Re: Windows Servers

We have Windows servers that we want to install ZFS 7 on, but our Windows
servers do not have eDirectory installed on them, and we have no plans to
do so. In the documentation, it states that in this scenario, External
Subscribers should be used, yet during the installation of the ZFS Agents
to Active Directory Windows servers, it allows only the creation of a
Subscriber object. Is this enough, in a case like this, or following the
installation, do we also have to create an External Subscriber? Thanks.

Thanks!

  • SCCM 2012 Software Update Management for Windows Servers and how to automatic set SCOM maintenance mode?

    Hi,
We planning to go one level higher to automat and have more dynamic Software Update Management for Windows Servers. We have SCCM 2012 R2, SCOM 2012 R2 and SCO 2012 R2.
Our plan is to pur server in an AD-Group to get Update Schedule, from the servers will be importet to an Collection for Automatic Update and reboot. If I understand Everything right SCOM can't read AD-Group and put then in an Schedule maintenance mode. SCOM
can read reg value as exempel.
IS there any smar way to make the SCOM Maintenance Mode Schedule dynamic?
    I found this

You could use Orchestrator to put the servers from a specific collection, or AD group, in maintenance mode in SCOM. For an example see:

  • Viewing Windows servers in finder

In Tiger, I was able to click on "Network" in finder and view all the Windows servers and computers on the domain my network connection was running through.
Now in Leopard, I can see all the Macs that are connected on the network but I can't see any Windows servers or computers. I have to use the "connect to server" option to connect to any Windows servers instead of just double clicking on them. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

I found some other information on this on another site and I think it could be related to my smb.conf file possibly. I took a look at mine but I can't find anything that jumps out as needing to be changed or added.
Here is a copy of my smb.conf file, I was hoping someone would be able to tell if something changed or added to it would relieve me of my issues:

  • Specifying user-ID for gathering perfmon statistics from windows servers?

When using OATS Load Testing to gather statistics from Windows servers (perfmon stats), the user-Id the Load Testing server is running under must be a member of the Performance Monitoring group on all the Windows servers I am trying to monitor. I have a standard user-ID I use for this kind of monitoring. It is automatically setup on all the servers in our enterprise. Where do I specify this user-ID and password in OATS Load Testing?
The only reference I can find in the documentation says to change the user-ID and apassword in the Oracle Load Testing Agent Serivce. I don't think this is what I want. And, there is no service called "Oracle Load Testing Agent Service" installed on my server anyway.
    Thanks for the help!

To gather any Server Stats (i.e. perfmon) data the OLT controller must communicate with a data collector process. The data collector process is olt-dc-java-agent.exe, which I recall is also kicked off by the Agent Manager Service (just like it does for the javaagent load agent process). I think you have configured the collecting of server stats data to be collected from a remote agent machine, which is fine, but you could configure SS to collect from the service running on the OLT (oats controller) machine.
There is a reason why the DC processes can be separated from the OLT machine. If you testing and SS collecting in a single subnet environment, then it is fine to default your OLT/SS environment to use this single OLT AgentManagerService/DCollector configuration. Though, in the case where the servers you need to collect from are behind a firewall, you will need to install that AgentManagerService/DCollector combo on a machine behind the firewall, and also configure OLT/SS to talk to that 2nd data collector. A second example is when you are collecting so much data that the single data collector is stressed. So in that case simply creating a 2nd data collector machine will distribute the gathering of data.
btw, you should consider not using your Network UserID/Pass for authenticating the agent manager service. Best practice is to ask your IT to create a special user/pass to handle the server stats needs. Then there is no conflict if you change your password in the future.

  • PhotoStream uploading my photos to Windows servers!

    Hi,
I have found one thing which really upset me.
Some process uploads big amount of data so my network connection start behaving slower, but I discover, that it is PhotoStream uploading my photos to Windows (Azure Storage) server!!
Here you can see established connection:
    cyberdelia:~ mcmelik$ lsof -i | grep window
    PhotoStre  2567 mcmelik   49u  IPv4 0x74d7a0a63ac45bf      0t0  TCP 10.0.0.5:59604->blob.db3prdstr07a.store.core.windows.net:https (ESTABLISHED)
Can please someone tell me what the **** is going on there? I have no M$ application on my Mac. Even if I turn off photostream upload in iPhoto, it is still sending data.
Im not aware of sharing photo stream with someone on PC, but if so, why are my photos uploaded directly to some Windows servers?
    Thank you for explanation

  • Can we Monitor third party Windows servers through Cisco Prime

    Hi Team,
We are  using  Cisco Prime assurance and  are currently monitoring Cisco UCCE Components through it.
Meanwhile we have   few third party  windows servers , which we would like to monitor it through Cisco Prime , just to maintain a single monitoring tool.
If yes, please share the steps or link. Also highlight the limitations in that.
    Regards,
    krishna

Seems Cisco Prime Assurance Manager is now obsolete and end of life already.
It is replaced by Cisco Prime Infrastructure. CPI supports third party/vendor devices to some minimum extent with limited management details collected via SNMP Templates.

  • Why do each of the company's Windows Servers have a slightly different list of root CAs?

    Hello,
I just noticed two event 4097s come through for CAPI2 in the Application event log. I started poking around and couldn't find any of these events on any other Windows Servers. Apparently two third party root certificates were auto-updated. When I looked
at the list of root CAs in the Certificates Console on a few Windows Servers I noticed that each had a slightly different set of root CAs.
What is the best practice with managing these root CAs in the cert stores of each server? I would like to verify each one and determine why some servers have some root CAs and others don't. Such as the root CA for USERTrust,  with thumbprint "58119f0e128287ea50fdd987456f4f78dcfad6d4".
It's on certain servers in our DEV and PROD environments, but weirdly not consistently on a similar function server.
What are the scenarios in which the root CA list could be modified?
    Thank you.

As Elke says, newer operating systems (Vista and newer) build their root trust stores dynamically as they have a need. These are all still vetted by Microsoft, but are not loaded by default. This can cause problems in environments with bad connectivity
or have been prevented from accessing the internet. More details at https://support.microsoft.com/kb/931125

  • NFSv4.0 client for Windows servers?

Does anyone know if there is an NFSv4.0 client that I can install on my Windows servers (2008 and 2012) to access a file system that supports the NFSv4.0 protocol?
I tried the native Windows "Client for NFS" but it appears to be using NFSv3 (client uses v3 MOUNT commands). I also tried a client from UMichigan, but it only supports v4.1 (separate protocol).
    Would really appreciate your help!

    Hi,
On Windows Server 2008, you can use Services for NFS with UNIX computers which are running NFS client or server software which complies with version 2 or version 3 of the NFS protocol. On Windows Server 2012, you can use NFS Version 4.1 Protocol Specification.

  • Connectivity Issue - Server Network - Windows Servers

    Hello
I'm  having connectivity issues, from my network, with the Servers Network  that's located behind the Ace 4710... I'm monitoring the servers and i  get Timeouts with a simple ICMP monitor... This problem is only with Windows Servers...
I  never have problems regarding the access to the Admin context, but in  the context that i use to load balance the applications i have problems
    reaching directly the servers...
For  example... I have two servers and i lose connectivity with one of them  for about 2-5 minutes and then i regain connectivity... If i undo the ft  group and redo the ft group i regain instant access to the server... As i said this problems only appear with Windows Servers...
    Thanks in advance...

  • Accessing Windows Servers Problem - HELP!

    Hi All,
I regularly take my MacBook Pro into the office and did so yesterday and today.
Yesterday I was able to connect to the office network without a hitch - today I am not. Nothing has changed on the office network whatsoever (I'm assured by our IT manager) and I haven't installed anything on my MacBook.
The MacBook can see some printers on the network but not the main windows servers.
Am at a loss, not sure what to try. I've entered network settings and the Mac is definitely connected to the network, just struggling to see any windows servers.
IT manager mentioned that SMB might be the problem but I'm flummoxed as to how that can have occurred overnight with no input from me.
Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated.

    Hi
Clearly something major has happened? Either you're connected to the wrong network/subnet or something has definitely changed regarding the network you usually connect to where those servers are accessible.
You have to verify whether (a) the IP Addresses for the Servers are what they should be (b) the subnet you're allowed to connect to is what it should be (c) your network settings are what they should be to access those servers.
The fact you can't telnet on port 139 seems to indicate this as well as no response from ping. It's more than possible a policy has been implemented that has either made the VLAN or Firewall more severe than what it was before. The other possibility is you may or may not have (inadvertently?) configured the built-in Firewall to deny all incoming connections? Unlikely as you can receive emails so clearly you are accessing the network in some way? Possibly? You really need to get the Network guy involved somehow.

  • May I deploy MS patches on windows servers, and reboot the servers later?

    Hello,
I am trying to steam line patching process. May I deploy MS patches on the windows servers first and then reboot the servers at a later time? say days later.
    Tiffany

For CCM, that is a big no. You need to get the updates that have been approved by Cisco from Cisco. They are available at the following link. Read the release notes very carefully! There are very strict upgrade sequences. I suggest that you consider upgrading to UCM 6 or 7; the updating process is much easier.
Cisco Unified CallManager Version 4.1 > Voice Application OS and BIOS Updates
For Unity, you can typically download and run the Update Wizard which will have the approved updates rolled in. Depending on how immediate you want to be about it, there is also a support policy for Windows Update
Software Installed by the Cisco Unity Server Updates Wizard in 2009 .

  • Newbie: browsing Windows servers on .local AD domain

    Hello all,
I've added a new Mac Book to out .local domain and I can log on using my domain account. I have internet access after configuring the Proxy server settings.
However, I don't know how to go to our file servers? I've searched in finders but I can only see the various domains in .local but no specific shares that i know are available for Windows machines.
Any document I can read or a quick way of doing this? Will GPO s run on the Mac?
    Thanks in advance.

Your Windows servers should show up in the "All" network location. Select a server and authenticate, and you will see the shares available on that server.
You can also use "connect to server" in the Go menu to connect to a specific server by IP address or DNS name. Use the form: smb://10.0.1.1 or smb://winserver.example.local
No, GPOs will not apply to Macs unless you are using a product like Centrify.

  • Strategy, Planning and Managing bulk updates to large fleet of Windows Servers 2003-2012

a major project at my new job using SCCM is to push out in an organised fashion updates to its fleet of 500+ windows servers. Numbers: 50+ 2003, 50 x 2008, 200x 2008r2, 200x 2012.
This is spread across DC's, File/print, Exchange, Lync, FIM, App, SQL, Orchestrator, with many clustered/NLB, others not.
I am struggling to piece together a plan to attack which server first, in an organised, planned fashion but using collections and SCCM. We also have Orchestrator, although I am not that experienced in using it (but it may server my purposes better?)
I have already downloaded one software update group for all O/S: Server 2003- Server 2012.
I am only interested in the BASE Operating System (Server core, not Application, like exchange/lync).
What are at least the basic principle i should adhere to (ie. target non-critical first)?
Can I deploy updates to all at once, suppressing restart, and then just manage the restart process in a managed/documented fashion?
Can I, should I, depend on SCCM to process updates during assigned maintenance window, to apply updates and then initiate restart at deadline? (This hasnt worked as intended during workstation update deployment).
Should I use powershell/Orchestrator to control reboot process more precisely?
What groups of servers can i manage together and automate restarts during service windows etc.
Thanks in advance. links to blogs/articles are welcome (i found hardly any useful).

    Hi Maxwell,
To deploy the updates in SCCM, please follow this article, we can specify the download behaviour and deadline behaviour of installation in the "Deploy Software Updates Wizard":
