RE2000

RE2000 general setup with pictures.   You pick a SSID
RE2000 FAQ  says to have different SSID for 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.  So you are assigning it via the SSID to the one you want to use.  Sugeuess you use WLAN24 and WLAN50 as possible names.
3. What settings do I need to prepare for the RE2000 setup?
Before you start the setup process, make sure that you have the following:
Active 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless network connection The range extender will detect and work with the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz network.
Wireless Network Name (SSID)If you have a dual-band router, make sure that the network name of your 2.4 GHz network is different from that of the 5 GHz network.
Password or Security Key For better connection and performance, it is recommended to use the following security types: Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA)2/WPA Mixed Mode, WPA2 Personal and WPA Personal.

  • Error in setting up RE2000

I keep getting the following error code in setting up my new RE2000.  IT finds the network just fine put in my network's WPA passcode and then this...
    Error code: 82BE0202
    Any guidance?

I’m not familiar with that error code. Is there any specific error description? Are you trying to set it up manually or using the Setup CD?
There are threeways to set up the RE2000:
    i.  By running the Setup CD that comes with the device. For instructions, click here.
NOTE:  If you do not have the Setup CD, you can download the setup software from the Linksys Support Site.
ii.  By using the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) button on the range extender if your router also supports this feature. To learn how to connect devices using this feature, click here.
iii.  By configuring the device through the web-based setup page. To learn how, click here.
How long is your password? The password must consist of at least eight characters and is case-sensitive. You may need to reset the RE2000 before setting it up. Just press and hold the Reset button located at the top panel of the device for eight seconds.

You will most likely want to assign the printer/extender a DHCP lease/reservation.  Will make printing to it later faster and more consident for mutliepl different OS (Win/OSX/Linux/BSD/iOS/...).   Otherwise the computer printing will have to query the network to find it.  You can get by without it, just little easier.

  • RE2000 can't establish connection and can't be reset

Last week I bought two Linksys RE2000 Wireless Extenders. I manually configured them with the RJ45 cable provided and the lights were solid green. Both worked perfectly until I had to reconfigure my router.
I had to reconfigure the Extenders as well, I did the same manual steps and plugged one back in because it was solid green. The other extender however won't establish a connection with the RJ45 connected to the laptop so I tried resetting it (holding the reset button for 10 seconds).
I tried connecting to the extender again and did a ipconfig /release and renew to make sure I was getting a DHCP IP from the extender like I did with the other one. Getting the default windows 169.254.x.x all the time. Resetted the extender a couple more times. Tried different RJ45 cables. Green light keeps blinking and can't make a connection.
I figured it might have been the laptop so I connected the extender to the router and manually looked for a DHCP lease there so I could connect to it. Also tried a different computer.
No luck on those options, I have the feeling something is up with the second extender, but I don't know what.

Hi, how many seconds did you reset the RE2000? Reset should be at least 30 seconds and then do a power cycle at least a minute or 2. You can try to use another computer in setting up the 2nd Re2000 to isolate the problem.

  • Connecting re2000 WithOUT a wireless host

I  Have an HP desktop PC cable-connected to a E3200 Lynksys router. I do not know if the PC has a wireless connect capablity and I do not have a laptop or any other wireless connected computer, (My HP printer is connected via wifi).  I want to use my new RE2000 to extend wifi connectivity to two Iphone5s out in the backyard.
Is there any way to bypass the  requirement of using a wireless host as a configuration device? I do have Lynksys EasyLink Advisor software installed on my desktop PC.

Thanks jaymay- The RE2000 is working ... somewhat.
I have good news and bad news :
The good News: when I plug in the range extender on the back porch I eventually get a solid green bar on the RE and it generates a signicantly improved signal strength out into the back yard  and into the basement  area of concern- as measured by the signal bars on my iPhone5.
    The bad news:
    1. The RE2000 does NOT appear on any of my desktop networking maps / Explorer or Lynksys advisor.
        - I'm not sure that it should or not but I would think it  would show up somewhere.
    2. On my iPhone5 Wi-Fi  settings screen I do see the RE2000 with a generic name od "LinksysExtender10108"
        - but no security lock icon is shown.
    3. when I select it as my wi-fi device I get very strong signal bars
       -  but my email account says that I have incorrect settings
       - and both of my iphone5 browsers (Chrome and Safari) come up with a screen
"Authentication Required   192.168.1.1.80"   and asks for a Username and password
           - not sure what they want here I tried both the router/network name/pswd and my Chrome account name/pswd but neither were accepted
    so now what?
I greately appreciate your help and am confident you will provide a workable solution.

  • RE2000 No Longer Connected to Network

Hello.  I have a Linksys EA4500 wireless router which I purchased a few years ago.  I was connected to the internet (Time Warner Cable) using one of their modems (just a modem, not a combination modem/wireless router).  My wireless router is located in my basement on the far end of my home.  I later purchased the Linksys RE2000 to expand the range of my wi-fi network in my home.
This setup was working fine.  I was seeing full signal strength on my wireless devices on the first floor of my home on the opposite end from where my wireless router is located.  I did experience periods where the wi-fi signal strength would drop while using my smartphone or iPad in my home farthest away from the wireless router.  At those times, I would have to unplug the RE2000, wait a few minutes, plug it back in and the signal strength would go back to full strength.
I was recently experiencing Cable/Internet issues (again) so Time Warner came out and gave me a new modem/wireless router.  I am still using my own wireless router.  I did have some issues with my browsers not working properly which I rectified by "correcting" the connections from the cable in to the modem/wireless router to my wireless router.  They had connected my iMac directly to their modem/wireless router rather than to my wireless router.
Ever since that time, my RE2000 does not seem to be rebroadcasting the wireless signal.  I have tried just about everything to fix it including trying to Reset it to factory settings using the Reset button on the RE2000 but, that doesn't even work.  I also am unable to access the Web set up page for the RE2000.  I am at my wit's end and about to give up.  Can anyone help me?  Is there anyone from Linksys/Cisco out there listening?
Thank you in advance for your time.  I hope I have provided enough information for someone to help me diagnose and correct the problem.

Did the power light flashes slowly after you’ve pressed the Reset button? Make sure to press the Reset button for 8 seconds to reset the range extender to its factory defaults. Once done, you will need to plug a computer to the extender’s Ethernet port. Launch a web browser and enter the Linksys range extender’s IP address. The default IP address is 192.168.1.1. A prompt will ask for a username and password. Leave the User Name blank and enter “admin” in the Password field. You should now be able to access the web-based setup page of your Linksys range extender.

  • 5ghz on re2000

    Hello good people.
I have e3200 router and i recently bought range extender re 2000 v2.
My problem is that i can`t see 5ghz network thru range extender.
In router settings i create two different networks:
    1. "user2,4ghz" &
    2. "user5ghz" and everything works fine.
But on the range extender i see only my„user2,4ghz“ network.
I read that both devices can operate with 2.4 and 5 ghz simultaneously.
    What should i do?
What is proper settings for router and range extender?
    One more thing,
how can i manualy get inside of range extender using 192.168.1.1 when router already uses that same ip adress?
    Thanx!
    PS.Sorry for my bad english.

The RE2000 should be in sync with your E3200 router. Try to change the wireless channel on your 5 GHz network to avoid interference from your other devices. For the 5 GHz network, channels 36, 40, 44, and 48 are recommended to less likely suffer interference.
You can hardwired the extender directly to the router and check the DHCP Client Table to determine the extender’s current IP address. Once done, I suggest you reserve the IP address through your routers DHCP Reservation.
Here are some articles that may help:

  • Range Extender RE2000

Got this range extender. Works fine at 2.4 GHz but bought it for 5.0 GHz to work in combination with Apple's Time Capsule, Mac Book and iPad & iPhone.
But extender refuses to show 5.0 GHz websites.
Manual configuration at 5.0 GHz still ends with a 2.4 GHz access.
Does anybody know how to configure this?
    Thanks,
    John

Hi John, what's the model number of the router that you are using? Is it a Linksys router? You can check this link to assist you in setting up the RE2000 manually http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&docid=6cd6b23a8b334b419adac... and http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&docid=206954591ff54e36884bb...

  • RE2000 - Stopped after wired IP connection

I'm having almost a montth a correct working RE2000 repeater installed which worked 24h a day.
However, since 2 days, I connected a PC to this repeater via the wired Ethernet output, an suddenly the unit becomes pretty hot after a small 2 days of operation.
And during some more intensive ethernet traffic requiest by surfing on the web, the unit stopped working.
Tried to get it started a gain, and it did, however, after 3 minutes, it stopped again.
Have switched off the unit to get it cooled.
Restarted a gain and got acces via the wired input without any problem.
However, after 5 minutes, it dropped its connection again.
Did a cooling down period a gain and restarted the unit without the wired pc connection.
And guess what, it works without a ny problem....
Think there is a hardware problem involved and/ or a thermic protection which comes in.
Cisco, can you do something with this information?
I, and I suppose many people, want(s) a RE2000 which can be trusted, also if a wired connection is made.

    Yep,...
Now about one week further, my RE2000 also stopped correct working and now starts continues rebooting.
I can follow the same route as many others here in the forum with the same problem. :-(
So, I have to bring my unit back for RMA and/or swap.
Because based on the amount complaints about the RE1000 & RE2000 I think it's a serious epidemic problem.
Meaning, a problem caused by a production failure and or during development and not at the user site.
I start writing down my Serial: - 12Y10P04302964
@Cisco: If I'm in the range of a know (batch) problem, please reply.
My current idea is that there is a serious production / development problem.
In that case I would ask Cisco what (general) solution can be offered to fix the problem.
(Or what Cisco is doing / has done to solve it.)
I also hope, a lot of others will follow to write down their serial number in this list.
That also will help Cisco to get a better view about the problem.

  • RE2000 loosing connection to router

    Hi all,
I have a RE2000 v1 and a router X3500. I use RE2000 to extend wifi signal and its ethernet port to attach a small wired device behind.
Almost everyday or few days a week seems that RE2000 stop to route traffic on wifi. Ethernet device behind loose its connection to internet; my mobile phone stop to surf online if it's attached to wifi of RE2000. It's like a split-brain situation. All devices connected to router (either wired or wifi) are able to navigate. All devices connected to RE2000 cannot navigate. However, devices connected to RE2000 can see each other, so from my phone if connected to RE2000 I can reach other devices but not internet.
I do not have any suitable explaination to this. I tried to change channel settings on router, use and not use WPS, connect RE2000 to G network or to N network. No test solved the issue.
    Any hint?
    Stefano

    Hi,
so you're right...I suspect the same behaviour. My house is split in two floors; cause it's quite old walls are made up by concrete and stones. On the upper floor where I have my studio and the extended I usually have my notebook, my mobile phone, desktop pc and printer using wifi connection.
You can see below the router wifi configuration and RE2000 wifi survey (wifi password is blanked by me)
the first strange thing in my opinion is that 5Ghz seems to have a weaker strenght than 2.4Ghz.
    I've actually connected RE2000 to 2.4Ghz band.
Distance... in meters from two router is about 10 meters, but not considering the floor in the middle. Might another extender  on the down floor help? Or you think that tweaking channel it's enough? I tried in past without luck but I can try again with suggestions.

  • Re2000 wired to my main router (EA4500)

i've got an AE4500 on the ground floor. works well got 2,4 and 5 gig wifi in the area.
on the first floor the 2,4 is ok, not good not bad. just ok
the 5 Gig signal is very poor.
my iphone5 and macbook work on the fast 5 Gig wifi.
my girlfriens iphone4 works on the 2,4 Gig.
i bought the RE2000 extender and want to install this near the stairs between the first and the second floor.
i want to connect it bij cable with the AE4500 so the connection is fast between the RE2000 and AE4500. and that the RE2000 kan send 2,4 and 5 gig. my iphone 5 and macbook on 5 Gig and my girlfriends iphone 4 on the 2,4 Gig.
    is this possible?

This particular range expander though is not a simultaneous dual band range extender but only selectable. It means that you can either extend your router’s 2.4 GHz network or the 5 GHz network. Take note as well that 5 GHz network is for low range and that is why streaming or download works great on this particular band. The 5 GHz network was developed due to overcrowding of wireless signal on the 2.4 GHz , thus, the reason why it is for shorter or lower range.  I suggest you extend the 5 GHz network so that you can have better signal for your iPhone5 and macbook computer. You just make sure that on the 2.4 GHz network for the iPhone4, set the wireless channel to something else and do not use auto. You may use channel 11 for the 2.4. Do not forget to use WPA2 security so that you will have better speeds especially on the wireless devices.

  • Laptop Cannot access Extender (RE2000)

I have RE2000. I t connect perfect with other laptop. EXCEPT for one laptop. Sony Vaio F15  (svf153a1yw)
I also have problem accessing 192.168.1.1
try to reset my extender manytime still wont work.
any idea why and how to fixed it?

Can your extender connect to other networks as well? It's good if you can isolate that first by connecting the laptop to other wireless networks.
Which computer did you use to access the extender? You can access it as long as the computer is connected via wired or wireless.
If you're good with the things above, you can reset the extender and reinstall it instead.
Start checking this article to see how to reset the extender first:

  • RE2000 Range Extender possibly bootlooping

    Hello,
I purchased the RE2000 range extender last weekend. Worked well for a few days and I moved it to a new location. Plugged it in and now the green light on top blinks constantly for a about 15-25s. Then the light will go out and the ethernet light will light up for a second. Then the green light on top starts to blink again for 15-25s. Then repeat. I think it may be stuck in a bootloop and I need help cause there is no quick troubleshoot for this problem.
Also setup with the CD will not connect to the device at all.
    Thanks,
    Alex

What is the model of your router? The RE2000 is designed to extend the wireless range of your main router. It acts as a repeater for the wireless signal and at the same time a wireless bridge for wired devices. From what I know with range extenders, the light will flash quickly every second or so if it has encountered an error.
How far is the range extender from your router? There might be signal obstructions between your router and your range extender.  Try transferring your range extender to another location.  Avoid placing your range extender near metal objects, masonry walls, and reflective surfaces such as mirrors. The best location to setup the range extender is the point where you are getting at least 3 signal bars with a laptop or 50-60% wireless signal strength.
I would suggest that you reset and reconfigure the range extender since it is not working at the moment and you may test it with a wired connection with a laptop to see if it is properly configured. And when you say that it is too hot, did you notice any smoke, flash or flame  coming out of the device? Be safe. Unplug the device immediately.

  • RE2000 set up - TEW-672GR

I have tried to find an swner to this but couldn't so I am jus tposting a new quesiton.
Main router/wireless is a TEW-672GR. It works fine and has worked fine.
Wanted an extender so family can connect laptops and ipods in another room and outside.
Purchased the RE2000, dual band extender yesterday.
Two basic questions to start off with:
    1. When I connect I still only see the main router so that is what I am conecting too still. However every time one of the laptops opens there is no connection and opening any browser automaticlly takes a person to the RE2000 log in where one has to manually connect to the TEW-672GR and enter the keycode/passcode. This also happens without rebooting - in other words a connceiton will stop and suddenly a pop up will ask for log in to the RE2000, This should not be happening should it? Also it appears thet when the set up happened it changed all the browsers default homepage to the IP of the RE2000. Not too happy about that sneaky move.
    2. . In conjuction with the above question. What are the recomended settings for the TEW-672GR?  I had to change them to get it to work with the RE2000 so I am owndering if there is somethign that needs to change on the router side of things in reguards to auto log in.
I want to pointout that the ipods "stay" logged in, in other words you are pompted for the keycode/passcode and it connects. The same for our TV and the WII. It is only the laptops that one has to first log into the RE2000 and conncet and than connect again. One Laptop is XP Pro SP3 and the other is Win 7.

During the setup, it will ask you to select your wireless network. After selecting the wireless network and typing in your password, it would synchronize to your main wireless router and that’s the reason it would want you to move the extender to another location to test if it’s properly working. To test it properly, you may turn off your router and check if your laptop can still detect the wireless network. If it is then the range extender is setup correctly.

  • RE2000 Range Extender

I relocated mt Roku to another part of my home, planning to my RE2000. I am getting two signals, one from my router and one from the extender, both with the same name. A WiFi analyzer on my tablet shows the two signals. I believe My Roku is picking up the weaker signal as it is not getting a strong enough signal, and the extender signal is quite strong. Is there any way to differeniate to the signal, say by giving the extender a different name?

RE2000 should extend / expand the wireless range of your router and it should be placed on a location from where you have at least 2-3 bars of wireless signal from the main network. If you have a dual-band router, make sure that the network name of your 2.4 GHz network is different from that of the 5 GHz. The extender is capable of expanding either the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz band but I suggest to connect to your 2.4Ghz network since 5Ghz may have a faster throughput but range is not that far compared to 2.4Ghz band.
Once you've verified the settings of your router - and configured the network names properly, you may do a reset on your RE2000 and follow this Article ID: 28846 on reconfiguring your extender.
    Hope this helps.
