Read *.acsm pdfs online

Reading Digital Editions docs online
Adobe claim Digital Editions docs can be read both online and offline http://www.adobe.com/products/digital-editions.html
I'm trying to read a *.acsm pdf i've purchased online (e.g., so I can log onto an online Adobe Digital Editions account at work and read my texts without having to install new software on a work computer).
I've read around and found no support on this topic.
Does anyone know how?
thanks, Carl

It may be necessary to go to Adobe's website to find an uninstaller.
Preview should automatically take over the job.
I don't have Acrobat and have no problems so far.
I removed it about six months ago when it's major vulnerabilities to malware were pointed out.
Never follow links from pop-ups that say you need a new version of Acrobat, Flash or other software (video codecs are a favourite) as they stand a high chance of being re-directs to malware sites.
Always check the latest versions from your own bookmarks to the vendor sites.

  • I have Adobe Reader XI but I can not read a pdf online, I must save it and then open.  This never happened before.

The system attempts to download the pdf, but it is a dark grey screen.  I can save this as a file and then open it using Adobe.  Why two steps?  I should be able to read the first one.  This is extremely annoying.

  • Get rid of Adobe Reader FOREVER & still read all PDFs online?

I have this problem. I hate ADOBE ACROBAT READER. I install it when I have to, and more and more it seems that if I want to look at a PDF online, Preview doesn't get the chance because the Adobe Reader butts in and reports that it can't find an Adobe Reader compatible program.
Or that I must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to read the PDF and do I want to download Adobe Acrobat Reader?
    Or something similar.
Is there any SIMPLE way to get rid of Adobe Acrobat Reader altogether once and for all, so that I never have to see it, or use it, or think about it again?
If there is, I would MUCH appreciate a HOW TO because it's making me ill.
PREVIEW is great for what I need, and if I could just get PREVIEW to take over all PDF duties, I'd be fine.
Alternatively, if there's another PDF reader/writer etc. for Mac, I'd pay real money for it if necessary.

  • Can't Read PDFs online

When I try to read a PDF online, Adobe Acrobat 6.0 (from
Adobe Creative Suite 1) tries to open, then closes with this error
message: "Adobe Acrobat 6.0 has encountered a problem and needs to
    close. We are sorry..."
Until recently Adobe Reader 7.0 opened to read PDFs online,
and I had no problems. Now Acrobat tries to open instead but it
can't and I currently have no way of reading PDFs online. Adobe
Reader opens properly when I try to read PDFs from a CD or from the
hard drive on my home computer. This problem is only with online
    PDFs.
I recently installed online updates to Acrobat Pro. Did this
    somehow cause this annoying problem?
    Thanks for your help!

You can open AR7 and then start browsing and AR should take over in that case. Not the answer you were looking for, but a temporary fix.

  • Hi, Adobe Reader XI crashes when I try to connect to a pdf online.

Hi, Can anyone help, please? Adobe reader XI crashes when I connect to a pdf online. Pre-saved ones still read correctly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader, and reset google chrome, but the problem is still there! What can I try next???

Chrome uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

    Hi,
It may be that you will need to 'reset' Internet Explorer, but you can certainly check if this issue is being caused by an add-on as follows.
Click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, open System Tools and click on 'Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)'.  See if Internet Explorer now runs correctly.
    Let me know.

  • All PDF print as completely black pages.  I can read the PDF fine.  This is true on any printer.

All PDF print as completely black pages.  I can read the PDF fine.  This is true on any printer.
A google search shows others have had this problem, but I have not seen a solution posted.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat, without help.  I'm wondering if this is a registry problem.
I saw some post that referred to a stuck switch of print colors as black, but I know nothing about this.
    Please help!

I am using a Mac (all software latest version - Mt. Lion and Safari as web browser).  I see this exact problem but NOT with all PDFs.  As you might not know, PDF creation is built-into all Macs and I do NOT have a problem with any of those, nor has anyone complained to me about those.  Also, Macs have a bulit-in PDF viewer ("Preview") which also can NOT view the file correctly.  If I try to open the file once it has been stored on the desktop, Acrobat gives me an "incorrectly formatted PDF file" error.
My AMEX statement is unprintable and some other stuff that comes from our local school board, and other online sources.  (My suspicion is that these files are not perfectly formatted).
    Here was my work-around:
I use FIREFOX browser to retrieve the same PDF and it prints fine.
I, too, would LOVE to know why this is happening because it is annoying.

  • Is there a way to make links automatically open in a new window / new tab when viewing the PDF online

    Hi there,
Currently we are adjusting our PDF files at our company, in order to make them more "user-friendly".
We are looking for a way, when our customers view the PDFs online, that the URL that is in the PDF, when clicked on, will automatically open in a new window, instead of opening the URL in the same window as the PDF is opened..
Could some-one please help me this?
    regards,

It worked for me. See the source of my example at (PDF link to open in new window). (Sorry, that is the default title of the test page.)

  • PDF online Annotation in IE Browser

    Hi,
Our scenario/requirement is: The users should be able to annotate pdf
(online - PDF will be loaded in IE Browser) over the web (with our web application) [Acrobat Reader is available on user's PC] and save the changes (reviews/comments) associated with the pdf file.
    Queries:
    - Can you guide me what are the possible approach we can take with Adobe?
    - Does Adobe SDK exposes any Plug-ins (readily available) which we can use for this purpose?
    - We have already got a licensed Adobe Professional 8.0
    - Is there any option of considering the floating licenses for Adobe Professional, which can be used with our web application for enabling Annotation features on user's PC with Adobe Reader.
    Awaiting your swift response.
    Thanks & regards,

  • I paid 9.95 because I thought it would allow me to create a pdf online. What did I pay for if not that?

I am very unhappy right now because I chose "create online PDF" from my ADOBE READER software on my computer and it took me to a place where I could pay. It said $9.95 only for me to pay and still can't create a PDF online.

Did you sign in with the Adobe ID you used for the subscription?
And yes, you should really tell us what you paid for - we have no way of knowing that.

  • Internet Explorer 7 crashes when I open a pdf online

I was just issued a new laptop and one of the bugs is that I get kicked out of Internet Explorer whenever I try to open/view a pdf document.  Can anyone help?  I thought it might be an issue with Adobe Reader, but I just purchased and installed Acrobat Pro and it is still happening.
    Thanks!

Thanks - but Firefox is not supported by my employer and we are restricted to use of Internet Explorer.  I appreciate you taking the time to try and help though   Anyone else have any thoughts?  This is so frustrating not to be able to open pdfs online.

  • Adobe pdf online view issue- End user license agreement

There is an issue with viewing adobe pdf online.

I just found on other thread. I tried this and it helped solve view the contents. I  other words this resolved.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
