RE1000 range expander intermittent connectivity problems

Have a Cisco RE1000 range extender connected to a Linksys router model EA4500.  The range extender keeps dropping the signal every minute or so.   Firmware has been updated.  Cannot find a solution.  Any ideas? Using Windows 7 and iPad with iOS 8.3

1st, you will need to know which channel your router can broadcast the farthest. Access the router's wireless page by following the steps in this link. On the 2.4 GHz network, test channels 1, 3, 6, and 11. Use a mobile phone to check the signal bars (it's the most portable unit to use). Walk around your house to know which area can be the best location to set up the range extender. You should at least get 2-3 bars signal from the router to secure a stable data transfer.

  • How many RE1000, range expander's can i use ?

    Hi,
    How many   RE1000, range expander's can i use ?
    Our home is constructed of a Basement, first floor and second floor.
     Each floor  Area is120 Square foot = 385 Square meter
    *Each floor is 115 foot in length a, 37 foot in width. And 10 foot in height.
    Is it enough to buy the following product to cover the building?
    One Cisco Linksys  ER4200
    Two Cisco Linksys  RE1000 (Wireless-N RangeExtender/Bridge).
    Looking forward for your support.

    Can anyone help me to setup the RE1000 as the BRIDGE using  built-in Ethernet port?
    I have the WiFi setup (DLink WiFi Router) in my Ground floor.
    In the second floor I have setup RE1000 and can extend the WiFi signal from DLink WiFi Router in the ground floor.
    If I connect my desktop computer through the  built-in Ethernet port (With Wire) of RE1000 (second floor), I could connect only the Extender (RE1000), But I could not connect the computers available in the ground floor(connected in DLink WiFi Router) from the second floor.
    How to setup Ethernet Bridge?
    I also find the specification like this at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e45VyoqOI5k
    "Includes a built-in Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) port, which works as a wireless bridge to instantly connect any wired Ethernet device to your network."
    Kindly help me.
    To set it as bridged, you can just setup the wireless settings on it (the same w/ your router) and connect it to a device that you want to connect it with.

  • Intermittment connection problems using WRT54GS in a mixed env

    I got a Wireless Router for Xmas and its been a pain ever since. Basically, the internet conection drops frequently with no obvious pattern. My setup is a Speedstream ( DSL ) modem connected to a WRT54GS V7 router supporting 2 Windows XP ( wired ) desktops and an Apple ( wireless ) laptop.
    I've spent several chat sessions with Linksys tier 1 support and have changed many options and then finallly they agreed to give me a new router. The new one is still dropping 2 or 3 times a day which always require a power reset to enable the network..
    Any ideas ?     I really dont want to go back to a completely wired configuration but will if this isn't resolved soon...

    Update firmware to latest version. Hard reset router for 1 minute. Set all settings again. Also set MTU to 1300.

  • Upgrade controllers, seemed to create intermittent connectivity problems

    I was running version 4.2.130 on 3 wism blades. Actually one of the controllers in one wism is running a mesh code, so i did not upgrade it. Upgraded all except one (cause it won't upgrade, thats another battle) to 4.2.176.0. And now the controllers randomly go offline for just a few seconds, just long enough for the waps to disassociate. This probably happens twice a day, but it does not happen on the one that is still running 4.2.130.0 and the one that is running the mesh code. I'm not sure whats going on, I looked through the release notes to see if there was anything that may cause this, but I didn't see any red flags. Anyone have a clue as to what may be going on here? Any help would be appreciated.

    Did you also upgraded the bootstrap/bootloader to 4.2.112.0?

  • Php5 orcale9i connection problems

    Good morning
    I am experiencing an intermittent connection problem
    When connecting to oracle using $oci_new_connect.
    It appears that if two connections use the same username
    And servicename they can interfere with each other.
    I get a range of errors including OCISessionBegin: ORA-03127:
    no new operations allowed until the active operation ends
    and OCIFetch: ORA-01001: invalid cursor.
    The problem is intermittent, the query will run
    With out problem if there is only one user connected . The data is fine no
    Clobs or binary stuff, just varchar2(20).
    I am not using persistent connections and use the
    $oci_new_connect each time. And close connection asap.
    To get around this I have set up 10 different service names and
    Would like to use them sequentially.
    I would like to store the last used connection servicename as a
    Globally available Environment variable on the windows server
    Running apache.(or just a counter counting up to 10)
    I can then read and increment the variable with each new connection.
    Any idea’s on the best way to achieve this.
    Thanks
    David

    Yes, in general use the refactored OCI8 driver (i.e. use version 1.1) from
    http://pecl.php.net/package/oci8 or http://pecl4win.php.net/ext.php/php_oci8.dll
    A couple of connection bug fixes were merged to PHP's CVS last week.
    All current source changes are at http://cvs.php.net/php-src/ext/oci8/
    The connection fixes are not yet in PECL because Antony is waiting to
    finalize some Collection enhancements.

  • Intermittent connection issue

    I am having connection issues again as I did 2 years ago. The connection gets dropped intermittently. Sometimes the modem has a red light on the internet indicator and other times the DSL blinks and won't sync. The tech gave me a new modem, but I still have the same problem. 2 years ago the problem got resolved when they switched me to another line. I keep a spreadsheet on the tranceiver stats. The margin dB varies 20.2/21 (down/up) to 8.8/21 to 18.1/29 for instance. Line attenuation stays pretty much the same between 51.4/29 (down/up) to 49.4/29. Tranmit power varies 9.3/11.9 to 15.7/11.9 to 16.2/11.9 (down/up). I cannot seem to get someone to fix the line issues coming to my home. How can I get this fixed?
    Craig

    No, it is still ongoing. I have a field tech working on it. I was away for some days so couldn't respond. As you know about the intermittant connect problem because of an unconditioned line. Also, I was unable to obtain 1.5Mb/sec connect speed and Verizon only gave me 1.1Mb/sec. This week I am unable to connect at that speed and is now only 0.928Mb. I don't know why this happened, but I can tell you I am unsatified with this connection. I am really unhappy with not being able to get a measly 1.5Mb/sec connection speed when the rest of the world is getting 50Mb/sec or greater speeds.
    As a stock holder of Verizon I am even more disappointed in their neglect with the DSL service. I am working on a letter to investor relations on this matter.

  • Strange connection problems -- software or hardware?

    I've been experiencing some strange connectivity problems of late, and am wondering if it's a software or hardware issue. I'm running OS-X 10.4.11, and have noticed web-associated "drop-outs" occurring. When I'm browsing, any of the following will happen:
    1. the pages will periodically stop loading, or will take forever to load a few final images.
    2. the page will load with a different format (completely unformatted, like a throwback to Mosaic!).
    3. the page won't load at all, and will instead give me either a "DNS error" message, or will default to my ISP's "We couldn't resolve your page" message.
    4. Nothing out of the ordinary happens.
    Throughout this process, the connection strength is 100%.
    It seems this happens with both Firefox and Safari. Is this an issue with driver software, or is my Airport Card giving out? My computer is about 3 years old.

    I have been having intermittent connection problems on several computers over many years now. We have 12 eMacs, all purchased within a few months of each other, all with 10.4.11. Some computers have almost perfect internet connection, but some are constantly losing connection. If the user just waits a few minutes, the network just comes back or if they open system preferences and renew the DHCP lease it comes back as well. We have tried replacing cables, reloading the operating system, repairing permissions, reseting safari... We are all connecting through ethernet cables through wall jacks then to a switch that is connected to our router. Our DSL provider claims it can't be wiring or a problem on their end or they would see it and we would all have problems. I am not super computer literate... Any suggestions for what I should check on the 4 or so computers that are having lots of connection problems?
    Thanks for any words of wisdom!!!

  • WRN300N Intermittent Connection Loss - Wired

    I’m running a Linksys WRT300N v1.1 router and am suffering from intermittent connection problems, both on my wired and wireless connected computers.  When this occurs, I can’t visit any web sites, and any online games I’m running completely freeze for about 20 seconds.  It happens on average once every 20 minutes or so.  I’ve tried following the directions on the site for this problem (http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4031&lid=3948941746B...) but when I’m trying to get my MTU using the instructions provided I never get a fragmented packet.  I’ve started at 1472 and gone down by 10 all the way to 1000 and never got any fragmented packets.  If I go up any above 1472 I get fragmented packets, but that would put me at a 1500 MTU, which is the default.
    I know the problem is the router because we weren’t experiencing the problem until we changed the router, all other hardware remained the same.   I have a friend that had the same problem but was able to fix it using a firmware downgrade, but from what I can see, they've only released 1 version of the firmware for this router.
    Anybody have any ideas?

    On routers setup page ....uncheck block WAN request .... click save settings ....
    Change the wireless channel ....... radio band to 40MHz  .....Wide channel to 6 ...Standard Channel 11 ....
    Click save settings ...
    Also check the firmware version ....

  • MacBookPro intermittent connectivity with AE/Internet alongside XP/Vista

    My family has 3 laptops: 1x Dell (XP), 1x Toshiba (Vista) and MacBook Pro (OSX10.5.6) using my home wireless network: Airport Express connected to VirginMedia Router to internet. Only Mac has intermittent problems:
    - All 3 laptops individually have no problems connecting to internet;
    - All 3 can simultaneously be on the internet streaming online media;
    - However, only Mac has intermittent connection problems;
    - The XP/Vista laptops connectivity is faultless, unaffected when Mac is first connected to or using the AE/internet;
    - If my Mac is already connected to AE/internet, then connecting XP/Vista laptop will interrupt Mac connection;
    - Turning the Airport-client off/on sometimes temporarily re-connects, or once in a while Mac auto-connects for a few mins, but reconnection is not maintained for more than a few minutes, whether internet in use or not;
    - Mac alone will remain on internet happily indefinitely if neither XP/Vista laptop are connected;
    - I have tried fixes suggested in the forums, such as renewing/lengthening DHCP lease, using DHCP and hard IP addresses, different AE wireless frequencies, removing wireless phones, updating Airport software to latest, turning IPv6 off, etc.
    - This issue arises even when all 3 laptops are used in same room, less than 10m line-of-sight from AE.
    Any ideas how I can force my Mac to stay connected to AE/Internet and not let my XP/Vista family members win the contest of reliable connectivity?
    Yours, the embarassed of the family.

    Thanks for the first two replies.
    1.  Norton and AVG antivirus ran last night.   No problems.  Spybot also was run.   So I don't think the problem is related to Arun's ideas.
    2.  I have a MI424WR Verizon router.   The WAN light is on solid green, all the time. The Internet light flashes.
    The router is fed by coax.
    I dont know what bit torrent is.   Computer 2 is only used for Pogo on line simple stupid gaming (I am whining about wife's activities).   My Computer 1 is only used for ebay and simple web activities.
    I tried resetting the router once today...helped nothing.
    Just now I could not get connected via shortcuts.   BUT---I can always get on line through Outlook Express.  And I got here via an email link.
    go figure

  • What does the range expander do exactly?

    Hi, I would like to know, what does the range expander does exactly, does it only relay a signal farther away or does it actualy amplify the signal. I would like to know because right now there are 3 computers in my house that are only receiving a "weak" signal and I would like to boost that... I can't pass wires through the walls so it has to be wireless...
    thanks in advance

    The range expandr does increase the range of your wireless signal , However the throughput is reduce by half eg: if you are getting a speed of 54Mbps from the router to the range expander , then from the range expander to the PC your transmit rate be be approx 22Mbps . Every consequent range expander you connect will increase the range , but again the transmit speeds will be reduced by half.

  • Strange connection problems

    Wow, there are alot of syncing problems with the Classic...
    Anyway, here's mine. It's not that bad, just real annoying.
    Everytime I plugged it in, I see the screen that had the first box (out of four) checked that selects auto sync. If I check manually manage, it resyncs for what seems like FOREVER. After I get control back and try to manually delete or move songs it seems to resync again and it takes forever. If I disconnect and reconnect, the setting defaults back to auto sync setting.
    I starting using the USB port in the back and it worked great for a while, now its back to the problem. This problem keeps me from manually managing my music- any suggestions?

  • Range Expander Connection Problem

    I have installed a range expander. However my laptop continues to connect to the weaker signal from my router. There is a PS3 in the same location as the laptop and that connects to the range expander just fine.
    Any suggestions to what the problem might be

    Well try doing a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the
    router & check out it will definately work!!

  • Safari won't connect to Linksys Range Expander

    Hope some one can end my sleepless nights...
    I have read the posts on this forum for this type of problem and have followed the advice given but still can't get my neighbours Mac laptop to connect to my wireless network
    I have a Desktop PC running windows XP and two laptops running xp and vista. The network is a Belkin ADSL+2 modum and Netgear Wireless Rangemax router WPN824 which is wired by Ethernet to the PC while the Laptops hook into the network wirelessly. I am running WEP encryption on the router.
    I hooked up the Linksys WRE54G Range Expander and finally got it confugured on my network and placed it on the edge of my signal but my neighbour has a Mac and can't piggy back. The airport say it is connected to my network but we can't open a page and get on the web. Interestingly she is able to hook up to my router when in my unit with the Airport using the WEP password and I can take my laptop in her unit and connect automatically to my network thru the RE as the signal is excellent.
    After searching various threads here and forums elsewhere I configured the Mac's IPv4 to "Use DHCP with manual address" I assigned an IP address of 192.168.1.50 (as advised in the posts) , applied and rebooted - no luck! I have searched all types of sites for any information as I am only a novice
    My router is the DHCP Server and has an IP of 192.168.1.1 and subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0. It's starting IP address is 192.168.1.2 and ends with 192.168.1.254. The Ip address of the Range expander is 192.168.1.240 and the subnet mask is the same while the gateway is 192.168.1.1 (router IP) It has WEP encryption enabled using the same keys as the router. Didn't know how to ping using the Mac so no info there sorry.
    When we assigned an IP address in the ethernet settings on the mac we configured IPv4 "Using DHCP with manual address" as per advice from other posts. We then only had the option to set an IP address and nothing else.
    When we go to "Network" we have a green light next to AirPort and it says "Airport is connected to the network JLay (my SSID). You are connected to the internet via AirPort".
    We tried various other types of configurations with IPv4 but nothing works
    Any advice is appreciated as I've now hit a brick wall

    Seems that I needed to type in the DNS server address (10.0.0.2) when I configured IPv4 manually. I used an IP address for the MAC 192.168.1.50 (as suggested) and same subnet mask as the router and used the IP address for the router in the router box.
    What a relief!

  • With Range Expander I cannot connect to GOOGLE site~ Please HELP ME~!

    I purchased this range expander a month ago, since then I cannot connect to the GOOGLE and some other websites. Can anyone know what the problem is?
    I tried everything the google site and the other people suggested yet it did not work.
    Please help me to fix this problem.
    I even formated this hard drive and re-installed Win XP....ㅜ,ㅜ
    Someone told me that the problem could be from the expander because of firewall or something..

    make sure that all wireless settings on the expander matches the wireless settings on the router.  and for one, im not aware that the expander has a firewall? only router does.

  • Cannot connect to Range Expander

    Bought my first Mac, impulse buy...already see that the wireless sensitivity is much less than my old Dell PC. I bought a range expander to pair up with my wireless router, both Linksys, and the PC laptop connects through the expander no problem. The MB connects to the wireless network fine directly to the router, but cannot "see" the range expander. I contacted linksys and they said I needed to contact Apple. So, the MAC gets an IP address, negotiates the WEP etc when I am in range of the main wireless router, but will not connect via the expander. In the Windows machine I can see the MAC address and the access points the computer is seeing but I do not know how to do that with the MAC. Any help?

    make sure that all wireless settings on the expander matches the wireless settings on the router.  and for one, im not aware that the expander has a firewall? only router does.
