  • Warranty: global coverage?

    Hello everyone!
Tell me please, is warranty real outside US? I checked warranty by this link and it showed that warranty has global coverage. Problem is that my new touchpad don't turn on, I trying suggestions on this site and other forums, but they didn't help. I live in Russia and bought touchpad on ebay. Can I pass off my touchpad in regional HP service center?
    Thanks in advance!
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

I just called Apple and they confirmed that it is ok to buy the plan from the U.S. store. If you have a U.S. shipping and billing address that's all that matters. The coverage still applies to your iMac purchased in and being used in Japan.
This is a savings of about $100 this way.

  • Does the year 1 warranty include coverage for a shattered screen?

My MacBook Pro was shatteresd in my checked luggage on a recent trip. Does the year 1 warranty cover this? If not, does anyone know approx how much it is to fix?
    Thanks!

The above answers are correct and AppleCare doesn't cover it either.
Here are some options to consider:
Look online for a replacement display (±$800 depending lon the size) DIY consider buying a tools kit
There are places that will do the repair and return it within 24 hours
Bring it to the Apple Store and ask them if they can send it to the "Depot." But I don't understand their policy for this.  For example, I had the motherboard die on a 2006 MacBook. They quoted $435 to repair it in-house but $280 if they send it out to the Depot. They quote a flat rate for "repair" and then fix everything they find.   The Apple Store sent it to the Depot.  They replaced the Motherboard, top case, bottom case, battery, internal cables, screen bezel and a the SuperDrive for $280 TOTAL!

  • Guys, I'll be receiving a MacBook Pro bought in the US as a gift. I'm from UK, will the voltage difference (110v to 220v) and warranty/insurance coverage be an issue? Any other issues to face?

    Thanks guys...

Normally the voltage difference is not a problem because the charger can handle both.
I am not sure about the adapter plug: the wall sockets in UK and USA may be different, use a simple (earthed!) adapter for that if necessary.
The rest should be the same, although two keys on the keyboard might be different (@ is shift-2, try to find the other...).
    gratulations with your gift,
    Lex

  • IPad warranty coverage

I went to few apple reseller to ask about the new iPad gen 4th's warranty service coverage.  They all told me that it is worldwide warranty.  Is that right?

  • We live in USA and wish to purchase a Macbook Pro computer for our foreign exchange daughter, who has returned to Guatemala.  is it better to buy it here and hand carry or wait and buy it there?  we want to get her warranty and repair benefits

we live in Californina and will be travelling to Guatemala City next month to attend our Foreign Exchange Daughters graduation.  We want to buy her a Macbook Pro as a gift and purchase the warranty/protection coverage for her.  We are concerned she will not be entitled to any Apple Support/warranty by it being purchased in USA but using it and living in Guatemala.
It is better to wait and buy it from a retailer there in Guatemala?

    Apple Care is global.

  • Equipment warranty

    Hi PM experets ,
Iam creating assets as Equipment(in Pm Module).i maintained Vendor warranty for equipments.
but i wnat to get notifications if the wannarty expires .
how can i get it. any configuartion required.

There are two ways that I can think of:
    1.  Create a single call maintenance plan for just the warranty.  It's actually tied to the equipment, but has when the warranty expires as its call date.
    2.  Write a program that selects the warranties about to expire and generate notices from the program.
I'd use option 1 because it doesn't require any coding.  A task list can be established for what needs to happen upon expiration.  It can also be multiple counter based too (e.g. mileage and/or time).  If it is a non-renewable warranty (e.g. 50,000 miles), this would be a single cycle plan.  The problem is making sure that the maintenance plan matches the warranty's coverage.

  • Traveling soon, Can I use a Note 3 on a different carrier?

I'm trying to decide if I should get the Note 3 now or wait until January.
I have to travel to Armenia in December and I am wondering if I can swap out the SIM card in the Galaxy Not 3 for a local one WITHOUT having to root the phone or otherwise screw up the warranty/insurance coverage.
Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how to do it?
I have heard that the Note 3 is SIM unlocked and even region unlocked if you start it up for the first time with a SIM from where it was purchases buut I'm still not sure. I'll only be over there for a couplr of weeks but it would be nice to be able to use my phone without paying through the nose for the service. Anyone have any ideas?

I do not feel like wasting my time with people like you that not only write incomplete information but also shows lack of respect and contaminate the forums with messages last your previous one.
Anyway, for people who really want to use this valuable forum to gather PRECISE information:
    a) I only paste the same message where it applies, my only goal is trying to help people.
    b) After calling and chating with both Apple and T-Mobile I can say 100% sure that contract-free and unlocked ARE NOT the same.
    c) Other users have said that their iPhone seems to be unlocked but be aware that you are on your own if you pay nearly $700 for an iPhone that MAY only work for T-Mobile.
    d) You can clearly see the difference on Apple´s website where iPhone 5c gives you the option to select UNLOCKED while iPhone5s does NOT. Again, you are at your own risk.
    e) On another forum a user kindly pasted a conversation with Apple´s customer support that says that the iPhone 5s contract-free will work internationally if the carrier supports the frequencies.
    f) I will paste this text on whichever other forum that talks about this issue because I want to help people to make INFORMED decision with their purchasing options.
h)And finally, I apologize for not noticing that by mistake I put a reference to this FelipeV on some of my posts, it was an honest mistake.

  • Ipod Touch 5th Gen Black Screen - device inop

My daughter has an Ipod Touch 5th generation she received fro christmas in 2013. Yesterday she came home from school to find the screen black and the device non-responsive. Pressing or hold the power or volume buttons gives us no result. One thing we noticed right away was that the home button appeared not to work. When pressing down and releasing there is no click or apparent movement in the button. I do not know if this is normal, but from my searching it appears not to be. When attached to the computer, Itunes does not recognize the device. It sees no device at all.  This Ipod stays in an Otterbox Defender case at all times.
    My solution attempts:
    1) Charge Ipod to ensure battery is not dead.
    2) Attempting to clean the home button with isopropyl alchol. The ipod was held in an upright position the entire time to facilitate drainage and prevent the alcohol from getting under the screen.
    3) Attach ipod to computer to see if Itunes found device.
    4) Hard reset by holding power button and home button for over 10 seconds.
    Questions:
    1) Is home button supposed to click or move up and down?
    2) Is the black screen/non-response related?
    3) If 2 is correct, how do I go about fixing said button?
    4) What is the warranty on these? I cannot give you more information other that Dec 2013 it was received by daughter and model number on back is A1421.
I have no idea what version of OS it has on it.

With the serial number you can check warranty coverage here.
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
Unless you purchased the optional AppleCare extended warranty the coverage is for one year.
    Try this:
    Turn on without Home/Power Button
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • Stuttering video/audio and system crashes?

For the better part of this year, I've had a terrible time with video and audio stuttering on my MacBook (Sept. 2007; 2.16GHz, 4MB RAM). This was especially noticeable when watching streaming Netflix videos, and it didn't seem to matter if I was using Safari or Firefox. Clearing the browser cache has little to no impact.
The problem appears to have worsened since I upgraded to Snow Leopard about two months ago. (I'd previously been using OS 10.4.11; I now have 10.6.7). This same problem now impacting YouTube and QuickTime, even when I'm viewing files on my hard drive (approx. 27 GB free on a 120 GB drive), so I doubt that my internet connection is to blame. This happens whether I'm on WiFi or on an Ethernet connection -- also, my Ethernet randomly decides to stop working, but that's (probably) a separate issue.
(Also since my OS upgrade, I'm suddenly having battery issues as well.)
The problem is sometimes so bad that the entire system crashes, and I'm forced to do a cold/hard reboot of my MacBook. This has happened twice within the past 24 hours. Mostly, I can watch a few seconds or sometimes several minutes of video before the video and audio start sticking and stuttering again -- so pretty much any video capability is nearly worthless to me at this point.
Here's the Panic Report from my latest system crash this morning... I don't know how to read Panic Reports, so I'm hoping someone might spot something that I can fix to address this issue?

Definitely not. I've got a 2007 MacBook, and even with the extended warranty that coverage expired a year ago.
If you're concnered about cost, you could always call and ask. In my experience, the people at the Genius Bar (and Apple Store in general) are happy to provide assistance free of charge. If you have to replace a part, system, etc. you'll certainly need to cover that, but they should talk to you about costs and get your consent before doing any work on your machine.

  • Strange display problem

My MacBook Pro does this every once in a while:
    http://fc06.deviantart.com/fs31/f/2008/188/c/1/What_s_up_with_this__byuilleanngirl.png
    http://fc07.deviantart.com/fs31/f/2008/188/8/f/Andthis_byuilleanngirl.png
This colorful distortion sort of follows my cursor around and flits about the screen... Everything still works, but it's hard to see things, to put it mildly. Restarting the computer fixes it for a while. It's only happened about three times, with about a month or two between times. Those screenshots are from July 6, and it's just done it again tonight. It seems to happen when I'm playing a video of some sort (the first two times it was in iTunes, this time it was youtube) but nowhere near every time. I can't duplicate it on command.
After last time I created a troubleshooting user account, and turned on fast user switching so that next time it happened I could see if it was happening in that account to. So tonight I tried that, and yes, it was indeed there too, though to a lesser extent.
Also, it started happening soon after I replaced the battery, but I don't imagine that's the cause, is it?
So, is this a known issue, and if so, how bad is it and what can I do about it? Thanks.

If you look through the MBP forum you'll see several threads where people have complained about display-related issues. Some are the weird abstract art kind of thing similar to what you've got, others claim to have a 'rippled' effect while scrolling, and some people have the dreaded black screen of death (e.g.: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1478474&tstart=15 )
Some people speculate that this is related to the defective Nvidia chip issue (you'll find several threads on that topic as well). The fact that you're graphics card is coming up as X1300 instead of the Nvidia 8600 seems to suggest that this may be the root of your problem (read through the link above and you'll see others reporting having an 'X1300' as well).
You should probably first call Apple and describe your problem. Some people were offered a repair despite being a few weeks out of warranty, others had to be more forceful in requesting a free repair by pointing out that they heard about the Nvidia GPU issue. Some people were basically told they were SOL and would have to pay to get it fixed. Thus, the responses are not entirely consistent. I think people have said you'll have better luck calling Apple Customer Service than the Apple Care Tech Support.
If you can't get a satisfactory resolution from Apple, try to remember if you bought the computer with your credit card. If so, you might have automatic warranty extension coverage through your credit card company (most likely an additional year). You'll probably need your receipts and such to prove you actually bought the computer.
    Hope that helps.

  • Early '09 mini won't power on

Sigh, this past week I tried to turn on my early '09 Mini and it wouldn't do anything. I tried resetting the PRAM, replacing the PRAM battery, and finally gave up. Took it to an Apple certified local shop (not sure if I can mention the name here) and they said it was a dead logic board and would be cheaper to replace the Mini. It bothers me if that is the case. My MacBook is still going strong and takes far more abuse than this thing ever saw. Is there any way I can personally verify it is the logic board? I really have no desire to buy a new Mac currently or buy a logic board that's almost as expensive as a new Mini...

I wouldn't get too hung up comparing the mini to your MacBook, as the portables have a different design point.
The easiest way to confirm a logic board issue is to take it to another shop. The mini is pretty straightforward ... if it won't startup, showing no signs of life, it almost has to be the logic board (assuming of course that the power brick is working). Since you have an Intel mini, did you do an SMU reset:
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
You may have effectively done that when you took it to the local shop.
When you bought the mini, did you use a credit card that offers warranty extension coverage as a benefit?
You could look to buy a used logic board, but even that may be pricey.
