partition, and having both cards installed, etc.
I don't seem to have the capability to do it from bootcamp as I can't get past the panic. My wife's got an iMac so no way there, the kids have a mini-hp, bleh.
My bud has a hackintosh I built as a gaming rig last year, I guess my question is, can anyone explain how to patch the card on a PC? Is it even possible or do I need to sell a kidney to get a Mac Pro specific card, flash the Fry's one and then try to recover some of the loss ebaying the Mac card?
Sorry if I'm rambling, really still not 100% sure it's the video card, but praying it is as that's the cheapest fix in these rigs.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!

See this link for a 4870 card, best instructs for flashing for a noob like me. (last lowest price was $150 for a 1GB vRAM 4870 from TigerDirect).
    http://web.me.com/jacobcroft/4870Flash/4870Flash.html
However, not every 4870 card will work with the ROM currently floating around out there. BEWARE!
