RE1000 - Questions on Setup

How do you make it longer range ? Lol know its like 4 hours later but i remembered, is there anyway to make range longer on these wifi routers? It's right by my garage, by my house in the back, on my phone i only have a 1 bar . And no i didnt read the range extender link but i will now. And if i buy it, like what do i have to do just plug it in like how does it work? Sorry asking so many questions just switched to these kinds of router and stuff. And i mean i just spent 115$ on the router it self and the range thing is almost 100$ it self :/  And i probably cant afford it . :/

The features of RE1000 is showed on this link: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=68dd756bceaf4872a815b22fbab1854b_RE1000_Product_Fe...

  • Questions regarding setup of new external drive in disk util?

Hello I just got a new HD and external enclosure i will be using for storage. The Drive is a 500gb seagate sata in an Thermaltake max 4 enclosure that is hooked up via usb to my macbook.
Now I have a few questions about how to best to format the drive for use. As this is my data drive I plan to be able to use it on my linux box by mounting it as HFS+ if needed for some rare occasion(ex: macbook breaks and goes in for repair) since this is my only mac.
So the main question is what should I chose as a partition scheme for this new drive?
Is the default Apple Partion Map ok? will linux be able to read it as HFS+(MAC OS Extened(Journaled)) using that scheme. I wont be booting of this new drive so thats not an issue. Also my linux pc's(older boxes) don't have the EFI bios that GUID uses supposedly if that makes a difference.
The last question is do i need to have the Mac OS 9 disk drivers checked when creating the partition? I don't think I need as I don't have OS 9.
I guess the best thing would be if anyone here has any experience using an external drive on both mac and linux using HFS+. How did you guys setup your drives?
    Thanks

  • Character Set questions on setup

I am trying to determine what the best setup recommendations are for creating non_English Oracle 10g databases. I have not had much experience building databases for non_English locales, so this is getting a little overwhelming as I have been researching Oracle's Database Globalization Support Guide. Obviously it has a wealth of information and I am trying to determine what applies to us at this point and time.
Generally when someone buys our product they create a new Oracle instance for our app. I need to be able to recommend proper database settings/parameters for potential global customers who purchase our software to run on Oracle.
Currently my biggest question is what to recommend for the Database Characterset on db creation. Currently the DB Character Set we recommend (for standard U.S. installs on Windows) is the default WE8MSWIN1252 character set. Our application is non-unicode. It has been recommended to me from an outside consultant that we "must" use UTF-8 for DB and National Character Set settings, as opposed to WE8MSWIN1252 or WE8ISO8859P1. I should mention that our focus at this point and time is getting a solution for French, German, and Spanish. We are also more concerned about a single language setup than multilanguage - although that is a definite future consideration.
What impact can using UTF-8 as opposed to WE8MSWIN1252 or WE8ISO8859P1 have on a non-unicode application? I hope I am explaining the situation well enough as I am fairly new and still getting to know our application. I am kind of getting thrown into the i18n fire...
Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your questions are certainly valid but you have not given any details about your application: what it does, what technologies and access drivers are employed, and what client operating systems are supported. This determines how much effort is required to make the application Unicode-enabled and what are the risks coming from each of the possible approaches.
As long as your application can work with single-byte character sets only and as long as it is not expected to contain multibyte data, and as long as it supports Windows only, the Oracle character set corresponding to relevant Windows ANSI code page is the correct choice. For English, French, German, Spanish, and other Western European languages, WE8MSWIN1252 is right one.
Processing of WE8MSWIN1252 is easier and somehow faster than processing AL32UTF8 (i.e. UTF-8) data. One character corresponds to one byte and this simplifies some aspects of text processing.
On the other hand, world becomes smaller and smaller in the Internet area. Companies that never did any business abroad start to talk to customers around the world because somebody found their website. Western European companies take advantage of the European Union enlargement and start making business in new countries. Therefore, it is dangerous to assume that a company currently interested in a monolingual, single-byte solution will not want to migrate to a multilingual and multibyte solution in few years.
If you follow a few rules in database design and programming, you can run your single-byte application against an AL32UTF8 database, even if you do not get a multilingual system in this way. Such configuration has the huge advantage of avoiding the need of a complex and resource consuming task of migrating the database character set to Unicode in future, when your customer asks for multilingual support. Upgrading binaries of your application to an Unicode-enabled version is usually fast, migrating the database character set is not.
The main rules you should follow are:
    1) Use character length semantics to define column and PL/SQL variable lengths, i.e. say VARCHAR2(10 CHAR) instead of VARCHAR2(10 [BYTE]). If you do not want to modify all creation scripts to include the CHAR keyword, issue ALTER SESSION SET NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS=CHAR at the beginning of each script. I recommend modifying the scripts.
    2) Do not use VARCHAR2 columns longer than 1000 characters, CHAR columns longer than 500 characters, and PL/SQL VARCHAR2/CHAR variables longer than 8190 characters. This guarantees that in the future no AL32UTF8 string will exceed the hard limit of 4000/2000/32760 bytes. Use CLOB for longer text.
    3) Use SUBSTR/LENGTH/INSTR in place of SUBSTRB/LENGTHB/INSTRB. Use SUBSTRB/LENGTHB/INSTRB only when dealing with legacy stuff or Data Dictionary that still use byte length semantics.
    4) Define the client setting - mainly NLS_LANG - to correctly correspond to the character set processed by your application.
    5) Modify interfaces to other databases, if any, to cope with the character length semantics. You do not have to do much if the other databases follow the same rules.
The cost of running the database in Unicode is not high for most languages, though languages that do not use Latin script, such as Russian, Greek, or Japanese, need significantly more storage for the textual data (but only textual data in those languages - this is only some fraction of all data in the database). Processing is slower by a few percent as compared to single-byte character sets (unless a lot of textual processing is performed in the database, in which case the percentage may be higher - benchmark recommended). This costs can be usually compensated by adding some more computing power (GHz and disks). Unless your application needs a VLDB (very large database) and almost saturates the system, you should not notice a big difference.

  • Questions on setup my SG-300-10MP switch

    hi Everyone,
Thank you very much for your help in advanced. I never been in this community before.
I just got the new SG-300 switches. My manager ordered for me. I did not know how it runs until now... not an IOS based. I really do not know how to configure it.
Anyway, I have a 3750 switch configured already in a new site. It has two vlans, one is vlan 11 for PC, and one is for VOIP vlan 320. It has auto qos running as well. I just setup a trunk for the new SG-300 switch.
Now on the new small switch SG 300...I have some questions:
1.) I also created two vlans, one is VLAN11 (for PC), and one is VLAN 320. For this one I go to the Web-GUI and assign the 320 to the VOICE Vlan. I also changed the CoS to 5 (from 6). Are these ok?
2.) On the port number 9, it is trunk by default, so I add both 11 and 320 to the trunk and leave the rest settings default. It is ok too right?
3.) On a Access port #1, which will have a IP phone attached with a PC plug in. What I did is to change the Interface Vlan mode to "GENERAL". Is that right? I also "CHECK" the Auto Voice VLAN Membership box. And the Voice VLAN QoS mode leaves it as Telephony Source MAC ADDRESS. Did I do all these right?
4.) Finally, for the QoS part...I leave them all default untouch - which is the Basic QoS defualt... I am not sure if this will be fine. I know the enterprise switch can assign an Auto-QOS command and it would do all the config itself. Or may you mind if you would share your QoS config settings?
I am more concerned about the QoS settings here. Hope you can help.
    Thank you very much.
    Takami Chiro

    Hi Chiro-san,
    See my answer below:
I just got the new SG-300 switches. My manager ordered for me. I did not know how it runs until now... not an IOS based. I really do not know how to configure it.  Thank you for your business, a supported CLI interface is coming out with the next version of firmware. (so i have been told)
1.) I also created two vlans, one is VLAN11 (for PC), and one is VLAN 320. For this one I go to the Web-GUI and assign the 320 to the VOICE Vlan. I also changed the CoS to 5 (from 6). Are these ok?
Yes,  but it makes no difference in my instance  as the COS to queue tab shows that both CoS 5 and 6 are set within the same egress queue.
2.) On the port number 9, it is trunk by default, so I add both 11 and 320 to the trunk and leave the rest settings default. It is ok too right?
Yes, on switch port #9,  VLAN1 traffic will be untagged, while Ethernet traffic for  vlan11 and vlan 320 must have all incoming traffic Tagged. Outgoing Ethernet frames will also be tagged for Vlan11 and 320.
So IP phone will have to be set to run tagged Ethernet frames for one of those two vlans.  But the switch also supports LLDP-MED, which depending on your phone system might help to auto-configure the phone on a particular VLAN.
3.) On a Access port #1, which will have a IP phone attached with a PC plug in. What I did is to change the Interface Vlan mode to "GENERAL". Is that right?
I personally do not use General mode, and it's usage seems quite unique.
When I went to VLAN Management  > Interface Settings, I  then selected  the help option at the top right of the GUI.
This then brings up specific help for that displayed options.  It says for general mode "General—The interface can support all functions as defined in the IEEE 802.1q specification. The interface can be a tagged or untagged member of one or more VLANs"
I personally prefer trunk mode,  as General mode might allow two vlans to be untagged on switch port #1.  I don't think that is what you want, but General mode still does allow multiple tagged VLANs to be associated with Switch port #1.  So it's really  not a problem. Having the port in trunk mode allows for one untagged vlan (default VLAN1)  and one or more tagged VLANs.
    I.
I also "CHECK" the Auto Voice VLAN Membership box. And the Voice VLAN QoS mode leaves it as Telephony Source MAC ADDRESS. Did I do all these right?  yes
4.) Finally, for the QoS part...I leave them all default untouch - which is the Basic QoS defualt... I am not sure if this will be fine. I know the enterprise switch can assign an Auto-QOS command and it would do all the config itself. Or may you mind if you would share your QoS config settings?
The default settings set on my SG300-10P  ( order p/n SRW2008P-K9) is shown below.  Notice I could  have the option to trust DSCP or COS settings coming into the switch.
I am more concerned about the QoS settings here. Hope you can help.
    Thank you very much.

  • Exchange 2013 Site Resilience - Basic questions for setup in two seperate AD Sites, same domain

I am just getting ramped up with Exchange 2013 and have a friend that I am assisting with planning an exchange 2013 deployment for.  I am not asking for step by step directions for setup, just asking for a basic overview so I can dig in to this and
    assist.
Goal is to have an exchange server, one in NC and one in Switzerland in an active/passive mode for site resilience.  Both servers will be multi role servers.
This is a small organization, less than 50 users and on a budget for equipment.  HQ is in NC and the server will have all roles installed on a single server. Switzerland will have only one Exchange server for fail over.  There is only
one domain total with two AD Sites.
    My questions for clarity -
    1. Can I create a Site resilient deployment with two Exchange Multi Role servers in these locations?
    2. Currently, the organization does not have a Load Balancer.  Will this be required?
    3. They do not have a third location for a Witness Server, what issues could potentially happen if the witness sits in one of the two sites?
    4. Any other basics for this design are much appreciated.  I am reading a lot, however a little confused as I read through the requirements.
Thanks for your input and direction!

    Hi
Please find below answers to your questions.
    1. Can I create a Site resilient deployment with two Exchange Multi Role servers in these locations?
    Yes
    2. Currently, the organization does not have a Load Balancer.  Will this be required?
No you don't need to have a load balancer. As you are setting up the infrastructure in Active / Passive mode you don't need a dedicated LB for this.
    3. They do not have a third location for a Witness Server, what issues could potentially happen if the witness sits in one of the two sites?
The issue with the witness server in primary or DR site is if your witness server is not responding your DAG won't work properly (failover). If you don't have a 3rd site then you can setup a witness server in your primary site and Alternate witness server
    to your DR site.
    4. Any other basics for this design are much appreciated.  I am reading a lot, however a little confused as I read through the requirements.
I would recommend to use Exchange sizing calculator and technet is the best resource for you :)
Kindly mark this as answer if it fulfill your requirements. :)

  • RE1000 unstable (CD Setup, Bonjour setup, Wireless connection - All unstable w/ 2Wire AT&T)

At first, I had connection, and an hour later it wasn't working. Then I tried Bonjour setup through Safari - at first I saw the config page, all fine - 5 minutes later, couldn't connect to it again. Now the CD setup utility can't even find the device anymore.
The RE1000 is a simple, relatively pricey device with ONE job - and since it arrived, it has been absolutely terrible at it!
My Airport express card connects flawlessly - the signal is pretty strong, and has been for years.
My intention is to have 2Wire DSL AT&T router --- wifi ---> RE1000 ---ethernet port---->  Medialink or Linksys WRT54G ----- 2 cables ---->  Mac Pro & PS3 (for connection and media server). I had the WRT54G for a while with Tomato working successfully as a wireless client, and one day it became unstable.
Please, help! I'm losing my mind

The maximum range is only achieved if the device is set up in an environment that is devoid of any interference.  The router that is being used with the extender can also affect the range that it can provide.  For example, using RE1000 with a wireless–G router would make the extender operate on a wireless-G speed. Follow the instructions to this article http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=a3f6ea1b147844c090f7227d504ddbc1_.xml&pid=80&respi... to know maximize the signal.
For dropping connection problem that maybe cause by outdated firmware. Just make sure you don’t have any issue with your main router, update the firmware of the expander, reset and reconfigure.

  • Few RE1000 questions

Hey all! I have been researching the RE1000 for a little while and I am thinking about adding one or two to my home network, I just wanted to know if this device is able to rebroadcast a signal on a different channel, I'll probably have 3 APs in my home and I am hoping to broadcast on 1,6, and 11 to avoid noisy areas in the house.
    Thanks

That is possible and is a good way to setup your devices. In order for the RE1000 to extend the signal in the work it will require that you use the same network name and password/security mode (case sensitive). The channel however may not be the same, this is to avoid creating too much interference in the network.

  • Question about setup ewa in solution manager 4.0

    Hi
I tried to setup ewa in solution manager 4.0, but when I clicked on the "setup EarlyWatch alert", it told me that:
the Service is not available, Fehlercode:ICF-NF-http-c:000-u:SAPSYS-l:D-i:saptux04_SM4_04-v:0-s:403-r:Forbidden

    any one can help me?
    best regards

    Hello,
You will have to activate the service first in transaction SICF.
SAP recommends to do so via the the SAP Solution Manager IMG following the respective IMG path:
<i>SAP Solution Manager Implementation Guide -> SAP Solution Manager -> Confiugration -> Basic Settings -> Standard Configuration of Basis Settings -> Solution Manager -> Activate Solution Manager Services</i>
Enhanced configuration of SAP EarlyWatch Alert (Service: /sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/dswp_rating_4_monitoring)
This application is fairly new and contained in SAP Solution Manager 4.0 SP12 onwards. Information on the respective functionality can be found right here in the SAP Solution Manager SP News:

  • RE1000 reconnection and setup disc is lost

I changed my network name on my linksys router and once I did that my RE1000 range extender is not connecting.  Everything I am reading says to type in 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and  once the new window pops up, leave the user name blank and type "admin" into the password.  The problem is that when I type in the number into the address bar I am directed to the linksys login page and not the user name & password box I keep seeing on the instructions that deal with RE1000 re set up.  How can I get my extender reconnected?

You need to make sure that you disable the computer’s wireless adapter if you are using a laptop. You can also start from scratch by resetting the RE1000 and then use this link: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=27394 to install the RE1000 manually.

  • RE1000 QUESTION

This is probably a really dumb question but... I set up my wireless extender today, and I was wondering if it only works on the computer used to set it up / connect the extender to the router OR if all laptops/tablets/phones in the room will work on the extenders wireless once it is set up and connected.

All other devices should be able to connect to the extender if running in Extender mode and configured correctly.

  • New Mac Pro - some questions about setup and RAM

After debating between iMac and Mac Pro, I decided on a refurb SINGLE 2.8 quad-core Mac Pro.
Somewhere in these discussions (can't find it now) I thought I saw recommendations to zero out the hard drive and re-install the system when it arrives. Is this necessary?
Also, I plan to use the single processor savings to buy RAM. When I go to the Crucial site, they have a choice of RAM for 4-core or 8-core. Mine is only 4-core, but would I choose the 8-core option to get the correct RAM for 2008 models?
In general, when it comes to buying and installing RAM, should I follow the 8-core directions? Will having a single processor change anything to do with upgrades or expansion?
Thanks. Hope I didn't ask too much in one post.

Somewhere in these discussions (can't find it now) I thought I saw recommendations to zero out the hard drive and re-install the system when it arrives. Is this necessary?
No, that really isn't necessary. If you were prepping a new bare drive that had never been used or you were installing OS X on a drive that had once been used for Windows, then zeroing the drive is quite appropriate.
All the Mac Pros use the same type of RAM. The Late 2008 models use the faster PC2-6400 800 MHz RAM, but the other specs are the same - ECC, Fully buffered, heat sink. The RAM and installation is the same regardless of cores.
RAM should be installed minimally in matched pairs, optimally in matched quads. The following illustrations show how it should be installed:

  • K9A Platinum ~ Purchasing Questions and Setup

Hi, I'm trying to build a new system and I'm just having a TERRIBLE time getting a good motherboard to actually work.... I was running a Crossfire 939 AMD system and I wanted to upgrade it.
I had originally purchased a DFI Lanparty 3200 Crossfire Intel board and a core duo 2 chip.  After the fact, I found out the board is very buggy and has a bad problem with memory post.  It got stuck in a C1 error and I could not fix it and had to send it back.
I then decided to stick with AMD and I got a Asus M2R32-MVP board and a Athlon 64 FX-62 chip... again, I'm having problems as the motherboard will turn itself off within 2 seconds of turning it on.
I am considering running out to Microcenter this weekend and grabbing a K9A Platinum but I wanted to get some feedback before I bought it as to setting it up, if its compatible with my ram and power supply... I did read that the board is defaulted to 1.8v memory and the ram I have is 2.1v.
I'm kinda at my wits end about this and I'm really frustrated.  I'll list the other components below:
    Thermaltake toughpower W0105RU ATX12V / EPS12V 700W Power Supply - Retail

    And the AMD 64 FX-62 AM2
    Thanks!

    Thank you for the input...
Also if you note... I do NOT  have any components hooked up to the board except the cpu, 1 ram stick and the psu.  I do not have my cards, my hard drives or my sound card hooked up.
Its turning off by itself with nothing but the ram, the cpu and the psu hooked up.

  • RE1000 - no devices connected

This may be a silly question, but should the web based admin show devices using the extender? It shows no devices.
I can see it in my Network Map as well for this computer, but the extender just seems to be stuck out to the side (not inline with anything). Signal strength didn't change either.
Oddly, one computer is suddenly missing from the network from the current computer, but not on another computer (could be unrelated).
Basically, all I did is use the setup cd to connect the RE1000 and nothing else.  The router is an E2500.
Networking is not my thing So, am I missing the point or is something not configured properly?

You can set up your RE1000 manually or using the Setup CD that comes with the device. Before you start the setup process, make sure that you have the following:
    active wireless network connection
    Wireless Network Name (SSID)
