Like I said in the post....  users will have their X1 Carbon machine locked when they try to use the wireless here in the office.  No blue screen no nothing just complete freeze and I would have to hard shutdown.  Here is the scenario I have gathered:
Laptop on battery
Wireless signal drops to almost one bar right before it will lock up and freeze.
I got the driver version at 15.1.0.8 and the computer will not lock and freeze but one user has gotten a blue screen twice.
If I turn the wireless radio off then the computer will not lock up.  I haven't tried to update to the latest driver version of 16.1.1.
Please let me know if there is anything you would like for me to try.
thanks

I just used my x1 carbon for two weeks. The x1 carbon often dropped from the internet( a yellow exclamatory mark on the wifi icon) I have to restart the computer to reconnect the wifi.  I already updated the latest wireless drive.
How can I resovle the problem?

  • More on wireless problems with 10.4.8+

There has been much said and discussed about wireless problems with the Macbook's with 10.4.8+ updates, both the C1D and the C2D macbooks have seen problems with a number of units.
Unfortunately, it is very hard to find real information on this website, because the forum is drowned in "wireless problems!" posts from people that have not read the previous posts.
Since there may be several unrelated wireless problems around, I'll try to specify my particular problem and add in solid information, so others can check if their system behaves like mine.
    First. The symptoms:
    1. The Macbook does not connect to WEP or WPA networks after sleep or being shut down.
    2. The Wireless icon blinks between black and grey.
    3. The Apple support information about deleting all networks and keychains WORKS, but only until next sleep or shut down. Afterwards the procedure has to be done again to connect (very annoying).
    4. This may be unrelated, but Keychain Access crashes on startup and can only be run in Rosetta.
First, we need to establish a few things
    1. The problem is real and is not limited to a particular Access Point (I have had problems with both a D-link 624+ and now a Netgear DG834GT from Sky Broadband.
    2. The problem exists with 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 but not with 10.4.6 or 10.4.7. This I have tested multiple times.
    3. It really does not matter if I use WEP or WPA.
Now. /var/log/system.log does actually output an awful lot of stuff during this.

So I get the same problems with a D-link DGL-4300,
after every sleep I need to reset the router to get
thw wireless working again. I really need a solution
    for this.
For me, resetting the router does not work, only removing network from Airport preferences and re-adding it. Have you confirmed that this is indeed the same issue by looking what gets printed to /var/log/system.log?
To show the output, do the following from the terminal
    sudo cat /var/log/system.log
This prints the contents of the log-file to the terminal window.

  • U300s wireless problems (multiple)

I have had my U300s just over a year now and am suddenly encountering wireless problems.  Like others on this board with different IdeaPads (esp. U310), I experience a dramatic drop in speed when I move from the first floor (where the router is) to the second.  It sometimes disconnects, says I have no internet access, etc.  The second, and more mysterious problem is very, very recent: I have decent internet access -- even when upstairs on the second floor -- until the moment I switch over to an external monitor and close the laptop lid.  Then: nothing.  All other functions work fine, the internet simply cuts out.  This is VERY odd, as up until one month ago in a different apartment (and for a good 8 months), I worked everyday with my laptop connected to an external monitor, lid closed, with no real problems (only the occassionaly slow internet).
Just for the record: I originally thought the wireless cutting out might have to do with my wireless mouse (previously, I had a corded).  So I hunted down an old, corded mouse and...makes no difference.  Clearly not the source of the problem.
I know some people have had problems with their wireless after installing Windows8.  I am still using the original Windows7.
    Thanks for any help!!

Sorry, no. I have been overwhelmed and distracted by a new problem: my keyboard's space bar, enter key, and back space key are not working. It started off as an occassional glitch last week (when I shut down and turned the pc back on, the problems were usually also gone) but now I can press as hard or frequently as I am able and nothing happens.  Or if it does, it is a total fluke, not to happen again any time soon. And it makes no difference if I put it into sleep or shut it off and start it back up. I don't know what to do! Is this a hardware problem or...?

  • Wireless Problems: Observations/Possible Fix for Some (No Guarantees)

    Hi All:
I have been following our wireless problem threads. To a large extent, they revolve around lost connections, weak signals, etc. On my machine, I previously noticed what appeared to be wide fluctuations in signal strength, although I could almost always pick up one distant network that has to be at least 125' away regardless of my apparent signal strength. Also, I never lost my connection. I also have noticed that my Windows notebooks pick up more networks than my MBP, even though some must be farther away than 125'.
Recently, I had to reinstall all my software. Once resolved I'll explain why and what to look out for. Anyway, before the reinstall, I had done all updates. When I reinstalled, I also did all updates. The bottom line is that I have not seen the wide fluctuations in signal strength since reinstalling. Sometimes I see more networks than I am used to seeing.
Am I suggesting that you reinstall to eliminate the types of problems mentioned above? Definitely not especially if your problem is pretty minor. However, if your problem is significant, then think about it. Perhaps a greater than expected number of partially bad factory installs accounts for some of our problems.
I finished my reinstall only about 24 hours ago. I'll continue to monitor and will post back if I begin to see the wide signal strength fluctuations again.

Nope, thanks. I certainly advocate all trying any possible fixes prior to taking the drastic step of reinstalling. Hope the update works for all. I must of installed it yesterday with a number of other updates. Thus, it wasn't what "fixed" my system. But, it looks like it didn't hurt it either. Both are good to know:) Gosh, and looking at some of the recent posts in this category, I am glad that none of the recent updates hosed anything on my machine. Then, I'd me reinstalling again and being more selective about the updates.
I have to admit I have been throwing caution to the wind on doing all the updates. I think I'd better go back to my old style of seeing if there are update rumblings before I install them.

  • Mac OS X 10.4.9 Fixes Wireless Problems?

A few months ago, I had to downgrade from 10.4.8 because when I left the wireless on overnight, I would find it would be disconnected in the morning, and unable to reconnect without turning AirPort off and on again. This also happened when I was generally working away - first I would loose connectivity, and a few minutes later, the AirPort status icon would show I was disconnected. I'm now running 10.4.5 after noticing the problem starts with 10.4.6, but I was wondering if the latest version, 10.4.9, fixed this problem? So basically - does anyone who used these other versions and had the problems find that they are now fixed? If so, I'll finally download the update - but for the moment I'll stick with what I've got.
    Thanks,
    Robert

The wireless problems are not operating system specific, contrary to popular belief. They are specific to issues of bad firmware on the access points, loose wireless cards, or interference from external sources, or third party software that plays havoc with the wireless drivers. Here's my guide* to attempting to resolve most wireless problems. While I titled it 10.4.8, it has been found to affect not just 10.4.8, by every version of Mac OS to some extent and Windows too when certain issues are happening.

  • Wireless Problem in windows 7 intel wifi link 5100agn

i bought a dv7 1270us laptop in january. everything was fine until the last 3 months i started having small problems in vista. it would take 10+ minutes to connect and the speed would go up and down. then i installed windows 7 and am either having problems with the card or driver but ive tried every driver i can find and nithing has worked.. the wireless drops randonly. when it drops it doesnt lose connection the signal drops all the way down to one bar and i get maybe 10Kbps of bandwith well it takes 2 minutes to load a page of this forum atleast. When it drops it also only drops for maybe 5-10 minutes or else it stays like that until i restart but resarting always fixes it tempoparily for 10 minutes or so. toaday i tried to disconnect and reconnect to my network. as soon as i cicked connect i got a blue screen it pointed torwards netw5v64.sys i have tried re installing the drivers multiple times and the problem isnt resolved. i have sent the laptop in twice in the last 2 months one for the blue ray drive and wireless problems i am having now. they sent it back with a new blue ray drive and a new antenna for my wireless saying the card was fina it was a driver and maybe a new antenna would help with connectivity. well they were wrong. i got it back and it started overheating to 90+ degrees celcius and wireless problems were still there even though they re-imaged the hard drive so all drivers should be perfect.so i sent it back again. now i just got it back and they cleaned the heatsink and completely ignored my wireless problems. the sheet that states the repairs that were done has a circle aroubd cleaned heatsink/fan and thats it n comments or anything. then to make the icing on the cake there is a 3 inch long fairly deep scrath on my laptop i take verygood care of all of my laptops so that i can sell them used for more than a scratched up one. i am very disappointed in hp and almost dont want to send it back and loose it for another week just to get it back without anything being done again i am almost certain they would re0image the hard drive again and send it back since they didnt even do that the second time. okay back on topic is there anything anyone has heard t fix this so i dont have to send it in again. any help is appreciated

Intel! They make processors and a variety of motherboard hardware, but they seem to have a devil of a time making decent drivers. Particularly with their wireless NICs. Lately I’ve noticed a number of errors springing from the Intel WiFi Link 5100/5300 AGN family of wireless adapters. They seem to cause random bluescreen errors on Windows Vista systems. Fortnuately, there is a viable workaround:
-Right click on Computer and select Manage.
-After Computer Management opens up, go to Device Manager.
-In Device Manager, expand the Network Adapters category.
-Right-click on “Intel (R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN” and select Properties.
-In Properties, go to the Power Management tab.
-Under the Power Management tab, make sure that “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” is unchecked.
Apparently, the driver for the WiFi Link 5100 can’t properly handle the device going to sleep, and pulls down the whole system. Hopefully Intel will fix this in future driver updates. Until then, this workaround will have to do.

  • Detailed Console Logs For the Wireless Problem

So I'm yet another victim of the mysterious Macbook wifi problem. Have been for several months.
Anyway, I dropped into console, narrowed the search to 'airportd' and tried to activate AirPort from a problem spot in the house.

    6/3/08 5:23:45 PM SystemUIServer[95] Error: airportd MIG failed = 1 ((os/kern) invalid address) (port = 36623)
Just for a recap... This problem happens anywhere I go, basically when I'm not in the same room as the access point. I've tried dropping AirPort from the configuration pane, I've changed the MTU, I've flashed the PRAM more times than I can really count.
I'm not that great with the internals of these things but maybe one of you knows what exactly the error codes mean.
I've also tried using the wireless under bootcamp in Windows XP, I have the same problems. Last night I tried the latest Ubuntu Live-CD installer and the wireless problems persisted, so I'm guessing something in one of the updates messed up the hardware.
Can anyone else try to replicate this?
I called the nearest Apple store and the Genius I talked to said that I was the first time he had heard of this problem. Anyway I figure it might be useless but I'm going to make an appointment with them and try to replicate the problem in-store.

Don't pay any attention to anything you see here or on the rest of the Internet, especially when it concerns Apple. What looks like "a ton" is really only a handful of people. And you have no idea what they have done to their machines. There are several million other people who have no problem at all or are smart enough to diagnose a hardware problem on their own and take it in to Apple.
What you have already done in this thread is much, much better information than the average "me too" post you will find. No one posts diagnostics. No one makes an attempt to diagnose the problem. No one make an appointment to have Apple look at the machine. I've seen it over and over again. They just want to rant.
I suspect you will be up and running while all the "others" are still ranting.

  • Mac pro wireless problem osx 10.9.4

    Mac Pro n
Had wireless problem after 10.9.4 update.
Various things it may say: move router closer, or invalid password, or time out.
Tried all the solutions normally provided. Restarting, running this, doing the airport tests, more this and that, etc... no go bro! Searches returned similar problems but no real answers.
    SO....
I changed router channel from 6 to 7, you can change yours to what ever channel you like, and restarted router.
In NETWORK preferences the wireless light was orange and not connected. Network connection shows my network though.
I then went into NETWORK > ASSIST ME > DIAGNOSTICS >The Network Status light for Wi-Fi was green but all others below it were red.
I then typed in the name of network connection and the password in the wifi settings and it said wrong password, I did it again and a drop down box said "network changes detected"
    Wahoooo That is the ticket!
Then re-enter the Connection Name and Password and it should connect.
All the lights should now be green on the Network Status (ISP, Internet, etc)
    Lucky Me!
    Question is:
How do I manually get my connection back rather than hoping and praying the Mac Pro will finally detect something different and then allow the connection.

Try updating to 10.9.5. I had similar problems before updating.

  • Toshiba broadcom wireless problems

Hi, some time ago, I tried to get wireless to work on my laptop, and I decided to continue my little project. I had to install archboot to get wired connection, but it didn't fix my wireless problem, so I found this article on wiki:

problem is, I install the driver, and when I run this commands:
    $ modprobe lib80211_crypt_tkip
    $ modprobe wl
    I get:
    #FATAL: Module wl not found.
so, does anyone have any idea, cos I'd really like to get that working after so much time.
when I run iwconfig I just get this:
    lo no wireless extensions.
    eth0 no wireless extensions.
I saw on kernel.org, that there's a higher version of kernel that I'm currently using, but I'm not expert for that, so is it possible to get that kernel and replace the old one with it, or I'm talking nonsense? I used archboot because he had newer version of kernel in which my network card was supported.
    Thanks in advance!

I would find the wl.ko file where it has been compiled and copy it to the correct directory, something like:
    /lib/modules/2.6.37-ARCH/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/
then run depmod -a and then modprobe wl.
Alternatively you can find the compiled driver and do insmod wl.ko

  • U350 wireless problem

    Hi,
I am having wireless problems with my U350 laptop which I've owned for about 5 months. The wireless LED will not turn on, and when I press [Fn]+[Wireless] to toggle it on, it just shows the message "First switch on the wireless device" (see screenshot 1). The device drive settings shows that the driver is installed correctly and I have not messed with it. Windows Vista also thinks wireless is off.
The laptop came preinstalled with Windows Home Vista, and wireless was working fine until one day when the wireless LED will not light up. I have checked the BIOS settings but it shows it is enabled (see screenshot 2). I have also tried the combination of : disable WLAN in BIOS + REBOOT + enable WLAN in BIOS + REBOOT but to no avail.
Before I send my U350 off to the service center, is there a secret hidden lenovo wireless button that I can push to make sure it is not a hardware failure?
[UPDATE] I finally picked up the manual and saw that there is another slide switch on the side of the laptop to enable / disable wireless.

    Hello
im confused too, like you but i found the correct way for activate your wireless firs of all; you must turn activate wifi switch (on your U350's left side) second one, please press " Fn + F5 " thats it you can see your lighted wireless indicator under your toch pad
    see you.

Bookmark this page, its the entry page to the Lenovo support pages for your 2374-Q39. In it you see you have the Intel 2200bg wireless card so this is the correct driver to use.

  • FiOS, Actiontec, MBP, and 10.5.5 wireless problems

I've posted a couple of threads, prior to realizing that the problem I'm having is likely an interaction between my MBP and the FiOS actiontec blocking NAT. Anyone else having wireless problems with FiOS on an MBP?

There are over 23000 compatible Mac hardware and software titles on http://guide.apple.com/ Even if there were only 64 compatible Mac and hardware titles, that would take longer than the age of the universe to test every possible combination of software and hardware, based on a single test every second with 64 factorial equaling greater than the age of the universe in seconds. Somewhere even old items are going to drop off in terms of compatibility. That's why there are specs. That's why Apple sets developer guidelines at http://developer.apple.com/
Your $1000 router, is probably only worth $10 today, if it doesn't meet today's current standards. Apple makes an effort to follow the standards of present day. If you spent $1000 on your router, I sure hope the company that makes it has a good support system. If it doesn't, it sounds like you made an unwise purchase then, and should sell it and get a better router. Apple's Airport Extreme base stations are only $179. You can setup a wireless distribution system with them, and Airport Express base stations which are only $99 that probably will cover just as many machines as your $1000 router.

  • VIsta Wireless Problems with New FIOS Install July 2009

I recently had FIOS telephone, INternet andTV intstalled.  All was well except on my Vitsa laptop I cannot maintain a steady wireless conneciton with the Actiontec MI424WR router.  I hit the Web and found out that many have had this complaint and that there is an ongoing conversation about whose fault the problem is.  I had flawless service under TIme- Warner with my Vista Wireless so I did not intially assign blame to Vista or my laptop.  I do recall the Verizon installer mentinoed "problems with Vista" but he did not elaborate.  I spent all day yesterday researching and attempting every fix suggested on numerous web sites.  All failed except one.
Essentially, I now use my LinkSys Router in front of the Actiontec MI424WR router.  I found the instructions to do this on numerous web sites after researching FIOS Vista wireless problems.  The LinkSys router handles only wireless.  Now my Vista laptop never drops a connection.  I still have acess to FIOS TV guide and on demand so the fix did not interfere with FIOS router TV functions.
THe bottom line is that it would appear that there is a problem with the Actiontec MI424WR router and Vista.  Fortunately for me I had the Linksys ROuter available.  Verizon - you need to look into this.  Based on what I have experienced I cannot recommend FIOS internet for those with VIsta computers until tjhis is addressed.
From what I have researched, Verizon claims it is a Vista problem.  Beta testors of WIndows 7 have reported the same issues with FIOS and Actiontec MI424WR router.  My experience and that of others who have devised the fix I employed would clearly suggest that Verizon needs to look into this and get this problem solved.
    Steve B.

My neighbor had a similar issue. When trying to figure it out we found out that there is a problem with some of the Intel drivers when connecting to some g class routers. We upgraded the wireless drivers on the computer and bingo the problem went away. This was on an Intel-R pro  wireless.  If you have Intel-R pro wireless on your computer, try upgrading to the current driver set and see if that helps you too.

  • Slow Internet/ Wireless Problems

I have had a black macbook for two months now, and have been having wireless problems. I put it next to my powerbook aluminum and the macbook shows a flashing wireless network (going in and out really quickly). Sometimes I also see the network but can't go to any websites, must either sleep it or renew DHCP. The internet has also been much slower than the aluminum. Any suggestions? SImilar problems?

    hey there,
i'm going to copy and paste here as i've tried to resolve this a few different times with no joy!
when websurfing,it can take up a minute and a half for a page to open...i use wirless in my house so that could be the issue..when i brought it into uni it was pretty much instantaneous, obviously there are alot of hot spots there,so that made sense...but i tried it in my brothers house(wireless)i put it right beside his 3 year old laptop(siemens fujitsu)both computers about 15 metres away from the router...my brothers worked at top speed...my brand new MB went at a snails pace:(....is this normal???i have tried it with safari and mozilla same result,i'm careful to empty cache pretty much after every use...i've tried it whilst making sure nothing else was running and still its super slow!!is ther anything i can do/buy/download that may help me increase my speed..i do alot of online research so fast internet is really important for me...
    pleasse help!
