Reactivate expired Software updates

We currently had a lot of superseeded updates, which were normally deployed to our clients. We currently patch 3 times a year in our company. The last time was around september. Now the superseeded updates turned to expire, due the Supersedence rule / Superdence
behavior configured in the Software Update Point Component Properties.
Is it possible to reactive / reenable the expired update until we patch our clients again with the newest updates? Currently the expired updates don't get deployed, which i think is normal behavior...
Thanks in advance

Typically, a software update that supersedes another software update does one or more of the following:
1. Enhances, improves, or adds to the fix provided by one or more previously released updates.
2. Improves the efficiency of its update file package, which is installed on client computers if the update is approved for installation. For example, the superseded update might contain files that are no longer relevant to the fix or to the operating systems
now supported by the new update, so those files are not included in the superseding update's file package.
3. Updates newer versions of a product, or in other words, is no longer applicable to older versions or configurations of a product. Updates can also supersede other updates if modifications have been made to expand language support. For example, a later
revision of a product update for Microsoft Office might remove support for an older operating system, but add additional support for new languages in the initial update release.
You can specify a period of time before superseded software updates are expired, which allows you to continue to deploy them.  THe superseded rule can only be configured at central site.

  • SCCM- How to re-claim expired software updates in SCCM 2007 Sp2

    Hi All,
I can see some on the software updates that are showing in "red mark" , but actually when i check the status of updates they are not expired. When i try to download or install those updates they are not getting downloaded SCCM throws an error message
as configuration manager throws an error message. Can anyone share the details on how we can re-claim these software updates.
    Regards,

are you talking about windows updates or custom updates published through SCUP? where extactly are you checking status for these updates?

  • How to update the expired software update from OS 10.7.5 to the newest one

    Hi, I am Dewi.
I missed to update my software from OS 10.7.5 to its newest one on my macbook air, now i can't update my software though I have tried many times. Is there anyone could help me to solve this problem? Thanks. I also have problem when I have to install my canon MG 2570 to my macbook, I don't know why.

v10.7.5 is as far as Lion can be updated.
See if your Mac can upgrade to v10.9 Mavericks >  OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
Mavericks is free and available from the App Store.
Read prior to upgrading >  What you need for Mavericks, OS X 10.9
As for the printer, OS X drivers are available here >  http://www.driverscentre.com/2013/11/canon-pixma-mg2570-driver-download.html

  • Some software update deployments are expired

Some software update deployments are expired (gray icon) but some are not. Why is this so? There are no expired software updates in software update group.

Curious:  go ahead and search within the group for expired updates.  Do they show up in the filter?  Or is it a definite display bug?
If that were the case, then all of the deployments for that group would be grey but the screenshot shows only about half are actually grey.
It could be some type of age thing where after 30 days (or something like that) they are shown greyed. That doesn't make much sense paritcularily based upon the dates shown in the screenshot, but I can't see anything else that would cause it.
Note that in my lab most of my older deployments on update groups are also grey but there are no expired updates in the update group deployed so I am seeing the same behavior.

  • All Software update groups expired

     Hi,
    Please see http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/39b60e34-f30a-4963-a08b-6a8e13e44b91/software-update-groups-grey-icon-with-x-?forum=configmanagersecurity
    for reference.
We created update lists for Windows 7 with Office, automatic updates for SCEP, they all are expired (Expired icon of “http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh848254.aspx). I don’t want them to expire. I want to make sure every new
OS will get the latest updates + antivirus updates.
Not sure if this is by design, an error on SCCM (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0c13c27d-55a9-4f56-8ac0-f9053301ab0c/all-updates-in-sccm-software-updates-are-set-to-expire?forum=configmgrsum=>
my SCUP is there) or there is some misconfiguration.
    Please advise. J.

    Jan,
    > *Can you help me with this mechanism, I'm not familiar with it?
While viewing the updates that are a member of the software updates group, either sort by the "Expired" column or filter by Expired = Yex.  Select all expired updates, right click, and select 'Edit Membership".  Uncheck the checkbox for the software
update groups you are trying to remove them from.
    > *I seem to remember there was somewhere an option that mentioned expired
This option has to do with how long 'superseded' updates will remain available for deployment.  You can set under Administration > Site Configuration > Sites.  Right click on your site and select Configure Site Components > Software Update
Point.  The setting is on the "Supersedence Rules" tab.
However, Microsoft will also directly expire updates from time to time as well.  In general, this is normal and something you shouldn't worry about managing.  When the update has been expired by Microsoft, it is something you couldn't install even
by going to Windows Update, so you shouldn't worry trying to deploy them.  Instead, deploy the current updates instead of superseded ones.
    >How can I automate this (not automatically apply but using manually which updates to use and deploy at times I choose)?
For organizations with very simple Software Update processes, you could use an Automatic Deployment Rule to select updates based on a criteria, download the content to a deployment package, add the updates to a software update group, and create a deployment
to a collection.  That deployment can be 'available' and not required if you plan to hand install them later.
This documentation gives you an overview of how all the Software Update Management features work:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682168.aspx#BKMK_DeploymentWorkflows
And this blog post gives an example of using an ADR:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrdogs/archive/2012/05/08/configmgr-2012-automatic-deployment-rules.aspx
    I hope that helps,

  • Expiration and Supersedence within an SCCM 2012 Software Update Context

In SCCM 2012 I have put a process together where I wait till the Friday after Patch Tuesday to begin prepping for production Software Update deployments that will take place that following week, beginning on the first Sunday following Patch Tuesday. I wait
till Friday for preparation, because the thought is if I wait till then and synchronize the patches to grab the metadata later in the week, I will not pick up any patches that may have already been superseded or expired that were just released just days before
    on Patch Tuesday.
My question is, is this a good practice? I have just been doing it this way for a while, but not sure it this is considered a best practice or what. I guess I am just looking for confirmation and also any other techniques, methods, and\or processes that
    may serve me better.
If anyone can offer any input that can give me better insight, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks

So how does it work if I sync on Patch Tuesday after the patches are released, and build my packages and deployments right after that and deploy them to the clients and then I re-run another synchronization say on that following Thursday or Friday and find
out that one of those patches that I deployed has already expired or superseded?
    Thanks Torsten

  • Software Updated - Expired

I have a problem where all my software updates shown as expired (they are all grey). I have waited couple of days to see if they turn green again, but nothing happened.
If I try and download them by right clicking on to the update and selecting 'Download Software Update', I get an error telling me 'All software updates in this selection are expired or metadata-only. The deployment cannot be created.'
This causes SCCM console to freeze and I am unable to do anything but kill the console from the task manager and start again.
I would love to know what metadata is and what might be the reason behind this. I've spent most of the time searching for answers, but had no luck so far.
Hopefully somone out there can help.
    Thanks.

This happened to me as well.  I downloaded one of the updates from the September patches and added it to my update list, deployment package and deployed the update.
The update was then re-leased and turned grey showing expired.  I had to remove all traces of the update from my update lists as well as any deployment packages.
I then ran a manual synchronization on the update repository and the grey one dropped off and the re-released one appeared.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes cannot restore, software update server can't be contacted

    Hello,
I received a 2008 iPod Classic hand-me-down from a friend, and wanted to format it and start using it.  I formatted the drive in windows, and now when I start iTunes (using version 10.6.3.25), I get the following message "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted.  You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.  You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."  When I try to restore, it holds on "contacting the iPod software update server," and then tells me that the iPod software update server could not be contacted.
I have looked around for solutions, and tried quite a few of them.  I unchecked the boxes in internet options (automatically detect settings), deleted the itunespref xml file, used hostsxpert to reset the hosts file, and so on.  I still have the same problem.
So here I am, posting on the forum asking for someone's expert help.  Here is the little log that iTunes spits out for me:

Ok, I've got it all figured out, and wanted to leave a note here for posterity.  Here's what I did.
After reading all of planb77's excellent suggestions and going through the links he sent, I decided to look at other aspects of iTunes and see if the problem was not limited to restoring my iPod.  When I found that my iTunes store didn't work, I checked the forum for those issues, and found that AT&T Communication Manager was a common culprit in working with iTunes.
After 70 minutes on hold and a fruitless hour on the phone with AT&T trying to uninstall bytemobile optimization client, I left the AT&T guy insisting that it was not AT&T's problem, but rather Apple's.
I then looked further into bytemobile and iTunes, and found an elegantly simple solution, written in all caps: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3888541?start=0&tstart=0.  You'll see it there.  To spare you the link change, the advice was to uninstall iTunes 10 and everything else apple-related, download and install iTunes 9.2, find and delete the latest "itunes library.itl", and run your new iTunes.  It solved my problem of restoring my iPod, and, incidentally, allowed me to access iTunes store.  So there you have it.  Problem solved.
planb77, thanks again for your persistence.  While you didn't solve my problem, you eliminated many of the other possiblities, and led me to some other links.

  • Cannot connect to ipod software update server

I have been battling for weeks to get my daughters iPod updated to iOS 5. I keep getting an error message when I try to upgrade "iTunes could not contact the iPod software update server because you are not connected to the Internet." The internet and iTunes are working and I updated my iPhone from the same PC with no issues.
    I am running Win 7 x64
I have worked through all the solutions have found on the forums including:
    1) Ensure that the local area connection is set toautomatically discover settings
    2) flush the DNS cache
    3) Change the "Windows live family safety settings for her account to unrestricted"
    4) Removee "Windows live family safety" from the PC
    5) Change her account to an admin account
    6) Temporarily disabled AVG
    7) Remove the content of the hosts file
    8) Running iTunes as an administrator explicitly
    9) Temporarily disabled the windows firewall.
There have been many reboots in this sequence.
iTunes diagnostics gives the following (while running iTunes as administratir, with AVG disabled and the windows firewall disabled, and her account as administrator) - The thing that looks wrong to me is that there appears to be no active connection identified, trouble is the network is working so what is going on? • "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet" Help?

Hello all, new to the forums.
I've been recieving the error message "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet". This problem didn't occur at all for the past 2 years of using itunes.
I've already scanned through numerous websites and forums for help, but none of them worked.
This  set of instructions resulted in no change to any of the problems, though iTunes lists that as the supposed solution.
    # Open Internet Options from control panel.
    # Click the Connections tab.
    # Click the LAN Settings button.
    # Select the Automatically detect settings checkbox.
Others include installing IE7, which that didn't work either.
    Can anyone help?

  • Macbook won't install the software update from version 10.6.8

Hi folks. I've tried this software update multiple times and now I find out that I can't extend my AppleCare warranty after it expires. So I'm hoping that someone else has had this problem. Basically the software update proceeds as usual, the computer restarts and just as you think everything is fine, the message 'There was a problem installing this software update. Quit all open applications and try updating again. If the problem contines, contact Apple support.' ANY help greatly appreciated. Many thanks

    Hi..
See if you can download and install the combo > Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
And make sure there's enough free space on the startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • SCCM 2007-software update synchronizatoin

    Hi All,
Due to some activity happened in our organisation the software update point is  really messed up. Hence i had to delete and re-create the SUP on remote server in SCCM but when i am checking the logs its only showing deleting expired updates. Also, i
m not able to see the WSUS admin console as well. It is always throwing me out with the error. restart server node.I was thinking to completely uninstall the WSUS point and than try to re-install it and than create an SUP point. Will this be a good approach
or WSUS uninstallation may effect any other site system role installation in SCCM environment?
    Rgs,

Before you do that, you may wish to check the wsync.log to confirm if the synchronization is completed correctly

  • SCCM 2007 R3 Software Updates Sync : 6703 WSUS server not configured

    Hi,
We run SCCM 2007 R3 in native mode (Software Update Point and WSUS both reside on SCCM site server). We're having issues running Software Updates Synchronization which have previously worked fine. In SMS_WSUS_Control_Manager the errors appear as follows
    MessageID:6703
    SMS WSUS Synchronization failed.
    Message: WSUS server not configured.
    Source: CWSyncMgr::DoSync.
The operating system reported error 2147500037: Unspecified error
I've followed the suggested fixes in
http://technet.micro...y/bb735874.aspx but still we have an issue.
If I open the WSUS console directly and run a manual synchronization from Microsoft this completes successfully. However, I presume this will not be using SSL which is what SCCM will want to use in native mode. I've checked the bindings in IIS on WSUS Administration
site to confirm that the certificate hasn't expired.
Any ideas what else I can try?
    Cheers,
    Paul

  • Are software updates linked to the warrenty?

    Hi
I have a laptop I purchased in mid 2013, I noticed that for quite a long time I don't get any alerts about software updates from HP Support assistant.
Is this related to the warrenty expiring in mid 2014? Can't I get automatic updates anymore?
If not is there any possible way to fix this? It does not make sense I didn't get any update for a couple of months, the laptop I have for work gets updates at least once a month.
    Thanks in advance
    Sigal

    Hi Sigal,
Identify the model name/product number of your laptop?
See if any newer versions of drivers are available in your HP support site by searching for them with the exact model name/product number. If there's none available there, I've no option for you than to wait for any newer updates in the future.
Sometimes HP support assistant needs to be uninstalled and latest version installed from HP support site & check for updates again.
