Re: Windows 7 on HP Envy m6-k010dx Sleekbook

I too am having the same dillema, a few of my programs are not working very well with 8.1 after i did the upgrade, and for a development machine windows 7 just seems to work better overall.
model: HP Envy m6-010dx
Product: E0L01UAR#ABA

Hey Nateclaftin,
That is why I recommended using the HP Support Assistant to pull in drivers that where not shown on your Product page. You list Both 7 and 8.1 so I would not know if you are using Windows 7.   The previous post from LASVEGASMAN states to include.
When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include your serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and post it here for our review.
So if you would like to include this information as to the OS and Model and what drivers you would need I would try to help.

  • RAM Upgrade Envy m6 k010dx

I have Envy M6 k010dx which according to HP site has 6 Gb RAm and is expandable to 16Gb. However Maintenance & Service Guide says next to 16Gb part number (intel models only). My Envy has AMD A10 processor; so does this mean it is not expandable at all? Or if so how much?
I thank you for your assistance.

    Hi,
No - as the book says 16Gb for Intel, no mentioned about AMD that means at least 8Gb for AMD because it has TWO slots each slot can have 4Gb as already in one slot now (currently 4+2 and you can go to 4+4). Not worth this unless you run virtual machine.

  • HP Envy TouchSmart M6 Sleekbook Recovery

Hi I have a HP Envy TouchSmart M6 Sleekbook and it came with a recovery disc but the problem is my sleekbook does not have CD Rom to put in. How can I still do a complete system recovery and bypass the question of putting in a CD when I don't have a CD Rom to place it in?
    Thanks

    scb_co
You can utilize the recovery CD with the use of an external CD ROM. Although, not every device requires an external CD ROM the requirements to make devices portable force us to begin using such devices. The nice thing about an external CD ROM is that it is inter-changeable between multiple devices. I would recommend that if you are going to be using portable technology that you purchase one.
There is also the option of creating an USB Flash Drive recovery image. I am providing you a link to an HP support document called 'HP PCs - Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive (Windows 8)' which will explain how to create it.

  • HP ENVY TS m6 Sleekbook dedicated video ram

Hello, I have an HP Envy TS m6 Sleekbook (Product number E0K41UA#ABA) with 16gb memory that I installed.  I would like to change my settings to dedicate some memory (either 512 or 1024mb) strictly to video in order to play a high quality game.  So far I have been unable to find a way to do this, either through my regular settings or Bios.  Is this possible on my computer, and if so, how would I go about it?  thank you!

Your GPU has its own ram , and thus it cannot be changed by any means.

  • Solid State Drive Upgrade Kit v300a with Windows 8.1 on Envy laptop

I am trying to install the Solid State Drive Upgrade Kit V300a in my new HP Envy with Windows 8.1. This upgrade was listed as an option for this model  and was bought with the machine.
The doc lists OS supported, but Windows 8 is not in the list. Is Windows 8 supported?
The included disk labled "Arconis" includes ATIHO user guide pdfs and an HP-Drive-Install-Guide-1.15.13-327pm pdf. The install guide mentions using Arconis. The Arconis user guide says to run "setup" to install Acronis but there is no setup file on the disk. I have chosen the setting to display hidden files and there is nothing on the disk but pdfs. The v300a box claims that it includes Acronis Cloning Software.
How do I install this HP upgrade on my new HP laptop?

YES, Windows 8 and 8.1 should be supported.
Please refer to this "HP SSD Upgrade Kit Installation Guide" for instructions on setting-up the HP SSD Upgrade Kit and cloning your factory installed hard drive. Please read the guide carefully and in its entirety. Next, assembly the SSD drive and the drive enclosure, per the instructions on page 9. Now, carefully follow the cloning instructions from page 9 to page 26.
Per the instructions, the cloning software should be on the included CD/DVD and it may be a bootable disc. However, if you are unable to locate the required software, please see www.HPSupport.pny.com to register your product and download any needed software.

  • Windows 8.1 Pro upgrade issue (from Windows 8 Pro) on Envy 23 TouchSmart All-In-One...

    Hello,
I have an HP Envy 23 Touchsmart All-In-One that I purchased a year ago (around 12/2012). It came preinstalled with Windows 8.
    System Information:
    a) Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770S CPU @ 3.10 GHz
    b) 8192 MB of RAM
A few weeks after I had bought the system, I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro with Media Center that I purchased through Microsoft's upgrade program.
Last week (10/19/2013), I saw the upgrade option to Windows 8.1 in the store and decided to upgrade.
After a few minutes, I got a prompt asking me to restart the computer and I did.
However, I noticed that the screen went blank, but it really didn't restart - I saw that the hard disk light was still blinking and I waited for around 15 minutes. I know it didn't restart because if it did I would have seen the HP logo on the BIOS screen. A little later, the system went into sleep mode (at least, the power button light was blinking slowly as if it was on sleep). Since it was late at night, I decided to leave the system alone and decided to check on it next morning. Next morning, it was still in sleep mode (as I feared) - when I tried to wake it up from sleep by moving the mouse/hitting the return key, it made the exact sounds as if it was waking up from sleep (as it always does), but the screen was still blank. The power button slight was glowing steadily indicating that it is awake now.
At this point, I decided to power down the system by holding the power button for a few seconds. Upon reboot, I saw the HP logo on the BIOS bootup screen and then the screen went blank and nothing came up.
So I decided to do a system recovery using my Windows 8 recovery CD and powered down the system with the CD in its slot. This time, the system came up and immediately started restoring my OS to a previous version.
Upon logging in to the recovered system, I got the following message:
    "Couldn't update to Windows 8.1
Sorry, we couldn't complete the update to Windows 8.1. We've restored your previous version of Windows to this PC.
    0xC1900101 - 0x40019".
I tried reinstalling Windows 8.1 a couple of times after this. Once by disabling all the non-Microsoft services and disabling all the startup programs. Still the same result.
I don't have any antivirus software on my system other the default Microsoft system protection software.
    Any help, much appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Fresh windows install on an envy 14 - How do I get beats working?

    Hi All,
I received my brand new hp envy 14 yesterday and I love it. What I usually don't like is the pre installed software that come with every new computer so the first thing I did is I removed the default hdd and replaced it with a brand new ssd and installed a fresh version of windows.
Everything works fine with the default windows drivers except the sound. Meaning the sound works but when I crank up the volume to the maximum, it's not very loud (i.e.: I can get my cellphone to play music louder than that). Sadly I can't compare with the pre-installed version of windows because I didn't even bother booting with it ..
So my question is: What softwares/drivers am I supposed to install to take advandage of the beats of my new laptop? (I have the envy 14, not the beats edition but it stills feature audio beats..)
I tried to change the properties of the speakers (levels and enhancements, bass boost, virtual surrounds, loundness equalization,....)
I also tried to install the IDT drivers found on this forum but I didn't find any hp envy 14 specific version. Could it be the problem?
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks!

Here is the audio driver for Envy 14 -  ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48435.exe
For the fn+b Key combo to work, you will need to install Quicklaunch from here... ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50681.exe
Or has the above drivers been tried....

  • No sound from headphone jack with Windows 8.1 (Hp Envy 15)

Hello all, I have an Envy 15 3040nr and I did a clean install of microsoft latest Windows 8.1 version plus all drivers. Everythink works BUT the headphone jacks. I had windows 8 before and everything worked.
Once I plug a headphone in either jack (envy 15 has 2) the speakers stop as expected but I get no sound in the headphone. I tested two headphones that work just fine on my phone and other computer.
I also checked if it was a hardware problem but it isn't. I boot with Ubuntu and both headphone jacks works perfectly.
I installed several (at least 6) driver versions searching the forum but even when I get the speakers working the headphone jacks never works.
    Please help!

    Hello ArthurSilva,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
You stated that you are able to get the speakers working, but you have been unable to get the headphones to work. I would like you to get your speakers so they are working and then try the steps I have outlined below to get the headphones working afterwards:
Step 1. Go to the Tiles menu and type "Troubleshooting"
    Step 2. Click on Troubleshooting
Step 3. Click on Troubleshoot audio playback in Hardware and Sound option
    Step 4. Click Next
Step 5. Choose Headphones and Windows will automatically detect the problem
Step 6. Click on "Apply, fix" button
This should resolve your headphones issue with Windows 8.1. If it does not please re-post for further steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

    Hi @BT14,
You could go ahead and do the recovery.  However with the hard drive failing it may last a day, a week  or a month, it is unknown.  There is no way to know when it will completely fail.
You could be working on something that was very time consuming and important and suddenly it will fail and all would be lost.
If it were me I would replace the hard drive and then do the recovery.   I would prefer to know that my notebook was in good working order and not worry about when it will fail on me.
    Good Luck!

All I do is download the x64 bit version of itunes, turn off the AV, install using administrator rights, and reboot.  The application installs fine and it opens up however when I go to use the application it loads about 90% of the itunes store and then throws a windows error box stating the application has stopped responding.

I have the same issue with Windows 8. I have a brand new computer. All my music was carried over to my new computer from my old computer using the icloud. However, I cannot sync my ipod nano 7 to the new computer. Same thing happens. It says it is synching but nothing happens. I have found that it will allow me to sync my purchased songs but not the rest of the content. I am beyond annoyed. I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it and even tried resetting my ipod nano to factory settings. Any advice????
